Stop Victim-blaming Rachel Amber
I've posted this before but still don't see it being recognised enough. So here is part of an original well-written analysis of Rachel Amber, specifically the parts that got her the most hate:
SO WHY WAS RACHEL MESSING AROUND WITH FRANK AND JEFFERSON IF SHE LOVED CHLOE?? Well, let me lead you to—
Case studies on the way predatory and grooming relationships work in BtS and LiS
Exhibit D 💀💀
**Rachel was an 18 y/o emotionally vulnerable traumatized naive girl with abandonment issues, commitment issues and a father complex who was a victim of predatory grooming.
More often than not, girls like Rachel (yes, I’m calling her a girl at this point) find themselves in the company of questionable older men because of their unresolved personal issues and lack of proper guidance. Just because someone turns 18 doesn’t mean they magically transform into this wise mature grown up who’s achieved clarity in what they want or know. Just because they’re finally legal doesn’t make a 30 something yr old going after a barely legal girl any less wrong than a 30 yr old dating a 16 yr old. Just because a girl is confident and smart doesn’t mean they can’t be exploited.
One can see why an 18 y/o would want to date a 30 y/o. But you can’t possibly fathom why a 30 y/o would want to date an 18 y/o— unless it’s for sex or you enjoy the power imbalance, which again you can’t possibly blame the girl because that's just the adult exploiting the barely legal girl. And that would, SHOULD still earn a side eye. One can easily see why Rachel would be attracted to the prospects of sleeping with Frank if it meant being able to facilitate her drug abuse and him being a possible lead to her birth mother. One can easily see why Rachel would be attracted to a world-renowned photographer who's suddenly taking an interest in her of all people, someone who can essentially give her her shot to stardom and give her dreams on a silver platter. It's hard to run the other way if everything you've ever dreamed of is suddenly being offered right in front of you, harder if you've already been charmed to feel falsely safe with them.
You cannot blame a girl for falling for men that manipulated and took advantage of her vulnerability, exploited her, especially when she had no commitments or obligations to anyone whatsoever, no one telling her ‘stop, this is wrong’— completely no one to warn her that this was a predator and she’s the victim that they’ve been eyeing since she was 15-17.
Still think this wasn’t what was happening to Rachel? Her relationships with Frank (32) and Jefferson (38) were kept in absolute secrecy even though Rachel wanted to tell Chloe (who wasn’t even a student anymore) about Jefferson. I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t sound safe or healthy at all.
EDIT: Even if somehow you dismiss the messed up predatory grooming aspect of this, the thing going on between Rachel and Frank was highly inappropriate and predatory because they were always under the influence of drugs. Consensual or not, Rachel was most likely always high around Frank which means she would've been in a vulnerable state each time and with drugs and alcohol clouding her judgment. A person under the influence— a drunk person CANNOT give consent. One of the letters she wrote to him even suggests that he was abusive at one point which indicates this wasn't a functional, much less healthy relationship at all. Heck, there's even an unused audio line where Max says: "Frank, I actually believe that you do hurt Rachel."— which just screams abuse. No idea why they decided to cut that out (DN is already sus with the way they try to make players sympathize with abusive men), but it still definitely is a reflection to what generally happens when drugs and sleeping with an older man that can facilitate their addiction is involved.
This would be different if Rachel was messing with guys their age, but no. This is specifically a girl who was being taken advantage of and exploited by men twice her age instead; one who was a drug dealer and the other who turned out to basically be a psychopathic drug rapist.
It’s just downright messed up to victim blame and demonize the girl who was being taken advantage of and groomed. Rachel didn't 'choose' Frank or Jefferson. She was victimized.
With all things considered, even if we don’t take BtS into account— we still have all these things to properly analyze what their relationship was.
Tumblr media
If we were to include in the words of the developers/writers about the girls’ relationship to make it more credible and not just an analysis of a random fan, from LiS1:
Jean-Maxime Moris: There is ambiguity. (Creative Director)
They never confirmed whether Rachel and Chloe were in an actual relationship despite it not being up to the player like Max and Chloe. And relationships that are described to be ambiguous usually means it was complicated and not the usual standard of a monogamous exclusive relationship.
Read more in this Reddit post:
I hope this clear things up. If you read all the way til here, Thank you. Here are a few art I generated based on Rachel in the comics book cover 🧡

HR book recs for leads with an age gap (as in 15 yrs + kind of age gap, since a 10 year age gap is fairly standard)?
I gotta few!
What I Did For A Duke by Julie Anne Long--lmao definitely, she's like... 20ish, he's pushing 40. To me this is a perfect age gap romance, because you get the kind of... taboo nature of him being experienced and teaching her things while also enjoying the "he is unmanned by her" aspects.
After Dark with The Duke by Julie Anne Long--Heroine is 25, Hero is 42. I think he has a grown son who's maybe a few years younger than her? But yeah, she's a scandalous opera singer and he's an uptight duke who is hopelessly turned on by her. There's this great scene after they fuck for the first time and she's in his office and they have a very normal conversation and before she leaves he's like "oh also. I found your hairpin on my floor. So like. If you want to come back. And see if there are other hairpins in my room. Feel free."
Whitney, My Love by Judith McNaught--15 year age gap. Personally, I like this book, and it is a classic... But it's very long, and if you get your hands on the original, unedited version, he does rape her. It's a "rape but she enjoys it" thing, but it's rape.
Lady Sophia's Lover by Lisa Kleypas--I believe this one has a heroine in her early to mid twenties and a hero pushing 40. She's basically trying to seduce him out of revenge due to something he did to her family, and it's a lot of fun. He's a widower/lawman hero, she's a disgraced lady who works in his household.
Dearest Rogue by Elizabeth Hoyt--The age gap here isn't quite where you want it (I think it's around 12 years--he's 33 and she's 21) but you get a lot of the age gap fun because he's also her bodyguard and is very "OH MY GOD WHAT AM I DOING I HAVE RUINED HER" whenever they do something sexual. I think he like. Dry humps her to mutual completion very spontaneously at one point? And the next day they're like that monkey puppet side eye meme in the carriage. In stone cold silence lmao.
Gentle Rogue by Johanna Lindsey--I wanna say this is a 15 year age gap? It's old and problematic and it's been way too long since I last read it to tell you how problematic it is... I'm guessing dubcon/rape-but-she-enjoyed-it, because Johanna Lindsey... But it is a classic.
A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught--I want to say the heroine is 17 and the heroine is 30ish? Which, yes, she is underage, but it is also a medieval romance written in the 80s, and it's fucking good. I prefer this to Whitney, My Love. There's some dubcon but it's honestly pretty mild.
Seducing A Stranger by Kerrigan Byrne--Morley is like... 40/nearly 40, and Pru is in her early twenties, I believe. It's... a lot. You have the "he loses himself in this girl" angle, and he does in fact penetrate and come inside her within like half an hour of meeting her, so like. Yay! She gets pregnant, there's a marriage of convenience and a murder mystery, he's very mad at himself about it.
The Chasing of Eleanor Vane by Sierra Simone--A novella, I know you can find it in Duke I'd Like to F... not sure if you can find it independently (but the collection is worth it). He's definitely in his 40s or thereabout, she's probably early twenties as she's engaged to his nephew and ward. HOT. Also, both main characters are bi, I believe.
My Dirty Duke by Joanna Shupe--Another novella from the above collection. Lmao this shit... is so hot. I cannot. Even. He's literally her father's best friend so the age gap is significant. I want to say he's around 40 and she's... 18? 20 max. But she basically propositions him and he's like I COULD NOT POSSIBLY but as it turns out... he could definitely.
Duke of Pleasure by Elizabeth Hoyt--Honestly, I'm not 100% sure on the age gap in this one, but I want to say the heroine is 21 and the hero is a widower and man of action so like... I assumed he was in his thirties. She's also spent a lot of time disguised as a boy so she's not very used to being treated as a lady~. There is a very memorable scene where he's all "pretend you're blowing me so that everyone assumes I'm just getting head from a random and they move on"... while they're on a mission~? And she's like nah I'm just gonna actually blow you lmao. I think this precedes them actually hooking up so it's A DOOZY.

Hey guys!!! Thanks to our lovely anon/blog historian, Soupy, we now have a recorded history!! Blog lore, my beloved. I'll try and start adding in our new things too, but to any newbies out there, come take a look :):):):)
About the lore for this blog, i cannot remember everything, but i can do something about the cursed asks lore and history, since i just scrolled all the posts in the tags!
31 Jan 2021: an anonymous send an ask asking what people actually mean when they tell a ship if "pedophilic". This start a big number of asks about real survivor and how fucked up is fandom water down the word, purity culture, and consequently story time about harassing people in fandom for purity culture.
1 Feb 2021: someone speak about how much fucked up fics helped them. This probably opened the possibility of cursed asks. The same day, someone other send an ask about a terrible person known for harassing people about the sexuality of a character. The person is called "train fucker".
2 Feb 2021: anonymous point the attention on the train fucking thing. The cursed ask tag is created.
In the following hours, always in the cursed ask tag, people discover the fandom was Death Note and the guy was apparently in real attracted to trains and planes. Hell break down, memes are created.
History is made.
One of the characters will later become protagonists of the tag already existed. PKD already was knew since the 22 Jan 2021, when they sent an ask about the color asks and you had the intuition the tags he was probably someone with a piss kink and the tag "chronicles of piss" was created.
Cursed ask history part 2:
At this moment on time, the tags is still not clearly used. One of the First post tagged as such, the 9th Feb, is an anon answering to the ear fucking conversation about micropenis, while all the other posts are not tagged. The day after PKD enter the cursed asks tag, while the others ask still stay out of it. People start sending the stories they read.
12 Feb Hagrid/Hedwig fics are discovered. Owl fucking anon appear. Someone suggest a friendship between them and mlp guy.
Also mlp pony guy is a lore being who did not appear before in the #cursed asks, but already had their history in the simpler ask tag and in the previous cancel scale period, that we could call the ancestor of #cursed ask.
The First post tagged as cancel scale is from the 2nd Jan 2021. It was an anon answering your post of the same day "alright guys scale 1-10 how screwed r u if it ao3 history and bookmarks get released".
This is the gold era of this blog lore. The philanthropist, wound fucking discourse, rpf bdsm and mlp guy (with the first ask behind paywall) appeared during the first month and a half of the year, mixing at the end with the cursed ask tag.
Cursed ask history part 2:

