What do I do if my parenting partner does not agree with or understand Responsive Parenting? One of the hardest truths that we have to accept, about those we love, is that we really can’t change their perceptions. They are the only one’s who can choose to try and see things differently. Responsive Parenting requires a shift in perspective that needs to be intrinsically developed. If your parenting partner does not agree with or struggles to practice responsive parenting, start asking yourself why. How were they raised? What are they fearful of? What parts seem to upset them the most? Why do you think that is? We need to understand THEIR perception, rather than try to persuade them to think and do like us. Once they feel understood, you can start doing the work together to deconstruct what you both believe your role is as a parent and a partner. You don’t have to agree or always do things the same. Reciprocal empathy is a better goal ❤️ #responsiveparenting #jmilburn #parentingpartner #parentingtogether #holdspace #empathyisnecessary #empathize #connection #connectingwithyourspouse #supportiverelationships https://www.instagram.com/p/CRjUZ7GnxIE/?utm_medium=tumblr
