Hello, I was wondering if you have any sonic fic recommendations?

Sure! Here are a few that have left an impression on me:

led clock faces by @hetchless (WIP) Notes: I'm a big fan of the tone and rotating perspective between characters. You can tell there's a lot going on with the world-building and I'm excited to see where it goes! Every nugget of world-building or alternate characterization has me wishing for more. It's also criminally underrated, so I must express support and ask that you check it out as a fellow sci-fi AU writer.

do gems conduct electricity? and good fences make better neighbours by @chaoxfix (Complete one-shots) Do gems notes: Fascinating Rouge and Sonic character study based in an AU where Eggman used Sonic as a battery for his machines during Sonic Forces. I've been a Sonic fan for a pretty long time, but I used to not bother reading fanfiction for the series because I had always struggled to find anything appealing to me. This fanfic both convinced me to keep looking for Sonic fanfic and also pulled me back into Sonic a little bit more, which resulted in me purchasing Sonic Among Us stickers at my local anime convention. And they say fanfiction is free! Good Fences notes: Big brings Tails+Sonic soup and reflects on how the world is changing due to human colonial activity on the planet. His perspective is interesting to read through, it grants something of a layman perspective that you wouldn't get through Sonic due to how involved he is in everything. If you go into the comments, you might find me (on anon, because I hadn't committed to this account yet) gushing about how I had similar world-building perspectives in regards to Mobian-human relations. The morose take on flickies here is also very sad in a good way. Great work all around.

Clarity by @lunapegasus (Complete one-shot) Notes: Shadow wakes up with an alien third eye. A really good conversation with Omega ensues, and I literally gasped out loud at something Omega says when I read it for the first time. If you like Shadow, you should definitely read this one.

General author rec: @khalewren writes a lot of cute whispangle stories.

Unfortunately, I don't actually read that much fanfiction so I am at a loss for what else to recommend to you. I hope you check out what I've listed here nonetheless!

hey! i hope you don’t mind me asking, but do u have any fics you recommend reading? (specifically sonic fandom ones)

im so sorry anon but im probably the worst when it comes to fic recs. I just started using the bookmark function on ao3 like last month. There's probably tons of fics that i've read and absolutely loved, but never saved and are just collecting dust in my history ToT

i'm going to shout out a few of my favorite authors whose works i absolutely adore and some fics under the cut!

There's definitely more authors and fics i missed, but this is what i was able to come up with!! in general, the sonic community is full of so much talent and i'm just really happy to be here :)

@cozyqueerchaos - I love every single piece they put out honestly and these fics are the reason i dipped my toes more into the sonic fandom years ago. they're THAT good. love them all.

@phantomruby - another wonderful fic writer that everyone should check out. "Slipping Away" makes me cry fr, although i haven't caught up on the latest updates. everything just makes my heart go oshfdsfhd

@chaoxfix - sonic fics are wonderful sonic takes are top notch i dig everything. the understanding of the characters and archie is just phenomenal.

@teamxdark - fell in love with the Tales of Avalon series and fell harder in love with the team dark Boomtober fics and dynamics and aaaaaa, wonderful writing and style.

@rubyiiiusions - every fic is a joy to read and every story really just gets your attention and keeps it till the end. i've bookmarked a few of them since last week :)

I went digging through my history and here are some of my personal favorite Sonic fics!

radio silence under a yellow sky by chaox Summary: Sonic finds out Tails is missing. And more importantly, that no one's been looking for him.

A gen fic about Sonic finding out Tails was MIA during Forces it's so so good i think about it a lot

falling by sonosuke Summary: Shadow likes a boy

sonadow during SA2 I'll cry. so angsty but it makes me :')

Birds of a Feather by SonicaSpeed123 Summary: Sonic has been trapped in Camelot for three years, but he's started to make a place for himself that he can finally be comfortable in with his beloved Lancelot Something has been bothering him, though: If all the people of this world look like the people back home, where is Sonic's lookalike?

Lansoni. Part of a series of SatBK mini fics that i really love, but this one especially because it answers the question of 'what about the Sonic doppleganger?'

you can hardly swallow your fears and pain by chaox and sketchjii Summary: Shadow is usually better at putting up that cold, unfeeling front, isn't he? Or maybe that's him. (or: sonic doesn't need to be in touch with his feelings if he pretends they don't exist in the first place)

One of my all time faves i love it so much i dont think i have the right words. shadow tries to give sonic mental health advice. it does not go well. takes place some time after Forces.

the time has come again for stars by rubyillusions Summary: (five times someone notices sonic and shadow are in love and one time they do something about it)

sonadow, Teen. obsessed with how the characters are written here and the way all of their friends interpret their relationship it's just so cute and sweet and shit and i love it a lot.

against every odd by eggskie Summary: "We're friends?" Nine asks, small and timid, and oh, doesn't that break Sonic's heart. "Of course we are. We always have been. Or we always should have been." Or: Nine isn't used to being cared about

wanna see how hard i can cry? Gen, Sonic Prime fic about sonic and tails and what they should have been.

Dreams Don't Come True by Skyblaze Summary: Short, mildly humorous fic with sonadow flavouring. It also takes the mickey extensively out of the Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 Next Gen game. Warning: not to be taken seriously.

This fic is just really silly i like it a lot :)

A largely platonic cave by mousewritings Summary: "You know I uh, love hanging out with you and all, but do you think we could go somewhere that's not a cave for once?" Shadow stares at him. "What do you mean, go somewhere that's not a cave? Think you're too good for caves?"

