A lot has changed in the past three years...

I guess this will be a mom blog now 😂 For those who don’t know me (everyone on here). Hi I’m 21 (turning 22 Tuesday ♊️) and in three years time I met my husband, got engaged, had a miscarriage, I had my rainbow baby!, and then I got married. It’s been a lot of ups and downs. My husband has spinal muscular atrophy, and my son was born with a cleft lip/palete.

We just went through our first surgery at the end of April to repair our sons lip. It turned out beautifully. Our next surgery is in November.

Being a mother and a wife are two of my proudest accomplishments. I love my boys very much. But life is rough, as is with everyone. This blog is for me to be the real me. My raw unedited life and the struggles that come along with being a young wife/mother duo. So stick around to see how it plays out... or don’t that’s up to you ✌🏻

cLEfT’s Fix This! Cleft Lip and/or Palate is a birth defect that can be detected while a baby is still in the womb. Why does this happen? The CDC has reported on important findings from research studies about some factors that increase the chance of having a baby with an orofacial cleft:

1. Smoking during pregnancy

2. Diabetes―Women with diabetes diagnosed before pregnancy have an increased risk of having a child with a cleft lip with or without cleft palate and

3. Use of certain medicines

Always consult with your obstetrician if you feel your bae bae is at a higher risk of this birth defect. Make sure to get your 20 week ultrasound, because the sooner this could be detected, the sooner you can take a constructive approach which would consist of educating yourself about this birth defect and per the Craniofacial Association recommends treatment and services by a Cleft and Cratioteam. Cleft and craniofacial teams provide a coordinated approach to care for children with orofacial clefts. These teams usually consist of experienced and qualified physicians and health care providers from different specialties that in almost all cases will need surgical intervention. The best thing you can do as a parent is use this time to find a Cleft and Cranioteam that you feel the most comfortable with. Shop around!

Hazel cleft update... I cried a lot today.

Hazel has lost weight since her ear infection diagnosis 10 days ago. Down 5oz 3 months old and only weighs 8lbs 1oz 😩. Because of this weight loss, she's been sick fighting the ear infection and teething, they have to postpone the surgery until she's 12-13 months unless by 6 months she's back on the growth curve for her age. And even then it will only be at 11 months, I was really hoping to have it done around 9 months. It's really not that big of a deal when she gets the surgery, it's why they have to postpone it. Mom guilt is in full flare. I am trying so hard to get her to take her bottles every 2-2.5 hours but she refuses it sometimes. Plus being sick makes it hard for someone who doesn't have a separation of nose and mouth to eat when mucous is just everywhere. BUT a big plus! The slow weight gain is NOT cleft related. The doctor watched her eat and he told me it's not her eating pattern, she looks like she eats like a champ! I told them that with Lillian at four months she was only 9lbs, they felt more comfortable with Hazel's progress because a sibling had a similar thing with weight, but want her to get back on the charts before we can proceed with the correction.

My Maxine is 1 year old today. You all have shared so much love for her this past year. I often scroll back and read through your comments. I get emotional and overwhelmed by the thought that so many people, who have never met her, have poured out their love for her through Instagram. We were able to use it on some of the hospital bills like the labs snd meds👌🏻 Hoho. Now, we got to use it mostly on their food. Specially when we dine 😜 For those who are not aware, gabbie's cleft condition made her legible for PWD id for her speech impairment, jacob's adhd for his learning/communication disability. Right now jacob undergoes Occupational and speech therapy once a week. Gabbie would probably need speech therapy too after her palate surgery☺
