Random Star Trek Voyager headcanons?
Janeway created a program that could detect if Voyager were overrun with Borg and the ship would destroy itself if they were. Because after freeing Seven from the collective the thought of her crew being assimilated is unbearable and death would be better than that. Only she and the Doctor know about it's existence.
Every 3 months the crew receive a little gift from a anonymous member of the crew. It's Harry. He thinks it will brighten up people day, give them something to look forward too.
Tom spent a month creating a fun hologram program for toddler Naomi Wildman for her birthday party...she preferred playing in a box
Whenever it's dull on the ship Chakotay ensures Janeway can't get any coffee just to see the chaos unfold.
Tuvok misses his children greatly which is why Kes and then Seven become like his surrogate daughters. He actually teaches Seven stuff he taught his daughter and stuff he'd like to teach her.
B'Elanna has a favourite jefferies tube. She hides her snacks there from Tom.
Neelix on purpose often messes up food dishes to give the crew something to bond. Especially when things are very tense between members of the crew.
Seven can't actually remember what her favourite colour was a child. She said red because she thought it would please Janeway at the time. She eventually learns her favourite colour is blue but never tells anyone.
Naomi learnt a bunch of swear words, in different languages from the computer when she accidentally used one in front of her Mother she blamed Tom for teaching her

Calendar Project Draft (2371, Star Trek Voyager)
A while back I asked folks what their favorite stardate calculators were bc #1, I wanted to see how different they were from each other, and #2 - I wanted to create calendars for each of events in the Voyager series (mostly for me so I can keep track for my fics, but posting in case other people like this too.)
For the first draft, I’ve made a calendar for events in 2371, based on my preferred stardate converter site (which makes the assumption that each SD xx000 = a January 1 and each xx999 = a December 31). Use this converter if: 1, you prefer the assumption that an earth-based organization would use an earth-centric date system, 2. You like the idea that Cmdr. Chakotay is a Leo or 3. You enjoy headcanoning that Endgame happens right before Christmas. Don’t use this converter if you care about a fixed annual Earth date for First Contact Day.
I’m going to make one of these for each year in the series using the hillschmidt SD converter, but I’ve got the dates for and would make calendars for the other 2 converters I looked at (R56 and TrekGuide) if there’s interest. Just let me know.
Click below the cut for 2371 calendar, legend, and episode dates.
Tumblr media
How to Read.
Pink Borders - Birthdays
Green Days - Definite days that episode takes place (based on logs and definitive context clues such as whether we see multiple alpha shifts or post-shift / nighttime scenes).
Yellow Days - Potential days within episode timeframe (based on vaguer context clues such as "significant detours", estimated warp travel times, and whether it feels like the amount of stuff happening in the episode should take a while.) Gray Days - Alternate Timelines where we have no firm stardate Brown Days - Canon Dates but it's dubious.
What Happens in 2371
April:
The Maquis ship Val Jean is potentially lost in the Delta Quadrant as early as April 9th, accounting for how much time Capt. Janeway would need to collect Tom Paris from New Zealand and embark from DS9. Voyager gets pulled into the Delta Quadrant on April 24th and destroys the array on April 25th.
May:
Kathryn Janeway's 36th Birthday (cuz I had her birth year in 2335 and then the bloomington statue fucked it up... so fuck you statue, I like my 2335 date XD) - May 20th, approaching the first month anniversary being stranded.
June:
Parallax - June 9th-11th
Time and Again - Alternate timeline with no definitive stardate associations. If we accept that episode order determines placement, this could take place anywhere from June 12th to July 13th. For the purposes of this calendar I've assigned the alternate timeline to June 23rd-26th
July & August:
Phage - July 14th-15th
The Cloud July 19th-20th
Eye of the Needle - July 31st to potentially August 4th depending on how long we think it was before they realized the wormhole would take 3 days to degrade.
Chakotay's Birthday - This is estimated based on context clues given in Bliss and will vary depending on your SD calculator of preference. He's probably turning 41 or 42 in 2371.
Ex Post Facto - No definitive dates, but needs to happen between Aug. 5th and Aug. 15th. Lasts at least a few days. I've assigned it Aug. 10th to Aug. 13th
Emanations - Aug 16th-17th
Prime Factors - Aug. 21-25th (depends how long you think they took to travel to and then how long they enjoy Sikaris)
State of Flux - Aug. 29th
September:
Heros and Demons - Sep. 9th-11th
Cathexis - Sep. 25th-26th
October & November:
Faces & Tuvok's ~107th Birthday: Yup, Tuvok’s big day in 2371 overlaps with the first day of Faces based on this SD conversion... so we can assume he definitely delayed any celebrations that year. Faces lasts from Oct 14th- abt. Oct. 16th
Jetrel - The trip to Talaxia is deemed a "sigificant" detour so I've clocked this one in at roughly a week from picking up Jetrel to the end of the episode. Oct. 28th - Nov. 3rd.
Learning Curve - Nov. 5th-10th
Projections - Doc's holodeck log puts this on Nov. 22nd however there's some reason to doubt this - in addition to the log being recorded entirely on a malfunctioning holodeck, Doc. claims to have memories of "the last six months" but by the time of that stardate (on this calculator), he's been activated for nearly 7.
December:
Elogium - Dec. 3rd-4th
The 37s - abt Dec. 20th to 23rd depending on how long you think they toured the 37s’ cities and presuming they did not stay planet side for Christmas