Cursed ask history part 3:
The philanthropist appeared the same day #the cancel scale started. With their iconic "i am a shameless philanthropist and so my bookmarks are public. I eat dead doves for breakfast. Come on down to the buffet y'all! You want some wound fucking? 8-yr-old omega abortion? I got you fam, watch me scramble these eggs" they left a forever sign in this blog. Still to this days asks are written to know if they are good. They obtained a 12/10 in the cancel scale.
Wound fucking discourse started, also the same day, by CB answering "is that where the wound fucking comes in??" At a ask about vivisection and medical experimentation. Discourse about what classify as a wound and how it works continued trought the day.
Rpf bdsm is thought to have beat the philanthropist with their mix of rape, underage, incest in a foursome, huge age, rpf tentacles and, mostly, someone getting turned into a pickle and his partner fucking himself with it.
This also started a string of asks about people being transformed in object used for sex.
Rpf bdsm would appear again later that day to specify the pickle fic was a rpf.
Cursed ask history part 4 (i think? Already lost the count)
Mlp guy. The one and only. Always in the terrible 2 Jan 2021, they first appeared in the tags of an answer to a marvel ask. #Hey HEY mlp guy #u know who u r #i'm afraid to look at this ask #like yeah we saw some shit tonight but this blows that outta the fuckin WATER #y'all would dead ass have to pay me to post it
Someone noticed the tags and asked about it, and a strong sexual tension between everyone and the unpublished mlp ask started. Someone ended up paying, cause the ask was later published as last post of the day and terrorized every follower of the blog. It was published as screenshot of the ask, and is not even put in the #cancel scale.
MLP guy stayed so in the apex of the cursed asks for some months, till the Pokémon ask by soupy was published the 9th may 2021, taking home a 15/10. MLP guy made a Tumblr profile, @therealmlpguy, in retiliation, and reblogged answering with a new terribly cursed fic. CB have still not voted it, so who have the worst cursed ask is still in question.
The day of #cancel scale the blog fanficmemes lost many followers, but the story was, as we know, not finished.
Cursed ask history part 5
I like to stay an half cryptid of this blog, so i will not tell my blog of origin, but i can tell you I am Soupy. Also i need to know if i am actually considered a cryptic of the blog and if i need to make a lore post about myself XD.
This is starting to get hard cause i cannot reread what i already sent, but the end of the tunnel is near.
We already told about owl fucking anon in the cursed ask tag, but their story is a bit more longer. The cursed ask was actually their big return, and they are probably one of the most proficious lore making, having also a part in the creation of the PKD legend. They should really have their own tag.
How? Well.
The 17 Jan 2021, when the big part of the cancel scale was done and the elders of the lore created, they sent an anon ask about what the cancel scale made them remember. It was a fic, red when they were ten or eleven, about someone fucking an owl while the owl was on their period. Consensual, and apparently the authors were two teen girl who write only character x owl. Their mom proofread. CB answered with their profile picture, edited so that it red "i can't believe it's gotten even worse!" Instead of "i can't believe it's not canon".
This post created, if we want to say, PKD, cause their first ask, that assigned them piss kink, was yes about the color asks (that, in case someone does not remember, was CB asking what colors people assigned to them), but had as explanation "if you keep posting stuff like the owl period whatever". So the owl fucking anon indirectly created, the 22 Jan 2021, PKD.
Owl fucking anon continued their ascension to lore of the blog.
The 12th Feb 2021 sent an ask were they were surprised someone had found Hagrid x Hedwing fics, and than sent anther 9 parts ask about the story of how they red lot of cursed shits thanks to an old tumblr blog that had the links, and how from there they found an author who only published Hagrid x Hedwing, and how that introduced them to FF smut.
(it is also discovered they are only 15, baby, please, i am noone to talk with the shits i red at the time but i hope you are ok).
They are now consacrated in the memory of the blog.
Cursed ask history part 6
Before continuing with the history of the cursed asks, is now time to finally give a small talk about PKD. We know how they originated, but how they become so famous?
Probably is the fact they appeared so many time during the last months. Being it for cancel scale, cursed asks or just normal asks, they continue to give us company with their exploration of piss kink fic. Is true they soundly negate having the kink the first months, but after lot of memes and people speaking about it, the 25 Apr 2021 they finally admitted of having the kink, and discovered it reading an a/b/o Captain America fic.
I would suggest to read all the posts, but they stopped being tagged halfway through, so is half in the specific #chronicles of piss and half in the #cursed ask
Cursed ask history part 7
The big lore is finished, and now only the later history stay.
#cancel scale posts and #cursed asks post lived side by side for some days. The owl fucking one of the 12 Feb was actually the last cursed fic published in the cancel scale post, leaving the tag only for some history reference later.
#cursed asks saw the appearence of every type of cursed possible to thought, with scat and nipple fucking between the different tags. At the start there was no specific day chosen, but later, for CB schedule reasons, Saturday was assigned as cursed ask day, and some week later it was moved to Sunday.
And here we are, today, to see what other cursed things we will bring in this world
Cursed fic History part 8
The cursed fic History have been covered, but i still think is important to talk about some of the before time tags that created the good ecosystem for the creation of #cursed ask.
The most famous is #the lube discussion.
It started the 23 Aug 2020, when CB wrote a post about FF using the word "supple" in smut without the thing being actually supple. In the tag, they added #also #that does Not work as lube.
Some anon asked what was being used as lube, that was answered with "one was peanut butter. I will not discuss the other". This started the bug lube discussion, were everyone talked about what they continingly see used as lube when it cannot be used as lube.
Between the classics soap and blood, we see some more daring one as mud, yogurt, aloe vera, years, milk, hot sauce and the more intersting, cannoli (have no idea if they are talking about the cream you put in cannoli or some american thing i don't know).
Nothing reached cursed material, but it put the first seed for the blog.

Edith: @twinfiresignsswift
Hi, my name is Edith and I’m a 15 yr old from California! Anything related to cats is my ideal thing. I’m currently the mother of a tabby cat named Jagger who is very shy, grumpy, and introverted just like me, so the two of us get along very well 🥳 both of us are def party poopers. Anyway I enjoy art, especially watercolor! Initially I wanted to become an artist when I grew up, but I realized I would be poor asf, so now I want to major in biology and become some type of zoologist because animals are the best. In 2014, 5th grader me became obsessed with Blank Space and my life immediately changed from that day on. My favorite album is Speak Now because of how magical and well written it is. My 1 brain cell could never manage to write a whole masterpiece like that all by myself. And my stan song is You Are in Love!! It makes my heart go 💕💗💓 I am so incredibly grateful that I got to see Taylor for the first time ever on rep Pasadena night 1. It was the best day of my life :,) I know so many others do not have the same opportunities; I know how they feel, so I try to stay as humble as I can. I would be such a boring and sad person without Taylor and her amazing lyrics. She is such an amazing role model. Thank you for always being there for me, I will love you forever and always, and I am so excited to see what you have in stock❤️
Jess: @jessheartstaylor

Hey I’m Ravae!! I’ve loved Taylor for as long as I can remember my sister has listened to her forever so I grew up listening to her!! Taylor inspires me everyday to be a better person and she’s a great role model. Her music helps me through the really rough times but also puts me in a better mood through the good times! I hope to meet you one day! Love you Tay🦋💞🌈💘🥺

Ella: @ellalovesswift
Hey! My name is Ella and I’m 17 years old. I’ve loved Taylor ever since the day my dad thought I needed my own music instead of just listening to his, this was when I was just seven years old and my dad bought me the fearless album and I fell in love with Love Story!! Ever since then I’ve never stopped loving Taylor! Other than her music, I’ve grown up with Taylor and every day she has inspired me to be a better person! My favourite songs are enchanted, better than revenge and dress! I’ve been to the red and reputation tours in Melbourne! Other than Taylor I am a swimmer. I swim a lot and it’s been a part of my life since before Taylor! I hope one day I can hug her and tell her how much she’s impacted my life! I will always stay, love you Tay 💗🦋💓🌸

"Our Stories"
Written to my boys based on a conversation between myself and 15 yr old. Attempting to take blame in this family falling apart due to my illness. Their mother left with the money wasn't an option until a teenager expressed his awareness and observations.
Details will remain between him, my mother, and myself, But I did not look long for inspiration. Never mistake silence for being inattentive. You cannot hear with your mouth running I guess. That was the input from the six year old. Hmmm?
Preface 7-17-16. Mason, do you telling me about choices?
wrote this poem last night for you and Cole in hopes of promoting awareness tin what we owe ourselves,..by pushing what's good. It's all about thinking before your do or you say. Those choices shape your life and the effects are not necessarily immediate, can be years down the road. As a manager, I promise you have to look down the road. At the Air Center if I was making calls pertaining to the present, it was likely too late. My job was
to come. You said it was all about choices and that we only own our own. "Daddy, nothing we do makes somebody else's for them..." You are one sharp young man! One thing I am aware of is, in the end, there is an accountability. Eventually you answer for your choices.
Our Stories
Our Stories are written with each passing day. They are shaped and gave meaning by what we do and we say. Each day we are given a page fresh and new. At day's end that emptiness was only something we knew. Each night our page is full, and it waits there to turn, to again a blank slate awaiting actions and words.
We live and we learn as those pages fly by. Full from memories of good things but also reasons to cry. What is written some days we should forget then we should shred. There will always be bad things we should regret that we said. Then there is what was wonderful, those good times all of us knew. A call to give Thanks My Dear Lord for those Blessings we knew.
One day without notice, our pages they're none. You'll find he gave choice and its his will that shall be done. We must hold onto our stories, and proudly soar through the sky. Then hand them to God honoring the lives that went by. You can believe the story is special, it's all about you, in fact it was written by what you say and you do.

