How to Survive End of Year Testing

I have been working as a ClassFlow Ambassador over the past year and I have really enjoyed how much it has pushed me to find ways to incorporate ClassFlow in the classroom in different ways. We have so many teachers using it now and it has quickly become my "go to" resource for delivering interactive content to students. One of my requirements as an Ambassador is to write a monthly blog post for their ClassFlow Blog (they have a bunch of teacher Ambassadors from across grade levels and disciplines who also write articles...and I find them super helpful). In this month's blog post I wrote about ways you can survive testing season. I tried to put in some useful tips, tricks, and links that I used in the classroom when I hit testing season (for us in SC we have five days spread over two weeks). Every day, technology innovations transform the way people learn and how educators teach. In the last few years, the edtech field has attracted a lot of talented people, all with excellent knowledge bases and ideas. Though the edtech industry has been around for a few decades now, the last few years, in particular, have seen a surge in investment from both school districts and investors.

The education market is currently worth around $5 trillion globally, and it is forecasted that edtech investment alone will reach $300 billion by the year 2025. This growing investment into edtech start-ups has created some exciting changes in the world of education. Naturally, with increasing capital, the number of edtech companies, products, and thought leaders is also growing. In that spirit of change and innovation, we present the 5th Annual Tech Edvocate Awards.

After 4 months of hard work, we’ve narrowed down the year’s top edtech companies, products, people and more. We solicited nominees from readers in June/July and held online voting from May 1, 2021 – July 31, 2021. The nominee’s performance during the online voting period was used to gauge their popularity, but in no way signaled that they would become a finalist or walk away with an award. Blog 9  How can technology aid learning and assessment?

Technology can be used to support assessment in many different ways; such as to track student progress over time. However, perhaps even more compelling, edtech can also be used to aid formative assessment; helping to boost engagement, identify knowledge gaps, and support further/deeper learning.

Here are just some of the ways that edtech can be used to aid learning and assessment in the classroom:

Increase flexibility

Cloud-based learning provides increased flexibility, with pupils able to access and complete online assessments at a time that best suits their individual learning style and needs. All they need is an internet ready device and a web-based or virtual environment. With personalised learning shown to motivate students into becoming investors in their own education, this approach is becoming increasingly popular here in the UK.

Improve feedback

Cloud-based edtech such as ClassFlow, allows teachers to assess student comprehension in the moment of learning, with real-time assessments and instant polling. By immediately identifying and addressing any gaps in knowledge, educators can then tailor their lessons to the real needs of each pupil.

So im watching videos about classflow and it does actually seem to have a lot of potential, once you get past what seems like a steep learning curve. It actually seems more akin to nearpod than activinspire. One guy did mention annotating on cards at one point, but i cant seem to find any videos on that??? Im thinking maybe the annotating part has to be done with the Desktop app, and is not actually a feature on the actual presentations? But thats not what i came here to mention. What I wanted to mention is that I just watched a presentation on how to use ClassFlow... that was presented using PowerPoint.

Test Prep Practice - 3rd Grade Math

I have been working as a ClassFlow Ambassador this year which means I have been getting a lot of practice using the site to make lessons! I have been working with some of the teachers in my district helping with test prep. I just finished putting together a series of five "lessons" that are designed to be test prep practice for our third graders. Each "lesson" has 12 test like questions which gives students practice in subtraction with regrouping, rounding, multiplication, measurement, and fractions. All together there are 60 practice questions. The reason for this push is that our state will be going to mandatory computerized state testing next year with the option to begin this year. We took that option (as we are a 1:1 district). These "lessons" (I am putting quotes around them because they are more practice then lesson...but the system calls them lessons) are designed to expose students to computerized test questions in math. ClassFlow is free to use (you have to make an account) and allows you to deliver interactive lessons to students on their devices (so they can respond on their tablets and iPads). If you are a 1:1 district I would definitely check it out. Here is a link to all 5 math practice sets for anyone wanting to check them out and use them.