Question: Can Janeway commit war crimes?
Answer: Janeway can commit a little war crimes. Surprisingly, Janeway is much better then other Starfleet Captains when it comes to violating the Prime Directive and justification of her actions in war crimes. Captain Janeway should be fine with a couple war crimes, as a treat.

Petition for a Sisko statue in New Orleans!
“We the people of the City of New Orleans and Star Trek fans from all over the planet Earth, petition the City Council to erect a bust and small display to the literary/media character CAPT Benjamin Lafayette Sisko popularized in the program, “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”.
As a “native son” of the Crescent City, there are examples in both of Riverside, IA (CAPT James T. Kirk) and Bloomington, IN (CAPT Kathryn Janeway) where similar monuments have been constructed. While he is popularly known as “The Emissary to the Prophets” and Hero of the Dominion war. His in relation to his peers (the aforementioned Kirk and Janeway) he is a the first POC Starship Captain (and lead) of a Star Trek franchise, a single father, a musician, culinary aficionado, civil rights activist, explorer and engineer. There are three examples of this. First as assuming the role of Gabriel Bell (a homeless, unemployed worker) in the two part episode “Past Tense” and as 1950’s Science Fiction Writer Benny Russell a POC. All three dealt with issues that we are now faced with. He personifies the best qualities of a New Orleanian and eloquently proves no matter the goals, or the dreams one person can make their dreams possible.
It is those examples that make Sisko an excellent role model for all New Orleanians, as he is of the stuff for future history. He is the perfect role model to replace, more controversial figures of New Orleans past. As a fictional character he can be seen as above reproach.”

What tribe do you think/want Chakotay to be part of?
I find it weird and also kind of insulting that the writers chose not to give Chakotay a tribal affiliation. Giving him a nebulous origin implies that all Native Americans are the same and can be generalized into one type of people. This is extremely false because every tribe has their own distinct culture and even some tribes located next to each other are vastly different. So I wanted to explore what tribe would be most suited for Chakotay given the little scraps we have and hopefully give him some more characterization. My boy deserves better so I’m gonna give it to him!
It’s noted in the Evolution of Voyager (provided by the amazing @70thousandlightyearsfromhome) that the writers did consider assigning him to either the Sioux (Dakota/Lakota) or Hopi tribe. Of these two choices, I think Hopi would make more sense because he mentioned having an ancestor that lived in Arizona, which is where the Hopi reservation is located.
If we stick to this geographical region, there are other tribes to consider such as the Navajo and the Zuni, who also reside around Arizona. Even the Apache could be a possible candidate, though they cover a much larger territory that stretches as far as Oklahoma and Texas.
Of course we could also consider the actor’s heritage as Beltran claims he has Mayan ancestry. The Mayan are actually one of my favorite Native American tribes to study, so I think it would be cool if he was from that tribe. An added bonus is that Mayan astronomy is very unique and a huge part of their culture, and Chakotay was drawn to the stars as a boy so that could be a great connection.
What do you guys think? Would you assign him to any of the tribes I mentioned? Is there another tribe you would choose? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I totally consider you an expert on Capt. Kathryn Janeway
🥰🥰🥰 one my very first crushes that I didn’t recognize as a crush.
Maybe if I ever get a little less in teen wolf hyperfixation mode, I will write something for Voyager. The only Star Trek fic I ever wrote is in a journal when I was 13? 14? Before I even knew what fic was 😅
I was obsessed with the s2 finale and ended up scribbling ideas about what I wanted to happen. 😅😅

