First day of Christmas : the Mari Lwyd
5 years ago during 12 days til Christmas (even if actually the Twelve Days of Christmas take place between December 25th and January 6th but I wanted it to end with Christmas and not the Epiphany) I had drawn several classic Christmas figures. Welp never mind this year I do it again because as you can guess there aren't just 12 emblematic figures for a holiday as known and celebrated across the world ! We start with the Mari Lwyd, a Welsh tradition quite seedy but funny at once consisting in showing around a horse skull decorated with a white sheet, ribbons and flowers from door to door and make it sing a little song asking in. The purpose is refusing in a song using every argument and excuse possible, to which it will reply etc like a battle. If we win, it leaves. If we fail, it comes in and we have to offer it a drink, or rather to the man who carries it. I do kinda picture him/it drunk as hell at the end of the day

King Charles broke tradition by delivering an “important” hidden message
King Charles has broken tradition by hiding one detail in the background of this year’s Christmas speech.
Just recently, a still image from this year’s broadcast has surfaced on the internet, which captures the King’s second festive speech during his reign. The image shows that the speech, produced by ITN, was filmed in the Central Room at Buckingham Palace.
The Central Room, located in the East Wing, overlooks the balcony of Buckingham Palace, which overlooks the Victoria Memorial and Mall, where crowds gathered to celebrate May’s coronation.
King Charles included a hidden detail in the background of this year’s Christmas speech – a live Christmas tree. It is the first time a live Christmas tree has been included in a royal Christmas speech.

A Scottish Photo Feast for St. Andrew's Day
I’m just returned from a long trip to Scotland, during which I took hundreds of photographs, and today marks the feast of the Scottish patron Saint Andrews, so that’s the post! I promise more substantive essays in the future, but I have re-entered at the busiest time of the semester and my Salem’s Centuries manuscript is due in just over a month, so these photos will have to suffice for now. We…

Happy Boxing Day
I would like to remind you that the man who takes credit for Brexit (Raheem J. Kassam) is an avid Trump supporter. Overturn Brexit now.
Dear Anonymous,
That's truly an unfortunate connection, but we mustn't mistake the part for the whole.
Best of the season.. and please don't block me.

Sunday Stamps: Christmas
Germany – 2023 Squirrels in the Snow Christmas Stamp. What is particularly special about the “Squirrel in the Snow” stamp is that its motif was determined for the first time in a public survey. Back in May of 2023, Deutsche Post asked its customers and stamp enthusiasts what motif they would like to have as a Christmas stamp. There were eight different suggestions to choose from with familiar…
