My favoured brushes for live work - for the last ten years or so - have been the Vic Firth Live Wires. To quote - "A retractable wire brush featuring heavy gauge wire with a small, round bead on the tip of each strand. For an added sharp snap on cymbals and drums. - from vicfirth.com. This is purely a volume thing. Given the choice I prefer the Heritage Brush - I play much more expressively with them. So this time I decided to use them to play a whole gig. I’m so pleased I did. The experience was far more satisfying. The vintage set of Ludwig brushes were very similar to play. The only thing I do need to do is fix the heritage so they have a narrower spread, which the Ludwigs already have. #Slingerlandfloortomrestoration So, wrapping the bass drum... After a ton of head scratching and a lot of swearing I finally figured the shell is roughly 8mm out of round and because of this the arseing wrap doesn't fit correctly, but, I have overcome. Shiny Pearl Rhythm Traveler kit I used last night @jadiband2017 ' s successful first gig at the Old Hare and Hounds. I really enjoyed playing this drum set again - used it for years with Mick Ridgway's Mojo Hand in small venues. Always drew attention for its compact size but great sound. As it did tonight. @codedrumheads made the best of the kit. Possibly need to reposition the felt strips to reduce the damping on the twenty by eight bass drum. Didn't have time to alter it as we had to set up fast with no soundcheck due to the footie. Oh well, it happens.
