Haikyuu CH 392  Ramblings!
Hey guys, I’m alive! Life kinda went crazy, my spring semester started and it’s a lot busier than I thought it would be, I already have midterms to study for so pray for my sanity. Haikyuu is one of my escapes and am so thankful for it and everyone that has supported this blog so thank you!
I love the fact that Bokuto no longer has his emo mode, he has grown up and learned from his mistakes and knows that the only way to get better it to improve and not dwell on the mistakes, that it’s better to learn from them.
I’m actually not that sad that Fukurodani got second place. It’s more saddening in an almost humble way, they did their best and were still able to get that far which is not as simple and one would believe.
Haikyuu again shows that not everyone is gonna win every time and that it’s okay to fail as long as you get up again, learn, and move forward.
Konoha’s speech got me right in the heart though, especially when it showed all of the things they had to put up with. When he said that he was happy to be there with his team and able to see the sight of centre court made me feel so nostalgic of my time in band in highschool I started tearing up.
The little panel when Bokuto hurts himself do dumb shit is so incredibly Bokuto I love it, and the fact they also yell for Akaashi as well as the coach, like not any of the other third years no they call Akaashi.
I absolutely adore the ending page with the Fukurodani members all cheering on Bokuto, the normal ace.
It’s not even an insult to be called normal, in fact it’s the highest compliment. Sure he wants to show off to people but it’s no longer his single driving force, he wants to get better because it’s fun. That’s how I see it anyways.
There’s not anything about Bokuto’s backstory in this and it didn’t delve a lot into his emotions like it has been for other characters but I don’t think anything could be better, it just fits Bokuto so well. He has the cheers of his teammates of old and thats all he’ll ever need.
Also still gotta love that Akaashi drove all the way there to cheer Bokuto, there are totally dating and in love and no one can tell me otherwise.

but... why?
akaashi sighed as he put down his phone, his eyes trailing over the numerous bags and suitcases meiko had brought on the trip.
it wasn’t like he didn’t want to hear bokuto’s answer but... he knew it would be something so sweet and wholesome that another wave of intense guilt would overtake him.
keiji, despite what he seemed to portray, wasn’t an idiot. he knew he was neglecting his closest and oldest friend and he knew it was affecting the both of them. he couldn’t remember the last late night mcdonald’s cheat meal he’d gone on with bokuto or the last time bokuto had pestered him about the book he was currently immersed in.
instead, his days were primarily occupied with meiko and attempting to read books that he was meant to do reviews on for his channel. as of late, it was much more of the former, his lover (??) basically forcing him to spend time with her.
ok, so she wasn’t exactly forcing him but there were times where he wished meiko cared enough to accept that he didn’t always want to watch the bachelor (the lowest form of entertainment in his opinion) and talk shit about certain people in the house. sometimes, he just wanted to lie down in bed with a large mug of hot chocolate, a good poetry book and maybe, just maybe, the woman he loved pressed against his side allowing him to read to her.
once, akaashi had brought up his desires to meiko. she’d laughed (physically laughed!!!) in his face and told him that “if she wanted to listen to a boring man read a boring book, she’d just buy an audiobook of the bible.”
not once did he express his feelings to her again.
he realized the relationship he had with meiko wasn’t the healthiest, especially since he had the room next to iwaizumi’s and heard every single noise she made when he was with him.
keiji’s therapist (a dr kanemoto — he’d been seeing him since he was 11 for his test anxiety ((his parents had always been overly prepared))) had advised against entering this content house in the first place.
apparently, with his introverted tendencies and the resurgence of his anxiety, it wasn’t the smartest of decisions to move into a home with so many high energy, semi-problematic, super famous creators.
but by the time he figured that out, he’d already signed the contract and promised bokuto that he would follow through. it didn’t help that meiko was in his other ear, practically begging him to come.
so akaashi did.
and now here he was; sitting in his girlfriend(?)’s room, surrounded by her things while dreading a conversation with his best friend.
when did everything go so wrong?
a knock sounded at meiko’s door, making keiji jump a little at the sound. he could feel his heart begin to beat erratically, his palms starting to sweat, and his stomach tightening as he made his way to the door.
when did he get anxious at the thought of bokuto????
taking a final deep breath in, akaashi opened the door only to be met immediately with... a hug.
bokuto’s muscular arms wrapped around keiji’s shoulders, the taller man squeezing him tightly — not too tight but enough that akaashi could feel himself melt into his friend’s hold.
keiji hesitantly lifted his arms to reciprocate the hug, a large sigh leaving kotarou’s body.