~ Issue # 35 ~ Allies & Enemies, Part 3 Of 3: All The Best Angels Have Daddy Issues ~
PAGE 1, PANEL 1
Half page vertical panel. Head to waist profile shot of Abbadon stood on the balcony of Sam’s Prague apartment, with a view overlooking the river Vitava and the Charles Bridge, the city in the glow of sunrise. Sam is stood just behind him, clearly just woken up and dressed in black pyjama bottoms and vest she’s stretching and yawning.
CAPTION: Mala Strana, Prague.
CAPTION: Present day.
ABBADON: Ah, good, you’re awake. I shall be leaving soon.
SAM: * Yawn * I hoped you would stay longer.
ABBADON: Impossible. I’m afraid our plans cannot wait. I had hoped  young Epiphany would be at our side by now, but …
PAGE 1, PANEL 2
Two panels on this vertical tier. Head to waist shot of Sam, the apartment interior behind her.
SAM: You didn’t expect her to kick the crap out of you.
PAGE 1, PANEL 3
Head to chest shot of Abbadon, with Sam in a head to waist shot behind him.
ABBADON: Yes, that. This is certainly something I didn’t foresee.
PAGE 1, PANEL 4
Page width panel. Similar to panel 1, but now Sam is in the foreground, stood beside Abbadon looking out with him over the city.
SAM: Maybe we should have seen it coming given how she ended up in that coma in the first place.
ABBADON: Perhaps.
SAM: I don’t see how we can bring the others over to our way of thinking while she’s out there running around. If anything it’ll split us up.
PAGE 2, PANEL 1
Three panels on this top tier. Head to waist profile shot of Abbadon looking down at the street below, considering his previous actions.
ABBADON: Yes, it is possible I made a mistake.
PAGE 2, PANEL 2
Essentially the same as the previous panel as he silently considers.
PAGE 2, PANEL 3
Similar to the previous two panels but now he’s staring out toward the city again and there is a more focus in his stare.
ABBADON: No, this will be.
PAGE 2, PANEL 4
Three panels on this bottom tier. Half face shot of him with the left side of his face on the right of the panel, lit in the glow of sunrise.
ABBADON: I task you dear sister to find young Epiphany and bring her to me, together I believe we can bring her back to herself.
PAGE 2, PANEL 5
Sam’s face fills the panel. There’s a sly, knowing look in her eyes.
SAM: Okay, that should be a doddle. Any ideas where I should start?
PAGE 2, PANEL 6
Head and shoulders profile shot of Abbadon, looking thoughtful.
ABBADON: That dear sister, I leave to you. I have complete faith in your unique ability to get this done. You will not let me down.
ABBADON: You never have.
PAGE 3, PANEL 1
SPLASH: Similar to the splash on page 16, panel 1 of issue # 17 with a young Epiphany and Callum in a full shot running through the knee high grass of a prairie field, with the grass in the foreground and a spring blue sky with puffy clouds above them. It’s a pretty idyllic and beautiful scene and in the following panel we realise it‘s part of a dream Gabriel is having. Epiphany is about 10 yrs old, Callum is shorter and about 7 yrs old.
ARTIST NOTE: The Chapter title is written at the top of the splash panel, Allies & Enemies, Part 3 of 3: All The Best Angels Have Daddy Issues.
The sub title is In which a celestial intervention occurs and a family is reunited.
QUOTE: Beware the ghosts that haunt us, for they are not always dead.
PAGE 3, PANEL 2
Page width panel. Full shot of Gabriel asleep on the living room sofa. He’s bare chested, face down, head to the side, one arm hanging down limply with Mathias curled up on the arm of the chair.
PAGE 4, PANEL 1
Three panels on this top tier. Head and shoulders shot of Gabriel, laying on the side of his face, on one of the sofa cushions with Mathias curled up beside him on the arm of the sofa.
PAGE 4, PANEL 2
Similar to the previous panel but now he’s laying on a bench of some sort. There’s a grey wall behind now and Mathias has disappeared.
PAGE 4, PANEL 3
Full shot of him now stood in front of the wooden bench, with a waiting room window behind him and leaves blowing in the foreground.
GABRIEL: Intriguing.
JEREMIEL ( O.P ): I apologise for the interruption, Lord Morningstar.
PAGE 4, PANEL 4
Page width panel. Wide shot of an old fashioned train station. A grey, drab place. The kind of virtually abandoned, rarely used station found in the English countryside. On the left of the panel is Gabriel near the bench and on the right of the panel are two Arch angels, Jeremiel and Uriel. Unlike his fellow angel, who wears golden armour Jeremiel wears pale blue robes with a ceremonial sash of gold similar to issue # 32. He’s still a hawk nosed looking angel but now with white in his long dark hair,  there’s still something about him that’s more ancient than his fellow angels.
GABRIEL: Using my dreams to contact me, that’s a very old trick, Jeremiel.
JEREMIEL: But one that still works very effectively, wouldn‘t you say.
URIEL: All the better to keep away from prying eyes.
GABRIEL: An interesting place for a meeting.
JEREMIEL: It’s your dream.
GABRIEL: Ah.
PAGE 4, PANEL 5
Three panels on this bottom tier. Head and shoulders semi - profile shot of Gabriel.
GABRIEL: Why are you here and why now?
PAGE 4, PANEL 6
Head to waist profile shot of Gabriel facing Jeremiel, with Uriel stood just behind his fellow angel, illustrating their respective positions.
JEREMIEL: Straight to the point. It is comforting to see that has not changed.
GABRIEL: And … ?
PAGE 4, PANEL 7
Close up forehead to chin shot of Jeremiel, with his face filling up the panel.
JEREMIEL: The point is, Lord Morningstar, is that a new war may be coming.
PAGE 5, PANEL 1
Two panels on this top tier. Head and shoulders semi - profile shot of Gabriel, his expression sceptical. He’s heard this too many times.
GABRIEL: I’ve that heard before, but tell me, what is there left to fight for? We lost everything. You may have your wings, but you’re still lost, Jeremiel, still refugees, just like me. Our home is gone.
PAGE 5, PANEL 2
Close up shot of Jeremiel, reflected in his pupil is an image of the Crystal City.
JEREMIEL: Nothing is gone forever. We are bringing the Crystal City back.
PAGE 5, PANEL 3
Page width panel. Head to waist shot from behind of Gabriel, with Jeremiel and Uriel stood either side of him. They are looking out from the platform over to fields and a clear blue sky.
GABRIEL: How?
URIEL: We are rebuilding it.
JEREMIEL: We are tired of being refugees. We are tired of living in the spaces inbetween. The angels are returning to the light.
PAGE 5, PANEL 4
Three panels on this bottom tier. Head and shoulders semi - profile shot of Gabriel.
GABRIEL: Then tell me, is it true that the god of gods is dead?
PAGE 5, PANEL 5
Head to waist profile shot of Gabriel and Uriel, with Uriel in the foreground.
URIEL: We believe that it is.
GABRIEL: But you’re not sure.
URIEL: No, we are not.
PAGE 5, PANEL 6
Similar to panel 1, a head and shoulders semi - profile shot of Gabriel.
GABRIEL: And you chose to remain silent, why?
PAGE 6, PANEL 1
Page width panel. Full wide shot of the three of them stood on the platform, with the waiting room window behind them, reflecting the light.
JEREMIEL: Because we feared what may happen. A power vacuum, even among gods, is no different from any other vacuum. It must be filled.
GABRIEL: The universe abhors a vacuum, right?
URIEL: Precisely. God will fight god, angel will fight angel, all for a place upon an empty throne.
PAGE 6, PANEL 2
Insert.
Close up shot of Gabriel. Head and shoulders shot, still looking sceptical.
ARTIST NOTE: The insert is in the bottom right hand corner of panel 1.
GABRIEL: Not for the first time and I’m still here, so why should I care? I have no wings. No position among you? I should let you fight it out. The world might be better off without you.
PAGE 6, PANEL 3
Three panels on this bottom tier. Head to chest semi - profile shot of Jeremiel, his hair catching the breeze as he looks on impassively.
JEREMIEL: Because you care about the mortals. This war will be different. They are here now.
JEREMIEL: A new war will ravage this world, destroy the mortals in its wake, and everything you hold dear will be gone.
JEREMIEL: We know you care for them. We can give you your wings back if you agree to help.
PAGE 6, PANEL 4
Head to chest profile shot of Gabriel and Uriel, with Uriel in the foreground.
GABRIEL: I wonder, are you giving the same offer to my sister?
URIEL: She appears to have disappeared. We cannot locate her.
PAGE 6, PANEL 5
Head and shoulders semi - profile shot of Gabriel, with a knowing look.
GABRIEL: She’s good at that. She won’t be found until she’s ready.
PAGE 7, PANEL 1
Half page vertical panel. Head to waist shot of them still stood looking out from the platform, with Jeremiel in the foreground.
GABRIEL: One thing a don’t understand, why the pretence with finding the new gods. Why get us to do that if you knew he was already dead.
JEREMIEL: We did not know. We only suspected.
URIEL: It was Metatron who set you upon that path. We were only his messengers.
PAGE 7, PANEL 2
Half page panel. P.O.V shot from the interior of the station waiting room, through the glass and cobwebs, with a head to waist shot of them from behind with the fields and clear blue sky beyond.
GABRIEL: Of course.
JEREMIEL: So will you help us?
GABRIEL: Perhaps, if I knew what it was you actually wanted me to do.
PAGE 7, PANEL 3
Three panels on this bottom tier. Jeremiel looks completely unearthly in this panel, with the sunlight glinting off the window behind him, his blue eyes momentarily gone, just windows to the stars.
JEREMIEL: Ah, yes, I apologise. I thought we had made it clear. What we want you to do is find the person who killed the god of gods.
PAGE 7, PANEL 4
P.O.V shot from the interior of the station waiting room again, through the glass and cobwebs, with a head to waist profile shot of Gabriel facing them.
GABRIEL: Why me?
URIEL: Because we are watched. We are seen. We do not know who we can trust.
PAGE 7, PANEL 5
Forehead to chin semi - profile shot of Gabriel studying them, curious.
GABRIEL: But you trust me?
PAGE 8, PANEL 1
Two panels on this top tier. Head to chest shot of Gabriel now turned away from them, brow furrowed, considering, with Jeremiel and Uriel in a head to waist shot stood just behind him.
JEREMIEL: We trust in your vested interest regarding the mortals.
GABRIEL: And I’m the only one who can help you?
PAGE 8, PANEL 2
Head and shoulders profile shot of Jeremiel, his angelic shadow cast on the wall.
JEREMIEL: As we see it, yes. You are in a unique position. Fallen, outcast to many of our brethren. You are all but forgotten.
PAGE 8, PANEL 3
Page width panel. Head and shoulders shot of Jeremiel and Uriel from behind. Gabriel is now stood at the platform’s end, facing away, and past him we see the train track stretching off to the horizon.
GABRIEL: Okay, then I have a proposition for you.
JEREMIEL: You have a proposition for us?
PAGE 8, PANEL 4
Three panels on this bottom tier. Full shot of Gabriel, still stood at the platform’s end but now he’s turned to face them, full of determination.
GABRIEL: Forget about my wings. Forget about my position. I don’t need them. I’ve lived long enough without them. What I do want is your help. Help me and I’ll point you in the right direction.
JEREMIEL ( O.P ): The right direction?
PAGE 8, PANEL 5
Similar to the previous panel but now it’s a head to waist shot of him.
GABRIEL: Let’s just say I’m very familiar with someone who’s already investigating this. If anyone can find out what’s going on they can.
PAGE 9, PANEL 1
Three panels on this top tier. Head to waist shot of Gabriel from behind, with Jeremiel and Uriel facing him in a full shot along the platform.
URIEL: And you want our help in return?
PAGE 9, PANEL 2
Head and shoulders semi - profile shot of Gabriel staring at them.
GABRIEL: Yes, in finding my daughter.
PAGE 9, PANEL 3
Head and shoulders shot of Jeremiel, the incomprehension clear in his face.
JEREMIEL: Your daughter? I hardly think …
PAGE 9, PANEL 4
Two half page panels on this bottom tier. Forehead to chin semi - profile shot of Gabriel, his face filling up the panel, his stare is piercing.
GABRIEL: That’s my offer, Jeremiel. That’s the deal, take it or leave it.
GABRIEL: Give me what I need and I’ll give you what you need.
PAGE 9, PANEL 5
Similar to the previous panel, but a closer shot, focusing on his eyes.
GABRIEL: Trust me, now is not a good time to test my patience.
PAGE 10, PANEL 1
Page width panel. Wide shot of the bookshop. On the left of the panel is a full shot of Gabriel placing a book on a shelf. Sat on the top of the shelves washing himself is Mathias. On the right of the panel at the base of the spiral staircase is a full shot of Gwen. In the foreground there’s a pile of books on the central table.
GWEN: Hey.
GABRIEL: Good morning, Gwen.
GWEN: I bet everything’s in alphabetical order, isn’t it.
GABRIEL: Yes, why?
GWEN: Just wondering.
PAGE 10, PANEL 2
Insert.
Head and shoulders shot of Gwen, studying him with a quizzical expression.
GWEN: Is there something you want to say? You look like there is but there ain’t no words coming out.
ARTIST NOTE: Insert is on the bottom right hand corner of panel 1.
PAGE 10, PANEL 3
Two panels on this tier. Head to waist shot of them facing each other, Gabriel still holding a book and Mathias jumping down behind them.
MATHIAS: Scuuuse me.
GABRIEL: I have also been wondering.
GWEN: ’Bout what?
GABRIEL: About whether you have properly considered what finding your mother means.
PAGE 10, PANEL 4
A closer shot of them now, head to chest, with the bookshelves in the background.
GWEN: Of course I have.
GABRIEL: What we find might not be what you are expecting.
PAGE 10, PANEL 5
Two panels on this bottom tier. Forehead to chin semi - profile shot of Gwen gazing intently at him.
GWEN: I ain’t expecting anything one way or the other. Hey, I know the deal. Mum went mad before her coma, don’t mean she’s gonna be any better now ‘ cause she’s been asleep for twenty years.
GWEN: I get it.
PAGE 10, PANEL 6
Similar to the previous panel but now her expression is full of confusion.
GWEN: So what are you expecting?
GWEN: Gabriel?
PAGE 11, PANEL 1
Page width panel. Wide shot of Gabriel on the station platform, once again facing Jeremiel and Uriel, though this time the surroundings are more dream like, faint, like an unfinished painting.
GABRIEL: What? …
GABRIEL: How did you? … I am not exactly dreaming, Jeremiel.
JEREMIEL: Which is why we only have but a moment.
PAGE 11, PANEL 2
Two panels on this tier. Head to chest profile shot of Uriel facing him.
URIEL: We have located your daughter.
PAGE 11, PANEL 3
Full face shot of Gabriel, his face filling the panel, his gaze steady.
GABRIEL: Then tell me.
PAGE 11, PANEL 4
Two panels on this bottom tier. Head to waist profile shot of Gabriel and Jeremiel now stood closer together, only a few feet between them.
JEREMIEL: Our bargain?
GABRIEL: Still stands, but my daughter first.
PAGE 11, PANEL 5
Half face shot of Jeremiel, the left side of his face on the right of the panel.
JEREMIEL: Very well.
PAGE 12, PANEL 1
Two panels on this top tier. Gabriel and Gwen in a full profile shot. Gabriel is now sat on the spiral staircase - Mathias just behind him - and Gwen is crouched by him and peering intently.
MATHIAS: Most curious.
GWEN: Hey, what is it? You seemed to drift way off for a minute there.
PAGE 12, PANEL 2
A closer head to waist shot of them now with Gwen’s face full of surprise.
GABRIEL: I know where your mother is.
GWEN: What you mean you know where she is? How?
PAGE 12, PANEL 3
Two panels on this tier. Head to chest shot of Gabriel walking away, with Gwen and Mathias behind him, still by the staircase.
GABRIEL: I made a deal.
GWEN: With who? When?
GABRIEL: It doesn’t matter. What does matter is that we leave now.
PAGE 12, PANEL 4
Similar to the previous panel but in the background Gwen is now turning to climb the stairs and Mathias is running up ahead of her.
GWEN: I’ll get the others.
GABRIEL: No, I fear their presence would only complicate matters.
PAGE 12, PANEL 5
Three panels on this bottom tier. Head to waist shot of Gwen still stood on the staircase but now she’s turned back to face him.
GWEN: And yours won’t.
PAGE 12, PANEL 6
Forehead to chin shot of Gabriel, his face filling the panel, his gaze intense.
GABRIEL: If we’re going, Gwen, then we have to go now.
PAGE 12, PANEL 7
Similar to panel 3. Head to chest shot of Gabriel walking away again, his face rigid, full of determination, with Gwen now following after him and Mathias watching them from the staircase.
GWEN: Okay, okay. They’re gonna be pissed though.

