Masie: Welcome to the Village Inn.
Sophie: Thank you. I have a reservation under Sophie Brown.
Maisie: Sophie Brown, the author?
Sophie: Not sure I should admit it, but, uh, yes.
[chuckles]
Maisie: I've read all your books.
[chuckles]
Maisie: I just finished the last one.
Sophie: Wonderful.
Maisie: May I ask you a question, then?
Sophie: Sure.
Maisie: Why'd you leave it so long to kill off Winston?
Sophie: What?
Maisie: I was hoping you'd do it in volume one. I never liked that sod. Too bloody perfect.
Sophie: [chuckles] It's... You know what? I'm not so sure I did either.
Maisie: [laughs] Bugger.
Sophie: [chuckles] I killed him off.
Maisie: Good for you, Sophie Brown.
[laughs]
Sophie: Sod. Got any other names for him?

Sister Beatrice (Kristina Tonteri-Young) Warrior Nun season 1 (2020)
[Warrior Nun Melanie] was gay.— My whole life, people have tried to make me into something I’m not. To make me normal, or at least acceptable. I became skilled in so many things so that I’d still have value despite my flaws, or what I’d been taught was a flaw. Of course I tried to fit in. But when you’re punished just for being different, you begin to hate what you are, and what you love. What should make you happy only brings you pain. Pain is what made me a sister warrior.
Ava Silva: Don’t hate what you are. Because what you are is beautiful. I’m sorry for your pain.
Sister Beatrice: Don’t be. Because now we get to tap into yours. [1x8]

senior year , vidal was accepted to the savannah college of art and design ( scad ) , following a LONG stretch of career uncertainty. it was her starring role in her high school’s production of little shop of horrors which pushed her to follow in her parents’ footsteps.
vidal notes that , prior to scad , she’d remained relatively far away from the spotlight which shone on her parents , unsure that a career in the arts or a life of fame were really for her. “ compared to several of my cast mates , i feel like i grew up as a sheltered loner ! ” she jokes. but , she doesn’t strike me as aloof or untouchable at all. she is as much of an OPEN BOOK as one can be in an interview with a journalist. she never second-guesses or backtracks her answers. she never minimizes her success in the humble-brag way most of us have come to hate.

The Watchmen
“The ‘content’ of any medium is always another medium.”
 - Marshall McLuhan
The Watchmen is a comic book published by the DC comics in 1986. The comic book revolves around the lives of a team of superheroes in the year 1985 where the cold war between USA and Russia escalades. There were multiple movie adaptation attempts but finally a proper movie adaptation was made by a 2009 Zack Snyder movie. Although the movie received generally good reviews there were many fans who were upset since the movie deviated from the comic book by an order of magnitude. With many plot holes and cutted-out story lines from the comic book as well as a different ending, the movie adaptation was a movie inspired by the comic book in my opinion. The characters held different motives and different personalities, most notably the superhero Nite Owl was portrayed as a powerful and a bold vigilante where as in the originals he was much more timid and even sometimes cowardly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The biggest change in the adaptation that was not a single change per say was the sheer amount of action scenes. The prison escape scene for example in the comic books consists of a single frame where Rorschach, Silk Spectre and Nite Owl casually chat as they walk down a hall became a 10 minute long action scene in the movie. This along with many other instances of exaggerated action scenes are, granted more appropriate for a movie, dehumanizes the characters and make them super-powered superheroes when what makes the watchmen beautiful was the fact that these heroes were the common folk (Apart from Dr. Manhattan who gets his powers from a work accident) who decided to put on a cap and a cloak to protect and serve the society.
Tumblr media
Watchmen has recently returned to the screens with another adaptation, this time a HBO series where the plot is entirely different with some existing characters from the comic book and the movie. Since only the first season of the show aired so far it is hard to predict the entire accuracy of the adaptation it appears to be going in a direction which we can only describe as: loose.
Tumblr media
All in all we must keep in mind that what works best for a movie may not directly correlate to a TV series or a book or a videogame. Each medium puts its own spin on the content to make it a better fit. Reminding me of the quote:
“The ‘content’ of any medium is always another medium.”
 - Marshall McLuhan

