Deadline: January 6, 2020 Applications are open for the AkiraChix codeHive Program 2020. codeHive is a year-long fully-funded residential program by AkiraChix that provides education and economic opportunity to young women between the age of 19-23 from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. These young women are those that have completed high school but due to financial constraints are unable to further their education. codeHive is a project-based learning program that aims to develop capacity in Graphic Design, Mobile App Development (Java, Android), HTML/CSS and JavaScript (React Js), Python/Django , Product Design (Fusion), Electronics (Arduino), Entrepreneurship, Navigating your journey (Building and growing yourself and others as a woman in Tech), and Professional Development (Getting ready to concur the workforce). Fee and Financial Aid Every young woman admitted to the codeHive program receives financial assistance that allows them to go through the program. With the help of our contribution, the @bildwellfinancial food drive bin is overflowing just like my heart! The generosity of those in my community and circle never cease to amaze and inspire me. #BildwellGives created this drive to support the @guelphfoodbank, who rely solely on donations to support those in need in our community. My goal was to personally donate 50 items and I was successful with a total of 63 items donated but I would love to give a huge shout out to this amazing woman right here! Jamie is beautiful both inside and out and I'm honoured to call her a friend. She donated 15 items including some big ticket items including diapers and feminine hygiene products! I'm glad this food drive was a success and hopefully we can all remember that those in need don't just require our help during the holidays. I know we're not always in a position to help as much as we would like so I propose this challenge: each week when you visit a grocery store to do your weekly shopping, purchase one item for the food bank bin. In October, I decided instead of celebrating my birthday the traditional way, I would celebrate my ability and desire to give back with 32 random acts of kindness. My phenomenal friend @kimber_k905 had the brilliant idea to put together baby baskets for new mothers in difficult situations. Did I mention she's phenomenal? With Kim's motherly tutelage, we were off to gather the necessities. Having spent about $150 each of our own funds Kim and I put together these amazing baby baskets and delivered them to Women in Crisis so that women in need could benefit from this donation. Today I received a beautiful thank you letter from Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis thanking us for our contribution and support. I want to thank Kim for being the beautiful person that she is and for reminding me what amazing women I have in my circle. Women who support me, and each other.
