I Believe I Can Touch the Sky: From Poverty to Prosperity in Stories
I Believe I Can Touch the Sky: From Poverty to Prosperity in Stories
I was born in rural Shelby County, in East Texas, in the 1940s, a time of rigid segregation. Parking in my hometown of 715 people was segregated by race and I went to a separate school where books and desks were hand-me-downs from the town’s white school. The first new textbook I ever laid hands on was a physics textbook in high school when the school district included physics for the first time…

CHARACTER HEADCANONS
what items can be found in your muse’s pockets?:
Not much. Probably just some random crumpled unimportant recipes. Maybe some loose change if she is in a hurry. She has a habit about throwing those kinds of things into her pockets. Everything else of real importance is carefully stowed in one of her fanny packs that she wears everywhere she goes. She doesn’t like to lose things so she doesn’t trust pockets all that much. Robin is overly careful with her belongings.

@charlesray sent … how’s my portrayal?
↳ hello yes your portrayal is flawless 🥰😍 i can hear her voice so clearly in your writing and your writing?? PHENOMENAL i love reading your things so much 🥺 you put so much depth into it and its so lovely to see!! and i just enjoy your presence on the dash too ❤
this honestly made me so emotional when i got it this morning because the number one thing i always try to do when i write her is to make sure you can definitely hear her in any dialogue i do. there’s a very distinct voice , accent , and dialect to clarice’s character. jodie and rebecca’s characterizations of her really helped me flesh that out in addition to still reading through the silence novel. i also thoroughly love looking into the psychology behind serial killers / violent criminals , so that being her job is chef kiss. i just always want to do my beloved agent justice. my shitposting hell being something you enjoy on your dash is just an added perk! 🥺

... these are not words spoken with repentance. the verbal equivalence of a shrug, vague and broad, the lingering so anticipating little in return ( spoken like adolescent grievances breathed into the air, lacking the faint softness that adulthood should bring ). the car rumbles around them, lawrence’s hands guiding the steering wheel gently ... this is all muscle memory : the driving, the conversation, the thin veneer of interest held in the other’s words. the hitchhiker, however, is rather new.
‘ you were really that far down america? you must’ve travelled a long way to end up here ... and you don’t exactly look as if you’re done travelling. ’ doctorly interest, warm interest : he is learning to practice care ( kramer’s creed placed into actions, into movement, an act of kindness spared towards a stranger ). ‘ what was your name again? ’
@charlesray ... “okay it was me… so?”
