A STARCK CHAIR BROOM IS RECYCLED FROM INDUSTRIAL WASTE

Here is a few meals for thought – what if our leftovers may be turned to purposeful fixtures that looked meals? I mean desirable, that looked correct! Phillipe Starck is a French designer which means he eats simply exact meals and has managed to turn the leftovers into some certainly appropriate Starck chairs referred to as the Broom for Emeco. It is crafted from a compound of business waste from lumber factories and commercial plastic plants – 75% waste polypropylene and 15% reclaimed timber that usually ends up inside the trash. It checks all of the bins for sustainable furniture with its three-fold environmental impact – less energy, less waste, and much less carbon. “With the Broom chair, it's miles about much less and greater. We chose less – less “style”, much less “design”, much less material, much less waste, less energy. This screen print has a cool colour painted background with the black/white version I showed previously printed on top. It was made as part of the 'Chair' project for the Foundation Art and Design course that I completed at Selby College. It was a further continuation of the chair sculpture project that the "Metamorphosis" series of screen prints were also part of. We started with two wooden chairs which we then had to dismantle and reassemble together. Combining parts from each of them to make two separate sculptures that were chairlike but not functioning chairs anymore. We then took photos of these chair sculptures and used them along with the ones taken by others in the class to make a black/white composite screen print featuring 12 of the images in a grid formation. I'll be writing a blog post showing more of my work from Selby College and going into more details about them too.
