Chicago Med x doctor!OC Morgan Fitzgerald is a doctor at Chicago Medical and family secret’s spill as her younger brother goes through major life changes. Her relationship with her colleagues also alter as she weighs everyone’s decisions during the day. Based off S1E14 of Chicago Med
4.0k+ Words
Featuring: Morgan Fitzgerald, Marcus Fitzgerald, Will Halstead, Maggie Lockwood, Connor Rhodes, Stephanie Fitzgerald (mentioned), Don Fitzgerald, April Sexton Warning:  mentions of rape and murder, idk what else ???, cursing ??? , patient death, mentions of pregnancy loss A/N: I don’t know how I feel about this one. We learn more about Morgan and her family. And Connor and Morgan’s relationship is altered. She also reconciles with Will. Let me know.
Part Four
“Dad? Is everything okay?”
Morgan’s father rarely called her. It wasn’t that they were distant, they just didn’t like talking on the phone. And Morgan always made the effort to fly out to Colorado Springs at least once a year.
“No, everything’s not okay. It’s Marcus.”
“Marcus? What happened?” Morgan stops in a vast hallway, her body looking out to the street that runs alongside the hospital.
“He dropped out of college.”
“Um,” Morgan thinks about what to say. “Dad, I don’t know what I’m supposed to do about that.”
“He’s not answering our calls and his roommate hasn’t seen him in a few days.”
Morgan and Marcus were close. But after Olivia’s death they grew distant, even though they lived in the same city. Occasionally, they would get together for lunch or dinner and they would try to spend birthdays together, but Morgan was busy (more like consumed) with work and Marcus was focusing on school.
“Dad, I just got back from a trip two weeks and I’ve been nonstop busy with work. I haven’t necessarily been keeping watch.”
“Well, when you get the chance can you please tell him to call us. Or even talk to him yourself.”
Morgan lets a sigh out unsure on how to handle the situation. “I’ll do what I can dad, but no promises. Marcus is his own person and after Olivia, things have been different.”
“They have been for us all Morgie. It doesn’t mean he should throw away his life.”
“Dad.” She sternly cuts him off before he could continue. “When I get a hold of him I’ll talk to him. You’ll only get him mad.”
“Now Morgan, I just want what’s best for him. I let him fly out there for college and he proves me wrong by being irresponsible. Stephanie is friends with the dean, she can reverse his decision.”
Her father continues, but a nurse walks up to Morgan gaining her attention.  “Dr. Fitzgerald, your brother is waiting for you in the cafeteria.”
“Thank you.” Morgan nods and turns her attention back to her dad. “Dad, listen. I have an important case that I need to get back to. When I see or hear from Marcus, I’ll call you.” The older man tries to continue talking, but Morgan hangs up the phone and makes her way to the cafeteria.
When she makes it to the vast space, she easily spots her brother Marcus. He’s using his fork to push around a tomato on his plate and his leg is bobbing up and down, shaking the chair next to him.
“Hey Marcus. You haven’t been waiting long have you?” Morgan pulls the chair away from her brother’s shaking leg and sits down in it.
“No, I just got here.”
“Good.” Morgan pulls out her lunch, noticing how hungry she’d gotten. “So, what’d you want to talk about?” She asks then shoves a forkful of pasta in her mouth.
“I came to give you this.” Marcus pulls out a key and slides it over to his sister. Morgan hurriedly swallows her food to question him.
“Why’re you giving it back?”
“I appreciate you letting me stay in your apartment these past couple of weeks while Hayden’s gone.” Morgan urges him to continue. She pushes away her fettuccine alfredo dish and picks up the key.
“I told you, you could stay as long as you want. Hayden’s gonna be out for another two weeks or so.”
“No, I know that. And again thank you. But I’m actually leaving Chicago.” Marcus tries telling the news slowly, but it still brings shock to his older sister. Her eyes have widened and her eyebrows were almost aligned with her hairline.
“Don’t you think that’s a little too rushed. It’s not too late to go back to school or –”
“No Morgan. It’s like I said last night. It’s been a little rough on me and I just don’t think school’s for me.”
“What’re you gonna do?”
“A friend of mine has some work in Louisiana for me.”
“And what exactly is your plan Marcus? You dropped out of school two weeks ago. Your name is still on the lease of your apartment. Are you planning on  going down to Louisiana to couch surf? You haven’t thought this through.”
