Pas De Deux - A  Moodboard (Three Part) One-Shot (Part 2)
@iamnottrisha - thanks for organizing!

Chapter 1
Chapter 2
She’d fretted all night.
What to wear the next day.
What the hell was going on between her and Jamie.
How intense his eyes had been.
How sweet the baklava had tasted when they shared it.
The heat of the kiss on her cheek after he’d walked her home from Sahadi’s.
Adso’s happy meows as he devoured Jamie’s leftover lamb.
She could barely focus on her lessons that day – and the students certainly didn’t mind when she decided to show a National Geographic documentary about whale sharks. She watched it six times with her classes, hoping that the simple purple dress she’d found at the back of her closet would be good enough.
They’d agreed to meet at four thirty – ninety minutes after classes ended.
So just as Claire buttoned up her coat, Jamie knocked on the door of her office. He was dressed nicely – black pants, dark blue button-down shirt, gray peacoat draped over one arm.
Claire smoothed invisible fuzz from her coat. “Hi,” she smiled.
“Hi,” he smiled back. “You OK to take the subway for a bit?”
She nodded, pulling her purse over her shoulder. “Lead the way.”
He did – a quick walk to Atlantic Terminal, and then they waited for the 2 train on the Manhattan-bound platform.
“When are you going to tell me where we’re going?” she teased.
The train arrived, and he followed her into the car, taking a seat next to her. Boldly he took her hand.
“We’ll be switching to the 1 at Times Square. Maybe that’s enough of a clue.”
She squeezed his hand. “Well – in the interim, can you tell me about your family?”
Through Brooklyn and lower Manhattan, he did. And she did.
His stories about Greenpoint in the 1980s – the Polish restaurants, the longshoremen, the Saturday afternoons digging in the backyard for bottles and pottery shards discarded around the old turn-of-the-century outhouse.
Her stories about Canada and Brazil and Tanzania and Australia, roaming the world with Uncle Lamb and his anthropology students.
Their stories about living in New York, and their students, and how their beloved neighborhoods had shrunk with gentrification.
At Times Square they exited the train and crossed the platform, still holding hands. As the 1 train approached they watched a man playing “Under The Boardwalk” on steel drums. Jamie drew Claire closer to his side.
The 1 train they boarded was an older model – individual orange and yellow molded seats stacked against each other. Claire squeezed in between Jamie’s broad shoulders and the sticky metal wall.
 “Are you hungry?”
She turned to look at him – noses inches apart. “I can always eat.”
“No food rules I should be aware of?”
She smiled. “No. Just good food.”
He glanced out the window – the train rolled past the ceramic tiles of ships at Columbus Circle. “I know a good place. Nothing fancy.”
Claire lay her hand on his knee. “I hope you know I don’t need anything fancy. You don’t need to woo me, Jamie.”
He met her eyes then – firm and clear. “Yes I do, Claire.”
She opened her mouth to reply – but the train jerked to a stop. Jamie stood. She grabbed his hand and followed him onto the platform at Lincoln Center. Marveling at the mosaics of musicians and acrobats and opera divas singing arias on the station walls.
Five minutes later they were seated at a bustling restaurant, browsing a menu of American classics.
“We’ve got plenty of time before the show,” Jamie said softly, reviewing the wine list.
“Are you going to keep it a secret until we go across the street?” she teased.
He looked up. “Let me just enjoy the fact that I can surprise you.”
When the waiter arrived, she ordered a medium-rare cheeseburger and an Old Fashioned. Jamie smiled so broadly as he ordered a steak and a Manhattan.
 “No salad for you, Claire?”
She rolled her eyes. “Rabbit food. In many of the places I lived with Uncle Lamb as a girl, if you couldn’t peel it or cook it, you couldn’t eat it.”
“And you’ve kept those habits, even though you’ve been back in the U.S. for how many years now?”
“Eleven.” She paused as the waiter returned with their drinks. “I never wanted to be one of those women who feel compelled to watch every single thing that they eat – to survive on green juice or whatever the hell they pay all that money for.”