“missed you,” bokuto whispered, so quiet akaashi almost didn’t catch it. the short phrase was so full with emotion that his eyes welled up with tears, his vision behind his glasses becoming blurry.
“i... i missed you too bokuto-san,” keiji finally responded, his voice thick with regret. the silver haired man didn’t respond, instead choosing to hold him tighter.
they stood there for what felt like hours but in actuality was actually closer to 2 minutes, just basking in one another’s presence for the first time in months.
they probably would’ve stayed that way too if it weren’t for kuroo awkwardly clearing his throat at the door. akaashi quickly removed himself from bokuto, missing the hurt look on his friend’s face entirely as he awkwardly waved hello to the small calvary standing outside meiko’s room.
“sorry to interrupt,” sakusa began, shifting uncomfortably at the entrance. “but we are here to help.” the rest of the group nodded in agreement and with keiji’s subtle nod of approval, they all dispersed into the room, collecting meiko’s stuff and throwing them (quite literally, in kenma’s case) into her bags.
bokuto shot akaashi a small smile before joining atsumu on the far end of the room, who was working on meiko’s hair products. it was nice to see him getting along with others and making friends but it was... bittersweet.
somehow, keiji felt like... he wasn’t a part of bokuto’s life anymore — like he was an outsider just looking in.
“he’s changed, hasn’t he?” a soft voice came from beside him, temporarily startling him until he saw who was speaking to him — you.
you weren’t looking at akaashi, your eyes entirely focused on bokuto who was now enthusiastically conversing with sakusa about various skin care products, waving about meiko’s as an example.
“bokuto is kind and he’s funny and he cares... he cares so much,” you continued, in the same soft, kind voice. “he cares about you—” keiji’s breath hitched in his throat, “and while at the moment i can’t understand why, i trust him.”
finally, you looked up at him, your gaze taking him completely off guard. “don’t hurt him, okay?” and with that, you walked off, moving to join kenma and kuroo, playfully ruffling kenma’s hair as a greeting while gently hip bumping kuroo.
akaashi couldn’t stop the tears from welling up in his eyes again but this time because of pride — pride that his best friend had a people who saw him for who he was and not just some empty headed himbo. instead they, no you, saw bokuto as intelligent, observant and oh so sympathetic.
he watched as bokuto approached you, wrapping his massive arms around your waist and pressing his nose into your hair, laughing softly at your giggles.
if you saw something in kotarou that no one else did, if you treated him with the respect and kindness that he so deserved, then maybe, just maybe, you deserved that kindness too.
and if keiji could try for anyone, he could do it for bokuto.

the sound the wind makes - ch.01
college!au - slice of life
bokuaka | kuroken
volleyball dynamic duo kotaro and tetsurou conquer their junior year in college. akaashi gets a new, loud, and irritating chem partner. kenma starts his freshman year in college.
Volleyball. Haikyuu. You must not let ball touch the ground. Must not let the ball touch the ground.
With instinct, like it was a sixth sense, Kuroo dove to the ground his arms outstretched in front of him, his eyes never leaving the blue and yellow ball.
It was the moment of truth, University of Tokyo tied with Meiji University with winning the 1st set as Meiji won the 2nd. But now on the 3rd set, Meiji has scored 23 points, Tokyo leading with 24.
Kuroo’s hand and the ball connected, sending it soaring back up again. Loud shrieks were heard across the gymnasium.
In the blink of an eye, Bokuto jumped up, pulling his hand back as he braced to hit the ball. The Meiji players started running, positioning themselves to the calculated dropping place of the ball.