“Wow Morgan. Out of everyone, I thought you’d be more supportive.” He scoffs, a little offended. Morgan can see her brother pull himself away from her, leaning back in his chair.
“It’s not that Marcus. I’m your sister, I’m allowed to be like this. Criticize your actions. Worry about you.”
“Well you need to understand that this is something that I want to do?”
“Why? What happened two weeks ago that has prompted you to uproot your life?” Marcus glances away, looking anywhere but at his sister. This irritates Morgan a bit and she taps the table to get him to look at her. “You can talk to me Marcus.”
“Two weeks ago, I got arrested and was almost charged with drug possession.” The news shocks Morgan even more and now she’s the one to lean back into her chair.
“Why didn’t you tell me? What happened?”
“I didn’t tell you because my mom didn’t want me to tell you. She used her connections to get the charges dropped.”
“She got the charges dropped? More than she ever did for me.” Morgan mumbles the last part, but Marcus hears her.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
The older sister makes a sucking noise with her teeth and shakes her head. “It’s nothing. Got into a fight at a frat party and got arrested, and instead of bailing me out, your mom let me spend the night in jail. And I had to do all the hard work to get it expunged.”
“Maybe that’s why she didn’t want me to tell you.”
“Yeah. Probably.” Morgan and Stephanie didn’t have the best relationship. It might have started from the fact that Morgan refused to call her ‘mom’ and had always called her by her name. Maybe even the fact that Morgan looked just like her mother. It could have also been the fact that Stephanie’s only son with her father, Marcus, looked up to Morgan as her replacement. Stephanie was always away on lawyer business; their dad had expectations for all his children to fulfill and it got a little overbearing; Olivia was an older teen that was out of the house by the time Marcus was four; and his older brother Omar was a kid himself, so most responsibilities that pertained to Marcus growing up, fell onto Morgan. She didn’t mind, but Stephanie did and it only created a bigger rift between stepmom and stepdaughter.
Take into account a bunch of other events that occurred since Stephanie married her dad and it’s no surprise that the two didn’t get along and had to restrain themselves during family holidays. When Marcus moved out to Chicago, he did it as a way to get closer to his big sister again and he also understood that the death of their older sister was hard on Morgan. But despite his efforts they never did get close as they used to be.
Morgan is pulled out of her thoughts when she realizes that she’s staring off into the distance. “Anyways, that all doesn’t matter. Your mom got you out, it doesn’t seem like that is a reason to leave.”
“Well our dad’s apparently had enough of my shenanigans this semester, so he cut me off.”
“He cut you off?” Morgan leaves forward again, her forearms accidentally slamming into the table too hard.
“Yeah. My grades have been slipping. I’ve been to more parties than lectures. And I guess the arrest was the last straw.”
“And instead of helping you out, he cuts you off?”
“I don’t really care. I’ve finally realized college isn’t for me and that I just want to find my own path.”
“Okay, Mr. Fortune Cookie. Are you sure? Maybe you shouldn’t abruptly leave and detach yourself from your family after something like that happened? Maybe you should stay with me a little longer.”
“Morgan, I love you. But you’re never home. Since I got here last year, you’re never available and I know that’s not gonna change soon. Dad and I aren’t talking. And I’m not gonna move back home just to be stuck listening to my mom trying to push me back to school.”
“You can at least find a job in a city you know. I’ll help pay for your rent.”
“You still have student loans to pay off and your own rent to worry about.” “What about Omar? He and Rachel have an extra room in their apartment in California. It’ll be a new town, but you’d have family.”
“I’m not moving into an apartment with my older brother and his wife, not while they’re trying for a baby.”
“Is there any way that I can get you to change your mind?”
“No.”
“Dad called, he might uncut you off.” She shrugs, trying anything to get him to not make such a rash decision.
“Morgan,” he takes his sister’s hands trying to calm her down. “This will be good for me, I promise.” There’s a smile on his face, a dimple poking out of his left cheek. Morgan tries to say something again, but her phone beeps, indicating that she is needed in the emergency room. She hesitates, not wanting to end this conversation. “Take it, I have to head back to my apartment to pack.”
“Marcus–” He gives his sister a look and she pulls out her phone. Yep, she was needed. She stands up and he does the same. “You better not leave without giving me a proper goodbye.”
“I won’t,” the 19 year old pulls his sister in for a hug and she hugs him firmly, kind of scared to let him go. “Why don’t we go out for dinner and bring Connor?”
