MERCEDES AMG ONE STUDIO LIGHTING UNREAL - Part 05

To start off my day, I focused on the rear number plate. By default, it was green in color, but I needed it to be black and white with the AMG embossed text. Using Photoshop, I created the texture and normal map, which I then loaded into the Unreal Engine material. Adding a bit of roughness gave it the desired look, and I am pleased with the outcome.

Moving on to the headlamps, since there is a close-up shot, I wanted to enhance the details, specifically the ridges on the reflector surrounds. To achieve this, I created a UV map of the surrounds and generated a lines texture in Photoshop, converting it into a normal map. I incorporated these into the Unreal material, and the result was satisfying. Here's a screen grab showcasing the before and after comparison.

After completing the internal components of the headlights, I turned my attention to the headlamp lenses. These lenses produce a rainbow or iridescent bubble effect. I referred to various reference images but couldn't achieve the desired result through my initial techniques.

Determined to find a solution, I searched for tutorials and came across one that showcased a similar outcome to what I was looking for. You can find the tutorial link here.

Following the tutorial, with a few tweaks to adapt it to the headlights, I created the material, and the result was impressive.

Next on the agenda was the roof scoop. During a test render, I noticed some banding in the scoop and needed to address it. After investigation, I discovered that the issue stemmed from the low-poly model. To resolve this, I smoothed the model, and it appeared to solve the problem.

Addressing the low illumination on the rear bumper, which I observed in a low-resolution render, I added a low-intensity area light to the rear diffuser. This adjustment allowed the diffuser details to become visible.

Additionally, I identified two more areas that required attention: the rear bumper grill and tire roughness. To rectify the grill, I increased the UV repetition value in the texture coordinate, resolving the repetition issue.

As for the tire roughness, a simple adjustment to increase the roughness value eliminated the excessive shine and specular highlights.

encounter with the cops

today i had a police encounter and got handcuffed while trying to help my drunk girlfriend, melo. i received a call from one of her friends informing me that she was drunk, so i went over and found her to take her home. by the time we got into the car, the police sirens were blaring and they pulled up, assuming that i was going to take advantage of her. i clearly remember the cops saying to me, “'[i]  know your kind: punks like you wander the streets of nice neighborhoods searching for prey'” (stone 12), but he’s wrong. all i was trying to do was take care of melo, but it was misinterpreted, and despite what i said, it wasn’t believable enough. it disappoints me to see how society is like this. with stereotypes and skin color, actions get misjudged and blown way out of proportion. i wish i could stay out of trouble, but these days it’s pretty complicated to do, since everywhere i go, the cops seem to interpret my actions to be troublesome in one way or another.

After completing the exterior work, I shifted my focus to the interior. It's worth mentioning that the interior model seemed to require fewer corrections compared to the exterior.

To begin, I tackled the carbon fiber components. Once again, the main challenge was matching the carbon fiber weave. Obtaining high-quality reference images was a time-consuming task in order to understand the intricacies of the carbon surfaces and their weave directions.

After identifying all the carbon fiber elements on the inside, which turned out to be quite numerous, I commenced my work. Firstly, I performed UV mapping for the carbon pieces and then applied the carbon texture. This allowed me to manipulate the UV direction and align the weave accurately. Once I had made significant progress with the carbon components, I decided to temporarily set them aside and move on to working with other materials, with the intention of returning to the pending carbon sections at a later date.
