part of the problem was that he'd grown so comfortable with shasti that he spoke to her like he would any of his teammates, or other friends close to him without consideration. it was hard for him to reckon with the thought that shasti could have a crush on him with all that she knew about him and what he got up to, especially while on the road. ‘ yeah, i can do that. ’ might slip up on occasion and start to tell her before back tracking, but he didn't want to make things any harder than they had to be. would rather be friends with her and maintain their relationship than go somewhere that they couldn't come back from, and then experience a loss. ‘ do you want me to hook you up with one of my friends ? not a teammate. ’
