` event participants by category
{ hi there everybody! instead of doing something like, i don’t know, writing, or answering ims or properly plotting, i decided to make a list of which heroes are on each rotation because i’m one of those annoying people that loves to know all of the details before i start writing about something. after i started this, it seemed like it would be easiest just to scour the dash for everyone’s responses to prompts and make a list of who received each prompt too, so that’s what this is! i was going to just keep it to myself, but there’s really no point in doing that if it could be helpful for anyone else to refer to, so i decided to share it ;w; hopefully this aids in plotting somehow!
i can’t promise this is 100% accurate or mistake free; i’m also only including what i can confirm from the dash. if you want to help make this list more comprehensive, feel free to reply with what category your muse is in or let me know if there’s a mistake!
without further ado, lists under the cut! (edit: big thanks to our admin yato for sending me the hero rotation lists in hopes of saving me from doing this; unfortunately i’m still going to procrastinate and do it anyway)

what’s in store ;; ✩
@ccjonghyun
the flyer was hidden inside his notebook because he wasn’t sure what to expect. what if they had no idea how he looked, and the only giveaway would be the suspicious piece of paper filled with impressive promotions? if there was a chance he was about to walk right into death then seungjoon wanted to prevent it the best he could.
like it did from time to time, his heart started beating a little bit faster. just a store was certainly what he didn’t expect from a store. there were clients scattered across the rows of what looked like talismans and charms, and his mind started buzzing with different thoughts and ideas. it did follow the mystical concept the flyer made the shop seem like, but all the people inside looked like... people. with a sigh, seungjoon took a pencil from his back pocket, taking notes and crossing out any sort of body modifications theories. maybe the magical beings weren’t alien or mutant-like (he’d have to think more around those).
so the boy kept standing by the entrance and blocking the way of the front door. he was too busy to notice he was obstructing anything, though. his eyes kept moving from the notebook to the internal area to make sure he wouldn’t miss any details. if his original plan was not to look suspicious then he was certainly failing it - on many levels.

we’re in it to win
( @ccjaewon )
his biggest fear when he’d heard about this whole... cahoots the governing body had planned was that he really did not want to be with a deadweight. jongin knew that he could very much carry his own; surviving the first timeline and all helped with his ability to not fuck up as much anymore.
so when he found out that he’d been paired with jaewon, he was more than relieved. after all, jaewon was a part of nightshade –– and despite him not being as close to jaewon as he’d like, he knew the boy enough to know that he wouldn’t be bringing him down during this whole dumb competition the governing body had put up.
“jaewon hyung,” he called up, nudging the boy with his arm. it’s hard for him to hide the sly smirk that makes it’s way across his face, and the little glint in his eyes as he turns to look at the older boy. “i can’t believe we got paired up,” he begins, finger tapping against the charm on his necklace –– his magical weapon when unused. “with a team like ours, we’ve pretty much already won, haven’t we?” he jokes, though he’s sort of half serious. if anything, jongin’s pretty confident in his teamwork with jaewon.

i didn’t expect us to actually run into each other here. ( /he hates how awkward  he feels around someone he used to be so close to and he hates how his words echo the same sentiment. the shop is devoid of any of the crowd he expected to see given the posted sale but somehow the two of them still end up in the same aisle/ ) how...uh...how have you been? ( /he asks with a small cough, tinkering with some perfume vials absentmindedly/ ) have you come for a fortune reading too? yuuko is still with a client though so i’m waiting for my turn.

&&*  it’s mine!
@ccxsejeong
the competition was perfectly designed for her. they had to go out and beat monsters up as if that wasn’t the one thing that brought her joy. the fact they couldn’t just attack any monsters got up on her nerves, but she took the restriction with a forced smile. there should be enough troublemakers to get her score up.
it was good summer was starting to slip away so it wouldn’t be too hot to do outside activities, such as going for walks, or killing monsters with your magical hammer. after her classes were over, and she had done any other thing she was supposed to do, jisoo walked all around busan. she still kept her hair up to avoid unnecessary sweating, though once she transformed it would all fall back on her shoulders anyway.
the noise of destruction was one she knew particularly well, and as soon as it reached her ears it brought a smirk to her face. the hero held onto the strap of her bag as she ran towards the source of the sound, hoping it’d be a monster and not just some stupid car accident or something. it didn’t take too long for the strap to be ripped apart, and with a beam of light, her clothes quickly changed from the casual look to her magical uniform. her black hair turned a shade darker and fell on her shoulders, just as expected. “get out of my way! it’s mine!” with ungloved hands jisoo held onto her warhammer, eyes burning at the sight of a familiar weapon. she needed to beat something up, and if sejeong wouldn’t let it be the monster than the girl would take the beating.