Full exterior shot of ‘The Devil’s Crow’ pub. It’s now raining heavily.
ARTIST NOTE: Insert is in the top left hand corner of panel 2.
EPIPHANY ( O.P ): I know this place …Who am I? WHO … AM … I?
PAGE 13, PANEL 2
Full page vertical panel. Head to waist profile shot of Epiphany holding Cob tightly by the throat, forcing him up against the bar, and with her other hand she has the knife she acquired from the street thug perilously close to his eyes. She’s still dressed in the white vest and jeans that belonged to the street thug too, and her hair is soaked through, straggly and her eyes wide and wild.
ARTIST NOTE: Panels 1 and 2 are vertical. Panel 3 - 5 are vertical.
COB: It’s me, girl, don’t you remember, old Cob. You know this place. Barely changed a bit it has. Came here with your dad you did.
EPIPHANY: Your eyes are old, very, very old. But good or bad? I really can’t tell. Maybe I should pluck them out just to be sure.
PAGE 13, PANEL 3
Three panels on this vertical tier. Similar to the previous panel but now Cob’s eyes are wide with terror and we can visibly see him sweating with the knife so close. For her part Epiphany is studying him, like a child studies a bug, deciding whether or not to squash it.
COB: Nah, you don’t wanna do that, not to old Cob, eh? Don’t you remember, you and your brother, sitting there on them stools.
PAGE 13, PANEL 4
Head and shoulders shot of Epiphany, holding the knife up in front of her, suddenly at the mention of her brother her whole posture has changed. she’s no longer threatening or deranged but confused, unsure. From the pain in her eyes the mention of her brother has struck deep.
EPIPHANY: My brother? …
PAGE 13, PANEL 5
Head to waist profile shot of Cob slumped against the bar, his head bowed, his body sagged, clearly glad to still be breathing. In the background Epiphany is going along the darkened toilets corridor out toward the back door.
COB: Oh, thank the Lord.
GABRIEL ( O.P ): Cob?
PAGE 14, PANEL 1
Two panels on this top tier. Head to waist semi - profile shot of Cob in the foreground, still sagged against the bar, but now looking up to see Gabriel stood in the front doorway with Gwen behind him.
COB: Gabe! She was just here, young Epiphany, she was just ‘ere.
GABRIEL: Where?
PAGE 14, PANEL 2
Head and shoulders shot of Cob, his eyes still full of fear and sweating.
COB: She went through to the backyard. She was awake and everything.
PAGE 14, PANEL 3
Two panels on this tier. Head to chest shot of Gabriel headed into the pub, with a head to waist shot of Gwen just behind him.
GABRIEL: Stay here.
GWEN: In your dreams.
PAGE 14, PANEL 4
Head to waist shot of them moving along the darkened toilet corridor.
GABRIEL: Epiphany?
GWEN: Perhaps you should …
PAGE 14, PANEL 5
Two panels on this bottom tier. Full shot of them stood in the back doorway. In the foreground is a typical old fashioned backyard of a pub, with high red brick walls, crates and barrels and pigeon shit. It’s raining heavily and water is pooling on the ground.
GABRIEL: Do not interfere.
GWEN: She’s my mother.
PAGE 14, PANEL 6
Head and shoulders semi - profile shot of Gabriel, his eyes alert, ready.
GABRIEL: Then stay close. And do exactly what I say.
PAGE 15, PANEL 1
Half page vertical panel. Almost a full length shot of Epiphany standing in the rain, water streaming down her face. Her arms limp at her side, the knife barely held. Behind her is a full shot of Gabriel and Gwen.

EPIPHANY: Killer …
PAGE 15, PANEL 3
Head to waist shot of Epiphany from behind now facing Gabriel and Gwen, who are in a full shot and approaching her.
GABRIEL: No, that isn’t what you are. It never was.
EPIPHANY: You.
GABRIEL: What?
PAGE 15, PANEL 4
Two panels on this tier. Close up shot of Epiphany, her soaked hair hanging down over her face as she glances at him, full of rage.
EPIPHANY: You killed me.
PAGE 15, PANEL 5
Head and shoulders shot of Gabriel, suddenly caught off guard, suddenly looking far more vulnerable than we’re used to seeing him.
GABRIEL: No, I …
PAGE 15, PANEL 6
Two panels on this bottom tier. Similar to panel 4 but Epiphany now has a taunting smile on her lips, like  a cat playing with a mouse.
EPIPHANY: Stab, stab, stab. Watch the blood flow. Daddy watched his little girl go.
PAGE 15, PANEL 7
Head to waist shot of Gabriel reaching his hand toward her. In his face we can clearly see the love of a father, his eyes softly pleading.
GABRIEL: I had no choice, please, try to remember.
PAGE 16, PANEL 1

GABRIEL: Yes … but I can help you.
EPIPHANY: Help?
GABRIEL: Yes.

GWEN: Both of us can.
PAGE 16, PANEL 4

EPIPHANY: Wait … the girl. Who is she? She seems … familiar.
PAGE 16, PANEL 5
Forehead to chin face on shot of Gabriel, his expression imploring.
GABRIEL: Yes, you know her, but now is not the right …
PAGE 16, PANEL 6
Two panels on this bottom tier. Head and shoulders semi - profile shot of Gwen, rain streaming down her face as she looks to her mother.
GWEN: Mum? …
PAGE 16, PANEL 7
Similar to panel 4, but now Epiphany’s eyes are narrowed with rage again as she begins to put the pieces together and realise who Gwen is.
EPIPHANY: Mum? … You took her. You took her from me!
PAGE 17, PANEL 1
Page width panel. On the right of the panel is a head to waist shot of Epiphany lashing out with the knife, slashing a clearly shocked Gabriel across the upper arm, while Gwen reacts in alarm.
EPIPHANY: Bastard!
PAGE 17, PANEL 2
Insert.
Head to chest semi - profile shot of Gwen being punched hard in the chest by Epiphany’s fist, hitting her backward into the wall.
ARTIST NOTE: Insert overlaps the bottom right hand corner of panel 1.
GWEN: Arrrghh.
PAGE 17, PANEL 3
Two panels on this tier. Head to chest shot of Gwen sagged up against the wall, a gash on her forehead, a desperate longing in her eyes.
GWEN: No, please … this isn’t you!
PAGE 17, PANEL 4
Full profile shot of Epiphany stood over Gabriel, who has now fallen to his knees onto the wet ground, clutching his bloodied arm.
EPIPHANY: No, this is me. He saw to that.
PAGE 17, PANEL 5
Three panels on this bottom tier. Similar to the previous panel but now Epiphany is striking out again, kneeing the kneeling, defenceless Gabriel directly in the face, his head jerking back violently.
GWEN ( O.P ): No!
PAGE 17, PANEL 6
Head to chest shot of Epiphany in the foreground walking away. In the background Gabriel lays on the ground while Gwen struggles to get up.
PAGE 17, PANEL 7

GABRIEL: Epiphany …
GWEN: Hang on, Gabriel, just hang on.
PAGE 18, PANEL 1
Two panels on this top tier. Exterior shot of the bookshop from across the street. The evening sky is still grey but the rain has stopped.
ANNA ( O.P ): What the hell was he thinking?
GWEN (O.P ): I’m not sure he was.
PAGE 18, PANEL 2
Head to waist profile of Gwen and Anna up in front of each other, both frowning with anger, Redgrave stood just behind Anna. Gwen’s face is heavily bruised after her encounter with Epiphany.
ANNA: Then what the hell were you thinking?
REDGRAVE: We’re part of this too, Gwen.
GWEN: When it suits you.
ANNA: Now wait a minute.
PAGE 18, PANEL 3
Two panels on this tier. Head and shoulders shot of Gwen jabbing her finger at them. She’s clearly not in the mood for this.
GWEN: No, wait nothing. I don’t owe you any explanation and neither does he. Don’t you think he’s taken enough of a battering today?
PAGE 18, PANEL 4
Head to waist shot of Anna and Redgrave from Gwen’s P.O.V, both of them looking a little guilty and a little surprised at her outburst.
PAGE 18, PANEL 5
Two panels on this bottom tier. Head to chest semi - profile shot of Gwen looking out through the living room window thoughtfully. The P.O.V is from outside looking through the glass. Behind her are Redgrave and Anna in a head to waist shot.
GWEN: Yeah, maybe it was a mistake us going off like that but I’m not apologising for it and neither is he.
REDGRAVE: When exactly did you two get so close anyway?
PAGE 18, PANEL 6
Similar to the previous panel, but now her expression is thoughtful, as if she’s just come to this particular realisation herself.
GWEN: It’s not that, it’s just I get where he’s coming from a lot more now.
PAGE 19, PANEL 1
Three panels on this top tier. Full shot of Epiphany walking along an alleyway. In the background are the top of suburban houses and orange sky above.
PAGE 19, PANEL 2

EPIPHANY: I know you’re there. Show yourself.
PAGE 19, PANEL 4
Page width panel. In the foreground is a head to waist shot of Sam from behind with Epiphany in a full shot, half turned, half facing her.
SAM: As you should. Our family is linked in ways others could not possibly understand.
EPIPHANY: Family? I know you …
SAM: But you find it hard to remember, yes?
PAGE 19, PANEL 5
Three panels on this bottom tier. Head and shoulders semi - profile shot of Epiphany, frowning deeply, struggling to remember, her eyes narrowed like she’s trying to see through a thick fog.
EPIPHANY: Yes, it’s like I’m looking at an old photograph, but it’s blurred and I can’t see the faces properly. And it hurts my head.
PAGE 19, PANEL 6
Head to waist profile shot of Sam now stood a few feet from Epiphany.
SAM: You’ve been asleep for a long time, Epiphany. If you come with me there is someone who can help you remember …

SAM: Everything.

URIEL: I am sorry your reunion with you daughter did not go well.
GABRIEL: Are you?
URIEL: I am. Jeremiel struggles to understand such things. I do not.
PAGE 20, PANEL 2
Two panels on this tier. Head to chest semi - profile shot of Gabriel. Up close we can properly see how battered he is. His face heavily bruised, eye black and cut, and there’s a cut on his lip.
GABRIEL: I see. Is there a reason why you’re here alone?
PAGE 20, PANEL 3
Head to waist profile shot of Uriel seen through the glass of the waiting room window from inside, with Gabriel next to him in a head shot.
URIEL: I am here without Jeremiel’s knowledge.
GABRIEL: Why?
PAGE 20, PANEL 4
Page width panel. Full wide shot of Uriel now sat on the bench with Gabriel.
URIEL: Because he didn’t tell you the whole truth.
GABRIEL: Hardly a surprise.
URIEL: No, but the reason he didn’t tell you the whole truth is because he feared it would compromise you helping us in our aims.
PAGE 21, PANEL 1
Two panels on this top tier. Forehead to chin semi - profile shot of Gabriel, clearly intrigued now.
GABRIEL: How so?
PAGE 21, PANEL 2
Head to waist profile shot of Gabriel and Uriel, with Gabriel in the foreground.

GABRIEL: Yes, but I don’t see how …

Two panels on this tier. This panel is from the opposite direction now, still head to waist, now with Uriel in the foreground.

GABRIEL: I still don’t see … No. I knew he woke Epiphany, but …

URIEL: We believe that it was your brother, the usurper, who brought about the god of gods downfall.
PAGE 21, PANEL 6

GABRIEL: Why? To what end?
PAGE 22, PANEL 1

ABBADON: Well, Scimitar. We’re finally home.
PAGE 22, PANEL 4
FULL PAGE SPLASH: In the foreground is a full shot of them from behind. Up ahead of them, somehow, is the Morningstar family home, WinterSong, as gleaming and as pristine as it was a millennia ago.

