Neue Arbeitsgewohnheiten, neue Tischplatten
Ich hole in dem Coworkingspace, in dem ich seit Anfang 2020 nicht mehr gearbeitet habe, meine Post ab. Es gibt neue Tischplatten. Mein Vermieter hat die meisten Möbel in diesem Coworkingspace aus Baustellenholz selbst gebaut.

So sah der Tisch im Hintergrund (und der Vermieter im Vordergrund) 2015 aus. Man kann die Dimensionen der Tischplatte zwar hier nicht erkennen, ich glaube aber, es sind zwei von den sichtbaren Baustellenbrettern. Damit wäre der Tisch ungefähr so tief, wie die zwei Beine in der Mitte breit sind, also vielleicht dreißig Zentimeter.
Der Vermieter erklärt: Wir brauchen jetzt mehr Platz auf den Tischen, weil viele Leute nicht mehr einfach nur ihren Laptop aufklappen, sondern eigene Monitore mitbringen.

Die neue Arbeitssituation: Hölzernes Laptop-Aufstelldings, separater Zweitmonitor, eins von mehreren Luftfiltergeräten aus Covid-Gründen. Nur die Lampe ist noch dieselbe wie auf dem Bild von 2015.

In dieser Ansicht sieht man einen weiteren Monitor, der aber wahrscheinlich zum Nachbararbeitsplatz gehört. Er wird auf traditionelle Art durch ein dickes Buch aus dem O’Reilly Verlag auf ergonomische Höhe gebracht. Im Vordergrund eine Maus, mehrere Laptop-Netzteile und der für mich überraschende VGA-Anschluss des Monitors. Ich habe zuletzt um 2008 so ein Flachdisplay besessen und hätte erwartet, dass sie inzwischen andere Anschlüsse haben. Haben sie wahrscheinlich auch, ich nehme an, es handelt sich um ein altes Gerät.
Die neuen Tischplatten sind nur etwa zehn Zentimeter tiefer als die alten, aber wahrscheinlich reicht das. Die zusätzlichen Monitore werden nicht jeden Tag zur Arbeit mitgebracht, sie gehören Leuten, die hier regelmäßig arbeiten. Ob sie über Nacht einfach auf den Tischen bleiben, die ja nicht fest vermietet sind, sondern flexibel genutzt werden sollen, weiß ich nicht. Dazu war ich zu lange nicht mehr da.
Beim Schreiben dieses Beitrags zögere ich jedesmal, ob ich wirklich “Monitor” schreiben kann. In meinem Kopf ist ein Monitor immer noch ein klobiger Röhrenmonitor. Das Wort hat so eine eingebaute Schwere für mich, es passt nicht zu den leichten flachen Geräten. In der Zeit, als man noch klarstellen musste, dass man nicht von einem Röhrenmonitor redete, sagten wir “Flachdisplay”. Ich arbeite seit 2008 nur noch am Laptop (ohne separaten Monitor) und hatte deshalb schon lange keinen Anlass mehr, über diese Dinger zu sprechen. Vorsichtshalber sehe ich auf der Website eines großen Elektronikmarkts nach dem aktuellen Sprachgebrauch. Das Ergebnis ist eindeutig: Es heißt immer noch Monitor.
