Seeking free advice:
I hit someone’s car in a parking lot recently. A small ding. I exchanged info with them.
They got a quote for repairs—$970. My insurance deductible is $1000.
In NY, your car insurance rate won’t go up for an incident involving solely property damage under $2,000. However, since it is the same dollar amount either way, If I choose to pay them cash directly, what is to keep them from pocketing it and also filing an insurance claim?
What do I should?
Pocketing the money and filing a claim anyway— that rarely happens. What does happen often is that someone will inflate the cost of the repair. Make sure you see an actually written estimate and then check it — if you don’t have a mechanic friend or a garage that knows you Google it.

Need To Buy Car Insurance in Ozone Park and Deer Park, NY
Running a small business is undoubtedly pleasing, but the business owner must focus on the associated risks and ensure profitability. Inadvertently injuring a third party or damaging its property can result in liability claims. Trying to pay compensation from the pocket can be cripplingly expensive. Instead, it is essential to consider buying general liability insurance in Queens and Brooklyn, NY, by contacting insurance agencies or individual agents.
It is interesting to note that almost all insurance providers sell this type of liability insurance plan. The best insurance agencies will provide quotes giving details of the coverage and premium rates. It is advisable to request quotes from at least three agencies to make the selection process easier. The business owner may decide to buy the insurance coverage online as well. This is possible for businesses that earn less than $1 million in revenue.
It is astounding that some agencies provide coverage at a low rate of $11. Product liability may be included as required.
Being excited about paying a low rate for a premium is not the only criterion to consider. Instead, one must check the extent of coverage that is likely to include the following:-
· Bodily Injury- The insurance company will pay for medical expenses when a business entity is found guilty of causing the injury. Slips and falls, as well as falling objects, can result in liability for the business owner.
· Property Damage- An employee responsible for damaging the customers' or visitors' property is covered by liability insurance. The agency will pay for repair costs or the damaged item/structure replacement. · Personal Injury- The insurance coverage will stretch to compensation for personal injury that is not physical. The business owner can thus be absolved of libel and/or slander against a third party.
· Product liability coverage- A product the business sells may hurt the consumers/customers. The insurance coverage will kick in here, with the insurance carrier making good the loss
· Product recall- There are instances of products being recalled due to inferior quality. However, such a recall will result in heavy losses for the business owner. Thankfully, general liability insurance will cover the losses and mitigate the financial impact. This coverage is an add-on to the liability insurance and is not always included in the policy.
· Contractual liability coverage- A contractor's life is challenging as there are multiple things to consider simultaneously. One can always add this coverage to the existing insurance policy and settle all contractor-related liability claims.
The state does not mandate general liability insurance. Being covered can help a small business owner remain protected from liability claims and legal costs. A contractor is well advised to buy this type of coverage. The landlord may also make it a prerequisite for running the business from a rented site.
A self-driven vehicle is a necessity for all Americans today. Buying the right car insurance in Ozone Park and Deer Park, NY, can enable one to drive as required without considering financial risks in the aftermath of an accident or vehicle damage.

What to Consider Before Choosing Car Insurance?
When searching for car insurance, it is important to have a clear understanding of your priorities. It is recommended to find an insurer that offers comprehensive coverage at an affordable price, as well as a simple and efficient claims process. By understanding the importance of car insurance and the various types of coverage available, you can make an informed decision that not only fulfills legal obligations but also provides comprehensive protection for your valuable asset.
Tumblr media
So you have made the decision to purchase your dream car and are currently navigating through the financing process, which undoubtedly brings a sense of excitement. However, it is crucial to pause for a moment and consider an important aspect - have you made a decision regarding car insurance? Car insurance should not be purchased on a hurry, but rather requires careful consideration and is mandatory for any car, regardless of whether it is new or old.
The question arises - why should you invest in car insurance in Brooklyn in NY? Is it simply because it is a legal requirement? Or do you opt for the minimum coverage in order to pay lower premiums? If your answer to either of these questions is affirmative, it indicates a significant mistake on your part.
While car insurance is indeed mandatory for driving on the road, its primary purpose is to safeguard your car against financial repercussions in the event of an accident, theft, or natural disaster, among other unforeseen circumstances.
