Cisco’s most efficient Catalyst Switch - 2960-XR

Cisco has brought new inventions into their existing 2000 series model switches, they have unveiled a new version in the category of Catalyst Switches which are the 2960-X and 2960-XR, both have doubled the stacking capacity in ports, bandwidth, buffers and CPU performance compared to their predecessors the 2960-S series.

2960-X and XR are available in 2 specifications 24 and 48 port models. These switches are the next generation of Cisco switches which are more intelligent and power saving machines as it complies with the standards of IEEE energy efficient Ethernet along with Cisco’s wise energy software installed in the switches. Cisco claims that the switches can save around 80% of energy compared to its rival models.

The per port energy consumption is nearly half than the previous Cisco 2000 series switches. It has intelligent system that powers down the links that are not active and hibernate during the downtime which is ‘downlink mode’.

Cisco 2960-X switches can be stacked up to connect with the previous 2960-S. It also supports the Power over Ethernet ‘PoE’ and ‘PoE+’. Cisco 2960-X and XR switches are workable on layer 3 routing like the RIP, EIGRP and OSPF.