letters to unknown
You aren’t someone who normally receives the morning mail from an owl, but there’s a Snowy Owl perched outside your window. Held in its beak is an elegant, burgundy envelope with your name and address handwritten in black ink. Should you decide to open the window, your winged messenger will take off to the skies after handing you the envelope. You look for a seal or family crest to no avail, yet it still carries the aura of something official. Do you dare open it? Opening the envelope releases the warm, ashy scent of incense. Yellow flower petals shoot out from the envelope as though they were spring loaded, and they bring with them the refreshing scent of Ylang Ylang oil. You look inside the envelope. As it turns out, its actual contents aren’t as elegant and mysterious as you’ve been lead on to believe. It’s nothing but a flyer for some store holding a 50% off sale. Ah, marketing tactics these days! You scan some of the offers for this strange place – Yuuko’s Shop, it’s called – and none of them are accompanied by pictures. The coupon expiry dates are odd too, most of them either expiring decades ago or will expire decades from now. You read only some of the deals: Enchanted Glasses are 50% off – be able to see magic for the very first time! Owl Delivery Service are 50% off for a limited time only Fortune Telling is purchase 1 meeting, get the other half off! Whether you choose to visit the address or throw the letter in the garbage is up to you. But before you make your decision, the bottom of the flyer catches your eye: Get all your magical needs before it’s too late! Something big is coming soon. ☹︎☜︎✌︎☝︎🕆︎☜︎😐︎✋︎ - Yuuko Ichihara
haru was staring and the bird was staring back. neither had moved or looked away for the last few minutes and the card didn’t want to be the first one to give in. he hadn’t expected to see a giant owl sitting in front of his window and even less so expected to see said owl hold an envelope in it’s beak. now, haru didn’t now too much about humans but he was rather certain that sending mail via bird hadn’t been popular in at least a few hundreds of years. he wasn’t expecting to hear from anyone and all of his friends had his phone, while most didn’t have an address, which led him to the conclusion that the bird must have gotten the wrong window. maybe youngmin was expecting bird mail?
he stares at it for a few more seconds before walking over to the window and lowering the blinds, making it very clear that he wouldn’t accept any letters from strange birds. besides, it was time for his nap.

level 1: the encounter

jooheon finds himself at the door of the shop half an hour and lots of staring at at google maps later. it’s everything and nothing he expected and jooheon’s sleep deprived brain still can’t wrap his head around what’s actually happening. his fingers are trembling, body suffering from the lack of energy, lack of sleep and when he stumbles into the shop it’s on two left feet and with confusion written all over his face. there’s too much he could touch, too much to explore and the lightheaded-ness he’s experiencing has forced him to blink repeatedly to try and focus on one thing at once. his fingers reach for the decorative pieces that are hanging all over the place before he can consider what the consequences of such actions would be, if he would end up breaking something - and it is possible with his bad coordination -, but before his fingertips actually make contact with anything, a movement from the corner of his eye catches his attention. jooheon turns, expecting the owner of the shop or perhaps someone who was working there; he did not expect to see a giant. the man next to him was taller than anyone jooheon had ever seen and clearly a foreigner. it only made sense that what was going on was part of a dream or a very, very long and thorough illusion and jooheon’s mouth, like always, moves without filter, “are you the hero of this game? does that make me your sidekick?”

Lifeline
@ccxtaeyong
Pulling her black Katana out of the corpse of a slain monster with a grunt Liv searched her immediate surroundings with her golden eyes for another threat. Panting heavily she got aware of how a trail of sweat -and probably also some blood- was making its way down her back. This so-called easy training fight their higher ups had sent them too turned out to be way harder than planned. They were supposed to fight low level monsters only, but naturally things hadn’t worked out as planned.
Swinging her Katana to deflect a piece of flying debris which was headed her way, the ex-special class hero winced in pain at the lifted arm movement she had to make. Telling herself to get her act together, because this wasn’t the time nor place to worry about the slash in her right upper arm, Liv dropped said arm back down and willed herself to run forward. The cut in her arm wasn’t so bad, it only stung like a bitch when she had to lift her arm up. But with the way she fought she sadly enough had to lift up her arm quite a lot. Luckily for her she also had learned how to wield her Katana with her left hand. Her swings nor cuts were as powerful when she dealt them from the left, but it was better than nothing. Ten minutes into their fight a giant monster with an even higher power level had shown up. The Rookies had scattered and Liv had tried her best to save as many as possible and guide them to safety. That’s where she got the cut in her arm from.
Heading over to the place where a very brave -and probably also stupid- soul was fighting the beast on its own, Liv hoped she’d get in time to him to either help him defeat the monster or to get him the hell out of there. Looking closely at how he was fighting and taunting the monster, Liv saw how a slippery black tentacle of the monster was making its way around the Hero so it could attack him from behind too. Knowing she wouldn’t be able to reach the guy on time to pull him away from the surprise attack she shouted with all her might, “Behind you!” Praying to everything that he had heard her, Liv decided to make sure the beast wouldn’t be able to kill the Hero by charging at it with one of the few long-range attacks she possessed. A powerful single beam of black and gold sprouting out of the tip of her Katana, it moved with the speed of light and pierced right through the tentacle of the monster to cut it in half. The upper piece of the tentacle landing on the ground with a crash, the part that was still attached to the monster slithered away.