There are several types of affordable car insurance in Brooklyn, each serving to protect your assets and well-being. The main categories include:
Liability Insurance: This coverage is responsible for compensating third-party personal injury and death-related claims, as well as any damage caused to another person's property as a result of your automobile accident. Liability coverage is mandatory in almost all states, with only a few exceptions.
Collision Insurance: This coverage ensures that your car can be repaired following an accident. It is a requirement if you have a loan against your vehicle, as in this case, the car does not truly belong to you but rather to the bank, which aims to avoid being burdened with a damaged car.
Know Your Need
Before you begin searching for an insurance plan, it is important to understand your requirements. This includes determining the type of car insurance coverage you need, any additional covers you may want to add, and the premiums involved. However, it is crucial to prioritize coverage over the cost of premiums.
Set Your Priorities Right
It is advisable to have a clear understanding of your priorities before starting your search for car insurance. Ideally, you should look for an insurer that offers comprehensive coverage at an affordable price, along with a simple and efficient claims process.
Check Price
When purchasing motor insurance, it is essential to compare quotes online. By entering your requirements in an online quote request form, you can instantly access car insurance quotes. Comparing these quotes will enable you to find the best price and protection that aligns with your needs.
The Bottom Line
In conclusion, shopping for car insurance in Brooklyn in NY with careful consideration can safeguard your health, assets, and finances. Take the time to determine the type and amount of coverage you require, and ensure that you thoroughly review and understand your policy before signing. With proper planning, you will be satisfied with the outcome should you ever need to make a claim.

DIVERSIFIED METALS - THE GREEK COPPER SCAM
I remember one day, while working at Diversified in Cucamonga, a guy named Richard Horton called me from Boulder, Colorado.  He said he had read DMC’s 10-K, which was impressive in of itself and that due to our size, stature, and knowledge he thought we were the right people to buy 2,000 tons of insulated copper wire that he had in Athens, Greece.
I told Whitey and he advised me to go see it. When I look back at it, I can see that it was a con job from day one. We met at the NY airport and flew to Athens together.  He was a slick older guy in cowboy boots who said he owned many student apartments in Boulder and kept a kennel full of Shiatsu dogs. He told me that he kept the dogs and he personally cleaned out their kennels just to keep his ego in check.
We stayed at a fancy hotel in Athens and were greeted by his partner, who was dressed as an Arab Sheik. I should have guessed they were scoundrels by the grubby looking  entourage. It was amateur night in Dixie, but I was totally taken in. I went out to see the wire which was being burned by a bunch of laborers about 30 miles outside Athens.
As a smart junk dealer there was no way I was going to write a check, so the deal I made was that we would take a 600-ton sample.  I would issue an Irrevocable Letter of Credit for $450,000 and it was cashable 60 days after the final report from the Belgium refinery or 180 days after shipment whichever came first.  That was safe and seemingly foolproof and also very profitable.  We would then buy the balance of the 2,000 tons.
To make it even safer I hired an independent International Surveyor, H. Griffith & Co., to supervise the loading, the weights, and make sure it was copper wire.  When I hired the surveyor, someone I had used before, he reminded me of the saying “beware of Greeks bearing gifts.” I laughed.  HA!  I bought it CIF (cost, insurance, and freight) Belgium port. The parcel was insured for a standard 110% by Lloyds of London.  I paid on assay results from the refinery. I was totally safe.
So, the material was loaded and shipped on or around August 3, 1975.  I still have the framed telegram that we received on August 12, 1975, hanging in my office.  Let me read it to you.
I will skip the LC number and pre-salutation plus some stuff that is not understandable.