“Connor?”  Morgan pulls her body away from her brother, a confused look decorating her features. “How’d you know he was back?”
“I actually talked to him about this a few days ago.”
“I didn’t know you two were that close.”
“He’s a family friend. Friend of the family. I am also in this family.
“Yeah, I guess. I’ll ask him.” Morgan shoves her brother slightly and then begins making her way to the emergency department. “Keep the alfredo. Connor made it.” She yells back to him, the abandoned food resurfacing in her mind.
          ❦
The second Morgan walks into the ER she spots Connor at the desk. She walks up behind him and places a gentle touch on his bicep.
“Hey,” he says when he sees her.
“Hey.” He turns back to the Mac computer, but she keeps looking at him. “Why didn’t you tell me about Marcus? You and I see each other everyday.”
“It’s not that I was keeping it from you, Marcus wanted to tell you himself. And he asked me for advice on how to tell you.”
“Oh,” she tilts her head to the side as if to get a better perspective. “ I didn’t know I was that difficult to speak to.”
“You have your moments Fitz, but telling you was really important to him. So I was willing to help.”
“Well thank you. He seems to be at ease with his choices.”
“Well I’m glad.” Connor nods, giving a little smirk to his friend.
“He’s invited us to dinner. Wanna come?”
“Yeah, sure.”
A ding resonates in the department and Morgan sees Maggie in the corner of her eye.
“Dr. Fitzgerald, trauma one incoming.” Maggie says, a light tap on the doctor’s arm before moving towards the ambulance bay doors.
Instantly Morgan grabs two pairs of blue gloves from a box on the countertop, throwing the extra towards the surgeon. “Come on heart doctor.” He chuckles, but pulls the gloves on and follows Morgan.
“18-year-old female hit a guard rail, flipped her car. Open left tib/fib, BP 90/75.” Everyone begins reeling the gurney into a trauma room. “Heart rate 130, GCS 10.”
“Alright, she’s gonna need ortho.” Dr. Rhodes starts. “Call X-ray. Alert the OR.” Maggie signals her understanding before putting the orders in her cube.
Morgan grips the sheets the patient is on to start the transfer. “One, two three. Transfer.” On her orders everyone moves the patient onto the treatment bed.
“It’s okay, sweetie.” Maggie soothes. “Let go of the purse; it’s okay. Let go.”
“It’s okay.” Connor tries to comfort as well, seeing the hesitance in the patient’s eyes. “You can give her the purse, okay? You can give her the purse.”
Morgan moves away from the top of the patient and focuses on her other injuries. Morgan looks up to the screen; worry beginning to climb in her chest. Maggie leaves the room on a quest to find the girl’s family. Maggie takes her place next to Doris. “BP is crashing,” she says to the team.
“Pulse ox is 78.”
“She’s lost consciousness.” Morgan notices, taking a torch and flashing it into the girl’s eyes to gauge her reaction.
“Give me 100 of Sux, 20 of Etomidate.”
“Need a hand?” Morgan’s head raises to the sound of Dr. Halstead.
“Yeah, throw in a tube.” Morgan recommends and Will enters the situation. Morgan grabs the breathing mask and places it on Skyler’s face as the red headed doctor begins prepping the tube.
“She’s bleeding from somewhere.” Dr. Rhodes says. “Get the level one transfuser, trigger the MTP. I need the FAST scan and a chest X-ray.” The FAST scan is put in Connor’s hand as Will continues to intubate the girl. Morgan holds the breathing mask, waiting to move onto the next task to help the patient. Nurses surround the doctors giving off statuses and performing duties.
“I’m in.” Will says and Morgan hands him the breathing tube so that he can push air into Skyler’s lungs. He nods at her and Morgan gives off a smile before moving away.
“All right, there’s no free fluid in her belly.”
“Let’s get the X-ray in here. And increase O2 to the max.” Morgan immediately announces when Connor removes the ultrasound wand. Will puts on a lead apron, Connor places a board under the girl and Morgan heads out of the way.
“X-ray, clear.”
“Clear.”
The room continues moving as soon as the X-ray is done. Will looks at the results, analyzing the problem. “Her left side is whited out and her mediastinum has shifted to the right.”
“It’s a tension haemothorax.” Morgan mumbles, her hands moving to the drawer with a chest tube.
