Heaven Tonight (II)
I didn’t initially plan for this fanfic to have more than one chapter, but I just wanted to write something from Kerem’s perspective as well, so here it is. It was in my drafts for a long time, and I thought I should post it.
First chapter from Cemre’s perspective here.
Kerem is happy.
As he lies naked on the bed in the dark, with his naked girlfriend sleeping at his side, he's left wondering how in the world did he end up like this.
He doesn't remember feeling so in love with someone else before, not even with Meral. Even with her, there was always something missing. Small things that just weren't right; a rather mean observation from her part here, a weird look there, things that he usually disregarded, but which kept piling in the back of his head, reminding him that nothing was forever. That he was never going to be put first; that the most beloved people in his life would always choose someone else over him, just like his mother kept choosing to return to his father even if he was making her life a living hell.
This is not the case with Cemre.
He had ceased to believe in miracles long before meeting her, but what has she been in his life if not a breathing, living miracle? A diamond, as he had once told his mother; and he believes this even more than before now.
The woman who trusted him against all odds almost from the very beginning. He had hurt her during their first meeting, that night which he now wishes to erase forever. For all she knew, he could have been lying to her in order to secure his release from prison. Still, she put her trust in him. And she never ceased believing in him from that moment on.
Not even when he hurt her for the second time.
She had been right back then, he thinks, grimacing slightly when remembering his harsh words towards her. She had only been trying to help him, and she had done so because she had seen something in him, something worth investing in. But his mind immediately slipped into the old patterns of "hurt before you get hurt". He had thought she had disrespected him, when there was no such intention from her part. While trying to guard himself, he had hurt the person he loved the most.
And what good did that bring to him?
He had almost lost her.
He had truly, really believed he could make amends right away; it was only when she had told him in the front of the hospital that they shouldn’t see each other anymore that he had understood that making amends was not going to be that simple.
And Cemre eventually warning him she was not going to forgive him forever had really enforced this.
He had sincerely thought she wouldn't want anything to do with him anymore, that night at the police station after getting arrested. Hadn't she told him that she wanted him to change? And yet he had ended up in the same place as before. He had tried, but it had not worked.
He had been thoroughly prepared to give up on her, for her own sake. To set her free. What he did not expect is her not wanting to give up on him to the point that she confronted her own father just to save him from prison.
And he definitely did not expect this night.
He had thought about it before. While he was falling for her, he had thought once or twice about how wonderful it would have been to spend the night with her, but he didn’t really think that she would want to be with him, so he never allowed his thoughts to go very far - why dream of something and someone he could never have anyway?
Then he did have her, and it was better than anything he could have ever imagined.
His breath accelerates slightly when remembering the way she tasted on his lips and tongue, the softness of her skin on his, her wetness and how good it felt to be inside her, the way she moaned when she finally came.
As if she would somehow be able to feel his thoughts, she shifts her position a bit, then she touches his face with her hand, and he can hear her sleepy voice:
"Kerem?"
He turns towards her and kisses her, trying to be as gentle as possible, but the eagerness with which she responds takes him by surprise.
"Weren't you sleeping?" he whispers in her ear.
"Not anymore," she whispers back.
There’s desire in her voice, a feeling he recognises because it matches his own so well.
How does she even do it, he wonders, as she kisses him again. She barely touched him, and all he wants is to be inside her again.
“Easy,” he manages to say as soon as she takes a pause from kissing him. “If you don’t want this to be quick, take it easy.”
“Quick suits me at the moment,” she answers, and he doesn’t need any further encouragement.
Their lovemaking is fast and hot as hell, and when he comes it feels like heaven.
*
“Are you cold?” he asks her afterwards, when she finally cuddles up to him again.
“I’m not,” she says. “I’m fine. You’re warm. Kerem...?”
“Yes?”
“Please don’t get upset if I will fall asleep, okay? My eyelids are quite heavy at the moment.”
“I won’t. Go to sleep.”
"Alright... I love you.”
She doesn’t even need to say it at this point, he thinks. She has shown it to him so many times, in so many different ways. She always had his back when he needed her the most. She thought of him as being worthy of love at the time he believed it less.
Earlier in the evening, she had told him she couldn’t live without him, and he had not even known how to react, because no one had ever told him that. No one had ever made him feel like he truly mattered.
He still does not believe that he’s the best choice she could make, but he knows she thinks otherwise. So for her sake, he’ll do his best to become a better man. To support her just as she did for him. To make her life as easy and pleasant as possible. To make her happy.
To love her.
She gave him this night, he will give her the rest of his life in return.

I don’t even know what to say about this scene, to be honest. Cansız asked Selim to kill himself in exchange for Cemre’s life, which he promised to protect. So Selim met Cemre at her mother’s grave, gave her the diary of her mother and told her that she will understand everything about the death of her mother if she will read the diary, then killed himself in front of her after Kerem and Kadir arrived at the scene. Which, yeah, sounds tragic, but Selim was trash, and this series has a habit of fast-forwarding through trauma anyway, so I did not expect this to have any lasting effects on Cemre (and I was right, as you’ll see in the remaining episodes).
I really hoped that this was going to give us more insight into Özlem’s (aka Cemre’s mum) life and the mystery of her death, but as far as I remember, none of this will happen, as the scenarist won’t elaborate on what is written in her diary except that she loved a man who was not her husband. Did Selim kill Özlem out of jealousy? Was Cemre his biological daughter, or the daughter of the other man? Who knows? Who cares? If it’s not Cansız-related, it’s not worthy of a second thought.