SHIPMENT M/V BRILLIANT OF 2.348 DRUMS LOT 106 OF CABLE SCRAP……COPPER CONDUCTOR FREE OF THEIR INSULATING MATERIAL PLASTIC AND METAL NETWORK
GROSS WEIGHT 558.012 METRIC TONS TARE 27.166 – NET WEIGHT 530, 906, METRIC TONS VALUE US DOLLARS 433,060.00. WE ARE INFORMING YOU HEREUNDER OF TELEX RECEIVED 9.8.75 FROM GLORIANA SHIPPING CORP QUOTE PIRAEUS 9TH AUGUST 1975. MV BRILLIANT – REGRET TO INFORM YOU THAT WE JUST RECEIVED INFORMATION FROM AUGUSTA PORT AUTHORITIES THAT VESSEL SANK LAST NIGHT OUTSIDE PORT OF AUGUSTA  WHILE PROCEEDED TO ENTER PORT DUE TO LEAKAGE ALL CREW SAVED BY MAN OF WAR AND DISEMBARKED AT AUGUSTA THIS NOON NO OTHER DETAILS AVAILABLE SO FR REVERTING GLORIANA CORPORATION UNQUOTE – REGARDS BOUROUKIS
OMG! OMG! OMG! The damn thing sank! What do I do?  Rose and Whitey said to relax.  I was living 50 miles east of them in Upland and they said to just come in tomorrow, and we will discuss it.  Don’t worry, we are insured.  So, I went in and saw that we were insured for 110% which is slightly more profit than if it had arrived, or so I thought.  I called Richard Horton and he laughed at me.  “Why are you worried? You are insured.  Besides, you issued an irrevocable LC, and NOBODY can cancel that type of LC.” More laughter.
That night I retreated into my inner sanctum. I had taken two spaces of our three-car garage and turned it into a billiard room, with a redwood refrigerated wine cellar, built in stereo system, and hidden inside storage. I was shooting a game of pool by myself, with the music blaring, when a hot flash surged through my body followed by the pool cue flying out of my hand.  It was then that I realized that this whole thing was a scam!  Richard laughing at me was the tip off.
What we found out really happened was that they made an unscheduled stop and offloaded my wire, plus the wire from 2 other unsuspecting metal companies and then took the old leaky ship out to sea and sunk it. I was paralyzed and then in a panic.  I called Rose and was almost crying.  We were going to lose $450,000.  I would be fired.  When Lloyd’s discovered the offloading, they would never honor the policy. I went to see Rose in a panic the next day.  She had a big smile on her face.  How could she see this as humorous in any way? “Dear, she said, I can get us out of this. The LC calls for plus or minus 5% of the contracted weight and they are under by 8%.”
We hired a Maritime lawyer in San Francisco and sure enough he went before the judge and as a friend of the court, pointed out the discrepancy, and the judge revoked the irrevocable Letter of Credit! The $15,000 for the lawyer was a blessing.
Within 6 months I was named President of Diversified Metals and needed to move back to St. Louis.  Whitey said to me with a smile on his face, "Well, you went from almost being fired to President, ain’t that something!”

Insuring a vehicle in New York can be expensive compared to other states, especially in the New York City metro area. Premiums are affected by state minimum coverage requirements, your driving record, location, and other factors. This guide examines the key considerations around car insurance prices in New York. Car Insurance Prices in New York Introduction to NY Car Insurance Costs On average, New York has some of the highest car insurance rates in the U.S., ranking 5th nationwide. State minimum liability coverage requirements are relatively robust, which impacts base prices. Additionally, the dense population and congestion of NYC pushes rates higher in the metro region. Car insurance expenditures take a larger bite out of New Yorkers' budgets compared to other states. But there are ways to control costs through smart coverage choices, driving safely, and shopping around. State Minimum Liability Coverage New York requires these baseline liability coverages on all registered vehicles: $25,000 bodily injury per person $50,000 bodily injury per accident $10,000 property damage $50,000 uninsured motorist injury Liability coverage protects you if an accident is your fault by covering damage and medical bills for others. New York's minimums are higher than many states. Average Car Insurance Rates in New York Statewide, average annual New York car insurance premiums are: Minimum liability: $325 Full coverage: $1,250 Higher in NYC metro area: +25% Rates can vary significantly based on driving history, vehicle type, age of driver and other factors. New York City area drivers often pay 25% or more compared to upstate regions. Major Insurance Carriers in New York The top auto insurers in New York based on market share include: State Farm Geico Allstate Progressive Liberty Mutual Comparing quotes amongst these major carriers can help find the best value. Regional companies like Central Insurance and NYCM Insurance may offer competitive rates as well. Factors That Affect Insurance Costs Major factors that influence car insurance prices in New York include: Location - Urban vs. rural Driving record - Accidents, violations Age and experience Type of vehicle Desired coverage levels and deductibles