Angel
Answer to the Inquiry Why I Sighed
Before no mortal ever knew
A love like mine so tender, true,
Completely wretched—you away,
And but half blessed e’en while you stay.
If present love ⟨– –⟩ face
Deny you to my fond embrace
No joy unmixed my bosom warms
But when my angel’s in my arms.
source.
Yrs. my Angel with inviolable   Affection
July 2-4, 1780.
Adieu my angel, be happy and love me as well as I love you
July 6,1780.
For after all the proofs I have of your tenderness and readiness to share every kind of fortune with me it is a presumptuous diffidence of your heart to propose the examination I did. But be assured My angel it is not a diffidence of my betsey’s heart, but of a female heart, that dictated the questions. I am ready to believe everything in favour of yours; but am restrained by the experience I have had of human nature, and of the softer part of it.
September 3, 1780.
The day before yesterday, my angel, I arrived here, but for the want of an opportunity could not write you sooner.
July 10, 1781.
I have received my angel two letters from you since my arrival in Camp with a packet of papers, and I have written to you twice since I saw you. I acquainted you with the assurances that had been given me with respect to command, and bad you dismiss all apprehensions for my safety on account of the little prospect of activity.
July 13, 1781.
In my last letter My Dearest Angel I informed you that there was a greater prospect of activity now than there had been heretofore. I did this to prepare your mind for an event which I am sure will give you pain. I begged your father at the same time to intimate to you by degrees the probability of its taking place. I used this method to prevent a surprise which might be too severe to you. A part of the army My Dear girl is going to Virginia, and I must of necessity be separated at a much greater distance from my beloved wife.
August 22, 1781.
They were right my angel to dissuade you from the journey; for they did not know the particular motive I have at this time to desire its having taken place; and they naturally supposed it might embarrass me to quit my corps to meet you, as well as give a handle to the censorious.
August 25, 1781.
Let others waste their time and their tranquillity in a vain pursuit of power and glory; be it my object to be happy in a quiet retreat with my better angel.
September 6, 1781.
Adieu My darling Wife My beloved Angel Adieu
October 12, 1781.
Your letter of the 3d. of September my angel never reached me till to day. My uneasiness at not hearing from you is abated by the sweet prospect of soon taking you in my arms.
October 18, 1781.
⟨The post my⟩ angel has met with some interruption (I suppose by the river being impassable) which deprives me of the pleasure of hearing from you. I am inexpressibly anxious to learn you have began your journey.
January 8, 1783.
I give you joy my angel of the happy conclusion of the important work in which your country has been engaged. Now in a very short time I hope we shall be happily settled in New York.
July 22, 1783.
Adieu My Angel love me as I do you    Yrs. for ever
July 28-31, 1784.
I am to request you to agree for the purchase for me, if at that price. If you cannot do better, you may engage that the whole shall be paid in three months; but I could wish to pay half in a short time and the other half in a year. Adieu my Angel
March 17, 1785.
Three or four days since I wrote to My angel by the Post, since which I have received a letter from her. I am very unhappy to hear that my beloved is out of health. Heaven grant it may soon be restored. I entreat her to take care of herself & keep up her spirits. I cannot yet determine what will be our stay here and consequently I can make no determinations about my love; but I feel that it will be impossible for me to submit to a long separation however inconvenient it may be to incur the expence which will attend her coming here. I entreat you my charmer to let me hear from you as often as possible; for I stand in need of every consolation you can give for my absence from your dear bosom. Give my love to my darling Philip & kiss with all possible tenderness the other two. Adieu my dearest angel. Heaven bless you
May, 1786-April, 1788.
I am miserable My beloved angel that I cannot yet come to you; but this abominable business still detains us & will do it for some days
May 28, 1789.
Adieu My Angel take care of yourself & think always of Your Affectionate A.H.
September 11, 1790.
I am again My beloved Betsey in the hot City of Philadelphia; but in good health. And you may depend I shall take all the care in my power to continue so. Will you my Angel do the same? Consider how much our happiness depends upon it; and I pray you do not relax in attention.
July 27, 1791.
Adieu My angel. Assure yourself always of my tenderest affection & unceasing prayers.
August 10, 1791.
Inclosed my angel yo⟨u⟩ will find 200 Dollars in bank Notes.
September 4, 1791.
I hope My Dear Eliza’s health has mended. Remember, My Love, you have a husband & other Children than the little sick one whose happiness depends on you. Pray exert yourself to preserve & better your health at all events. Adieu My Angel
August 2, 1794.
I wrote you two or three times last week. But since my last I have received another letter from you which does not remove my anxiety. The state of our dear sick angel continues too precarious. My heart trembles whenever I open a letter from you—The experiment of the Pink root alarms me but I continue to place my hope in Heaven.
[...]
Adieu, my Angel
August 17, 1794.
Adieu Angel
July 19, 1797.
Have patience my Angel & love me always as you have done.
August 9, 1798.
I expected with certainty my beloved Betsey to have left this place to day. Our business has consumed more time than was necessary. But that is not my fault. I cannot make every body else as rapid as myself. This you know by experience. Tis a consolation however that we cannot be detained much longer. It is difficult for Sloth itself to spin it out beyond this day & I shall fly to you the moment I can.
Adieu My Angel
December 10, 1798.
Adieu my Angel   Yrs. with unceasing tenderness
February 10, 1800.
I long to come to console and comfort you my darling Betsey. Adieu my sweet angel. Remember the duty of Christian Resignation.   Ever Yrs
A H

How was your heartbreak?
Heartbreaks are always interesting story to tell, not because bad incidents are more attractive, but for many perspective they can be seen yet still interesting. Most people see heartbreaks as an end, but they also can be brand new beginnings too. Heartbreaks mostly refer us to think of lovers, but they occur between other people and things too. So as thebeginning of the month of love, let’s talk about heartbreaks.
(I think I am too influenced by the heavy rain and the gloomy mood and unable to stop thinking how miserable I will be on the upcoming Valentine day, but please ignore it.)
Frankly, I wanna write about a heartbreak today for some of the people who are close to me went through it recently. not to mention that I too, still recovering from one. So since I have asked about yours before (from the title, yes) therefore I will slightly tell you about mine.
My heartbreak was sophisticated. Literally.
The latest massive heartbreak I had was almost a year ago when I was dumped. yep, you didn’t read it wrong. I had this boyfriend whom I dated for almost two years, and I actually believed him when he said: “It’s not about who is the most perfect, let’s stick around each other no matter what happens and protect what we have. (re: the relationship)” It was one of the most beautiful things someone ever said to me, really, only if he actually meant it -which he did not.
Anyway, I was so in love with him that the breakup -although I knew best that it was the only and best way for me- fucked me up pretty bad. Still-haunted-by-the-same-person-for-a-year bad. No matter how much he hurt me that time, and me being completely aware that it’s so much better for not having him around, I will not lie, my mind flies to his image whenever I hear a love song; if you know what I mean. And there are points when I feel really tired of it, I mean, come on, heart, it’s almost a year and we all know that he never worth it. My friends keep telling me to stop thinking of him and stuffs, but seriously, I wish I know how. I too, feel stupid when a hot guy tries to hit on me but I cannot feel anything towards him, not even a glimpse of attraction, but in the contrary I keep on dreaming of the same jerk.
I mean, I know, technically I just have to focus on whatever I’m doing now, building my career and new social life, upgrading myself and shits. And I’m trying to do it now, I work hard and enjoy life on my spare time, what can possibly go wrong? Why have I not in peace? Well, one thing was wrong. I believe in myself too much I forgot that there’s a greater power that I can always rely on.
So one night, I kneeled down and prayed. I asked God, how?
The next day I went to church and got this readings from Rome 12:
Love in Action
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[c] Do not be conceited.
17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[d] says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;   if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”[e]
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Did you see the italic lines? My tears almost bursted out when the priest actually reading those. Those words penetrates my soul.
Once again, Jesus answered my prayer.
The passage lead me into thinking of how I have been managing my heartbreak for the past year.I was deeply hurt so that I am blinded to other things, I keep playing victim, and therefore I keep being hurt. It’s like I closed the door, but let the windows open.
So how did I manage my heartbreak all this time?
When I am down. I share with people. First mistake, I hardly share with God on the first place. Second, was it really all sharing to lessen the burden? was it not to justify myself and make me feel a bit more at ease, (just a bit, since it will come again) and create the feeling as if I have forgiven him and move on?
Honestly speaking, I haven’t forgiven him. I know I have to and I think I have been trying to, but I have not. Another mistake.
It’s like when someone tells you that they fell from a bicycle. Which one is more effective? Asking how they fell or telling them how to treat the wound (or even better, help them!). And vise versa, I won’t get better from telling everyone how I got heartbreak, no matter how much satisfying it feels.
It is SUPER HARD to restrain myself from not talking about how cruel he was towards me for all this time (I lose myself most of the times, too), like so hard until I need to write it on capslock. But then I realize I just spread hatred, maybe now too what is left inside of me for him is not love, it’s just hatred. We all know love and hatred are thinly separated, anyway. But hey, it’s been a year and talking about how shitty my ex bf is proven as ineffective alternative.
I prayed for him, many times, but did I really mean it? How can a real prayer come out from a heart full of hatred? I really don’t have the answer for that.
In case you can not grasp what I’m implying, to put it simple: to overcome a heartbreak, you need to LOVE MORE. Because when you love like Jesus does, there will be only goodness, as you can read again from the passage. Those are what we do when we love, especially when what we love is something (or someone) evil.
Tumblr media
Finally, I understand what the quote was all about.
The first time I know this quote was from another heartbreak of a good friend of mine, when she was betrayed by her 10-yrs relationship-boyfriend yet she couldn’t come to say goodbye. She thought it was the reflection of the quote, when we love someone so much untill it hurts, then we become unable to feel the hurt again and only keep loving. Yeah, I know, stupid, and wrong too! LOL
But I did feel the same way when I thought I could not come to hate my ex. Another mistake to the list. When you love someone or something so much but somehow whatever it does only causes you pain, love more. Why? Love does not hurt. If you really love, only goodness comes out from you, whatever happens, you will be able to smile and say, “I still love you.” If you don’t, you haven’t loved enough.
Need an example? Sure.
I once was told about how afwully annoying I was and got asked, “how can your mom stand with you all along? how can your friends bear to be with you all this time?” Well, they love me. Truly love me. I lied to my mom, I fought with my friends, we’ve been through bad times, but here we are, we keep up with each other.
And again, I feel so blessed to know Jesus as my Savior, for not only He leads us with true example, He literally tell us how, in a very educative way. He does not give a list of Dos&Don’ts but He lists the essence of His teachings, for us to be interpreted an applied according to our situation, problems, and faith. And today, I learnt how to deal with my heartbreak.
If this does not make sense to you, no problem at all. I used to be called ‘too naive’ whenever I try to explain how I wanna be fair or keep on seeing the positivity out of the bad people/things, like “you need to see how cruel the world can be and it does not work by kindness at all.” I might not know the world as much as you do, but I know everyone in the world needs kindness, and love. I know it sounds lame and not cool, but hey, it works for me, so why don’t you try it too?
So how was your heartbreak? Because mine is just hard enough to push me loving more. I hope I don’t annoy you with this post, tho, lol. Keep on loving! Cheers!

Refuting Muslim apologists claims that Aisha was over the age of 6 when she married Prophet Muhammad via /r/atheism
Submitted June 02, 2021 at 02:00PM by mrbeats1 (Via reddit https://ift.tt/3vLxV35) Refuting Muslim apologists claims that Aisha was over the age of 6 when she married Prophet Muhammad
I am an ex muslim and it aggravates me so much when I see Muslim apologists blatantly and shamelessly lying whenever this topic is discussed and the sad part is many laymen and people who aren’t too knowledgeable about this topic are deceived by them. I want to clarify some important things in this post
Aisha was 6 when Muhammad asked her father, Abu Bakr, (also his closest friend) to marry her after having a dream of an angel carrying a young girl covered in a blanket and bringing her to him when he lifted the veil, he saw that it was Aisha. He interpreted this dream as a command from Allah to marry her. When he proposed the marriage to her, she remained silent and Muhammad said “her silence is her consent”. Aisha then moved into Muhammad’s house when she was 9, which is when the marriage was consummated. A 53 year old Muhammad had raped a 9 year old girl
Where do the reports that Aisha married Muhammad when she was 6 come from? They come from Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. Sahih Bukhari is the second most important book in Islam after the Quran, and the most authentic book of hadiths, Sahih Muslim is also considered the most authentic and trusted book of hadiths. A very large part of Islamic history, tradition, rules, laws, jurisprudence stems from these two books. Which is why it annoys me so much when Muslim apologists say that the hadiths that say Aisha was 6 are weak hadiths in an attempt to trick laymen and unknowledgeable people, when the exact opposite is true. The hadiths that say Aisha was 6 are considered authentic/trusted. I will post them in the comments
Another trick that Muslim apologists employ is that they downplay the significance of the hadiths and claim hadiths in general are just unreliable as they were compiled many years after the death of Muhammad. They claim hadiths are just secondary Islamic sources and not as authoritative, definitive, or significant in Islam. That is a complete and utter falsehood, it is so laughably false, because there is a 99.9999% chance that the same people saying that do actually believe in the hadiths and recognize the hadiths significance in Islam, but are just saying that to save face. Also the Quran was complied into one text many years after the death of Muhammad too, and were a compilation of many verses written on rocks, leaves and what not over the course of 20 years , and Qurans with different Arabic dialects were discarded in favour of one dialect
The Quran is actually a quite shallow book and reveals virtually zero personal details about Muhammad or his companions as the Quran is only what Allah was saying to Muhammad depending on the circumstances Muhammad was in. The way Muslims pray, the stories of the end times, Islamic rituals, all the battles that Muhammad participated in, his interactions with his companions, all the major stories in Islam, the personal life and details of Muhammad come from hadiths. The majority of Islamic law is derived from hadiths and the seerah. You cannot have Islam without the hadiths. Period.
People who only take the Quran into consideration and reject the authority of hadiths are considered infidels by almost all Islamic scholars. BUT the Quran (65;4) also permits child marriages; with the verse saying that girls who have not yet menstruated have a waiting period of 3 months before they are permitted to remarry
Some Muslim apologists say there are some hadiths that say Aisha was actually 12/14/18 at the time of the narriage: THIS IS FALSE. There is no hadith out there that says Aisha was 12 or 14 or 18 at the time of the marriage. They just made that up
The 3 other arguments Muslim apologists use are: 1) Aisha’s sister, Asma was 10 years older than Aisha, and from a hadith that states the date of her death and the age at which she died, we can determine Aisha’s birth year, and hence that Aisha was 18 at the time of the marriage . The issue here is that this report is considered inauthentic/untrustworthy/weak by Islamic scholars and the text from which this report came from is discarded and considered unreliable by Islamic scholars. Ironic because Muslim apologists say that the hadiths that say Aisha was 6 are weak hadiths, but they are actually using weak hadiths themselves.
2) Muhammad’s daughter Fatima was 5 years older than Aisha, and using the birth year of Fatima as a reference point and adding 5 yrs to it to get Aisha’s birth year, we can determine Aisha was actually 12 at the time of the marriage. The issue here is this: There are 2 reports, one says that Fatima was born in the year of 605, and another separate report that says she was born in 611 and she was 5 years older than Aisha. What Muslim apologists did was they used the first report that Fatima was born in the year of 605 and then inserted that she was 5 years older than Aisha, when the first report did not say Fatima was 5 years older than Aisha. They deceptively inserted the second contradictory report with the first one to make Aishas age older.
3) Aisha participated in a battle shortly after their marriage and Muhammad only allowed people 15 or older to participate in battles, so Aisha was actually 13/14 at the time of the marriage. The issue is that Aisha was not a combatant in the battle, she was acting as a nurse, so the minimum age of 15 did not apply to her.
Other notes: Muhammad married a 17 year old Saafiya when he was 58, a 19 year old Hafsa when he was 53, a 20 year old Juwariya when he was 57, and married all of his daughters off before or at the age of 10

