RAFAEL CASAL WITH FRANKLIN LEONARD -SCREENWRITER’S SALON (2024)

The SCREENWRITER’S SALON was a night of beauty. Made some exciting announcements that we will make public soon. So profoundly love being with my arts community in the Bay, we are so powerful together. S/o to the great @franklinjleonard for coming and infusing our local screenwriting scene with his wisdom and guidance.

A number of folks came up and told me that these salons have lead to meaningful writing partnerships, producing collaborations, and new projects. That’s what I want - folks to build teams around scripts. Even just for meaningful feedback. The amount of talent in the room is undeniable, but so many of us are searching for structure, guidance, accountability, opportunity and mastery. We get there TOGETHER, not alone.

Events like this take so much community volunteer collaboration and donation of not only time but resources. Want to show you just how many folks came together out of pure love to make this possible:

Wow wow wow… where do I even begin. @hueman_ you are such an amazing artist and you inspire me so much in depth you may not even realize. It’s still so crazy to think that I may had never met you if we hadn’t accidentally become roommates over a decade ago lol. “Sadly most installation galleries nowadays are just instagram opportunities and quick cash grabs” I couldn’t agree more to your words at the opening night but seeing that there can be people that create True art without having to compensate their quality and beauty truly gives me so much hope. Hope you had a restful Thursday 💛 As an independent artist and small biz owner, the idea of capitalism after a day of mourning is really complicated because according to some it’s unwise to not take part in the discount frenzy. Every year I reevaluate my participation that make sense to me and to a point where it still aligns with my values. It’s already a huge burnt out working shows after shows every weekend since the start of November to makeup for the lost of income due to COVID. So why be another #blackfridaysales pitch in your overflowing inboxes and feed? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want you to know that BGG is still here if you need to get a gift, but I’m bloody aware to not promote overconsumption of things we don’t need. Until you walk in her shoes You don’t know the challenges she has faced, the set backs, the falls, the heart ache, the gains & the wins. I had the honor & privilege to capture a womxn workshop over the weekend put on by @leannahlumauig & @gofitjo I got to witness complete strangers allow themselves to be vulnerable with each other about their lives. It was very powerful and at times I had to hold back some of my tears because then I wouldn’t be able to see through my camera 😉 It was really amazing being able to capture these special raw moments. The biggest take away for me was realign that: This life is a journey and no matter what it looks like or how it feels, you are not alone.