Jamie raised his glass. “To being independent-minded.”
She clinked her glass against his. Sipped her drink.
“I assume that doesn’t bother you, Jamie?”
His brows creased. “What are you talking about?”
She swallowed. “That I’m…different. That I have my own opinions.”
“What? No, Claire.” He reached across the table and took her free hand. Caressing. “Don’t even think about that being something negative.”
“And it doesn’t bother you that I’m divorced?”
He set down his drink. “No. You can tell me whatever you want, Claire, whenever you feel comfortable, and I promise you it won’t bother me. It does bother me that whoever he was, he was stupid enough to not appreciate you in the way you deserve.”
 “But – ”
“Are you trying to push me away, Claire? Because I hope you can tell that I’m trying very desperately to get to know you, and share my world with you. And I want desperately for you to do the same. However much of yourself you want to share with me, I’ll gladly take it.”
She closed her eyes. “I don’t know what it is between us, Jamie. But I’m open to it. I’m open to you.”
He released her hand. She heard his chair scraping against the floor – and then he gently took both of her hands. Her eyes flew open – seeing him kneel before her, in the crowded restaurant, not caring about the wait staff or the people gawking from neighboring tables.
“My heart is open to yours, Claire. Please know that.”
Tears slipped from her eyes. “I do,” she whispered.
He squeezed her hands. Rose. Leaned over, breath hot against her cheek.
 “Good,” he whispered.

Lenny Giambalvo’s 1952 Chevy Truck is Built Around Family Values
The only thing better than being a classic truck enthusiast is quite possibly influencing future generations to get involved in the hobby. It gets even better when a parent has the chance to build a classic hauler at home right in the family garage with their son or daughter. For Lenny Giambalvo of Huntington, New York, his personal automotive passions definitely influenced his son, Mark, to not only get involved in the hobby, but to eventually open one of the East Coast’s more well-known hot rod shops, Creative Rod & Kustom in Womelsdorf, Pennsylvania.
Looking back at his own roots, Lenny gained an appreciation for high performance in his early years. As an avid fan of SCCA sports car racing, he eventually becoming involved, owning a pair of Triumph GT6s, as well as Porsches and even a Willy’s pickup. Regular visits to watch cars run at Watkins Glenn, Lime Rock, National Speedway, and Bridge Hampton fueled the fire and officially pulled him deeper into the web. As the years passed he started a family and honed in his career, never losing touch as a car owner. When Mark expressed an interest at an early age the pair teamed up, becoming regular visitors at Maple Grove Raceway in Pennsylvania to watch quarter-mile action and walk the pits to see the nitro-burning warriors up close. They also frequented both large scale and local custom car events where Mark became extremely interested in vintage Chevy trucks.
It wasn’t long till the duo picked up a thrashed 1952 Chevy pickup to start a father and son project in the home shop. Seeing that the project would entail an extreme amount of effort Lenny began a search for a more solid base, one that was an actual runner to take over for the existing truck. Mark’s perseverance, however, took over as he moved forward with his plans for a very elegant, contemporary-styled truck with endless modifications. Regardless, Lenny moved forward to secure another truck and began to scour the local For Sale ads, as well as surrounding town newspapers. He eventually located a well-patina’d 1952 Chevy pickup that had served its life as a hauler for an appliance store in New Jersey as evidenced by the faded markings on its doors. It was a runner in need of a full restoration and relatively solid. A deal was made and the truck now took up residence in the family shop next to Mark’s project. What’s a dad to do? Start building his own truck alongside his son’s project! Initial thoughts circulated around restoring his new find to original condition, however after examining the project, it was decided to restore the truck with a slammed stance and just enough modern conveniences to make it easy to drive and enjoy.