DECODING THE DRACONIAN RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND DEFAMATION
Abstract –
The research paper has been attempted to address basic questions about the types of defamation, libel and slander, different forms of defamation; criminal and civil, and examined the position of cases falling under this.
            Mainly the work has been done with three objectives of the research paper;
To examine the essentials constituents and Defences of defamation.
To examine, Right to freedom of speech as one’s right and duty towards others.
To examine the different conditions and grounds, where the relationship between parties becomes the barrier of defamation.
The research paper has examined the value of the right to reputation and how, with the growing importance of human rights and freedom of speech, the balance is gradually getting more evened out between the two. It is to be kept in mind that the citation has been mentioned according to the guidelines of NTCC.
  INTRODUCTION
Defamation is an act of communicating false statement to malign or lower down or to form a bad opinion of someone, which ultimately injures someone’s reputation.
It is a wrong done by a person to another by words, written or spoken, sign, or other visible representations; though our constitution provides the ‘Right to freedom of speech’, on the other hand, it protects the “Dignity and reputation” of one.
Mere hasty expression spoken in anger, or vulgar abuse to which none would attribute any set purpose to injure the character would not amount to defaming a person.
The law has imposed a general duty on all person to refrain from making false, defamatory statements of fact about others
According to Dr. Winfield, defamation can be defined as: “the publication of a statement which tends to lower a person in the estimation of right-thinking members of the society, generally or, which tends to make them shun or avoid that person.”
Examples: A posted a comment on B’s blog saying that the blog’s author had been in prison for 2 years. It certainly sounds like a defamatory statement if it is false.
DEFAMATORY STATEMENTS MADE VIA INTERNET ARE ALSO ACTIONABLE
Quoting the current case which happened in May 20, “boys locker room” in which boys were body-shaming girls and even they mentioned about rape and performing it on an Instagram group named: BOYS LOCKER ROOM, although it was wrong, this never allowed others to bring their past event and portray on social media without any proof; many did that and started posting stories, how they were body-shamed, started tagging the boys who do such things with the girls, but no one stood up and checked the reality of the facts, because of ‘few fake facts’ an innocent boy named, Manav Singh, 17 yrs. young student of Heritage School, Gurugram committed suicide.
Although social media is a great platform for generating awareness, spreading information, it does never permit someone to say such wrong words about someone that ultimately affects one’s mental health and stress forces them to take extreme action which will not only affect them but the people around them and the ‘society’ too.
It is therefore, necessary to examine the freedom of speech, limitation under certain such laws they came into existence.
  FORMS
Defamation is actionable both under civil law and a criminal charge under section 499 and 500 of IPC.
  CRIMINAL DEFAMATION
Section 499 of IPC: “whoever by words either spoken or intended to be read, or by sign or by visible representations, makes or publishes any imputation concerning any person intending to harm, or knowing or having reason to believe that such imputation will harm, the reputation of such person is said to defame that person”.
It’s a bailable, non-cognizable, and compoundable offense, which means no police can register a case and start an investigation without the court’s permission, and in a criminal case intended to defame is necessary.
Punishment for the defamation under the criminal charges has been mentioned u/s 500 of IPC.
Section 500 of IPC: “whoever defames another shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine or both”.
Case: Mr. M J Akbar filed criminal defamation case against a woman journalist, who accused him of sexual harassment.
In which, M J Akbar filed the case through his advocates Karanjawala and co. against journalist Priya Ramani, who along with 10 other women, had accused him of sexual harassment.
  CIVIL DEFAMATION
In civil matters of defamation, it need not necessarily follows as criminal offense.
Civil defamation generally covered under the Law of Torts, which is actionable and attracts punishment in the form of damages.
Under civil charges defendant never goes to jail, if found guilty, matters are resolved by awarding liquidated damages, where in a civil suit, intention to defame is not necessary.
Case: In the matter of D.P. Choudhury v. Manjulata, the plaintiff-respondent, Manjulata about 17 years of age, belonged to a distinguished educated family of Jodhpur. She was a student of B.A. There was the publication of a news item in a local daily, Dainik Navjyoti, dated 18.12.77, that the last night 11 p.m. Manjulata had run away with a boy named Kamlesh after she went out of her house on the pretext of attending night classes in her college. The news item was untrue and was negligently published. It was held that all defamatory words are actionable per se and in such a case general damages will be presumed.
  TYPES
There are two types of defamation: libel and slander
  LIBEL
It is a representation made in a permanent form that will harm the reputation of someone, writing, movie, pictures, etc. are such examples.
For e.g., X printed some advertisement saying Y is bankrupt, whereas in fact Y was not so. Thus, such representation is a specific form.
  SLANDER
If the statement is made by oral words or gestures, then the defamation falls under slander.
For e.g., A questions the chastity of B in an interview, such actions of A are slanderous.
METHODOLOGY
In accordance with the objectives of the current study, the doctrinal method of research has been adopted. The doctrinal method has been used to examine various cases and incidents regarding the defamation.
  OBJECTIVES
To examine the essentials constituents and Defences of defamation;
To examine, Right to freedom of speech as one’s right and duty towards others;
To examine the different conditions and grounds, where the relationship between parties becomes the barrier of defamation.
  ESSENTIALS
To establish defamation, a plaintiff normally must prove the following:
STATEMENT OF FACT
Is whether the defendant made a statement of fact or a statement of opinion?
A statement of fact is a statement that can be proved as being true or false with some standard objective.
A statement or expression of opinion is a statement that a person believes to be true but it cannot be measured against an objective standard and is usually not actionable.
g., X says that I think Y is a criminal. It’s not a defamatory statement as it is X’s opinion about the Y.
PUBLICATION REQUIRED
Publication in the case of defamation means that the defamatory statements are communicated to a third person other than the defamed party (third party).
Anyone who publishes or repeats defamatory statements is liable, even if publisher reveals the source of the statement. Both are jointly and severally liable for action.
g., if A publishes an advertisement in a local newspaper stating false information that the company of B has committed fraud of Rs 10 crore. Now, this statement will amount to defamation as this newspaper will be read by many readers and will surely injure the reputation of B’s company.
In Mahender Ram Vs. Hiranandani Prasad – In this case the defendant wrote a letter to defaming the plaintiff in Urdu script. But plaintiff did not know Urdu. Therefore, he made a third person to read it. It was held that if the defendant was unaware of the fact that the plaintiff was not knowing Urdu while writing the letter, and it would necessitate reading of the letter by a third person, then he exempted for his liability.
Any means of publication is acceptable, the necessary element is that facts need to be defamatory and need to be communicated to a person more than the defamed party[1].
DEFAMATORY AND FALSE STATEMENT
The statement needs to be defamatory in nature, which means communication of such words needs to be there which will ultimately harm the reputation of the person
Statement needs to be false, true facts are not considered under defamation.
Each publication of defamatory statements will be considered as individual publication and the person will be liable according to it, and if the same person publishes the same statement again then he’ll be liable for the second communication of the same material.
g., A publishes about B, that he was sent to jail for fraud and rape, but factually B was charged for fraud. Such statement will cover under defamation as false facts are been examined.
P. Chaudhary vs. Kumari Manjulata – In this case, the defendant, a local newspaper publisher, published a statement that the plaintiff, a 17-year girl, ran away with her boyfriend. But literally, she went to attend her evening classes. In this case the court held that the defendant is liable for defaming the plaintiff and awarded some nominal amount to her.[2]
STATEMENT MUST REFER TO THE PLAINTIFF
Defamatory statement needs to be specifically for the plaintiff. It need not be of generalized nature like statements made for doctors, lawyers, teachers etc.
Newstead vs. London Express Newspapers LTD – The defendants published a defamatory article stating that Harold Newstead, a man who belongs to Camber well, had been convicted of bigamy. The story was actually true. But the action for libel is brought by another same-named person Harold Newstead, who was also a barber. As the words were considered to be understood as referring to the plaintiff, the defendants were liable. [3]
Harsh Mendiratta vs. Maharaj Singh – In this case the Delhi high court states that the suit of defamation is only maintainable by the person who was defamed, and not by his family or his friends.[4]
STATEMENT MUST CAUSE SERIOUS HARM: EITHER ON REPUTATION OR FINANCIAL LOSS
g., The plaintiff lost his job because of the statement made.
DEFENCE
The following are the Defences taken in an action for defamation: –
JUSTIFICATION OF TRUTH
The truth is the most important defence or justification for defamation.
The foremost point of the defamation was ‘false’; therefore, true statement won’t fall under defamation.
This is because only false statements against a person constitute defamation.
Hence, if the person making the statements proves them to be true, he can escape the charge.
Alexander vs. North Eastern Railway – In this case, the plaintiff was travelling in a train without ticket, had been sentenced to a fine of 1 pound or 14 days’ jail as an alternative. The defendants published the notice that the plaintiff was charged the fine of 1 pound or 3 weeks’ imprisonment as an alternative. The plaintiff alleged that the defendant had committed libel by describing the penalty issued to him inaccurately. It was held that the statement was substantially true, so defendants are not liable.
FAIR AND BONAFIDE COMMENT
A fair bonafide comment on a matter of public interest is a Defence in an action for defamation.
Essentials of a fair comment are:
That a comment or criticism need not a statement of fact.
The comment is on a matter of public interest.
The comment is fair, bonafide and honest made in good faith.
g., Making statements against maladministration by a government’s cabinet minister may not amount to defamation.
PRIVILEGED STATEMENT
As the word itself suggest; giving special status to some, with limitation (special occasions, particular time and place)
Special occasions when the law recognizes that the right of free speech outweighs the plaintiff right to defamation and a defamatory statement made on such occasion is not actionable. E.g., A member of parliament has an absolute privilege for any statement he makes in parliament.
The constitution grants complete immunity from prosecution for defamation for such statements.
Such privileges sometimes exist in judicial proceedings as well.
APOLOGY
In the case the person who makes the defamatory statements issues an apology, he can escape from liability.
For the Defence, the person suffering the tort of defamation must accept the apology and pardon him.
There is a special case of INNUENDO in defamation which means, when the statement was prima facie innocent but because of some secondary meaning, it may be considered to be defamatory.
For this secondary instance plaintiff must prove the secondary meaning i.e. innuendo which makes the statement defamatory.
For example: Z makes a statement that X is an honest man and he never stole my watch. Now this statement is at first instance may be innocent, but it can be defamatory if the person to whom it was made, interprets from this that X is a dishonest man having stolen the watch.
In other words, innuendo is a sarcastic comment or carrying dwell meaning made on a person.
TYPES OF DAMAGES AVAILABLE IF ONE HAS BEEN DEFAMED             Whether you’ve experienced defamation as such or pre quoted, it’s necessary to grasp what damages are accessible to you.
Damages are an umbrella term for any kind of monetary compensation awarded to a victim during a civil case. Most defamation plaintiffs request to payment of compensatory damages within the form of special damages and general damages and punitive damages if they’re out there. It may be a token amount also’
  SPECIAL DAMAGES
Special damages are comparatively easy and are mentioned as liquidated damages. As one would possibly imagine, an award of special damages is supposed to reimburse a victim for actual damages. Actual damages would possibly include loss measurable or assessable in cash values, loss of business, and expenses incurred in legal action against the defamation.
Special damages should be well-documented. the great news is that this could be accomplished with proof that may be simple to get like bank statements, tax returns, and proof of expenses within the variety of invoices and receipts. Plaintiffs has to supply testimony to claim their claims for restitution.
One may require the assistance of associate witness to assist prove damages. In defamation cases, knowledgeable supply specialised information in rhetorical accounting, business, promotion, or IT knowledgeable witnesses will enlighten the court the precise nature of the defamation and its impact on the victim. they’ll conjointly give complicated monetary analysis to calculate your economic damages. The unbiased, skilled opinion of associate witness will go an extended approach toward influencing a jury’s call to award damages.
GENERAL DAMAGES
General damages may be more durable to quantify during a defamation case. they’re conjointly brought up as non-economic damages. indemnity compensate plaintiffs for emotional distress and reputational hurt caused by the defamation. Proving emotional distress may be a troublesome task during a defamation cause. whereas it’s intuitive that libellous statements showing emotion have an effect on a victim, proving this is often a challenge. witnesses will facilitate prove emotional distress, and their testimony will generally be weighted additional heavily than the victim’s testimony.
If one has full-fledged emotional distress as a result of defamation, keep track of however it’s compacted his lifestyle together with disruptions routine like sleeping habits, appetite, and participation in social activities.
Reputational damages are a typical consequence of defamation. A plaintiff’s testimony alone is also low to get a bequest for reputational damages. the most effective thanks to prove hurt to one’s name is to supply third-party testimony or objective proof of harm to the reputation.
  PUNITIVE DAMAGES
The objectives of damages are not to compensate one because the complainant for the defendant’s actions to defame others. Courts could award damages to penalize and deter the defendant’s actus reus. The punishments in such cases are not exemplary.
DEFAMATION CLAIMS THAT SEMICONDUCTOR DIODE TO JUDGMENTS
To explore what it takes to prove damages, let’s discuss a couple of defamation cases involving on-line content that yielded judgments for plaintiffs. detain mind that damages analysis is particular to every case and once liability has been established, there are many ways to prove damages and damages awards will vary wide betting on the facts of the case.
Above, the boy’s room case was conjointly mentioned keeping the facts in mind concerning the defamation on-line.
DEFAMATORY GOOGLE REVIEWS
In Fireworks Restoration Co., LLC v. Hosto, the complainant with success brought a defamation claim against a former business partner WHO announce 3 pretend Google reviews regarding the business once their relationship sour. The jury awarded the complainant $150,000 in damages that was upheld as an exemplary damage.
The court noted that the testimony of third-parties on the plaintiff’s diminished name and also the proof bestowed of the plaintiff’s monetary losses once the negative reviews were announced was enough to prove reputational injury. Fireworks Restoration Co., LLC v. Hosto, 371 southwest 3d eighty-three – Mo: Court of Appeals, Japanese Dist., 2012.
DEFAMATORY WEBSITES
In Bouveng v. Nyg Capital LLC, the complainant was awarded $1.5 million in damages for her defamation claim against her former leader that was upheld on attractiveness.
In this case, the complainant didn’t request economic damages, however the judicature based mostly its call to uphold the decision on the injury the complainant suffered to her name. The defendants engaged in an in-depth on-line campaign to slander the complainant for nearly a year by posting libellous articles on a web magazine they closely-held. The articles defendant the complainant of being a sex slave, criminal, felon, partaking in fraud, and enclosed various different libellous statements the judicature delineate as “egregious.” The defendants conjointly used SEO techniques to govern the plaintiff’s search results that resulted within the statements reaching many thousands of individuals.
The court found that the plaintiff’s name had been grievously broken. In assessing the reputational injury suffered by the complainant, the court noted proof of the intensive reach of the libellous statements, their prominence within the plaintiff’s Google search results and their probability to hurt the plaintiff’s name within the future.
DEFAMATORY FACEBOOK POSTS
In Laugh land v. Beckett, the complainant was awarded $15,000 normally damages and $10,000 in punitive damages once the defendant created a pretend Facebook account impersonating him. The court found that the defendant was motivated by a need to win romantic favour with the plaintiff’s former girlfriend.
The account announces various statements regarding the complainant that the court found libellous like occupation himself chiseller, a bank manipulator, and a foul father. The pretend account created active makes an attempt to speak with different people on Facebook regarding the complainant and had six friends. The judicature found that the pretend Facebook account had broken the plaintiff’s name.
The court conjointly found that the defendant’s actions were intentional and malicious that supported a penitentiary injury award to penalise him and deter others from similar conduct.
There are clearly more examples of cases in which plaintiffs were awarded damages for defamation, however the foremost necessary factor to recollect is that proving damages related to defamation is not easy but troublesome however not impossible.
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND DEFAMATION
“Liberty is not a personal affair but a social contract”
Common law has provided protection to reputation through the law of defamation. It’s been recognized for a protracted life with that protection of reputation that will conflict with freedom of expression. This is often the most reason why the connection ‘between the protected interest in reputation and also the competing interest in freedom of expression’ has begun to vary. Freedom of expression is not any longer ‘to be thought to be a residual personal right, however is interpreted as a positive right reinforced by the general public interest. Most notable case of ‘Reynolds v Times Newspapers’ explains freedom of expression in terms of the general public interest ‘in receiving and imparting data within the context of a democratic society’.
  REYNOLDS V TIMES NEWSPAPERS LTD [2001] 2 AC 127
Publication of defamatory political information not subject to general qualified privilege
  Facts
The plaintiff was a former Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland. He began proceedings against a British newspaper publisher in relation to an article which alleged that he had dishonestly mislead parliamentary and cabinet colleagues whilst in office. The defendants pleaded the Defence of qualified privilege at common law. The plaintiff was successful at trial.[5]
  Issue
The Court of Appeal held that the publication was not covered by qualified privilege. In the House of Lords, the defendants argued that the common law should recognize a generic qualified privilege covering the publication of political matters affecting UK citizens, except those proven to have been motivated by malice.
  Held
The House of Lords declined to acknowledge such a class of general qualified privilege for political data per se a privilege would fail to provide adequate protection for reputation. it absolutely was not inappropriate to differentiate political data from different matters of great public concern. The established common law approach to misstatement of fact remains sound. Below the present common law rules, qualified privilege might apply to political data wherever there had been an obligation to publish the material to the intended recipient and that they had an interest in receiving it. the flexibility of the present common law permits courts to contemplate individual cases and provides acceptable weight to competitive factors together with the importance of freedom of expression by the media as a “watchdog” on matters of public interest. still, where the data is within the political domain, the court ought to be slow to conclude that publication isn’t within the public interest. In Sir Joshua Reynolds v Times Newspapers [2001] a pair of AC 127, a lot of stress was placed on protection of name as a matter of public interest that currently permits the interest in reputation to compete on a wider ground with freedom of expression. Lord Nicholls stated: ‘reputation is an integral and necessary a part of the dignity of the individual. It additionally forms the basis of the many selections in an exceedingly democratic society that’s elementary to its well-being.
Once besmirched by an unfounded allegation in a national newspaper, a reputation can be damaged forever, especially if particularly no chance to vindicate one’s reputation. when this happens, society as well as the individual is that the loser. The protection of reputation is conducive to the general public good. it’s in the public interest that the reputation of public figures shouldn’t be debased incorrectly. in the political field, in order to make a wise choice, the electorate must be able to identify the great as well as the bad. consistently with these issues, human rights conventions acknowledge that freedom of expression isn’t an absolute right. Its exercise is also subject to such restrictions as are prescribed by law and are necessary in an exceedingly democratic society for the protection of the reputations of others.’ Therefore, it may be aforementioned that, one has the liberty to talk and to speak their views however, that also comes with the limitation, and people limitations are set for the general public interest. Even if the statement is denigrator regarding the actual person however, if it’s in favour of public interest it won’t be coated below defamation. There are more Defences of defamation with really offer one to perform their right to talk truth against others and on the opposite had the necessities of defamation offer one the proper to safeguard their name.
Therefore, it can be easily said that, “RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND EXPRESSION IS THE RIGHT OF ONE’S AND AS WELL AS THE DUTY TO OTHER”.
CONDITIONS AND GROUNDS, WHERE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE PARTIES IS THE BARRIER FOR DEFAMATION
COMMUNICATION BETWEEN HUSBAND AND WIFE
In the eye of law, husband and wife are one person and the communication of a defamatory matter from the husband to the wife or vice versa is no publication. In TJ. Ponnen v. M.C. Verghese, the question which had arisen was whether a letter from the husband to the wife containing defamatory matter concerning the father-in-law (wife’s father) could be proved in an action by the father-in-law against the son-in-law. In that case, one T.J. Ponnen wrote no. of letters to his wife, rathi, containing some defamatory imputations concerning Rathi’s father, M.C. Verghese, Rathi passed on those letters to her father. The father-in-law launched a prosecution against his son-in-law complaining about the defamatory matter contained in those letters. Ponnen contended that the letters addressed by him to his wife are not, except with his consent, admissible in evidence by virtue of section 122, Indian Evidence Act, and since the wife is not permitted to disclose those letters, no offense of defamation could be made out.[6] It may be relevant here to quote section 122, Indian evidence act, which reads as follows:
“No person who is or has been married shall be compelled to disclose any communication made to him during the marriage by any person to whom he is or has been married; nor shall he be permitted to disclose any such communication, unless the person who made it, or his representative in interest, consent, except in suits between married persons, or proceedings in which one married person is prosecuted for any crime committed against the other”.
The Kerala high court held that the letters meant for the wife could not be proved in the court either by her or through any relation of her to the prejudice of her husband because such communication is precluded by law to be disclosed and what cannot be or is not proved in a court has to be assumed as non-existent in the eye of law. Ponnen was, therefore, held not liable.
The Supreme Court reversed the decision of the Kerala high court, it was held –
That even though in view of section 122, Indian Evidence Act, the complainant cannot seek to support his case upon the evidence of the wife of the accused, but if the communication between the husband and wife have fallen to his hands, the same can be proved in any other way. According to Shah, J:
“The complainant claims that he has been defamed by the writing of the letters. The      letters are in his possession and are available for being tendered in evidence. We see no reason why an inquiry into the complaint should, or the preliminary contentions raised, b prohibited. If the complainant seeks to support his case only upon the evidence of the   wife of the accused, he may be met with the bar of section 122 of the Indian Evidence         Act. Whether he will be able to prove the letters in any other is a matter which must be             left to be determined at the trial and cannot be made the subject-matter of an inquiry at            this stage”.
Communication of a matter defamatory of one spouse to the other is sufficient publication. In Theaker v. Richardson, the defendant wrote a letter to the plaintiff making false allegations of her being a prostitute and a brothel-keeper. The letter was sent under the circumstances that the plaintiff’s husband in all probability would have read the same. The plaintiff’s husband opened and read it. The defendant was held liable.
  CONCLUSION
From the above mentioned three objectives, namely:
To examine the essentials constituents and Defences of defamation.
To examine, Right to freedom of speech as one’s right and duty towards others.
To examine the different conditions and grounds, where the relationship between parties becomes the barrier of defamation.
Conclusion what can be made, freedom of speech comes with the limitation and while proving the right to one; it also creates in them the duty towards others; duty to work in accordance with the public interest. Though defamation gives one’s the right to protect their good name, but at the same time it allows the others also to portray the truth in front of the public.
“Liberty is not a personal affair but a social contract”
Therefore, while highlighting point of research paper will ultimately revolve around public interest. Even essentials, Defences, and Exceptions of defamation revolves around same objective.