Kuroo ran to the right side of the court, preparing for the possible repercussions Bokuto’s choice of play would have. He takes a side glance at his friend, and he saw the trademark Bokuto Kotaro smirk and the blazing fire in his eyes.
There are plays that are practiced, and plays that just work for them like they’re a well oiled machine, but there are rare times where Bokuto gets carried away by the moment and becomes completely unreadable.
Kuroo sees the amount of force Bokuto plans to hit the ball with, and he knew it will take the ball outside the court. He needs to knock some sense into him. “Kotar-“
Dump.
“Bokuto Kotaro scores with a dump! University of Tokyo wins!”
Un. Pre. Dict. Able.
-
“Hey! Kuroo! Bokuto! Nice game!” a random guy and his group of friends cheered them on as they walked down the stairs, on the way to class. Kuroo gave them a wave as Bokuto shouted, “Thanks!”.
The game was exhausting but they had a chem class in the afternoon. It was one of the classes they had together, even though they were in different departments.
“Hey, I heard Touma dropped out of school.” Kuroo mentioned, stuffing his hands in his pockets. The April wind was chilly.
Sato Touma was Bokuto’s chemistry partner. He heard that he was transferring to a university abroad, but since he didn’t like talking to people, he never really talked to Bokuto.
“Where are you guys on the paper Ito sensei wanted us to submit before midterms?” Kuroo asked, pulling out a candy from his pocket.
“Oh shit!” Bokuto exclaimed, completely forgotten about the paper. He was hoping Touma would start it, as he was busy with volleyball practice. So, in short, they weren’t anywhere with the paper.
“So I take that as, you haven’t started the thing?” Kuroo asked, raising an eyebrow, the candy in his cheek.
“No. I hope whoever gets reassigned to me has it started. He wants a chapter 1 draft this friday right?” Bokuto groaned loudly, causing some of the passing students to stare at them.
“Do you think that loner kid would get paired up with me? I mean he probably has to right? He’s the only one without a partner.”
Kuroo sighs, transferring the candy to his other cheek.
“I don’t know. Seriously, you have nine units this semester what do you do at home?”
“Video games. Duh.”
This time, it was Kuroo’s turn to groan out loud. Cramming wasn’t his style, but it was Bokuto’s, so ever since that sub-par art project they did in middle school, Kuroo opted to never pair up with Bokuto again.
Kuroo looked up and squinted his eyes. Huh. He must be seeing things. Or maybe his eyes were getting blurry.
“Hey. Kotaro. Hey.” He smacked Kotaro’s arm hard.
“WHAT-“
“Hey is it just me, or does that clock say 2:30?”
“Yeah. It says 2:30. Did you go blind?”
“Our class is at 2PM.”
“Yeah, duh, I go to that class too.”
“It’s 2:30.”
They stared at each other for five seconds, before Kuroo could almost hear something click in Bokuto’s brain.
“OH SH-“
Both of them started running as fast as they could towards the building.
-
“Late again!” Their professor exclaimed as they tried to quietly enter the classroom. Mr. Ito sighed and just signalled them to sit down. He turned his back and resumed writing formulas on the board.
“Excuse me.” It was faint, and Bokuto didn’t hear it. He took his pen and crept it slowly up Kuroo’s ear. “Bokuto-san.” Kuroo slapped the pen away from Bokuto’s hand and, began writing down the formulas. Bokuto pouted and leaned back on the chair and closed his eyes.
“Bokuto-san.” Bokuto opened his eyes and saw someone with a very straight face looking down at him.
“…Yeah?” He answered.
“I’m your new chemistry partner.” The person took a piece of paper from his notebook and handed it to Bokuto. “These are the list of topics I want you to read for the paper. I already started, so I’ll need your input for chapter one by tomorrow.”
Bokuto takes the piece of paper from his hand and read it, but as he saw him turning to leave, Bokuto said, “Hey, what’s your name again?”
The person looked back at Bokuto.
“Akaashi Keiji.”