Carefully evaluating these rating factors can help New York drivers obtain the lowest premiums. Discounts to Reduce Rates New York auto insurers offer a variety of standard discounts that can help lower premiums: Good driver discount Multi-policy discount Anti-theft devices Vehicle safety features Defensive driver course completion Low annual mileage Good student discount Taking advantage of every available discount can lead to significant savings. Make sure to inquire about discounts upfront when obtaining quotes. When to Shop and Compare Rates The best times to compare multiple car insurance rates in New York include: At policy renewal: Shop rates from competitors After a major life event: Moving, new car, marriage, etc. Following a rate increase: Check if others are lower Every 2-3 years: Market conditions change over time Regularly comparing prices ensures you don't overpay for coverage. Be an informed consumer and put competition to work in your favor. Car Insurance Prices in New York Liability Coverage Explained Liability insurance is required in New York and pays for injury or damage that you cause to others in an accident. There are two components: Bodily injury liability covers medical treatment for people injured or killed. Property damage liability pays to repair or replace property damaged in a covered accident. New York also requires uninsured motorist coverage in case you're hit by a driver with no insurance. Comprehensive and Collision Coverage Comprehensive and collision are optional physical damage coverages: Comprehensive pays for damage from weather, theft, vandalism, fire, and more.
Collision covers your vehicle repairs from accidents with other cars or objects. Keeping a high deductible on these optional coverages can reduce premiums if your vehicle is worth less. Full Coverage vs Liability Only Should you only get minimum liability, or add comprehensive and collision for "full coverage"? Liability only is cheaper but leaves you unprotected if your own car is damaged. Full coverage costs more but may be worth it for newer vehicles with loans/leases. Analyze the value of your car vs potential out-of-pocket costs if damaged before picking minimum liability or full coverage. Add-Ons, Riders, and Endorsements In addition to standard coverages, insurers offer optional extras for additional premium: Roadside assistance for towing and labor Rental reimbursement if your car is in the shop Accident forgiveness to avoid rate hikes Gap insurance pays loan difference if totaled Evaluate whether add-ons fit your budget and needs. How Deductibles Affect Premiums Deductibles represent your out-of-pocket costs before insurance kicks in for a claim. Options are typically $250, $500 or $1000. Choosing a higher deductible lowers your premium, but increases cash outlays when you file a claim. Set deductibles wisely based on savings vs risk tolerance. How Credit History Impacts Premiums Insurers in New York are allowed to use your credit-based insurance score as a rating factor. Policyholders with poor credit often pay higher premiums. But there are exceptions. For example, if you prove identity theft caused credit damage. Maintaining good credit can pay off when insurance shopping. Saving with a Higher Comprehensive Deductible Since most comprehensive claims are under $1000, choosing a $500 or $1000 deductible can make sense to reduce premiums. You'd pay out-of-pocket for small comprehensive incidents like glass chips or side mirror damage anyway. But still have coverage for major issues. Car Insurance Prices in New York NYC Auto Insurance Requirements Drivers in the NYC metro area face some unique insurance rules: Liability limits are often higher, like 100/300/50. "Additional PIP" no-fault injury coverage may be required. Commuters may need NYC premiums even if garaged outside. Insurers charge more due to higher accident rates and costs. Upstate NY Car Insurance Rules Outside the NYC region, insurance regulations in upstate New York include: Standard minimum liability limits apply. No mandatory additional PIP medical coverage. Proof of insurance required at traffic stops. Insurers allowed to use credit scores in underwriting. Premiums are generally lower than NYC suburbs but still among the country's highest. Penalties for Lapse in Insurance Maintaining continuous auto insurance is required in New York. If you lapse, consequences may include: Fines up to $1500 from the DMV. Mandated SR-22 high-risk insurance. License/registration suspension until new policy secured. Civil liability for any damages while uninsured. Avoid coverage gaps to steer clear of fines, suspensions, and complications. SR-22 High Risk Insurance Drivers deemed high risk may be required to carry SR-22 insurance in New York, which proves coverage to the DMV. SR-22 situations include DUI offenses, multiple accidents, license reinstatement after suspension, or lack of previous insurance. Rates are much higher for SR-22 policies compared to standard insurance. Insurance for Young Drivers Due to inexperience, teens and young drivers under 25 pay the highest auto insurance rates in New York. Surcharges for young drivers can include: Over 100% for high-risk teens getting their own policy. 25-75% for teens on a parent's policy. Up to 25% for drivers aged 16-24. Maintaining a clean record helps minimize youthful driver premiums. Strategies for Lower Insurance Costs Ways New York drivers can aim for lower car insurance premiums include:
