Chapter 8 : Pooh & F.R.I.E.N.D.S

We all know how important friends are in one’s life. Very lucky are those who have good friends. Some people have ‘Chaddi Buddy’ friends, while some have ‘Formal’ friends. I think these are the 2 extreme types on the Friendship Scale. I am not lucky enough to have friends who are like cronies and know and share every secret with one another. I only wish I had my gang as shown in the series like ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ or ‘Sex and the City’. But I should not complain about this, coz I am also not an easily ‘friend-able’ person. It takes time for me to warm-up to people and once that initial hiccup is passed, then there is no stopping Pooh 😊 But yes, the other end also needs to reciprocate. Else, I am not a psycho to force my friendship on others! Anyways, I am happy that at least I have few friends, who genuinely care about me and vice versa!

How do I describe my friends? Hmmm…thinking…..still thinking….Got it!....I am going to categorize my She-Friends and He-Friends into various interesting categories ….LOL….I hope they do not kill me after reading this, provided they are able to map themselves to one of these categories…Challenge thrown at you Friends…Buckle-Up!

Before I move further, I need to say that I have 2 best-friends i.e. Deedee & Sonu. They are in a completely different category and not part of the discussion in this blog 😊

Let’s start with my She-Friends.

POOH’S SHE-FRIENDS

Category1 : Single but near to my age

               These are those girls with whom I share so much in common. We talk about anything from A to Z. We share same tastes when it comes to music or movies or books etc. When I talk nonsense, these girls understand it 😊 These are very rare species, as being un-married at my age means you must be SPECIAL!! Shout-Out to you Girls!!!

Category2 : Single but far far younger to me

               Now this category keeps Pooh younger. When I am with them, I feel as if I am also in my twenties and totally carefree in life. We do also share common tastes. (Pooh is malleable. I can gel-up with people of any age :D). Sad thing is that this species is slowly vanishing coz either my girls are getting older or married....I wish them luck and promise them, that I will cherish all our memories forever!

Category3 : Married but no kids

             I have few friends in this category and topics of discussions are quite different. With them, the topics are more centred on husbands, in-laws, loans, pregnancy etc. But no worries, Pooh manages these discussions too with her ‘Fake Gyaan’…LOL….With these friends I feel like I have come to drop them-off at the airport and we are just talking excitedly before they go off for boarding while me waving them good-byes…With marriage, priorities change in life. So no complains there. But please do not forget your Pooh. I am always here for you guys 😉

Category4 : Married with 1 Kid

               Ahh…These are those friends, who have returned from their ‘journey’ but with one extra person in tow 😊 I just love and adore these babies of my friends. I am their Pooh-Aunty forever. For these friends of mine, major phase of a married woman is done and now they are coming back to being ‘normal’ girls, like me LOL…And we discuss all our old topics like music, books, series etc with on-and-off discussions on kids related issues, where I just nod my head along, as I have no knowledge to impart there!

Category5 : Married with 2 Kids

               Oh! This category is a dangerous one. I bade them good-byes at the airport and I know they are not returning back. We will continue to talk on calls and chats, but things won’t be the same again! These ladies are epitome example of married women and far-away from Pooh’s mental wavelength. But our connections do cross from time to time and whenever that happens, I re-live my old days with these ladies. On other days, I am just left bombarded with so much information about marriage-woes and mother-of-two-woes, that I am left speechless. Hats-Off to these women!! 😊

POOH’S HE-FRIENDS

Category1 : Seniors and Formal

               These are the people whom I look up to. They are more like elder brothers to me. They are always there to guide me, mentor me and listen to my cribs 😊 But, there is always a formal boundary and Pooh must be careful with this!

Category2 : Seniors and Informal

               This is a category of men with whom Pooh can talk utter nonsense and share any information without feeling awkward! They are my kind of crazy!! We talk about all topics from professional work to Netflix! The males in this category are more worried about me being single, then my parents or family were ever… If it was possible for them, they would set me up for a blind-date within minutes…LOL…Love you guys for having so much faith in me 😉

Category3 : Juniors and of course, Informal

               This category is similar to Category#2 but with a shadow of respect blended in. We talk nearly on same topics but with some ‘respect-for-the-elderly-lady’ thrown into the mixture….ROFL…This species is also in the vanishing stage, as with marriage and kids, their priorities are changing too. But I will always cherish our friendship!

So, now you see, I have a wide buffet of friends and I am thankful to all of them! They have played an important part in my life, in some phase or another and I am grateful to have them 😊 Love you peeps!!!

As I grow older and gain more grey hair and flabs, new categories will be added to the above list. Some of these categories will be archived but the people in all these categories will always have their own special space in my heart!

It's that time of the year again, and as #hurricanedorian crawls to the US mainland, it has been dubbed- at the time of writing this post- by meteorologists a perfectly formed storm with perfectly conducive conditions. Strangely, as apparently perfect as Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray. It's poignant- the hurricane's name and nature as it evolves, in its own hedonistic way, and becomes grotesque as a consequence, leaving loss in its wake.
