married to money was honestly such a bad and depressing episode if only for that ending alone, I spent weeks trying to rewrite the ending but maybe I'm getting ahead of myself here
he just spits right in krabs' face and he's like "hey you're probably going to be lonely for the rest of your life, screw you, I could care less, you're crazy, I just wanted the formula, cya " and then he skadaddles out of the room to leave the poor crustacean in tears, that was such a brutal ending and I honestly wish planky had some sort of consequence cause honestly that wasnt cool.
i don't really agree. yes, the ending is sad... but sad isn't bad. they're not synonyms. they don't mean the same thing. it was funny exactly when it wanted to be funny, it was well-animated, and it all made perfect sense for their characters. i don't think the fact it's ending is sad or a loss for the episode's protagonist makes it bad. about the only thing i really agree with you on is that plankton probably should have faced some repercussions for toying with krabs' emotions like that but it honestly doesn't bother me that he didn't face any real consequences either. i mean, you've got to think of the bigger picture, in the grand scheme of things - with the times krabs' has done plankton wrong with little consequences, or the times plankton has faced undeserved punishment or disproportionate punishment... i don't see why an episode can't end with him getting the short end of the stick even when he was a victim. in fact, that's part of why i like the episode myself. and well, frankly, i don't agree with the idea that every character needs to receive exact karmic retribution for any actions they may commit in an given episode. that's just asinine.
additionally, i personally feel that given how plankton is consistently characterized and even exclusively within the context of the episode, plankton's dismissal does not quite translate to what you perceive it to, imho.
for starters, he doesn't really rub it in when he would under other circumstances. he sat and he heard krabs out about how he felt when he would have usually absconded the scene sooner or mocked krabs. and no, his "get a hold of yourself" isn't really mocking. so i don't think his dismissal was malicious in nature, because it just isn't how he exhibits malice. is it fair to krabs? no, of course not. and krabs has every right to be hurt by the way plankton not only played with his emotions through cashina but also dismissed the idea of reciprocating that krabs is confessing to wanting to be loved by plankton...
but plankton is not actually rejecting him or denying that he felt anything. he dodged the question completely. plankton loves gloating and loves having the upper-hand, he loves it when people know when he is unaffected. and we know he hates being vulnerable and often has difficulties expressing sincere, vulnerable emotions. so this is not something plankton would do, unless of course, he either A) does feel "something" and isn't ready to face that, and/or B) does think he went too far but can't bring himself to apologize yet.
but acting on either of those two possible feelings would alter the status quo in a way i don't think nickelodeon would approve of, nor would anyone working on the show be ready for, so addressing either of them would never, ever be relevant and so i'm fine with it ending the way it did.

plus i personally quite like it when my favorite characters get to be sad for reasons that are textually supported by the source material.

hey what are ur thoughts on spongebob and patricks relationship season eight rhough 9
The Main Drain
Another episode that shows the childhood friendship between Mr. Krabs and Plankton.
Mr. Krabs and Plankton supposedly destroyed the town of Bikini Bottom together.
SpongeBob’s Last Stand
Mr. Krabs calls Plankton “Shelly.”
Plankton reveals he’s been stealing Mr. Krabs’ mail for 5 years.
The Other Patty
SpongeBob reminds Plankton and Mr. Krabs of their friendship by showing them a photograph of the two somewhere between their late teens to young adults, in matching turtleneck sweaters.
Plankton repeatedly carries Mr. Krabs around.
Married to Money
Plankton disguises himself as Cashina with the intent of making Mr. Krabs fall in love with him; considers every romantic action preformed as Cashina as his own.
When Plankton's disguise is revealed, Mr. Krabs alludes the notion that he may love Plankton, or at the very least would like to be loved by him.
Company Picnic
When Plankton's picnic seems to be more fun than his own, Mr. Krabs ditches his own picnic to go play at Plankton's amusement park styled picnic.
Mr. Krabs almost decides to work for Plankton because of how much fun he is having.
Lame and Fortune
Plankton wore a t-shirt that said “kiss me I'm a copepod” with the intent of Mr. Krabs seeing it.
Mr. Krabs willingly gives Plankton a fortune cookie in the end when his scheme fails.
Salsa Imbecilicus
Mr. Krabs spends the majority of the episode willingly pretending to be intimidated by Plankton, who tries to toy with him in a manner that is somewhere between generic high school bully to flirty teen rebel.
Plankton refers to Mr. Krabs as "baby" again, and asks to be called "Sheldon" in return.