To get the project started the truck was torn down and its frame was evaluated. Seeing that it was rock solid it was blasted clean and given a fresh coating of chassis black and treated to a tubular transmission crossmember. Out back a 1966 Pontiac rear packs 3.73:1 gears and is suspended in place by a combination of 3-inch lowered leaf springs from LMC Truck, along with Monroe tube shocks. To add stance, handling, and performance up front a TCI Engineering Coil Spring IFS was grafted in place, accented by their signature upper and lower control arms, matching 2-inch drop spindles, tube shocks, and 7/8-inch performance antiroll bar. For plenty of stopping power a TCI Engineering under-floor dual power master with 7-inch booster moves fluid through stainless lines to 1966 Pontiac rear drums and 11-inch GM discs and calipers up front. To bring it all to the street a set of classic Wheel Vintiques 17-Series Artillery wheels are wrapped in Coker Classic wide whites, accented by OEM-style hubcaps with red lettering.
For plenty of dependable power to give the truck newfound attitude Lenny selected a freshly minted Chevrolet Performance 350ci/290hp crate V-8. Starting with a new cast-iron four-bolt main block they packed it with a nodular iron crank linked to powdered metal steel connecting rods wearing cast aluminum pistons to generate 8.0:1 compression. Plenty of thump comes from a hydraulic flat-tappet cam while iron cylinder heads with 76cc chambers generate plenty of flawless power. Up top, an Edelbrock Performer intake breathes deep through an Edelbrock Thunder Series AVS 650-cfm carb sparked to life by a GM HEI while spent gases flow through Hooker ceramic-coated block-hugger headers to a custom 2 1/4-inch steel exhaust with Thrush mufflers. Additional bits include Edelbrock Classic Series finned aluminum valve covers and complementing air cleaner along with just enough detailing to make it a standout. To move the power a warmed-over GM TH350 links to a custom steel driveshaft.
In order to breathe life back into the weathered old sheetmetal everything was stripped clean for evaluation. Seeing that the truck was going to retain its factory good looks Lenny joined Mark and his team at Creative Rod & Kustom to get busy by replacing any problem areas with fresh steel from LMC Truck, including the cab corners, door bottoms, and floors while also finessing all of the original sheetmetal to perfection, setting all the gaps, and metal finishing the body. Wanting the truck to have a very subtle appearance, Lenny went through the PPG color catalog and selected a very classic Orchard Green hue. Mark then loaded his spray gun and laid down the vibe, bringing everything to life. Assembling the truck plenty of chrome added sparkle from LMC Truck, including bumpers, grille, taillights, and other assorted bits. Completing the look, the bed floor was filled with red oak and finished to perfection. Inside the factory dash was refreshed and filled with dials from Omega Kustom to monitor the vitals accented by cool breezes from Vintage Air, while a Lecarra Mark 10 Classic steering wheel mounted to an ididit tilt column carves the course. For plenty of comfort on the long hauls a Glide Engineering bench was treated to yards of black Ultraleather in a traditional pleated pattern by RP Interiors of Horseheads, New York, who also handled the side panels and headliner. A black pile loop carpet from Auto Custom Carpet seals the deal, combined with an American Autowire wiring harness. The truck was a great experience for both Lenny and Mark, working together while also creating something truly unique, sealed with bond of a father and son, and to us that’s just plain cool.

2017 LANDSCAPE EXHIBITION
William Baczek Fine Arts, in Northampton, Massachusetts, is pleased to announce the opening of the 2017 Annual Landscape Exhibition.  The show will be on display from Wednesday, September 6 until Saturday, October 7, 2017. The public is invited to an opening reception with the artists on Saturday, September 9 from five to seven p.m.
This year, nine artists from across the U.S. and Canada who work in a variety of media, have been invited to participate in the exhibition.  The annual Landscape Exhibition at William Baczek Fine Arts gathers artists who push the boundaries of what can be described as a landscape.  Working in various materials, these artists have been selected to help redefine what the typical notion of a landscape can or should be. Does a landscape need a horizon line? Can a city be a landscape? Can a book be a landscape? A ceramic vessel?
Guy Laramée from Canada sculpts landscapes from old, discarded books, dictionaries and encyclopedia sets. Laramée carves away parts of the actual books and creates incredibly intricate and detailed landscapes. He leaves most of the book intact, but incorporates the landscape into the object so that both the book and landscape maintain their integrity. Part mysticism, part Eastern philosophy and part relic, Laramées’ sculptures invite close scrutiny and reflection.
