there’s one thing to say about chloe first and foremost.  she’s easy to spot in a crowd.  all legs and jawline,  high  &.  powdered cheekbones,  perhaps the most prominent figure of modern beauty sid’s seen in recent years.  young woman also carries the eyes of many,  many men;  though their gaze flickers and floats,  begging to go unnoticed.  it’s the sort of attention sid fought for most of her life,  tooth and claw,  to the height of the totem pole.  even still,  there’s a part of her that immediately sees  &.  immediately resents in toxic and embarrassing  why can’t i have that?  fashion.  the sort of dialogue she doesn’t give into these days.    this is what she gives into instead:  the second thought bubble.  that,  as sid approaches the table in the cosy corner  (  she’d have chosen the center )  and grabs her new friend’s attention with a wave,  there’s something more pressing than how many view chloe vs.  how many view sid.    what sid decides matters is that growing smile on chloe’s face when eye contact is made,  a smile that makes her think.  geez,  she looks like a different person on her day off.   with a sub-thought,  i wonder how often she gets them.         sid pulls chloe in for a hug,  but she’s never the type for hellos  &.  other such nonsense.  nose-dive into conversation.  “   just a forewarning,  i’m on the mocktail train tonight,  my love;  i’m up at four.  “  sid pulls a face,  which is quick to collapse into a grin.  “  but don’t let that stop you from goin' crazy.  “

He wasn’t able to focus on anything else all day no matter how hard he’d tried. His mind would always return to Chloe, to the son who didn’t even know he was his father, to the uncertainty of what the future may hold. He tried to redirect his mind and concentrate on work instead, tried to bury himself in it so he wouldn’t overthink but it was pointless, as he’d come to realize.
Evening came and he was early, picking a table at the coffee shop and taking a seat; green eyes flickered from the clock on the wall to the digital one on his phone’s screen, leg bouncing up and down faster by the second - impatient and nervous. What if he’s still not good enough? What if Chloe takes Connor away for good? All the what if’s haunting him, torturing until the chime announces a new arrival and Kip glances up, clumsily standing as he spots Chloe. “Chloe, hey.” He attempts to get her attention, clearing his throat.

who: @chlxe-granger where: sun’s diner
Gabriel had still managed to miraculously drag himself out of the bed and clean himself up before heading to town. He was still not accustomed to Phoenix, and obviously needed his GPS not to get lost, but he still enjoyed the view. It was not bad at all, probably even a bit better than Sacramento. Or maybe it was the change of landscape that made it more enjoyable? So, here he was, walking into Sun’s dinner, his Ray Ban glasses stuck to his face with no intention of removing them for now. He was hungover, felt miserable, and the lightning of the restaurant made him feel like he’d melt down in the middle of the place.
It seemed like a nice place, though, not too crowded, or maybe he had arrived just at the right time to be in peace. Usually, Gabriel liked the company of people. He rejoiced in jam-packed venues, but right now he liked the near silent room. His gaze searched for an hostess, a waitress, someone to place him, and quickly his eyes were set on a brunette who seemed familiar. His first guess was to blame the lack of sleep, or the headache, but as he stepped closer, he blinked and quickly realized that the woman in front of him was actually who he thought she was. “Dear God, I thought I was having hallucinations, but apparently it’s just a huge fucking coincidence.” He addressed her with a laugh. “How are you doing Catherine – Or was it Chloe, I’m so awful with names, damnit. It’s been a very long time.”

“And we’re going to turn, turn, turn, until the bolt is nice and tight.” Liam stated just as he placed the wrench where it needed to be, and continued to tighten it, his nephew growing closer, as he intensely watched his uncle work. “Hand me that rag, Con.” He spoke after a moment, looking over his shoulder in the direction of the item; Connor then running to it, and back to his uncle in what seemed like a spilt second. Dropping the wrench, Liam grabbed the rag, only to be distracted by the squeak of Connor. “Mom!”
Turning slightly, Liam’s eyes fell upon his sister pulling up; this telling him that her shift at the diner must be over. Wiping his greasy hands off with the rag, getting quite little off, before tossing the item to the side. He watched as his nephew ran off towards his mother, a soft smile appearing upon Liam’s features. A few seconds, later, he, himself headed towards his sister. “Hey, I know it’s early, but are you planning on dressing up for Halloween?” Liam asked, arching a brow in curiosity. Connor would cut them both off, “We went to the Halloween store today, mom! It was so cool!”

It was an hour before Everett's shift started. Being a firefighter meant you had all different kinds of hours, however you mostly stayed at the firehouse throughout the whole day and night, practically living there and in all honesty, Everett didn't mind it one bit. Sure he had a home that he loved, but truly the fire station was his home. However for this morning, Everett decided to have Chloe over for breakfast and it's been quite some time since the two have done that. The breakfast date, well it wasn't a date, but the breakfast date was much overdue and here Everett was making everything that Chloe loved to eat. He wasn't the best cook, but he took on the cooking at the station every once in a while and people seemed to love it. Standing in his kitchen, Everett heard the door knock and he yelled "Come in Chlo! It's open." Holding the frying pan, he threw some vegetables in there and put the stove on simmer and walked over to the front door. He smiled and shook his head “Hi. I hope youre hungry.”

some would say it’s strange.  sitting alone?   at this hour,  mothers put their fussy children to bed,  curl up beside their spouse.   once she herself was warmly situated in the equation.  but now... well, sydney has no shame,  earpods singing to her from yesterday decades.  her fingers busy the laptop’s keyboard.  ironically,  business acts as a vacation away from her brain.  but tonight?  the owner’s youth piques sid’s attention.   the woman never stands still,  handles the odd drifter with traditional courtesy,  and gives sydney the space she came here for.    but plans change.   closing her laptop shut, the brunette slips it into her bag with no intention of leaving.  never much of a cook herself,  she figures she may as well grab something before kitchen closes.         “  what’s your favourite on the menu ?  ---  i’ll get two of 'em.  “ one for sid and one for sydney.    what?  dinner and midnight snack.