“Chest tube tray now. 36 French.” Connor says, and Morgan places it in his hand.
“Hand me the trauma shears.” Morgan asks April, who hands it to her. The doctor then cuts the girl’s shirt and disinfects the area. She moves out of his Dr. Rhodes’ way as he begins to cut into Skyler’s side.  Blood begins squirting out of the cut while Connor tries to plug it closed. “We need more sponges.”
“Yes, doctor.”
“More four by fours.” Someone says.
“She tore something major in there.” Will exclaims as he tries to help his colleague.
“Transfuser’s here!” April vocalizes, pulling the machine.
As Connor continues with the chest tube, Morgan leads the way. “Alright, let’s hook it up. Start with the blood and the plasma.” The nurse starts to do what was directed and Morgan moves back to Skyler’s head. A few more things are addressed before Connor makes the move to go up to the OR. Together the team, excluding Morgan, wheel the girl in the direction of the OR.
The doctor throws the gloves in a trash can, making her way over to Maggie’s desk.
“You’re not going up with them?”
“No, Connor’s got it. Besides I was paged down here for something.”
“Yes, a patient of yours in treatment 4. Should be your last before you head up to OBGYN.”
Morgan takes the tablet with a smile and turns, heading to the new patient. It’s been two weeks since she got back from her vacation and the break has allowed her to enjoy her job. You could see it in the way she easily smiled and they way interacted with her surroundings. Kevin and Adam taking the case out of her hands, helped as well. Maybe life could be a little easier now.
          ❦
When it came to obstetrics and gynecology, it was not as hectic as the emergency room. And during her hours there, Morgan was able to slow her pace down a little. Sure at times it could get a little boring, but Morgan loved seeing pregnant women and delivering babies, the beauty of life.
She’s standing in front of the glass window of the nursery room. Babies sprawled in their little incubators. Some fussing, some sleeping, some peacefully looking at the dim lights about them. She’s so entranced, she doesn’t even notice the person walking up beside her.
“They’re adorable, aren’t they?” She turns her head to see a woman who’s also looking at the newborns. “Is one of them yours?”
“Oh no! I just like looking at them.”
“Understandable. The one right here,” she points to a baby with a light green hat,” is mine. Harley is her name.”
“Beautiful.” Morgan sighs out, a small grin on her face.
“Do you have kids?”
“Um, no.” The doctor chokes out.
“Do you want kids?”
The personal question shocks Morgan. It almost makes her faint. Lately she hasn’t thought about it; but usually whenever she was on the phone with her dad or Stephanie, they’d remind her that her biological clock was running out. “I think I do.” Morgan answers, unsure what kind of answer that was. “I was pregnant twice before, but after that I never thought of it.” The doctor had no idea why she just told the woman that. No one knew about her pregnancies, not Hayden or Connor, not her brothers or her dad. This was something she wanted to keep to herself, not like it was anyone else’s business.
“Well I hope that you figure it out.”
“Thank you,” Morgan stalks away trying not to let the revelation of her child situation get the best of her. She continues walking until she gets back to the ED. She resumes working for the last few hours of her shift. Her mind forgetting everything else going on in her life and continuing with work.
          ❦
“Hey Will, have you seen Connor?” Morgan asks after venturing through the ED looking for her dinner date. “We’re supposed to have dinner.”
“So now you’re talking to me? Cause it’s almost been a month.” He says, packing away some things in his bag.
“Yeah, I am.” She looks at him. He isn’t looking at her and Morgan understands why. “Will, I’m sorry, I am. Everything that was happening a few weeks ago was a nuclear bomb. You were going through your own things and I didn’t necessarily help.”
“You were a little hostile,” they both chuckle at that. Morgan steps a little closer, testing the waters a little bit.
“I know I was. When it comes to my family, I get a little defensive. Especially with what happened to my sister. Then you went a did something incredibly stupid and I just got mad at you. And everytime I thought about approaching you, you went and did another stupid thing. You’re a great doctor. Amazing. I don’t want you to ruin that.” The two of them are closer now and Morgan tries to show her sincerity. “You have been one of my closest friends these past few years and I didn’t want to lose you. I’m sorry.”
“I forgave you a while ago.” He answers back and Morgan releases a breath she didn’t know she’d captured.
“And I promise I will try to tell you about my family and other things. Just give me a little time.”
“Yeah, of course. No big deal.” He nods, his eyes grazing the features of her face.
