Together we can STOP Child Labour! đâ
Child labour is a violation of human rights and can have detrimental effects on the physical, mental, spiritual, moral, or social development of children.
It often involves long hours, dangerous working conditions, and little or no pay. Children who are forced to work like slaves and often denied the opportunity to attend school and receive an education, which can lead to a lifetime of poverty and hardship. đŤ
Child labour can also perpetuate the cycle of poverty and social inequality. Therefore, it is important to stop child labour to protect children and promote their well-being.
Note: All work done by children under the age of 15 and dangerous work done by children under the age of 18 is illegal.
Child labour exists because: âž People accept it and often invent excuses for it. âž Childrenâs rights are not accepted. Governments fail to provide compulsory, free, and accessible education. âž International agreements and conventions are ignored. âž The education system fails to include poor and vulnerable children. âž Companies worldwide demand cheap labour. âž Countries can benefit from cheap labour. âž Children are a soft target for a helping hand. âž We have not done enough to stop it.
Letâs take an oath, Child-Labour is a crime and we wonât support: https://bit.ly/3H87PiZ

Amazon's investment in child privacy: $25 million. Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce platform, has agreed to pay $25 million to settle allegations that it collected and stored children's sensitive information in violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. The decision is part of a push for increased regulation of these platforms to better protect young users. Personal information collected from children during interactions with Alexa, Amazon's voice-activated virtual assistant, is at the center of the case. Regulators pointed out that Amazon kept Alexa voice recordings of young users indefinitely and used the data for business purposes, such as training algorithms to understand children. This violated the COPPA law, which requires companies to obtain parental consent before collecting personal information from children under 13, and to allow parents to delete their children's data. Furthermore, Amazon was criticized for failing to completely delete Alexa's conversations with children from all of its databases when parents tried to delete their children's voice recordings. This is a big lesson for Amazon: it sends a message that all tech companies need to take responsibility for children's privacy and be more transparent and proactive with both parents and children.
Children's privacy: a global concern Amazon's case illustrates the growing awareness of the importance and legal obligation to protect children's privacy around the world. As technology platforms around the world collect and utilize more and more information, the Amazon case serves as a reminder that protecting children and young people online is not just about surveillance or restrictions, but about ensuring that their information, especially their personal information, is properly protected and used. The online privacy of children and young people complicates these issues of transparency and respect. However, as we see companies like Amazon acknowledging their legal responsibilities and making improvements, we can take heart from the positive message that commitment to children and young people's online safety is strengthening globally. These positive changes are important steps in creating a transparent and safe digital environment for future generations.Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done. But if we all become more aware, more involved, and more committed to keeping children and young people safe online, we can give them a brighter digital future. In closing, I would like to emphasize that we must all work together to ensure that the next generation of digital natives grow up in a safe and free internet environment.

Protecting Our Children: Online Grooming

Identifying and Preventing Online Grooming The digital age has brought with it countless benefits, but it also presents new dangers for our children. Among these threats is the risk of online grooming, a harrowing reality that affects many young people worldwide. In this supportive and empathic guide, we will explore the signs of online grooming, discuss what to do if you suspect a child is being groomed, and provide valuable resources for both US and UK audiences. Understanding the Threat of Online Grooming Online grooming occurs when an individual builds an emotional connection with a child to gain their trust, to exploit them sexually or traffic them. This process often takes place on social media platforms, gaming sites, chatrooms, and mobile apps. According to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), one in nine children have experienced grooming online. Recognizing the Signs of Online Grooming To protect our children, it's essential to be aware of the warning signs of online grooming. Some of these indicators may include: - The child becoming secretive about their online activities - Spending an increased amount of time online or on their devices - Receiving gifts, money, or other items from unknown individuals - Displaying mood swings, emotional distress, or changes in behaviour - Engaging in sexualized conversations or sharing explicit content online What to Do If You Suspect a Child Is Being Groomed Online If you suspect that a child may be experiencing online grooming, it's crucial to take the following steps: Step 1: Open Communication Initiate a conversation with the child about their online activities. Approach the topic with sensitivity, understanding, and support. If they are hesitant to discuss the matter, avoid applying pressure. Instead, reassure them that you are available to listen whenever they feel comfortable sharing. Step 2: Seek Professional Support If you have concerns about a child's safety, contact the NSPCC helpline. This service offers round-the-clock assistance for adults worried about a child's welfare. Trained counsellors can provide guidance and support tailored to your specific situation. Step 3: Report Your Suspicions to Law Enforcement If you believe that a crime has been committed or that a child is in immediate danger, contact your local police department or the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). Reporting these incidents is crucial for ensuring the child's safety and bringing the perpetrators to justice. Educating Children About Online Safety An essential aspect of protecting our children from online grooming is educating them about internet safety. Encourage open dialogue with your child about their online experiences and teach them how to recognize potential threats. Some key points to discuss may include: - The importance of setting privacy settings on social media accounts and gaming platforms - The risks associated with sharing personal information online - How to identify and report inappropriate behaviour or content - The significance of trusting their instincts when interacting with others online - Reminding them that they can always turn to a trusted adult for help or advice Conclusion Online grooming is a pervasive issue that requires our attention and action. By recognizing the signs of grooming, maintaining open communication with our children, and seeking professional support when needed, we can help protect them from these insidious threats. Remember, you are not alone in this fight â there are resources available to assist you in safeguarding your child's well-being. Read the full article