On Ghosts By Elizabeth Robinson (Solid Objects)
"Elizabeth Robinson's ON GHOSTS returns us to the haunted aura around words. Here, a crossing of genres—poetry, prose meditation, personal testimony—shows that language itself amounts to a gathering of ghosts. Robinson's oblique lyricism beckons us toward a twilight zone where we become 'witness to the unverifiable.' This is writing as the highest form of bewitching."-Andrew Joron

lo que les dijo el licantropo / what the werewolf told them By Chely Lima (The Operating System)
"Be very afraid of the full moon. There are several transformations in lo que les dijo el licántropo/what the werewolf told them by Cuban poet Chely Lima, and all of them come with teeth, blood, and a sort of vicious sadness lying just below the surface. In the title poem of the collection, Lima’s speaker (the werewolf) speeds down the highway with their own body in the trunk, “la negación / de la negación” (“the negation / of the negation”) (16/17), muffling their own screams. " -Gabriel Ojeda-Sague

The Tales of Horror: [A Flip-Book] By Laura Mullen (Kelsey Street Press)
"Mysterious fluids, blood curdelling screams, inappropriately all-caps sentences--they're all here, and wonderfully immediate, making an exaggerated, rollicking introduction to many of the pre-occupations, rhetorics and methods of experimental poetry. "  -Publishers Weekly

Real: The Letters of Mina Harker and Sam D’Allesandro By Dodie Bellamy and Sam D’Allesandro (Talisman House, Publishers)
“Real contains letters between Dodie Bellamy (Mina Harker) and Sam D'Allesandro; the transcription of a story that was taped by D'Allesandro before he died in 1988; and a letter by Bellamy that concerns D'Allesandro's death.”

Murder By Danielle Collobert, trans. Nathanael (Litmus Press)
"Uncompromising in its exposure of the calculated cruelty of the quotidian, MURDER'S accusations have photographic precision, inculpating instants of habitual violence."
Tumblr media
The Necro-Luminescence of Pink Mist By Ed Steck (Skeleton Man)
"With language by turns horrific, violent, and austerely meditative, THE NECRO-LUMINESCENCE OF PINK MIST is the undead exploitation film Ozu never made, and that the world is finally ready for."
Tumblr media
Pop Corpse By Lara Glenum (Action Books)
"A radiant brew of emoticon opera, fairytale fan-fiction, and chat-room flame war, POP CORPSE! follows a heroine mermaid on her devoutly disarming search for "realness." Along the way, Glenum dismantles pieties of both the left and the right, proposing new models of configuring text, voice, body and species-hood for those who swim in the increasingly fetid waters of the 21st century. "
Tumblr media
PUSWHISPERER By Mark Crislip, MD (Bitingduck Press)
"How does a cat parasite in the brain make you a terrible driver? Why do people erroneously think 98.6 is normal body temperature? What do mummified head lice say about human migration to the Americas? All of these questions and more are considered in the PUSWHISPERER, a collection of a year's worth of Medscape blog posts that has been edited and reorganized for a lay audience."
Tumblr media
Third-Millennium Heart By Ursula Andkjaer Olsen, trans. Katrine Ogaard Jensen (Action Books / Broken Dimanche Press)
“Olsen's ambivalence entails an embryonic potential: uncoupled from all normative arrivals, her syntax sprouts with mutant possibility, one nimbly conveyed by translator Jensen's flexible touch. From the darkness of this "comajubilation," in a stutter-step of declarations and retractions, THIRD MILLENNIUM HEART is a work of radical re- conjuration.“

imdb.com/title/tt0210824/combined An indulgent husband takes his wife out because she is in bad humor, and resolves to be very good to her. She suddenly takes a fancy to a beautiful, expensive feather boa, and she takes possession while he pays for it, and when she takes him to a milliner he not only pays, but carries the boxes. At a florist's she adds a potted plant to his burden, and later a globe jar of live little fish. A dog is next, and so she goes on, hanging up her purchases on every available inch of space on her husband's person. When he is almost through he looks like a human van, but his wife fits a lamp shade over his hat, and caps the whole business by seating herself on a donkey to ride home on, while the overloaded husband walks behind. The entire cargo travels well, until, on reaching the house, he trips, and the whole load goes down in fragments.

Mike Hanlon: [openning narration] Memory, it’s a funny thing. People want to believe they are what they choose to remember; the good stuff, the moments, the places - the people we all hold on to. But sometimes .. sometimes, we are what we wish we could forget.
