I promised myself I was going to post this and I forgot! I made an embroidery for my best friend for her birthday.

Commander Cosmo, from The Vice Quadrant by Steam Powered Giraffe. A truly bangin’ space opera.

I used leftover fabric from some pillowcases I made as the background. The pattern itself was lovingly designed by my other best friend @stories-to-the-end. Without her he could have never been created. I’m so proud of our son.

This was my first time using satin/silky embroidery thread and I’m really happy with the effect!

I don’t know if I’ve ever made a proper post about this, but if I have… I forgor.

ANYWAY-

So you know this lyric from “Commader Cosmo”?

For the longest time I misheard the lyric, thinking it was “Commander Walter, save them”, like, telling Cosmo to always remember his connections and relationships from his human life.

But it’s not.

When I saw the actual lyrics, I was pretty confused because I always thought the “Commander Walter” was talking TO Cosmo, just referring to him by his human name. Evidently, I was wrong, because the true meaning hurts so much worse-

The lyric is talking to Cosmo, yes, but it isn’t calling him “Commander Walter”… that’s who Cosmo is being told to save. Cosmo is so jaded and far removed from his humanity by this point in the song, that he’s about to seal himself within The Necrostar to escape it all…

But, even so, he’s being told to keep Commander Walter in his heart. That’s what this lyric means. It’s telling Cosmo to, regardless of how inhuman he’s become or will be, always remember who he was and, through him, Peter Walter IV can live on.

Ultimately, that’s what separates him from becoming The Astronaut. Commander Cosmo takes this advice to heart and chooses to remember where he came from, while The Astronaut, by his own admission in “Oh No”, let all of that go.
