Or should I call you Comtesse de la Fere?

I read an article that had a throwaway line of speculation that the third-tier personas’ names are the “true” form of the first tier persona (William was Captain Kidd’s given name, Celestine was the actress who essentially “gave life” to Carmen, Gorokichi was Goemon’s birth name, and Diego is the fictional Zorro’s real name). That got me speculating today about what the names for the remaining un-revealed (or as-of-yet only partially-revealed) third-tier personas.
Makoto - Agnes or Jeanne
Agnes - The apocryphal female pope has been referenced by Adam of Usk in the Chronicon as having the name Agnes.
Jeanne - I can see Atlus (and I think it’s incredibly likely) trying to tie Pope Joan to Jeanne d’Arc.
Futaba - Grimoire, Azathoth, Eibon, Celaeno, Liber Ivonis
Grimoire - A book of arcane knowledge or magic. The Necronomicon is itself a grimoire.
The other four are all fictional books that exist within the Cthulhu mythos.
Azathoth - The Book of Azathoth belongs to Nyarlathotep (a major figure in the Persona series who hasn’t been present in the games since P2).
Eibon - A grimoire written by a sorcerer-priest named Eibon, which chronicled his life and journeys. Eibon worshipped Tsathoggua, also known as “the Sleeper of N’kai” (Futaba’s “sin” was sloth).
Celeano - Celeano is an alien planet with an enormous library.
Liber Ivonis - The Latin translation of the Book of Eibon
Haru - Comtesse, Clarisse, Charlotte
Comtesse - Comtesse de la Fere was an alias Milady de Winter used when she married the musketeer Athos.
Clarisse - Another of Milady de Winter’s aliases. Clarisse (or Clarick) is the name of the character Milady de Winter originated from.
Charlotte - The fake name Milady de Winter’s brother-in-law gave her when he tried to force her into exile in the colonies.
Akira - Probably won’t have one like Souji, but if he does....
Leblanc - Maurice Leblanc is the author of the Lupin novels.
Marius - Arsene was possibly inspired by Marius Jacob, a French anarchist.
Lucifer - This one should be obvious. It breaks the “rule” defining third-tier personas, but Akira is a wildcard.
?????? - Akira is a wildcard. His third-tier could be anything, and he may not even get one considering Souji did not have a third-tier in P4 Golden.
Goro - Loptr, Hwethrungr, Robert, ??????, ***** (see below)
This depends on 1. whether you believe Loki or Robin Hood is Goro’s original persona (I think it’s Loki), 2. whether you believe Goro, as a wildcard, will even have a third-tier persona. (I am taking it as a given that Goro is going to survive Royal.)
Loptr - The actual Norse rendering of Loki. Pronounced like “loapter”
Hwethrungr - Loki’s other name, meaning “roarer.” Pronounced “hwethroonger”
Robert - One of the possible “origins” of the Robin Hood mythic archetype, Robert Deyville. Robert’s brother John led their family in support of Simon de Montfort, Earl of Leicester, against King Henry III. There is a reference to “Robert Hood” during that period, typically ascribed to Robert Deyville.
?????? - Goro is a wildcard. His third persona could be anything. Or maybe he won’t get a third because he’s a wildcard, like how Souji doesn’t have a third tier persona in P4 Golden, but that would be incredibly unsatisfying considering Goro surviving would lead to new confidant material with him and the opportunity for additional character growth and another awakening.
Baldr - I saved Goro for last because of Balder, specifically bc I wanted to put my reasoning for a mythological third-tier in my Akira speculation. Balder is the god of light and summer in Norse mythology, loved by all the gods, and his death, orchestrated by Loki, is what kicks off Ragnarok. After Ragnarok, Baldr is resurrected. It would be incredibly poetic if Goro’s third-tier evolved from Loki, the god who instigated Ragnarok, into Baldr, who is the Christ-figure of Ragnarok.

Muskies Rewatch: Commodities
This is, this is  r e a l l y  late in the Rewatch calendar, but what the hey.
There’s a lot of good meta on this episode and I don’t feel like walking over well-trodden ground, so I’ll keep this short.
Commodities is the episode of this show where I went from ‘this is fun’ to ‘this is really really good’. I loved the way Porthos’ and Athos’ personal plot-lines dipped into each other, and into the uber plot of getting Bonnaire to Paris; I liked the way comedy could shift into anger or heartbreak or quiet pathos and then back to comedy.
Especially. I liked the way things look different with the changing light. Bonnaire doesn’t change through the episode. He’s charming; he’s shifty; he’s a good laugh. I don’t get the sense, in his early conversations with Porthos, that he’s lying to the man when he says he’d do well out in the colonies, or that he respects Porthos’ self-teaching. Nor do I think he’s lying later when he shouts, “I am not a prejudiced man!” (No studying the bible for spurious justifications of slavery here.)
But - what comes across as egalitarian respect in the early game, or the burbling of a charming rogue, turns into an apologia after we learn about the slave-trading. “I am not a prejudiced man,” he tells us. “If I didn’t buy them, someone nastier would.” And he hasn’t changed. The slipperiness that’s funny and kind of charming at the start - that’s still there. It lets him traffic in human lives, also, with little regret. But the shadows have shifted, and we see him differently.

And this charmer. We get little flashbacks of Athos-and-her through much of the episode, where she’s in a lot of white and blue. I’m not going to say ‘virginal’ white-and-blue, because it’s clear that they’ve been getting  v e r y  intimate, but it all comes across as very sweet and innocent. (Athos is very much besotted and, through his eyes in the flashback, so is she.) It makes for an interesting contrast with the lethal temptress in the first two eps.
Why was she hung? Athos’ flashbacks do not say - they focussed on how he loved her, and how he killed her, near as close-to-the-chest as his talk with the priest in 1.01. That’s what he really cares about, I guess. But in their last conversation, we know that she lied and was a criminal. And she says she “did it to protect our love.” (Since we find out later that she killed Athos’ brother, with the claim that he was trying to rape her - does she mean killing Thomas, or does she mean hiding her background in the first place? Shrug.)
But here she is, a flaming devil-woman, who was also a fine lady in white and blue who at least appeared to be be besotted with her husband. Milady embodies both of those identities.
And here:

After she’s beaten him to the ground (and when Milady hits you with a flaming torch, you go down) and they’ve snarled at each other like angry cats because blaming each other is also very important, he just, he just curls into her for comfort, and she holds him. Whatever her other sins, the Comtesse de la Fere wasn’t all a lie. That is what makes their feud so soul-destroying for the both of them: they loved each other then; they love each other now.
Athos and Milady, in the changing light.
*happy sigh*
And, as lagniappe, I’ll add in my delight at Aramis’ blatant appreciation of Maria Bonnaire, their twirly fight at the beginning where he neither has to hit her or get bitten and, later, his refusal to either point a gun in her direction or trust the lady. (D’Artagnan is young and inexperienced. He gets played a lot.) And the simplicity when he helps bury her, and the prayer. This is an Aramis-in-a-supporting-role episode, but he gets some lovely character moments.