Alternate entertainment timelines...
Something that has always fascinated me is when I read about actors who were originally cast in famous roles, but ended up being replaced. One of the best-known and widely scene examples is Eric Stoltz, best known today for the film Mask, who filmed a portion of the original Back to the Future as Marty McFly before being replaced by Michael J. Fox. Footage of Stoltz as Marty is widely available, having been included on DVD releases of the BTTF trilogy, so we can compare.
One of the most intriguing examples is Elizabeth Shepherd, whose film roles include Kidnapping of the President and Damien: Omen II, as well as the TV series Duchess of Duke Street, was the original actress cast as Emma Peel in The Avengers and she even filmed a complete episode before the powers that be realized she was wrong for the part (possibly because she too closely physically resembled her predecessor, Honor Blackman) and replaced her with Diana Rigg, completely refilming the episode called Town of No Return. To this day only a handful of photos exist of Elizabeth as Mrs. Peel (and I’ve yet to see one of her version of Emma with Patrick Macnee) - the episode itself is either lost or locked away. Here’s a publicity photo of Shepherd as Emma Peel taken during filming of her only episode.
Tumblr media
There’s also the case of Tamzin Merchant, who played Daenerys Targaryen in the never-shown pilot episode of Game of Thrones. She was replaced by Emilia Clarke when the pilot basically got a do-over. Apparently it was so poor (not Tamzin’s performance necessarily, the whole project) we may never see the original pilot. Another case of a lead actor getting replaced was Sherilynn Fenn of Twin Peaks fame who became the first live-action actress to play Harley Quinn in the unaired pilot episode of the short-lived (and missed) Birds of Prey series back in the early 2000s. She was replaced in the series by Mia Sara of Ferris Bueller fame. That pilot was circulated unofficially online and at conventions so we could compare the two. (As an aside, I am surprised the original series didn’t get reissued when the Birds of Prey movie came out last year, especially since its versions of the Huntress and Oracle/Batgirl also appeared in the Crisis on Infinite Earths miniseries on CW.)
And when Star Trek Voyager began filming, Oscar-winning French-Canadian actress Geneviève Bujold was cast as Capt. Nicole Janeway, and filmed for a day and a half before it was decided she wasn’t working out and she was replaced by Kate Mulgrew as Kathryn Janeway, so Trek lost out on having its second French-Canadian captain (Shatner is from Montreal), and Jean-Luc Picard would no longer have been the only French captain in (televised) Starfleet. Bujold’s handful of complete scenes have been released on DVD and can be found on Youtube, but I’ll let you go hunting for them.
Probably the most famous example of a recast was the case of Jeffrey Hunter, who won the lead in the original Star Trek in 1964. He filmed the first pilot, The Cage, as Christopher Pike, but by the time NBC requested a second pilot, Hunter changed his mind and decided he didn’t want to do a series, opening the door for Bill Shatner to become James T. Kirk. This decision had both a wide-ranging creative and personally tragic consequence: because Gene Roddenberry needed to save money on production of TOS’ first season, he repurposed The Cage’s footage into a two-part episode called The Menagerie, which used it as a flashback, establishing that it took place about a decade before the current series. And that established the Star Trek universe timeline that continues to inform the franchise today. The tragic part is, because he didn’t take the series, Hunter went on to make movies (including The Green Berets where he acted with George Takei who took a leave from TOS to appear), and an on-set accident in late 1968 while filming in Europe set in motion a brain injury that may have contributed to his death after a fall in the spring of 1969. It’s a shame he never got to see how Star Trek grew - I could only imagine a Kirk-Pike team-up with Shatner and Hunter would have been perfect for the movies.
Playing “what if” is fascinating. I can only imagine how Audrey Hepburn would have performed as Nefertiri in Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments, or how Bela Lugosi would have handled the originally planned concept for Frankenstein’s Monster in the first Universal Frankenstein film in 1931 for which he was cast. He played the monster in a later film, but it was based on Boris Karloff’s version, not the one that had been planned originally.
Doctor Who has had it’s share of “what ifs”. Imagine BRIAN BLESSED as the Fourth Doctor (or possibly the Third). Richard Griffiths (Uncle Dursley in the Harry Potter films) was also up to play Four. Both Peter Capaldi and Christopher Eccleston were apparently on a list of potential Eighth Doctor actors - and the favourite for a while wasn’t actually Paul McGann, but his brother! And of course there’s the fact that if the stars had aligned differently, Jenna Coleman’s contribution to Who would have started and ended with her playing Mels, the incarnation of Melody Pond prior to River Song, in Let’s Kill Hitler. Someone else would have likely ended up playing Clara.
Imagine how different our pop culture would be had the original actors been cast in all these shows!