Mr. Krabs: Plankton, are you saying it was all just a scheme to you? And you felt nothing? Plankton: You're crazy! I'm out of here, and one day, the formula will be mine! Mark it. [He exits. Mr. Krabs scoops up some of the remains of Cashina in each of his claws and holds them close to his face, trying not to cry. He cries anyway. A doorman enters the room.] Doorman: Oh, hey buddy. I want you to know: although your wife just ran out on you, you still have to tip me.
I absolutely loved this episode. It was hilarious and there are so many things I want to point out about it, I don’t know where to start.
The fact that Plankton would go to any lengths to get the formula and that includes disguising himself as a bundle of money and trick Krabs into marrying him.
The fact that Krabs loves money so much, he would unironically marry it.
The fact that the two are legaly married.
The fact that Plankton is double-married now.
The fact that Krabs unironically asked Plankton if he really felt nothing after all this.
The fact that nobody suspected Cashina, nobody found her odd.
The fact that Plankton really managed to get Pearl to like him and also had a “girl talk” with her.
And the list goes on...Also, I’d really like to know the conversation between Plankton and Karen about all this and see Plankton being a mom-dad to Pearl.

(a whole bunch of notes under the cut)
Rather than just putting on a costume and doing a voice, Plankton and Karen repurposed some illusionary tech they were experimenting with to make it more convincing. the device is hidden in the form of a band tucked under whatever turtleneck he’s wearing atm.
- Tech can only really change the way colors and sound are perceived so he still had to shave/etc lol
- Has two eyes because Plankton and Karen had experimented with giving the former a bionic eye. it ended up being more disorienting/nauseating than anything so they repurposed it for on the fly magnifying and analyzing and under normal circumstances he just wears his eyepatch over it anyway. The false eye will mirror the movement of the other but there is a very slight delay.
- I’ve been using the name “Cashmere” instead because its more subtle and actually a name in theory lmao
- Plankton subconsciously based her appearance (mostly the voice and beauty mark) off of Krabs’ dead wife, whoops
 - Karen suggested the boob window “Never underestimate the power of cleavage”
- Plankton actually had his ears pierced because he forgot clip-ons existed and Karen didn’t bother to remind him otherwise until after the fact because she thought it was funny
I think... there was more... but this is all I can remember rn

What's your thoughts on the whole "Whale Prisoner" is Pearl's Actual Dad Theory? I may have not remembered if Pearl really was Mr. Krabs' adopted daughter or not but I heard some random rumors that the Male Whale Prisoner from "Jailbreak!" is Pearl's biological father since they are both Whales. Not much to say, but what do you think of that Theory?
admittedly, it kind of frustrates me when people suggest that in a cartoon like spongebob, it is impossible for pearl to be krabs' biological daughter and that she could only ever possibly be adopted; as if the show hasn't gone out of its way to regularly portray impossible cartoon antics that realistically wouldn't exist, but do anyhow? especially in the context of all of the marine life representing human people of different races and cultures - as if mixed race children don't exist? as if mixed cultural households aren't extremely common all over the world?
i don't actually have anything against the idea of pearl having been adopted - there's nothing wrong with characters being adopted or headcanoning them as being adopted - it's just that the mindset behind this specific headcanon results in ideas that are so rigid and unimaginative to me. additionally, it seems awfully arbitrary to decide that just because a one-off side character is the same species as a main character they must be related, when not all members of a species must automatically be related.
i don't think it'd even really contribute anything interesting or meaningful to the series or pearl's character that wouldn't be redundant or done better elsewhere or with other characters, so it'd be narratively pointless? if i was going to arbitrarily declare the prisoner whale related to any character in spongebob, it'd be the goth whale from mall girl pearl who got the job at scorched coral before pearl did - but even then, that's on the basis of both being largely irrelevant and not knowing anything about either of them as anything other than obstacles to the protagonists.
Tumblr media
technically speaking pearl probably would have been canonically adopted had vincent waller not shelved their planned pearl origin episode since he revealed on twitter that the episode would have revealed that she was a "foundling" BUT since the idea was shelved specifically because hillenberg was staunchly against any firm, official answers regarding pearl's origins (ie information about her mother, or whether or not she is adopted) so it's definitely not canon. there is no official canon whether pearl's adopted or not, there never will be, and there shouldn't be. there is no episode, short, movie, book, OR comic that says anything beyond "krabs is pearl's father, and pearl is krabs' daughter."
the only thing that is canon is that he was there for her birth and knew pearl's mom - and based on the way he talks to pearl about entering a relationship with "cashina" (plankton) in married to money, it's heavily suggested he was previously in a relationship with pearl's mom - so to me, the "foundling" idea doesn't really make sense, and it isn't an interesting exploration of what's already there. it'd make more sense for krabs to have been a step-father who adopted his wife's child before she was no longer in the picture, if he isn't her biological father.
but i do personally believe pearl is krabs' biological child, and that she is the result of krabs' union with her mother. who that mother was may never be known, but i'm fine with that because i love the creativity that entails. there's so many different ideas for who she might have been and why she's no longer around, and it's exciting to see the different ideas people have! i've got my own idea about pearl's mom, and here's a similar concept that i also like a lot.