Marc Civitarese says about his recent landscape paintings: “My paintings, though based in the landscape tradition, are cerebral and visceral explorations of the relationship of ‘man’ and ‘nature’, and thus depart from a pure realist depiction of the world and move towards a more expressive sensibility.  By abstracting what I consider to be the elements of realism: shape, form, and light, my work thus becomes and introspective exploration of my feelings and thoughts of man, nature, and spirituality.” Civitarese paints in oil on deeply textured canvas or linen then coats the finished painting in beeswax. In addition, he pours a thick layer of high gloss resin, which when combined with the beeswax surface, enhances the glowing light that the artist desires to achieve.
Jeff Gola from New Jersey paints in egg tempera. Typically, a slow, involved process, egg tempera paintings can look labored and fussy. But Gola’s landscapes, which at first look traditional, have a very modern sensibility. Avoiding the clichés of traditional landscape paintings, he captures a beautiful glow in the late day or evening light. Jeff Gola’s artist statement includes the following insight: “From my earliest memories, I have always been drawn to the rural landscape. Having grown up on a farm, I have always had a strong interest in observing the elements that influence that environment; the cycle of the seasons, the changing skies and the weather it portends, the constant presence of the natural processes of life, decay and rebirth, and the fading remnants of distant history and past lives. Egg tempera painting has a long tradition and its special qualities are uniquely suited to capturing the properties of light and exploring its interplay on texture. I have found that the slow and careful process that tempera requires to achieve its depth and luminosity suits my temperament and vision. The gradual building of form and the patient exploration of every surface nuance that is involved in tempera painting require a meditative and reflective approach, one that I feel enables me to examine personal memories and feelings that these subjects evoke in me.”
Andrew Haines is a Massachusetts painter who focusses on urban landscapes. About his paintings the artist says: “When driving, I have often wondered what it would be like to live with a giant billboard over my house?  Or to grow up with one so close by, from a car they often look small?   In more general terms the difference between passing through a place and actually living in that place.  My own neighborhood does not look so great from the window of a car but I have a deeper understanding of the it from living there so long. The neighborhood was built as one thing then continues to evolve with time going in and out of fashion every 30 years or so.” Haines’ paintings appear like literal depictions of specific locations but they are actually hybrids, part realistic part interpreted. They convey both literal motion and the motion of time and its effects on the streets, buildings and neighborhoods of the city.
Mallory Lake’s pastels of Italy, France, New York City, and more recently, her examination of steam train imagery, are consistently devoted to exploiting the rich chromatic capabilities of her hand-made pastels in order to depict locations that lend themselves to her unique interpretation. About her pastels, Mallory Lake writes: “I seek to evoke a response by my arrangement of light and dark in settings where recognizable objects merge into half-realized forms. To achieve this effect, I employ tonality—value relationships in a scale from light to dark—reserving the use of the lightest and darkest values for accents placed in contrast to the dominant tones. I use softened and variable focus, suppression of details, and a limited palette to enhance tonal unity. Photographer Edward Steichen, a master of tonality, said, ‘The real magician was light itself... with its accompanying shadows rich and full of mystery.’”
Rick Pas from Michigan uses an almost folk-art level of obsessive detail in his nature scenes. Regarding his acrylic on panel paintings, the artist observes: “Creating is an addiction. With all the highs and lows, you would expect. I am interested in the surface textures and creating paintings that portray them in realistic detail. Hopefully, a viewer will feel they can run a hand over the feathers and moss, or grasp an object in the painting. This detail is usually composed in an abstract design. The design can occur naturally or be arranged by me. The subjects of my paintings are usually based on the patterns and textures of nature and human interaction with nature. I have found subjects to paint in remote wilderness areas of the world, local parking lots, and my own backyard.”
