The Horrifying Concept of Time
As the pat gets larger and the future gets shorter You'll realize that we're all running out of time Making resolutions to change like coocoons I got my wings just so you could cut them off Transubstantiation Eat of my body, drink of my blood
The clocks ticks are far from infinite That second hand will just keep driving Gears and perpetual motion machines keep the baton twirlers in step left left, right, left left left left, right, lift
Stop staring at the clock You'll only manage to slow everything down And I'm sick of molasses on waffles Buy some fucking syrup and I'll gladly cook again That was the deal Keep things rustic and ugly
Each step we take is one step closer to the grave And that's why those who can't walk may live forever Wired and on fire Roll me down that hill I can't run up it
I'm out of shape this time

Writers' Retreat Shaina Tranquilino August 21, 2024
Tumblr media
Julia had always dreamed of becoming an author, but her life in the city felt like a series of distractions. Between her job at the marketing firm, the endless stream of social obligations, and the constant buzz of urban life, she rarely found the time—or the courage—to pursue her passion seriously.
So when she stumbled upon an ad for a writers’ retreat in the remote mountains, it felt like a sign. “Discover your voice, find your story,” the brochure promised. It was exactly what she needed. Without hesitation, she signed up, packed her bags, and embarked on the journey.
The retreat was nestled deep in the woods, far from any town. As Julia drove up the winding road, the city slowly faded from her mind, replaced by towering pines, misty peaks, and the soothing sound of a nearby river. The retreat itself was a cozy lodge, surrounded by cabins where the participants would stay. It was the perfect setting for reflection and creativity.
Upon arrival, Julia was greeted by Anna, the retreat’s founder. A seasoned author with a gentle demeanor, Anna radiated warmth and wisdom. “Welcome, Julia,” she said with a smile. “We’re here to help you find the story that’s been waiting inside you.”
The retreat brought together a small group of aspiring writers, each with their own struggles and dreams. Over the next week, they shared their works-in-progress, received feedback, and participated in workshops designed to hone their skills. Julia was initially nervous about sharing her writing, fearing judgment or rejection. But the group’s encouragement surprised her. They saw potential in her words, in the characters she’d crafted and the emotions she’d woven into her narrative.
One evening, after a particularly moving session, Anna took Julia aside. “You have a gift, Julia,” she said softly. “But more than that, you have a voice that deserves to be heard. I think you’ve been holding back, afraid of what others might think. But here, in this space, you’re free to explore, to take risks. Trust yourself.”
Those words lingered in Julia’s mind as she sat by the fire that night, the crackling logs filling the silence. She thought about the stories she had always wanted to tell, the ideas she had tucked away, thinking they weren’t good enough. Slowly, she began to realize that she wasn’t just at the retreat to learn the craft of writing—she was there to discover herself.
The next day, Julia approached her writing with a newfound sense of purpose. She allowed herself to be vulnerable on the page, to pour her heart into her story without reservation. As the words flowed, she felt a shift within her, as if the barriers she had built over the years were crumbling away. She wrote about love, loss, hope, and resilience, drawing from deep within her soul.
When it was time to share her new work with the group, Julia was filled with nervous excitement. As she read aloud, the room was silent, each listener absorbed in her tale. When she finished, the room erupted in applause, not just polite, but genuine. Julia’s heart swelled with pride and a sense of belonging.
Anna approached her again after the session, her eyes filled with pride. “You’ve found your voice, Julia. Now it’s time to let the world hear it.”
By the end of the retreat, Julia had not only developed her writing skills but also forged deep connections with the other writers. They had become her community, her support system. They exchanged contact information, promising to keep in touch, to continue supporting each other on their creative journeys.
As Julia drove away from the retreat, the mountains fading in the distance, she felt a profound sense of peace. She had come to the retreat seeking direction, and she was leaving with something far greater—a new sense of purpose, a community of fellow writers, and the belief that she could, and would, write the stories that mattered most to her.
For the first time in a long time, Julia felt like an author, not just in title, but in spirit. And she knew that this was only the beginning of her journey.

I think im going to try "writing time friday"
the freewrite company has interested me for quite some time, and i do long for one of their typewriters.
I know i struggle to write frequently, big surprise, I know, seeing my very lacking post history. I think this could possibly help.
Either way, I'm going to attempt. Anyone here can pop in and bully me into posting/actually writing for the weekly prompts. I'm going to try to post them here i think :)
This is but one small step in gaining the confidence to publish a novel.

Dinner Table
The dinner table is full of silent confessional affection,
We sit at opposite ends yet I’ve never felt closer.
Warm food is on the table, but my stomach is full of anticipation.
I pray your name for my thanksgiving,
And I substitute dinner for your lips in my mind.
It must holy to feel something this pure,
This is my last supper.

