Design Archive: Last week, we posted a watercolor by Charles Burchfield framed in our Skaneateles moulding. This design is one of three related profiles named for three of the Finger Lakes, an area that was familiar to one of our designers. The other two profiles are Cayuga and Seneca (to come next). Of course, the size of the profile corresponds to the size of the lake! Skan, as we call it, is the smallest. Shown here: the Skaneateles profile in aluminum clad over maple; a combed gesso variation; and a mahogany variation. #BarkFrameworks #woodworking #woodwork #framedesign #skaneateles #fingerlakes #claddedframes #customframes #woodshop #NYCframer #aluminumframes #customframernyc https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf40rrnFkOG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

(2/2) A detail of the zinc clad Degas frame. We cast and silvered the mirror, which is about 1” thick, in our shop. #degas #framedesign #wododworl #metalframes #claddedframes #barkframeworks #irvingpenn #surfaces #texture #zinc #interiordesign #interiordecor https://www.instagram.com/p/CcV60CHFkAs/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Edgar Degas sketched many frame profiles during his lifetime, yet many were never produced until we decided to build them. Here, a mirror frame we made from the artist's sketchbook of 1878-79. The frame is zinc-clad with a patinated finish. We developed the surface treatment at the request of photographer Irving Penn, who asked for a frame that resembled Paris rooftops. For more information and pricing on our custom mirror frames, click the link in our bio. The framing of photography, from its earliest days to present, is a specialty of ours. Here, a frame we designed for a black and white image of the Manhattan skyline. The frame is aluminum-clad maple with a patina and flat lacquer finish. Though barely 8" tall, the piece makes a big impact. #FramedByBark #aluminumframes #photography #barkframeworks #customframer #nycskyline #specialmilling #claddedframes #blackandwhitephoto #prints #newyork
