The Weapons are losers and that's awesome
After Chapters 139-44 of Chainsaw Man I think it's safe to say that I love that none of the Hybrids have their lives together or are cool. It's so realistic for immortality rather than vampire maturity or whatever.
Denji and Miri being just teenage boys, though Miri needs respecting women lessons, is perfect especially how they're captured persona wise. Reze's portrayal as a child soldier was also authentic since CSMs world is absolutely built of exploiting the vulnerable or leashed. I hope we see her more soon.
The older Hybrids are also their own brands of either immaturity, apathy, or psychopathy, which makes sense since they're fully grown adults and their brains and conscious behaviours are fully developed. Katana and Whip being over-the-top and unreasonably, and self-righteous/a supremacist respectively, Barem being just Makina but a psychopathic Clergy man, and Spear and Quanxi being mirrors of the apathetic nihilism (Quanxi being hedonistic and loving her Fiends, meanwhile I suspect that Spear probably prefers the freedom of loneliness and how it doesn't tie him down) causes are great overall representations of the bad what if persons getting the strongest power imaginable.

Weapon Hybrids - Work Occupancy
As I mentioned in the part of my rant-long thing about the Weapons, I said I would attempt to deduce the personality, origin, or anything substantial about the Weapon Hybrids we don’t know anything about besides their weapons.
These characters are of course, Flamethrower, Spear, Longsword, and Whip.
Let’s start with what we do know. I’m unsure of this particular quote if it’s the same in Japanese, but English-translated it’s this little nugget from Reze:
‘Come here Denji, I’ll show you how we do battle’
When I first read that it didn’t stick out to me just as another ‘lesson’ she was ‘willing’ to teach him, but rather her admission she’s fought other Hybrids or alongside other Hybrids before. Denji being in the middle of a mild breakdown and fight didn’t pay this any mind, but I’m willing some readers did. This gives us a head start on what types of jobs the Hybrids likely had:
Terrorist, Devil Hunter, Government-Employed Assassin, Jailer, Entertainer, or Vagabond.
In my previous post I mentioned that the two people that Makima brought to the Zombie Factory are the Flamethrower/Spear Hybrids due to the recognisable features they had. At this time and until their ‘deaths’ against Pochita in their second confrontation, they were likely Devil Hunters in some capacity due to Makima’s methods of ‘recruiting people’ she finds interesting or relevant to her goal of conquering the world. Just ask the Fiends/Devils who worshipped Pochita, but were...employed...by Makima.
Anyway, what little we get from Flamethrower and Spear in terms of personality is that Flamethrower is a relatively calm and level-headed individual outside of battle where he greatly enjoys using his Flamethrower powers, as he shouted ‘Burn for me Baby!’ during his first attack on Pochita and not caring about blowing the building up.
Spear Man from his introduction appears to be a competitive individual on surface level, though he lacks the typical braggart part in that throughout the battles he never cackles like Whip does or shout ‘Woah’ at any point - he just focuses on fighting Pochita; the first time he attacks, he successfully snipes Pochita, and the second time he rams a spear through Pochita’s chest before Pochita deals him an injury that puts him out of commission.
Going by these personalities of these two I would venture to guess that Flamethrower, at least at one point, was an Arsonist/Terrorist or a government-employed assassin from an unknown country. Him being a terrorist would make sense for him to have one of the most dangerous terror-attack devils as his goal would be to inflict the maximum amount of fear (or potential terror) and destruction to anything he’s fighting against or to force concessions from whoever he’s attacking. If he was an assassin, it was likely he was deployed as an early move by an unknown country to take out Makima, but he was soundly defeated and ‘revived’ under Makima’s control - this is the more plausible option as this ended up happening to Reze and Quanxi.
Spear Man on the other hand I believe to have had a more reputable or government-related job. I believe he may have not necessarily been a Devil Hunter, but a bounty hunter of some kind since his Devil brings to mind wild-life Hunters rather than someone who directly fights people. He was likely employed as a counter-measure to specific Devil threats that couldn’t be handled by regular Devil Hunters or specific contracts. It’s stated or speculated by Aki’s initial statements that whatever Hybrids are, they tend to face a special type of discrimination beyond what Fiends or Devils do, and typically struggle with dehumanization - Reze never being allowed the childhood typical of a regular person is a great example. Spear Man could have also been employed by the Yakuza, and I think this would make sense too considering his competitive and professional nature to getting the job done, it would make him a fierce and feared individual in the criminal underground. Ultimately he was likely on a leash from the government, like Reze, but somehow came across Makima and was repurposed into a japanese ‘Devil Hunter’.