*magical crossover
@ccguanlin  🍪
he pulls out a map, eyes narrowed as he tries to read it. why a map, you ask? he just thought it was more fitting for his harry potteresque adventure to this mysterious yuuko shop. not that any map would point out the shop's location and he did write the address but he forgot it. so he's now stuck with a map from the 90s and a shitty memory to help him find his way through busan's streets and he's never felt so stupid before (that tells you something). "where are you, witch?" he whispers to himself, bumping into a grumpy old man's shoulder and bowing apologetically for what seems like hours on end. when jaehyun finally lets go and continues his walk, he's more determined than ever to find this darned place.
his guts tell him to take a right turn, but he doesn't even know if his instinct is any good. he feels like he remembers the name of the street but how to be sure? he tried googling it but no results seemed even close to what he thinks he read in the letter. "i've seen this building before..." he says, hand casting a shadow over his eyes as he looks up. "that's probably because you've been here four times already, kid." a voice rises from behind him, forcing jaehyun to turn around. it's a woman selling spicy rice cakes on the street's corner. "have i?" his tone is dubious. he doesn't feel like he's walked in circles so much, but it's hard to mistake him for someone else with the gryffindor t-shirt he's wearing.
now with a plastic bowl filled with rice cakes, he continues his quest, having received sketchy directions from the kind lady. he's not sure she even believed there was a magic shop somewhere, but she did her best with the little information provided. a couple streets later, he bumps into someone again, but this time it's a younger male, about his height. he doesn't seem like he's about to shout profanities at him so he might as well ask... "would you know where yuuko's shop is?"

—* worst foot forward
@ccjiho
yebin grunts as she lands, skidding backwards and having to place one hand on the ground to steady herself. that last attack from the monster was powerful, and she stumbles slightly as she gets up, shaking any lingering tension from her right ankle as she jumps back into the fray, shouting to her partner.
“you know, something tells me this isn’t going well!” she exclaims as she has to dodge another ball of hot energy the monster throws her way, wincing as she hears it scorch the side of a building behind her. across the street, jiho is dealing with a similar onslaught. the monster seems to have no limit to its magical energy, at least compared to their own meager stores.
looking around for a new angle, yebin holsters her pistols before taking a running start and leaping up, managing to grab the horizontal section of a streetlight with both hands. she swings herself up and finds her balance, then pulls out her pistols again.
she only gets a couple shots off at the monster before the thing -- which looks like an oversized purple bear with scales instead of fur -- literally grabs jiho from the ground and throws her in yebin’s direction. with barely a second’s notice, yebin can only just get the safety back on her guns before jiho slams into her, sending them both falling the several meters to the ground.
they land hard in a tangle of limbs, and yebin’s vision is spinning as she tries to sit up. she can’t manage it -- too locked up with jiho on the ground with too much pain radiating through her from hitting the ground so hard. her body is, thankfully, a bit sturdier as a hero than it was as a human, but that was still a rough fall. by the time her vision comes into focus, she realizes that the monster is nowhere to be seen, and they’re still a pathetic pile of bodies on the pavement.
she lets her head fall back to the pavement with a groan and almost wishes that the fall had knocked her out. at least then she’d get some sleep.

