Compartment No.6

Juho Kuosmanen's movie just won the Cannes 2021 Grand Prix award.

'Compartment No. 6' is the story of a young Finnish woman who escapes an enigmatic love affair in Moscow by boarding a train to the Arctic port of Murmansk. Forced to share the long ride and a tiny sleeping car with a Russian miner, the unexpected encounter leads the occupants of compartment no. 6 to face the truth about their own yearning for human connection.

Aki Kaurismäki won The Grand Prix award with his Man Without a Past in 2002.

today started with an excellent news. since corona started my parents have been stuck at home more and they have been watching too much TV. so I promised my dad that if he joins German language course, and pass exams I will pay all the course and exam fees etc. first he started studying with Duolingo. he passed A1 exam without course. then A2 course started, everything is remote, I think it was 3 months, and the course was over in May. Then he had A2 exam in Goethe instute, and the results announced today. HE PASSED A2 LEVEL 🥳🥳. The certificate is valid fo 3 years. Currently he is in B1 course course and doing well. In autumn he will have B1 exam. I am so happy that I managed to motivate him and he got the results of his work so quickly.

So guys believe in yourself and try! I asked him to study German because many believes it is a difficult language. I thought it would take lots of time to learn but actually he only gave up on watching TV frequently.

And I am still trying to pass Finnish A2 .....

My intensive Finnish course started this week. And it has been going well so far. Hopefully I won't need 400 years 😁

Another great movie by Thomas Vinterberg. Well if you have already watched any Vinterberg movies, you just sit and wait curiously for the story. It never disappoints you!

I have to say that I was impressed already with the first moment of the movie. It starts with a quote from Danish philosopher Søren Aabye Kierkegaard who is one of my favorite writer.

- What is youth? A dream.

- What is love? The content of the dream.

I guess after seeing many times Mads Mikkelsen in Vinterberg movies, you already get used to that Danish sadness on his face! As a non-drinker, this movie was pretty interesting to me since drinking is the main subject in this movie.

If you have drinking problem, I would suggest to pass this movie! Since the perception is very personal, it might effect you differently.

* Best Actor in a Leading Role for Mikkelsen.

I am surprised that no one has recommended this ready-made pizza before. The interesting part is not that is already better than all ready-made pizzas but it is even better than some restaurant pizzas! Since I moved to Helsinki, I have been trying pizzas, going new restaurants, trying ready-made ones etc just to discover more. Damn, how I missed this one and never tried it all..

ps: I only eat vegetarian pizzas.

so I am gonna try one more time! currently I am going through my course notes etc, then gonna take some language level tests and join a new course according to those results. my wild guess is that I am somewhere close to A2. 😅

Should I give up learning finnish and start for swedish? I have been trying to learn it but I think I am very slow. However my friends who started studying swedish made so much progress. Plus people say it will be much easier for me because I already talk German, English and know a bit French. What do you think? 🆘

Nowadays the temperature is between -10 and -20 at night in Helsinki. However those rabbits still hang out around. If you see a rabbit running around at cold freezing midnight, there is only one movie that would make sense: Donnie Darko!

and here is my wild assumption, i think if there are many snowmen in a neighbourhood, most likely happy people live there.

I got this for kitchen. Previously I was not using my kitchen often. Since corona started I have been cooking, trying things and spending more time in kitchen. I wanted to have sth funny but same time motivating haha. And yes motivation is very subjective!