Why Weight Stigma Deserves Your Attention – Dietetically Speaking
This visitor publish was written by Amy Powderham, who's in her fourth yr of finding out Nutrition & Dietetics at King’s College London.
Tired of seemingly countless misinformation and fad-filled commentary regarding vitamin, Amy returned to school to study the details from the fiction. Hoping to now assist others to do the identical, her focus is on addressing the risks of weight loss program tradition and selling health-focussed quite than weight-focused behaviour change relating to vitamin.
A private notice relating to this text. I'm an able-bodied, straight-size* feminine with skinny privilege**. I cannot profess to totally perceive what it means to be an individual in a bigger physique as a result of I've by no means skilled it. This article is written for many who (like me, till not too long ago) aren't conscious of our personal weight stigma and the harm it's doing. Whilst these in bigger our bodies aren't proof against demonstrating weight stigma, a lot of the harm is completed by these in our bodies akin to mine.
*Straight-size = a substitute for ‘normal’ ‘average’ or ‘healthy’, as a result of these recommend that being plus dimension is the irregular or unhealthy
**Thin privilege = I'm considered as skinny and, subsequently, my dimension doesn't dictate my day-to-day experiences. For instance, I search medical recommendation and my weight isn’t mentioned irrelevant of why I booked the appointment, my dimension isn't the primary attribute used when somebody describes me and I can fairly simply discover garments my dimension.
Let’s begin as we imply to go on. The phrases ‘overweight’ and ‘obese’ may be stigmatising in themselves so these have been used right here solely to precisely replicate analysis. Owing to debate on essentially the most acceptable language relating to weight (I like to recommend this text for these ), impartial phrases akin to ‘weight’ and ‘BMI’ have predominantly been used elsewhere. However, it's acknowledged that fats activists are reclaiming ‘fat’ and selling its use as a impartial descriptor. It is used on this vein in direction of the top of this text.
What is Weight Stigma?
Weight stigma is outlined because the social rejection and devaluation that accrues to those that don't adjust to prevailing social norms of ample physique weight and form’(1).
In brief, it's unfavorable attitudes in direction of these of a better weight.
As with any stigma, it might result in prejudice and, in flip, discrimination (2). Not solely are the numbers experiencing weight discrimination growing however it's the third commonest type of discrimination within the UK, behind age and intercourse however forward of race (three – four). This is especially pertinent after we recognise that, of those, solely age, intercourse and racial discrimination are legislated towards within the UK (5).
Experiences of weight discrimination improve with weight and if feminine, however lower with age (four).
However, though research have predominantly targeted on ladies, there is no such thing as a doubt males are additionally topic to stigma (6). Additionally, it has been proven that males categorical extra stigmatising attitudes, as do those that train extra ceaselessly and have a decrease Body Mass Index (BMI) (7).
N.B. Within analysis, weight and its relation to well being is commonly measured utilizing the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Body Mass Index (BMI). This makes use of weight and peak to classify the inhabitants as:
Underweight (
Healthy (18.5-24.9kg/m2)
Overweight (25-29.9kg/m2)
Obese (>30kg/m2)
This measure is criticised for being a crude means to evaluate well being (eight). However, it's used right here to precisely report analysis.
The results of weight stigma have been evidenced throughout schooling, employment and healthcare settings, with this latter piece maybe essentially the most regarding (9).
Despite being accountable for our well being, proof of stigmatising attitudes in healthcare practitioners is huge.
This has even been proven to be at related ranges to that of the overall inhabitants, in addition to amongst these specialising in weight problems care (10 – 13).
What’s the Problem with Weight Stigma?
Some would possibly argue that weight stigma is helpful, on the premise that it ensures being of a better weight isn’t the social norm and subsequently motivates these of a better weight to handle their well being (14). But this argument is flawed on quite a few ranges.
1. Don’t Assume Being of a Higher Weight is Always Unhealthy
It is essentially believed that weight is immediately associated to our well being, however analysis on this subject suggests it isn't so easy.
Where analysis does recommend a relationship between BMI and mortality, it's usually seen that decreased life expectancy happens on the excessive ends of the BMI spectrum (ie. being underweight or a really excessive weight).
The power of the connection in these courses as ‘overweight’ and reasonably ‘obese’ (30-35kg/m2) is weak (15). Additionally, these epidemiological research hardly ever account for elements akin to health, weight loss program high quality, weight biking, drug use and socioeconomic standing, which all have a big impact on our well being. Where they're managed for, the connection between BMI and mortality lessens or disappears fully (16). Furthermore, it has been argued that being obese could in actual fact be useful in some cases (17).
The ‘obesity paradox’ describes the protecting impact of upper BMI that has been documented amongst older adults in addition to these with established illnesses, akin to heart problems and kind 2 diabetes (18 – 20).
Furthermore, there are a proportion of individuals with weight problems who're metabolically wholesome, for whom weight reduction recommendation could each be misguided and detrimental (21 – 22).
This has led to the controversy that metabolic elements (akin to blood stress) are extra essential than weight relating to illness threat and that the placement of fats, quite than the quantity of it, could also be extra essential relating to figuring out well being (23 – 24).
Supporting this, cardiorespiratory health has been proven to have an effect on mortality independently of weight, which means that obese or overweight people who're match wouldn't essentially profit from weight reduction (25 – 26).
For these with metabolic threat markers (eg. raised LDL, ‘bad’ ldl cholesterol) it could be useful to lose 5-10% of physique weight, which is deemed clinically vital in medical pointers (27).
However, roughly 37-57% who take up business weight reduction programmes,, obtain lower than 5% weight reduction (28).
The pointers themselves acknowledge that three% is extra practical and that this must be maintained long-term, with little proof to help that this may be completed (29). Furthermore, the strategy by which that is completed is essential and it isn't assured to be useful for everybody (30 – 31).
Even on the uncommon event weight reduction is achieved and profitable in bettering metabolic threat markers, this weight reduction received’t essentially imply a discount from the ‘obese’ BMI class to the ‘normal’ weight class (32). In the context of weight stigma, this implies people could have efficiently improved well being outcomes however nonetheless be topic to anti-fat attitudes that assume ill-health.
Additionally, given weight biking and drastic weight reduction can really be detrimental to well being, and well being enhancements have been made with out the necessity for weight reduction in any respect maybe a brand new strategy is required (33 – 34).
The weight-inclusive strategy to well being recognises that a concentrate on weight isn't efficient and as a substitute focuses on well being behaviours within the pursuit of well-being (35).
Non-diet approaches to well being, akin to Health at Every dimension (HAES) and Intuitive consuming, promote self-acceptance and problem the societal norm of focusing on weight reduction as the primary port of name within the pursuit of wellbeing.
Studies have proven that weight loss program can efficiently scale back hypertension unbiased of weight reduction and that train can positively have an effect on lipoproteins, a marker for cardiovascular well being, with out weight reduction (36 – 37). Weight loss isn't the one path to well-being, and the present tendency to veer in direction of this weight-normative strategy isn't profitable, not all the time acceptable and typically damaging.