Sonic Boom Sonic and Shadow (pre-slash sonadow) my beloveds <3<3 this fic is so funny they're so insufferable

Also, uh. I know you said only Sonic fics but i'm going to add a few more fics that i really really love from different fandoms because i reread them a lot, i hope you don't mind! ^^

Our way by shpeeper Summary: Overall, the mission was pretty simple. Sniper was instructed to track the spy for a week, figure out his daily patterns, then put a bullet in his brain when no one is around. No one told him there would be a kid. An AU in which Spy raises Scout alone, and Sniper is hired to kill Spy.

Oh my fucking god i could go on about this fic. Sniperspy, Teen, TF2. filled with action and danger. Every time a new character would get introduced, i would have fun piecing together who they were in my mind. the first chapter already had me emotional, it's been in my brain for YEARS. And don't even get me STARTED with the twist at the end. holy shit.

Desmodontinae by Romiress Summary: Kirk wakes up in a Gotham that is not his own. A what-if, where Gods and Monsters Batman winds up in the DCU. Originally intended as a short oneshot, and expanded out into a small story, exploring the differences, struggles, and conclusions. Focuses primarily on Kirk Langstrom (G&M Batman), with a side or Hernan Guerra (G&M Superman), Damian Wayne, and Bruce Wayne. Guest appearances by various other Robins, Clark and Jon Kent, and several others.

The Gods and Monsters DC team means so much to me and oh my god this fic was made with so much love and care for the characters. It's been a while since i read it, but i remember this fic had me staying up literally all night, eagerly going through all the chapters, one at a time. i was in bed kicking my sheets quietly irl lmao.

can’t believe it’s canon that the games are just based off of the characters ‘real life’ adventures

guys this legit explains weird narrative discrepancies in each game, where different POVs don’t line up. they just interviewed different characters who told biased perspectives of events.

i now have a hc that sonic does have an apartment in station square but he basically never sleeps there, maybe once a month

he instead uses it as a storage shed for all of the merch people make of him

bc whats he gonna do, turn down a really cool mural the city made in his honor? no. hes gonna put that shit up in his living room. his friends call him egotistical but jokes on them, he looks cool as hell.

he also has

a freezer full of sonic popsicles. the fucked up ones. u know. (ty @sketchjii for reminding me these exist)

a fridge full of sports drinks with his face on the label. some officially sponsored, some knockoffs with 'socin the hengehog', who is a slightly lighter blue hedgehog. he thinks its hilarious

boxes upon boxes of frozen chili dogs, from every brand deal he's ever done who promised him a lifetime supply and are starting to sweat from making good on it

hoodies for humans that imitate his look (he loves the ones with fake ears and fake gloves. they look fucking hilarious on top of his own ears and gloves)

every variation of sonic plushie ever made. especially the deformed looking ones. the ugly ones are usually from knuckles. ("got you this. its like looking in a mirror right?" "hilarious.")

a super sonic shower curtain from a then-6 year old tails to 'make him feel brave while taking a bath! :D'

his fridge door has drawings from charmy, cream, and some from tails when he was little(r)

hes got a bookcase with a bunch of books. some haunted. some not. a few scrapbooks mixed in, old textbooks tails read when he was a kid and was gonna toss out but has a lot of funny notes in the margins

he also has a trophy case to hold his many sonic & mario olympic games trophies

last i'll mention is he's even got a little eggman matryoshka doll that sits on his fridge. he just thinks its funny

if he ever dies young itll be a really fun museum exhibit. he gives one (1) apartment tour to some photographer who's way out of his depth but it's honestly kinda funny how nonchalant sonic is about all the merch of himself he collects

Hi! I remember you posted an idea of sharing sonic fic recs sometime ago, and in case you do, I think it'd be super cool! I'd love to read them!

Gotta say it's been tricky finding non-shipping fics and awesome dated fics (since ive noticed most stuff on ao3 are from movie-verse). I must find these smaller gems and give them love *shakes fist*

Sweet!! I’ll try to only do a few at a time so I don’t immediately run out as these are in kinda limited supply, but here’s 3! Don’t mind that some of them are on ff.net — Ao3 is limited so we make do, and tbh some of the older ones are still pretty damn good!

i’ll try to mix up genres and styles and friendships so there’s a little something different each time.

for this first one i’m gonna start us off with 3 really cute sonic & tails fics.

1. Two Tails and a Blur by Shizuku Tsukishima749 on ffnet — a series of sonic & tails drabbles. and i do mean drabbles in the literal sense. every chapter is right at 100 words. but there’s some really cute moments, sweet concepts, and plenty of material (…486 chapters) to find something you like.

one of my favorite sonic & tails fics! describing how sonic went from not talking to talking. cute bonding fic. sweet enough to rot teeth.

(side note: gayemeralds lowkey got me back into sonic. the lore was just too good — so expect to see something of theirs on many of these fic recs lol.)

title is pretty self explanatory, tails gets to act like the 8 year old he is. this is at 2 chapters out of 6 and might not get completed, but! the great thing about 5 + 1 fics is that each chapter can be taken independently! if anything this is two cute fics for the price of one!

for each of these, if you read them, please comment and show the writers some love! especially for the ao3 fics as these are pretty recent and the writers would probably love some attention. but even 2 tails and a blur was updated in 2019 so i’m sure the author still cares about this series. i think i myself still need to leave a comment or two on the third one, which i’m gonna do after posting this and re-reading it. 🧡