https://bit.ly/42uMOax - đ˘ A municipal cyber security officer, Jeremy Froias, was arrested recently for secretly installing a camera in a cruise ship bathroom. He is accused of collecting footage of around 150 people, including 40 minors, on the Royal Caribbean Cruise ship Harmony of the Seas. #CyberSecurity #PrivacyInvasion đ¸ The FBI has charged Froias with video voyeurism and attempted possession of child exploitation material. The agency believes Froias primarily targeted cruise ship passengers who used a specific public bathroom on the ship between April 30 and May 1, 2023. #FBI #ChildSafety đą Evidence from the Wi-Fi camera footage appears to show Froias installing it and linking it to his phone. His activities came to light when a vigilant passenger noticed the camera and alerted the crew. Froias confessed to installing the camera during an interview on May 1. #DigitalSafety #CruiseShip Froias was arrested in Puerto Rico and appeared for a detention hearing. A federal judge set a $25,000 bond and release conditions that included wearing an electronic monitoring device, surrendering his passport, and not having unsupervised contact with minors. #LawEnforcement #ChildProtection đ˘ Froias, who had been an employee of Kissimmee, Florida, since 2004, had his employment terminated following the incident. His attorney stated that no formal charges have been filed as of yet. #EmploymentLaw #WorkplaceEthics đ˘ Royal Caribbean confirmed the incident aboard the Harmony of the Seas, stating that local and federal law enforcement were promptly notified, and the involved guest was removed from the ship. However, passengers complained about not being informed about the hidden camera. #CruiseShipSafety #RoyalCaribbean đĽ The FBI has provided a form for potential victims of Froias to fill out. They may be eligible for certain services, restitution, and rights under federal and/or state law. Inquiries about the case can be sent to [email protected]. #VictimSupport #JusticeForVictims đš A recent study cited by an Audacy article highlights the concerning frequency of hidden camera sightings in vacation rentals, with one in four respondents reporting such a discovery.

I've been writing this for a long time, on and off, and I've got a way to go yet. It's an autobiographical book about my experiences adopting when we already had a birth child. I have ummed and ahhed about whether I should share my story with the world, and how to do so without sharing too much about my son's story. I've found a balance that I'm comfortable with now, and I'm on a roll. I think I will be ready to share the book with the world in a few months, but we'll see! Sometimes after an emotional chapter, I need a break from it, so I work on one of my children's books. I always have a few on the go, and I switch between them when I need a break from one. This is the draft cover, and I kind of love it. That rocking chair has been a part of a lot of special memories. â¤ď¸ I hope this book will be a useful tool for adopters and prospective adopters who have birth children. You can follow me on Amazon or sign up to my extremely infrequent mailing list on my website (hollymarlow.com) if you would like to be notified when the book is released. đđ . #adoption #adoptionafterbirth #adoptionafterabirthchild #adoptionafterabiologicalchild #adoptionwithbirthchildren #adoptivefamily #fosteringfebruary #adopting #adoptionprep #adoptionprocess #adopter #adoptingababy #adoptioncommunity #adoptioncommunityuk #adoptionresources #socialworktoolkit #socialworkresources #socialworkreadinglist #socialworkreads #childprotection #socialworker #childsocialworker #socialworklife #prospectiveadoptiveparents #prospectiveadopters #prospectiveadoptivefamily https://www.instagram.com/p/CpBIHpMMW-W/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Monthly Roundup January 2023
Your Red Hand counts!
"Red Hand Day (February 12th) and the campaign to stop the use of child soldiers [have existed] for over 15 years. Hundreds and thousands of handprints have been collected in more than 50 countries and handed over to politicians and to responsible parties, including UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. There is progress, but there are still 250,000 child soldiers in the world."
Help to stop this abuse of children. Show your Red Hand to the world!
Our demands:
Straight 18: No child under the age of 18 may be used or trained in armies, armed groups or other military units
Punishment of those responsible
Care, protection and political asylum for former child soldiers
Expand financial support for aid programs for child soldiers
Stop of arms exports
Promotion of peace education
Stay tuned over the next week as the Dallaire Institute shares highlights of this important initiative and ways you can #RaiseYourRed to help end the practice of children being recruited and used as soldiers.

From child soldiers to carpenters in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
"To mark IVD 2022, UN Volunteers lend support to APROJED under the Actions and Projects for Sustainable Development, an organization in Turunga, a Nyiragongo municipality on the outskirts of Goma.
This organization houses a training facility formed in 2006. Here, former child soldiers and vulnerable children are taught practical life skills, such as carpentry. So far, this training facility has trained and imparted vocational training to more than 600 children."
26 minutes: counting down for elephant conservation
"Every 26 minutes, on average, one African elephant dies for its ivory. This gloomy statistic is fueled by rampant poaching, by the land and water shortages that drive tense conflicts between people and animals, and by the stifling threats of climate change.
Yet, working together, we can achieve wonders in 26 minutes. Thatâs how long it takes for IFAW and our conservation partners to protect the life of an African elephant through the complex process of translocation, or movement from one place to another."