The next two are where it gets more depressing I reckon, especially if we take into consideration how terribly the Hybrids are dehumanized. Let’s go over what we know about them and their treatment so far:
* Most if not all of them have more than likely suffered abuse at some governmental power
* They’re all discriminated against, and been employed against their will at pain of death - the only distinction being Quanxi and only because she was ‘The First Devil Hunter’ which should give her a well-earned enough reputation to mitigate the usual level of discrimination. She was also (probably) able to bargain with her government for rights for her girls because of this rep as well.
*They have no rights, much like Fiends or employed Devils.
*They’ve usually all had some kind of handler; usually a government-related employee; in Denji’s case he was ‘employed’ by Makima but lived with Aki, Reze was likely kept isolated from people her age and lived with the military, Quanxi had contact with the Chinese Government but wasn’t explicitly held by their hand. Katana Man is the only non-Government employee and that’s because he’s an even younger Hybrid (in terms of time at being one) than the others and he was a Yakuza. It’s likely that Whip, Longsword, Flamethrower, and Spear had some relationship with an authority figure of their own countries/regions before being ‘drafted’ into Special Division 5.
Now let’s continue with Whip and Longsword.
Whip Devil was likely working as an Entertainer or spy. Considering that she’s definitely not a teenager by her looks, she is likely an espionage agent of some kind with a day-time job of being an entertainer at either some sort of entertainment establishment (A cowboy circus would make the most sense considering she is the Whip Hybrid or whatever other  job aspects a WHIP Hybrid would entail to be used for) and a night-time job of either dealing with Devils, or unsavory criminals/individuals for her government. Edit: add the possibility of being some kind of underground Devil Hunter already as the poll actually describes her as 'arrogant and unaffected by others feelings' so if she were a Devil Hunter it would make much more sense that she thought she could take on the Control Devil, only to get beaten by her.
Longsword was likely homeless or recently outcast, and most importantly, I believe the last recruit to Division 5. The reason for this is that while they do wear a Special Divisions suit, they wear a hoodie underneath that with a collared shirt underneath (I don’t know if it’s the Public Safety shirt since we don’t see the tie but I’m going to assume so), which is something unfitting for Makima’s preference for uniform in her armies as she’s a massive control freak, leading me to believe that Longsword was captured less than a day ago if she’s unable to get them to conform to the dress code. It’s quite possible that Longsword is from a warmer climate than the others since no-one else has to wear a jumper, and it is too unique of a design choice to ignore, or there’s some other important reason they’re wearing multiple layers. Also it should be noted that in their close-up introduction they also have a pretty boy appearance as they have eyelashes like the effeminate Angel Devil. Unlike the other unnamed Hybrids I don’t believe that Longsword was actually affiliated with any Devil Hunters or organizations previously before Makima found theml; their posture seems far too lax and unlike the other fighters they appear to be reckless at fighting or unskilled at fighting, despite wielding the Longsword Devil, making me believe they were very likely a fugitive of some kind, or at the wrong place at the wrong time (like Asa was) or they’re extremely good at blending in, and despite their appearance and their probable fugitive status I believe we will see them again at some point. Their appearance is similar to Denji’s Beta Design - making them an almost literal parallel - and at this point Denji probably has to fight all of the Weapons as themselves, because that’s what happened with Pochita and he’s already fought Bomb, Crossbow, and Katana as people.
It’s just a matter of time and usage where Longsword, Flamethrower, Spear, and Whip come in. If anything it could be very close to the end of Part 2 I’d imagine if they’re not reintroduced in the next Arc in Part 2. Why I believe this is because the central protagonist is part War Devil.
And is the first thing that comes to mind for a field commander to need for war? strong armies, filled with even stronger weapons. We’ve seen them used in a very high-stakes but still confined to a city-graveyard conflict, so it’s only a matter of time til used to make a bigger one. Hopefully we’ll get more personality about them then.