Compare quotes frequently and switch if better deals found. Ask about bundling home and auto with same insurer. Take defensive driver courses approved by DMV for a discount. Drop collision/comprehensive on older cars worth less than 10 year's premiums. Opt for higher deductibles to reduce rates. Avoid insurance lapses and maintain continuous steady coverage. Auto Insurance Price Negotiation Tips When shopping rates, don't be afraid to negotiate with insurers to bargain for the best deal. Useful tips: Get quotes from multiple insurers to enhance leverage. Ask about discounts or policy tweaks to lower rate. Politely threaten to switch to force insurers to match or beat competing offers. Time negotiations around big life events when you have maximum bargaining power. The bottom line is that being a savvy shopper can help you secure lower car insurance costs in New York's expensive market. Weigh all options carefully. FAQs How much is car insurance for a new driver in NY? For new teen drivers in New York, annual premiums often start around $5,000 - $8,000 and remain high until the mid-20s when experience discounts kick in. Is car insurance cheaper in upstate NY? Yes, on average auto insurance premiums in upstate NY are about 25% lower than the New York City metropolitan area thanks to lower accident rates and claims costs. How can I lower my car insurance in NY? To reduce NY car insurance costs, raise deductibles, improve credit score, take defensive driving courses, bundle policies, compare quotes often, maintain continuous coverage, and negotiate prices. Is auto insurance mandatory in NY? Yes, New York state law requires all registered vehicles carry a minimum amount of liability insurance to cover damages from accidents. How often does car insurance go up in NY? Guidelines For Purchasing Auto Insurance in Massapequa and Brooklyn, NY
Most states across The United States of America have mandated purchasing auto insurance coverage for a self-owned automobile. Trying to drive without the required insurance is an offense that is punishable by law. Sure, one may buy the minimum or the basic coverage, but such a move is not recommended. There are many risks that one encounters on the road. The best way to remain financially well protected is to consider investing in the required coverage that often exceeds the basic policy. The premium is likely to be relatively inexpensive. It certainly helps to check the helpful tips related to auto insurance in Massapequa and Brooklyn, NY, before spending money on the insurance policy. First and foremost, a car owner needs to be clear about the following facts before proceeding with insurance shopping:
· Finding out the type of auto insurance that is mandatory and others that are optional
· Having the information related to the vehicle as well as personal information handy
· Obtaining insurance details from a minimum of three auto insurance carriers will help to get a good deal
· It helps to compare all facts, including coverage, the limits, and premium amount, to make the right decision
· Purchasing the required auto insurance must be done after double-checking the particulars of the preferred policy
· Cancelling an old policy is mandatory after the new policy is purchased
One may go ahead and buy the policy online after shopping for appropriate coverage. Unfortunately, the car owner cannot clear the doubts and has to buy the policy unquestioningly based on limited information. The auto owner may approach a captive insurance company with the same intention as well. Again, this is hardly the ideal situation. The concerned agent will work for a single company and not provide comparative quotes from competitors. Purchasing auto insurance from an independent agent is the most preferred practice, however. The prospective insurance holder will not only get information about multiple companies and get to compare their quotes, but the agent will be concerned about the insurance buyer’s advantage instead of favoring the insurer.
Best Time To Buy Car Insurance Driving without the right insurance coverage is a strict no-no. An individual must make sure to be covered by auto insurance in the following circumstances:-
· Before buying or leasing an automobile to drive it
· When one is a new driver’s license holder without being covered by the employer’s policy · Updating the existing auto insurance policy is essential when there is a major change in life, such as marriage, relocation, or a child attaining adulthood
· It is essential to check the state laws before investing in a vehicle. A few states need drivers to show insurance proof before automobile registration.