╰ bring it! (snakes on a team) ╮
they decide to split up. unfortunately, it’s not kana and minhyun that decide to split up, like she wishes, but the members of their rotation. she doesn’t really want to have anything to do with minhyun, but when they suggest splitting up into pairs to cover more ground and hunt more monsters, and people start splitting off, nobody really offers to pair up with either of them.
“i’ll take him,” she volunteers, aggression seeping into her tone so it sounds more like a threat than anything, but she flashes a smile as reassurance to everyone before she sets out in a direction a good distance from any of the other heroes. honestly, whether minhyun follows or not isn’t that much of a concern to her. they’re both capable of defending themselves against a lot more than a couple monsters, though the rest of the league doesn’t really know that.
there’s a lot kana knows about minhyun that nobody else does, and vice versa. it’s a strange and invasive kind of familiarity. maybe in another life outside of the two they’ve already lived, they could be friends. now, however, it’s unlikely, or impossible. they’re too similar in all the wrong ways and too different in all the wrong ways.
for example, kana knows minhyun didn’t object to the resistance killing taeyong. she thinks he actually agreed with it. she thinks he’d kill him himself if he thought he had to, but she also doesn’t think he’d do it without a general consensus, and that last part scares her more than anything.
so maybe that’s why she hopes he does follow her. they have a lot to talk about, and kana doesn’t want to risk minhyun talking too much to anyone else.
“so, rumor has it rookies are getting promoted to new teams soon, and that’s why the governing body is doing all of this. bet it would be nice for you to finally be something other than nightshade, huh?” she flashes minhyun a vaguely condescending smile, but doesn’t keep eye contact for long, searching for the closest monster instead.
sure enough, one appears, and she readies her whip. she resists making some comment about how minhyun can fight a d level monster since she’s here to supervise, because she doesn’t actually want to put too much salt in the wounds of the first timeline. god knows she has her own.
“do your best,” she says instead, and she means it even if it sounds more like a challenge.
`❃ @ccminhyun

ʟᴇᴛᴛᴇʀs ᴛᴏ ᴜɴᴋɴᴏᴡɴ ᴘᴛ. ɪɪ
the owl visits him again the next day and by then it’s become obvious that the letter wouldn’t reach youngmin if not for a very direct approach.
haru didn’t know what the people who sent it were thinking, sending a bird that was only capable of hunting and flying to deliver an important piece of document, considering that it probably couldn’t tell him and youngmin apart.
with a sigh he opens the window and with an odd tingle in his fingertips he accepts the letter from the bird. it’s only upon the first touch that realisation dawns on him and the possibility arises that the letter had been addressed to him from the very beginning. youngmin, no matter how useful and kind, was a pure and simple human. he had no use for artifacts as such and haru wanted to shield and protect him from the magical world for as long as he possibly could.
although, he wasn’t the most curious person, the contents of the letter made it impossible not to go and soon enough haru finds himself in the middle of the oddly scented shop. there’s too many things to look at and more things to touch and the usually so apathetic card finds himself intrigued. he runs his fingers over fragile glass - almost breaks a couple things in the progress of his exploration - before reaching the part of the shop where the magic is the strongest. it’s an almost palpable tension that hangs in the air and when haru catches sight of the woman sitting there, he gets an odd sense of deja vu.  he doesn’t need glasses to see magic and sits down in front of her to get his fortune read. her answers are as unclear and cryptic as one could expect, yet haru finds himself humming, deep in thought, as if he was considering and reading into her words. it feels like they ring a bell, like something within him is resonating and awakening the longer he thought about it; a fog that was beginning to clear and give way to a bigger picture.
he blinks through the slight throbbing in his head and can feel himself grasping at straws as his feet carry him to the entrance of the shop. something is on the tip of his tongue; a word, a name, a memory, but as soon as he steps out of the door it’s gone. like a heavy weight that has been placed back onto his shoulders, a veil over his eyes and the fog that filled his head returns once more. he turns to look over his shoulder and considers going back one more time for a brief moment, but a gust of wind picks up, like the heavy exhale of a moody beast and the need for answers and clarity is quickly lost. instead, haru turns back and continues his way along the street like he’s already forgotten what had taken place.

Yuuko Ichihara
when he sees the owl in front of his window, jooheon wonders if his belated time to receive a letter to the magical school of hogwarts had finally come. his first impulse is to rush forward, to open the window and embrace the potential of a magical world, while his rational side is desperately screaming at him to lay down and go the fuck to sleep. his dark circles were so prominent they seemed ready to reach his cheeks and jooheon had increasingly more hallucinations since he stopped sleeping in favour of finishing up his game, but sleep was only secondary to his true passion and the owl was still waiting. he’s actually surprised when it hands him the envelope before flying off and it only takes a second before he’s ripping it open with impatient and eager fingers.
the scents that greet him are overwhelmingly strong and jooheon spends a good moment squinting and blinking at the letter before actually trying to decipher what was written on the flyer. as if the owl hadn’t been strange enough, nothing about what was happening seemed to match up and the teen is almost too sure that he was still dreaming a - admittedly - very detailed dream, when the sentence at the bottom catches his attention.
‘something big is coming soon.’
it feels like a game, it feels like nothing he’s experiencing in that moment is real, doesn’t feel like it’s actually happening. it also feels like continuing his marathon of not sleeping and instead heading for that shop was the best thing he could possibly do in that moment.
