oh that is interesting! sounds very promising.
“SDR Color Intensity” is inspired by the color slider on the Steam Deck. For sRGB applications it scales the color gamut up to (at 100%) rec.2020, or more simply put, it makes the colors of non-HDR apps more intense, to counteract the bad gamut mapping many HDR displays do and make colors of SDR apps look more like when HDR is disabled
I guess this goes some way to answering why colour accuracy for SDR content was so dodge when I turned on HDR on windows (which lacks such a slider, just a brightness slider). "the bad gamut mapping many HDR displays do" is big oof but also explains a lot. the mathematics for colour space transformation is pretty well-defined, so if hardware is implementing them incorrectly, that's really frustrating. older screens are working with standards that predate the idea of colour management, but now we're bringing in all these new display signalling standards (PQ and all that), it seems like a golden opportunity to do things properly this time... so of course we don't lmao.
the colorimeter I got has an option for high brightness/HDR screens, but I haven't really tested it yet. 'measure your screen colorimetrically and compensate in software' works decently well in SDR land, but I'm not sure what happens in HDR. I haven't played any HDR-enabled games since I got this colour accuracy bug, so I haven't had cause to try and figure out the ins and outs of it yet.
it seems like KDE intend to be a lot less black-box about it than Microsoft, which is very welcome.

ive had "guy who has had an unrealistic number of different jobs" in my bio for ages but just now i was reminded about when i interned in an immunology lab and was joking about how, look yes im primarily a programmer but things like that (the bio lab background) and that i've worked on Arduino stuff/actual electronics at least a little bit, even though i was a software guy on that project and not a hardware guy (this was in the shark tagging lab), this is all because being solely a programmer is not enough to actually satisfy my obsession w cybernetic brain implants (for straightforwardly villainous purposes).
you also have to be a neuroscientist and an biomedical engineer. ye i am a programmer because it's the easiest to do without additional formal education but the other stuff i just have to run around collecting relevant experience from the various gigs i've had. so it's cool i've spent time in a biology lab and done PCR and colorimetric assays and gel electrophoresis and that gives me a BIT of useful knowledge for certain stuff, but i really do need to get more neuroscience background. or need to find someone who does and doesn't ask a lot of questions.

I’ve struggled with iron deficiency anemia for years and tend to bruise very easily. I always find random bruises on my skin and since I’m very strange and love documenting everything, have kept a journal for years estimating the ages and healing progression of all my bruises, cuts, and burns. My favorite pastime is lining up my bruises with tables or couch edges to see where and how I managed to get them…
Our town coroner even gave me this colorimetric scale for assessing bruising (it’s like an L shaped plastic ruler; small towns amirite?) and I use it as a bookmark!
Point of the story, is I can only imagine what fun I’d have finding bruises and love bites all over my body the day after a rather rough sex session. Ideally I’d need help counting them all. We’d celebrate them healing by making more in new, creative places and make a game out of trying to control their shapes and sizes before they develop. I want a heart bruise on my thigh!

Dairy production systems significantly impact environmental sustainability, animal welfare, and human health. Intensive farming maximizes output through high-input practices, raising concerns about environmental degradation, animal welfare, and health risks from antibiotic residues. Conversely, organic farming emphasizes sustainable practices, animal welfare, and minimal synthetic inputs, potentially enhancing biodiversity, soil health, and milk quality. Micro#RNAs (#miRNAs), non-coding #RNAs regulating gene expression, are promising biomarkers due to their response to various conditions. In this study, #miRNAs bta-miR-103 and bta-miR-155, which are abundant in milk from pasture-fed cows, were selected. Additionally, bta-miR-215, which is abundant in milk fat from intensive systems, was also studied, in order to differentiate dairy production systems. A novel, cost-effective gold nanoparticle (AuNP)-based sensor was developed for #miRNA detection, leveraging the unique plasmonic properties of AuNPs for visual detection. The method involves functionalizing AuNPs with complementary #RNA probes and detecting #miRNA-induced aggregation through colorimetric changes. This rapid, results in 30 min, and sensitive, visual limit of detection of 200 nM, assay requires minimal instrumentation and can be easily interpreted, offering significant advantages for field implementation in characterizing dairy production systems.