The auto owner may feel more confident by adding collision, comprehensive, and gap insurance to the basic coverage. This will help one to remain protected from multiple risks when driving.
It is equally essential to safeguard one’s home in the event of a disaster. Buying home insurance in Queens and Brooklyn, NY, will enable one to remain protected financially.

Choosing Car Moving Company - Tips and Tricks
Tumblr media
Car Moving, also known as Car/Vehicle Relocation, Car/Auto Shipping or Car/Auto Transporting - is a multi-billion dollar business in the USA with thousands of service providers coast-to-coast. Unfortunately this business domain has a historically unfavorable reputation and is a subject of never ending complaints from fellow countrymen.
The goal of our step-by-step guide below is to help you to choose a trusted, dependable auto transport companies ny that is best for you. Learn how to recognize and eliminate scam, what to ask and how to negotiate an offer. Know how to compare competing auto movers and how to make your final choice. Don't gamble - get prepared and ship your vehicle in a safely and timely manner.
Research Car Moving Companies First.
Use a proxy web site which you trust and get side-by-side quotes from 10 - 15 car shipping companies directly. Research these companies thoroughly. Check their consumer reports and business reviews on the web:
Once you get a list of 10-15 pre-selected candidates check their BBB (Better Business Bureau) or D & B (Dun & Bradstreet) rating. Don't go below an A grade unless you know what you are doing - otherwise you might have potential problems with these companies down the road.
Shop For the Best Quality - Not For the Lowest Price.
Don't pick a company just because they offer you the lowest price. Many auto movers bid initially low to get you committed and then will increase their invoice price dramatically. Other group of companies - auto shipping brokers - often bid low just to earn your business and then hopelessly try to match their low bid to real auto transport companies ny to transport your car. This often doesn't work. Some auto brokers still will be able to "find" a cheap mover for your car but that mover will likely be uninsured and not licensed (this is what makes them cheap after all). So if you feel that the offer is too good to be true - it likely is.
From that prospective mid-priced companies are typically the most trustworthy and hence - deserve the closest attention in your search.
Make Sure That a Company Of Your Choice Is Licensed, Bonded And Insured.
US DOT (US Department of Transportation) requires all auto moving companies be licensed, insured and bonded. If you work with auto brokers make sure that your eventual car transporting company meets all the above mentioned requirements. Make sure to check the mover's web site - they have to have their USDOT licenses posted on their home page. Companies with AFTA Plan Authorized Agent car shipping insurance badge deserve additional credits and trust. AFTA is a gap insurance which helps to cover what is not covered otherwise. Accidents happen, your car might be damaged or even totaled during relocation - don't gamble with it, let insurance pay for car damage or car loss.
Decide For Yourself If You Need Open Or Enclosed Carrier.
Enclosed carriers provide better safety for your car but they are about 50% more expensive than conventional open carriers. Most cars get safely transported in open carriers nowadays. So if you are not moving any new, over-expensive vehicle or a classic car with a sentimental value for you then companies with open carrier fleet should work well.
Ask If They Use Auto Terminals.
Vehicle relocation companies which use terminals need to gather a full load of cars going from one location to another. It may take several weeks before they could gather enough load to fill a full truck. Avoid these companies if you need a prompt shipping. However, if time isn't a main concern for you - terminal companies will provide a much cheaper solution for your car relocation needs.
Ask for Written Contract before Signing Anything.
Any assurances made by the auto mover verbally are worthless. Ask for a written copy of your contract and carefully read it end-to-end before signing the deal. Pay special attention to the fine print - never forget that the devil is hidden in the details. Understand your options and plan accordingly.
Check for Cancellation Fees.
Make sure that your car mover has acceptable cancellation policies - your moving plans may suddenly change and you don't want to be harshly penalized for things which are not under your control.
Conclusion
Considered to be a tough and stressful exercise by many motorists, relocating your car could be an easy and seamless experience if you approach it correctly. Choosing a dependable car relocating company you can trust is arguably the most important decision you can make here.
Never forget a wise adage - failing to plan is planning to fail. Plan well and enjoy your move.