Scott Prior will be showing new landscape oil paintings that continue his interest in the subject of light. Whether showing us a snowy, cold winter’s evening at sunset or a group of three cows languishing in a hot, golden summer’s light, what is unchanging in Prior’s work is his uncanny ability to fill the scene with light and air. Painting something as intangible as light and air might seem impossible, but Prior accomplishes just that.
Robert Sweeney, who has been the Chair of the Art Department at Amherst College for over thirty years, makes oil paintings that seem to be as much about the act of painting as the subjects themselves. Whether painting still lifes, figures, or the new landscapes which will be included in this show, Sweeney loads his stiff bristle-brushes and carves out his scenes, giving us, the viewer, the ability to witness the act of seeing and how to convey that in paint.
Jamie Young will be exhibiting both recent oil paintings and watercolors. Her abstracted paintings expand the notion of what a landscape should depict. Her organic forms and natural colors certainly show their origins in landscape, but without using recognizable intimations such as horizon lines.
These nine artists have all used the landscape in very different ways; the intent of the exhibition is not to redefine what a landscape can be, but instead, to try to expand upon that notion in unexpected ways.
Selections from this exhibition and other works by gallery artists can be seen on the gallery’s web site at www.wbfinearts.com.  For more information about this or upcoming exhibits please call the gallery at 413-587-9880 or email at [email protected].  The gallery is located at 36 Main St. in downtown Northampton, Massachusetts and is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 – 5, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 – 7 and Sunday from 12 – 5.

10 Tips to Make Your Car Look Like New Again
Tumblr media
Your car is one of your biggest investments, so it's important to take care of it and keep it looking new. Many people don't have the time or money to take their car in for a detailing every few months, but there are some things you can do at home to help keep it looking good. In this article, we will discuss 10 tips that will help you make your car look like new again!
1. Wash your car regularly - The most important thing you can do to keep your car looking new is to wash it regularly. You don't need to go out and buy a special detailing soap, use some mild dish or laundry detergent and warm water. Make sure to use a soft sponge or cloth when washing so you don't scratch the paint.
2. Wax your car - Waxing your car helps protect the paint from fading over time due to UV rays and other environmental factors. It also gives the paint a nice glossy finish that looks like it just came off the showroom floor!
3. Clean the tires - Keeping them clean not only makes them look better but also helps keep them in good condition. Use a dedicated tire cleaner to get rid of any dirt and grime that has built up on the tires and then use a tire shine product to make them look extra glossy.
4. Clean and condition the interior - The inside of your car can get just as dirty as the outside, so it's essential to keep it clean too. Vacuum out all of the debris, dust, and dirt from the interior regularly and use an appropriate cleaner (such as leather or plastic) to clean all surfaces inside. Also, don't forget to condition your leather seats with a dedicated leather conditioner!
5. Use glass cleaners - Keep your windows looking crystal clear by using glass cleaners specifically made for cars. These will help remove fingerprints, grease, and dirt that may have built up over time.
6. Clean the headlights - Dull or foggy headlights can make your car look older than it really is. Use a headlight cleaner to buff away any grime and help you get them looking new again!
7. Clean out the engine bay - It's not something most people think of doing, but keeping the engine bay clean is important as well. Removing years of built-up grease, oil, and dirt will ensure that everything runs properly and also helps keep your car looking nice!
8. Get rust removed - If you find some rust spots on your car (usually caused by road salt in winter), take it into a professional who can safely remove and treat it. Rust can quickly spread and cause major damage if not taken care of, so don't wait too long!
9. Touch-up scratches - Small scratches that are just on the surface can be filled with touch-up paint to make them look new again. This is a great way to keep your car looking fresh without having to do full bodywork.
10. Use specialized auto detailing York PA products - If you really want your car to shine, invest in some specialty cleaning products such as clay bars or polishes specifically made for cars. These will help remove stubborn dirt and grime that regular cleaners can't get rid of!
Following these tips will help ensure that your car looks its best all year round and will help maintain its value with car detailing York PA. Taking the time to care for your car can also save you money in the long run by preventing any major repair work that might be needed down the road. So don't wait and start taking good care of your car today!
