Hello! Fellow artist here! I’m a traditional artist that has recently gotten a tablet for a graduation gift from my parents since they knew I was expanding my art to digital, I have been doing it for a couple of months now but I feel I could still use some tips, help, app recs,ECT or really any kind of help. (I love your art btw it’s so beautiful🥺🩷)
Hello and welcome to the digital world! Congratulations on your graduation!
This is a very good question, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about it, as it's been a while for me since I transitioned to digital art.
I think the best advice I can give is
keep it simple (brushes, especially!)
remember the basics - you actually only need a piece of paper and pencil for this (don't be like me and forget to use traditional media completely... im about to get back to traditional sketching myself)
if you are a painter, going digital is probably easier, however, if you only used pen and pencil like me... well the advice I'd give my old self is to start with color theory (and other basics you need to solidify, also depending on your niche)
follow tutorials from PROFESSIONALS. The channel that taught me the most is https://www.youtube.com/@YTartschool, even though I don't use his art process anymore. Another one that gives universal advice that can be applied to many styles is https://www.youtube.com/@conceptcookie/videos
Straight up copy artworks of artists you like (once again, professionals that already work in the industry, such as concept artists, or classic masters) If you would like a list of names, I'm happy to expand this post later. (Leave me a comment!)
That's all from the top of my head. I hope I didn't say anything too trivial and that any of this was helpful.
Good luck!

CGC Weekly Wednesday Twitch Stream | Watch HERE!
Today’s Topic at 2PM CST: Gaining a Following
Artist: vonnart
Continuing on our recent lecture streams (5 Artist Mistakes, Fear and Laziness) where there is a lot of discussion and sharing of personal experience and observations, this stream will be focusing on "Gaining on Following". There are some consistencies that I and my friends have noticed with our own gains on social media but with our art friends, and artists we admire.
So let's have a full stream on what has seemed to work, has failed, and what will always be helpful to gain that following.
Come watch and join in today’s stream and hopefully learn something new in the process!
Click above to watch on our Twitch channel starting at 2PM CST (-6GMT)

Do you have any tips for getting into 3d?
Hmmm!!
Well I think my strongest rec would be to use Blender.  It’s free and extremely powerful!  It’ll very likely take you a while to get comfortable with 3D software, so you might as well allow yourself the freedom of using a free software to learn the ropes in.  I don’t think it’s worth considering something paid until you feel like you at least kinda know what you’re doing!
Watching tutorials is an obvious recommendation.  I’ve found that watching full, long walkthroughs on how to make something, from start to finish, most helpful for my learning style.  There’s a course on how to make a minotaur on Lynda.com that I felt taught me a ton.  Conceptcookie stuff is great too.  Just watch and FOLLOW as many as you can!! I have been doing 3D stuff for years and still learn something new every time.
Also, be patient.  Don’t get discouraged if you don’t pick it up right away. It calls for a really different mindset than 2D art does, and it’s something you have to learn by doing.
I don’t really know what else to say, I know that’s not all that much info? But please feel free to hmu with specific questions...I’m not a master by any means but am more than willing to share how to do specific things or...help in other ways!!
Thanks for asking omg

Hey Faeb, I've been following you ever since you came into Sparty's stream way back when. Your art is awesome, and it's really inspired me to try picking up drawing, I would always try to draw and get discouraged so i would stop trying but i really want to try this time. Do you have any reccomendations of videos/books literally anything on how to help me become better at drawing, from specific body parts to landscapes! Thank you so much, and thank you for all your art, it's all so amazing. <3

5.31.15 - How Color Affects Mood
Watch on our Twitch channel starting at 2PM CST (-6GMT) HERE!
Today we are going to reflect on how color variations can affect the mood. This is extremely important to experiment with as often times color can set the entire mood and emotion behind the piece. What could simply be a simple subject matter can be thought provoking and insightful with just a different palette.
Come watch and join in today’s stream and hopefully learn something new in the process!

Noticing a bit of a theme for some of the stuff I’ve been doing lately? Yet another exercise for Concept Cookie. Hands... so many hands. Yes - these are all my right hand, and yes - I held all but one of those poses while painting everything. The finger pointing pose was worked from a photograph, because my arm simply doesn’t bend that way to draw from without a mirror.
I highly recommend the exercises and courses over at Concept Cookie for any aspiring artists out there. They’re quite thorough and cover a wide range of subjects. If you’re diligent about practice the community there can help bring your skills up to par very quickly.

So I actually painted this way earlier in January (but held off posting it here until now lol) - but yea! Here’s a peppermint/candycane knight for @cgcookie‘s winter contest! Had a lot of fun painting this guy.
Streamed this to patrons last month to demonstrate my process. I’ll probably make the no-commentary timelapse version public sometime later this week, but if you’d like access to the commentated version (as well as future streams/videos as I make them), please consider checking out my Patreon!
(You should check out the other entries too, all of them are incredibly cool.)

hi Faebelina! I want to ask how does one get better at drawing? ;_; i know you may say 'practice' but I dont know what to practice. any tips? btw huge fan of your overwatch art! <3
Hey, Anon!
(Everything I’m about to say is personal opinion and the particular way I have been tackling learning.)
1.So in the beginning, it’s much more important that you are drawing often rather than drawing “correctly”. Your muscles need to adapt to certain movements. You will see a lot of improvement just by doing.
2.Once you’ve done that for a while you’ll naturally notice areas you need to work on. For example, you might not be great at faces. So you study faces-- drawing from reference. As you draw, study why the features of the face sit the way they do. But most importantly, draw iterations. Instead of focusing hours on one good face, spend that time making iterations of several types of faces. This video can explain more about why that is beneficial and how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0ufz75UvHs
3.If you’re noticing your drawings look stiff, work on gestures. These are quick (30sec-2min) doodles that push you to understand the point of a pose or movement rather than focusing on the edges.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8j39NqwL7s4
4.When you get around to coloring and you feel frustrated you can study color theory. Some people just naturally have a feel for good colors and others need to work a bit more, so whichever you are is okay. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kQllLy_X4I
5.I don’t recommend doing a lot of finished pieces early on. I think it’s great to push yourself to the extent of your knowledge but I also think your time is better spent on fundamentals rather than polishing. This is something I wish I could do over.
Lastly I will leave you with some of my favorite resources for learning:

Hopefully this helps you get started! It’s a really exciting journey to be on, I wish you lots of luck :)

Some time ago, I signed up for concept cookie. I loved the idea of this website a lot, but I seemed to have forgotten about it briefly. Today I decided to look it up again, and well I happened upon this gem stone. This is really something I noticed, I used to do back when I got overly critical about my art. I used to draw every day. I am not going to spoil it for all of you,I really do suggest reading it for yourselves.

A competition piece. I must admit, even though this one was rather fast, I like how it came out.