2. Weight Stigma is Bad for Our Health
The unfavorable well being results of stigma have been proven to be extra damaging than obese or weight problems itself (38).
Given weight stigma is so pervasive, it has been purported to be a mechanism by which obese and weight problems is linked to poor well being (39).
Exposure to weight stigma has been linked to melancholy and nervousness, in addition to physiological results akin to weight acquire and elevated chance of weight problems (40 – 42). Alongside this, better ranges of HbA1c, a marker for blood sugar ranges, have been noticed in these experiencing frequent stigma in addition to the stress hormone, cortisol (43 – 44).
In phrases of behaviours, those that expertise stigma have been proven to keep away from healthcare, have much less motivation to interact in health-promoting behaviours and elevated incidence of disordered consuming behaviours (45 – 47). Ultimately highlighting that weight stigma exacerbates weight problems and isn't an efficient means to advertise behaviour change. What’s extra, these unfavorable well being results exist even after weight reduction (48 – 49).
Finally, weight stigma doesn’t solely have an effect on these of a better weight. Weight bias internalisation (WBI) describes the internalisation of skilled stigma, and is characterised by acceptance and self-projection of societal attitudes in direction of being fats (50). WBI has been proven to be at related ranges in those that are obese and non-overweight (
Thus, the damaging results of weight stigma can have an effect on any of us so long as we're uncovered to the stigmatising stereotypes and attitudes that pervade our society.
three. Weight is Not Simply a Result of Individual Behaviour
Weight stigma may be measured by the extent to which people agree with unfavorable stereotypes related to being fats (53).
Stereotypes which might be generally reported within the literature embrace laziness, lack of willpower and non-compliance (13, 54). These all denote private accountability as a trigger for weight problems, which is consistent with attribution concept; that the extent to which weight problems is perceived as controllable determines the extent to which stigma is expressed (55).
Ultimately, the extra folks blame a person for his or her weight, the better their stigma. However, a couple of hundred elements are at play relating to weight (eight).
Our weight is a results of genetics, physiology, environmental and social elements. These elements interaction with out our management, with the last word results of regulating our physique weight (56). Other issues akin to intestine microbiota, drugs, sleep and weight-reduction plan historical past all affect our physique weight, which means the extent to which we're accountable for our weight is way lower than we wish to assume (16).
Where Do We Go From Here?
Weight stigma is prevalent, widespread and very detrimental to well being. We must problem these norms in addition to ourselves. The three key factors highlighted above, and related analysis, will hopefully assist to do that.
Beginning by questioning our personal acutely aware or unconscious biases relating to these of a better weight.
In doing so, we will additionally begin to recognise and problem the place these biases come into our day-to-day conversations, interactions and observations.
The method we behave and the opinions we maintain have an effect on others. Social consensus concept is one which prevails within the dialog relating to weight stigma, which is the concept we're witness to the stereotypes held by these round us and settle for them as our personal (57).
This means each elevating the subject with direct household and mates in addition to broader causes are useful.
Examples of elevating the problem of weight stigma at a better stage embrace: lobbying the media to handle their portrayals of fats folks and supporting challenges to damaging public well being campaigns, such because the current Cancer Research UK marketing campaign the place the well being influence of weight problems was immediately in comparison with smoking on billboards (58).
To begin although, maybe first look to the various superb folks working to alter the dialog. Both for extra lived experiences of being fats, in addition to these working to alter the norm and maintain society accountable for the harm we're doing.
What is most essential is that we're open to criticism and prepared to recognise stigma and internalisation in ourselves. Only with this could we hope to handle the extent to which stigma is rooted in our tradition.

Whilst these in bigger our bodies aren’t proof against demonstrating weight stigma, a lot of the harm is completed by these in our bodies akin to mine.
*Straight-size = a substitute for ‘normal’ ‘average’ or ‘healthy’, as a result of these recommend that being plus dimension is the irregular or unhealthy
**Thin privilege = I’m considered as skinny and, subsequently, my dimension doesn’t dictate my day-to-day experiences. For instance, I search medical recommendation and my weight isn’t mentioned irrelevant of why I booked the appointment, my dimension isn’t the primary attribute used when somebody describes me and I can fairly simply discover garments my dimension.
However, it’s acknowledged that fats activists are reclaiming ‘fat’ and selling its use as a impartial descriptor. It is used on this vein in direction of the top of this text.
What is Weight Stigma?
Weight stigma is outlined because the social rejection and devaluation that accrues to those that don’t adjust to prevailing social norms of ample physique weight and form’(1).
In brief, it’s unfavorable attitudes in direction of these of a better weight.
As with any stigma, it might result in prejudice and, in flip, discrimination (2). Not solely are the numbers experiencing weight discrimination growing however it’s the third commonest type of discrimination within the UK, behind age and intercourse however forward of race (three – four).
However, it’s used right here to precisely report analysis.
It is essentially believed that weight is immediately associated to our well being, however analysis on this subject suggests it isn’t so easy.
Where analysis does recommend a relationship between BMI and mortality, it’s usually seen that decreased life expectancy happens on the excessive ends of the BMI spectrum (ie. being underweight or a really excessive weight).
Where they’re managed for, the connection between BMI and mortality lessens or disappears fully (16).
Furthermore, there are a proportion of individuals with weight problems who’re metabolically wholesome, for whom weight reduction recommendation could each be misguided and detrimental (21 – 22).
This has led to the controversy that metabolic elements (akin to blood stress) are extra essential than weight relating to illness threat and that the placement of fats, quite than the quantity of it, could also be extra essential relating to figuring out well being (23 – 24).
Supporting this, cardiorespiratory health has been proven to have an effect on mortality independently of weight, which means that obese or overweight people who’re match wouldn’t essentially profit from weight reduction (25 – 26).
Furthermore, the strategy by which that is completed is essential and it isn’t assured to be useful for everybody (30 – 31).
The weight-inclusive strategy to well being recognises that a concentrate on weight isn’t efficient and as a substitute focuses on well being behaviours within the pursuit of well-being (35).
Weight loss isn’t the one path to well-being, and the present tendency to veer in direction of this weight-normative strategy isn’t profitable, not all the time acceptable and typically damaging.

Ultimately highlighting that weight stigma exacerbates weight problems and isn’t an efficient means to advertise behaviour change.
WBI has been proven to be at related ranges in those that are obese and non-overweight (
Thus, the damaging results of weight stigma can have an effect on any of us so long as we’re uncovered to the stigmatising stereotypes and attitudes that pervade our society.
Other issues akin to intestine microbiota, drugs, sleep and weight-reduction plan historical past all affect our physique weight, which means the extent to which we’re accountable for our weight is way lower than we wish to assume (16).
Social consensus concept is one which prevails within the dialog relating to weight stigma, which is the concept we’re witness to the stereotypes held by these round us and settle for them as our personal (57).
Both for extra lived experiences of being fats, in addition to these working to alter the norm and maintain society accountable for the harm we’re doing.
What is most essential is that we’re open to criticism and prepared to recognise stigma and internalisation in ourselves. Only with this could we hope to handle the extent to which stigma is rooted in our tradition.