Hello all! I have excellent news: I have been published! A small, independent company that publishes through Amazon and Ingram Spark has picked up my book, “I am Become”. September Sky Chapter 9, Part 8
"Anything really. I write stories, poetry, random paragraphs that have no real reason. I just like to write. Always have." I said, wondering if there was any way I could speed this up.
"That's cool. Just passionate about it, huh?" Craig said again in that strange tone. It was as if he was mad at me for something I didn't know I'd done.
"Yeah."
"I think we need to get a drink," Addison said, finally joining the conversation. I couldn't thank her enough. I really don't like talking about myself, or small talk in general.
"Ok. I'm sure we'll talk later. It was nice to meet you, Chris," Mary said. Her and Addison hugged quick.
"Yeah, nice to meet you." Craig said, offering his hand. I sighed. Have I mentioned how much I hate handshakes? Even so, I shook is hand, maybe with a little more force than was needed. He looked at me like I was some kind of alien, something to be studied. At the same time, I felt like a mouse trapped in a corner.
"Same to both you," I said as Addison pulled me away towards the empty porch of the house. I tossed my cigarette butt, not knowing if I could smoke in the house or not.
"Sorry about that. They were grilling you pretty hard," Addison said as we walked extremely slowly towards the door.
"It's all good. I'm the new kid, and that automatically makes me interesting. I get it. Craig seemed a little intense though," I replied.
"He's really protective of me. We've been friends for a long time and we've been through a lot together."
I guess that made sense. Still, the feeling that the guy had an instant dislike towards me hung around, floating in the lazy river that is my brain.
"Oh ok. I can get that."
We were standing on the porch, about to open the door that leag inside. My stomach was in knots and I felt as if my skin itself was crawling.
Addison opened the door, and music pumped outside. Agent Orange to be precise. I could hear people talking, and even looking through the door, I saw two people standing by a refrigerator. The door we had come through entered into a very square kitchen. A metal table sat in the middle of the room. Two dirty looking punk kids sat at it, having some kind of animated discussion. We headed over to the fridge and Aaron ended us each a beer.
"Thanks," I said as I cracked open the Hamm's. Hamm's is a very cheap and very nasty beer. Usually, PBR is the chosen beer for hipsters and punks. I guess it's better to by the cheapest beer for parties. It's not like they are making anything at all at a dollar a can.
"No problem," Aaron said before going back into his conversation with the other stranger by the fridge.
"You ok?" Addison asked, giving my hand a comforting squeeze. I was in the middle of taking a larger then needed drink from the cold can.
"Yeah, I'm ok."
"Good. Let's go see if there's anyone I know in the other room," Addison said and started towards a square living room. Three different couches sat along three walls. Two of them were full, with the other having only one person on the couch. Addison pulled me along, like I was a puppy, which really wasn't all that far off to how I was latched to her right now.
"What's up Trout?" Addison said as she sat down next to the one person on the couch. I sat down next to her, almost on top of her. I was doing ok, but I still felt the knots in my gut and was terrified someone was going to speak to me.
The guy turned away from the conversation he was having and smiled when he saw Addison.
"Addison! You made it. How's it going?" He said. He was tall. I could tell even though he was seated. He wore a plain black shirt and dark jeans.
"Not bad at all. What about you? I feel like I haven't seen you in forever," Addison replied. Like always, I faded out and took observations of the room. There were quite a few people all dressed in various uniforms. Spiked hair and mo hawks seemed to rule the heads of everyone.
Even with so many people talking, it didn't seem all that loud. Sure, you could hear the drone of conversations overlapping, but it was almost as if everyone was in whispers.
Almost everyone held a beer, and a glass pipe was being passed around. The smell of pot was strong and the air was smokey. A couple people held small bottles of liquor.
"Chris!" Addison shouted. I snapped my head towards her and she laughed.
"Huh? Shit sorry. I..."
"Was lost in your head again," Addison said, finishing my sentence with a giggle. "This is Trout."
Trout put his hand out to be shaken, and I played the role again. My stomach art, and I knew my hands were sweating bullets. It felt extremely hot in the room, and the lingering cloud ef exhaled pot smoke was not helping at all. I forced through, taking his hand and nodding at him. Easy way to just acknowledge someone.
"Nice to meet you," he said, letting go of my hand.
"Yeah, you too." Hopefully this was the end of the interview
"I think I've seen you around. Your hair kind of stands out." I guess if I had to decide between small talk or being interviewed, I'd rather it be small talk. At least small talk isn't the barrage of questions being thrown at my face