“Thank you Will. I don’t deserve you.” Morgan throws her arms around him and he almost doesn’t have time to react as she quickly pulls herself back. “I’m sorry to rush this nice moment, but have you seen Connor? We’re supposed to meet my brother for dinner.”
“Oh! Yeah, sorry. He was here just a few minutes ago. He was packing up to leave.”
“Damn, he must’ve forgot about dinner.”
“Morgan, you should know that our peds v auto patient didn’t make it. She died in surgery and I think it got to him.”
Taking a few steps back, Morgan nods, understanding the situation. “Thanks for letting me know. I’ll go make sure he’s okay.” Grabbing the bag that was prepped before she went on her search for Connor, she heads out of the room and throws a quick wave to Will.
It’s a little cold when Morgan steps out and she tightens her coat around her. Connor’s car is still in the parking lot and the sight pulls her body towards him. As she gets closer she sees him crying. The scene demolishes Morgan’s heart and it almost makes her cry, her eyes wetting as teardrops sit unshed. Her hand raises to tap on the driver window and she sees her friend jump a little. His head hesitantly turns to look at Morgan and she offers a small smile. He just looks at her, unaware of what to say or do, but gladly Morgan does.
She walks around the front of the car and opens the passenger door, throwing her backpack in first and placing herself inside. The door slams shut and silence envelopes the two doctors. With no hesitation, Morgan reaches across the center counsel and takes Connor’s hand. Her thumb grazes his knuckles as his sobs calm down a little.
“I’m sorry about your patient Connor.” He turns his head and looks at her with a grateful look. “I already canceled dinner with Marcus. We can have it another night.”
“Thank you.”
“For the time being though, let’s go back to my place. We can watch movies and order pizza from that old pizzeria that we used to go to as kids. And you can’t say no.” Her other hand cups his face and softly wipes the tears away. “We’ll even drink wine or something. Whatever’s in the cupboards.” Connor’s hand clutches the wrist of the hand on his cheek, his thumb now soothing the exposed skin. There’s a small smile adorning his face and they almost reach his eyes.
“I’m sorry about dinner.” His voice is raspy, bothered by the crying he was just doing. But Morgan finds it cute and it only brings her closer to him.
“No need to apologize. Like we promised, we’d always be there for each other.” It’s intimate, the most they’ve ever been and it wasn’t uncomfortable. It was as if they had always been this intimate. And no one knew who moved first, but in a short moment their lips clashed against each other in a kiss that was long overdue.
Connor’s hand leaves Morgan’s and moves to cup the back of her neck as a way to bring her closer to him. The action, along with the temperature, sends a chill down her spine but the warmth of his lips soothes her. The tenderness of the kiss remains and they both decide to keep it gentle because these were new waters. His lips are a little chapped, but they compliment her soft ones and it parallels her callous fingers that are caressing his soft skin.
If Morgan could kiss Connor forever, she would. But they were still sitting in his car in the hospital parking lot. Their movements stop for a moment and they both sit there with their eyes closed, lips barely touching. When Morgan opens her eyes, he’s looking at her. There’s still a sad look present, but a small grin is pointed at her. She notices the dark scruff sculpting the bottom of his face and the tears sitting on his eyelashes. His eyes are on her lips as he feels an overpowering urge to kiss her again.
“We can also do more of that if you aren’t up for movies.” Morgan jokes before giving him a chaste kiss.
“Yeah, why not.” He whispered, willing to continue the private moment but also take a break from the day.

Connor leaned against the nurse's station, smiling fondly at you, as he watched you type away on the keyboard. Eyes focusing on the screen.
He felt his heart rate flutter. His feelings for you grew ever since he had sex with you. He was too scared to confess his feelings for you just in case you rejected him and told him you didn’t feel the same way.
Neither Connor nor you noticed Maggie looking at the both of you with a knowing smirk. Shaking her head. She was wondering when the two of you were finally going to admit that he and you had feelings for each other.
“When our shifts are over, I was thinking we could hook up,” Connor spoke, making a smirk appear on your lips.
“Or instead of waiting till the end of our shift, we could have a quickie,” You suggested, looking away from the screen to look at Connor. Taking your lower lip in between your teeth. Connor felt himself fall in love with you even more. As well as grow hard.
His finger went up to the side of your face, tucking the loose piece of hair behind your ear. Making your breath hitch. While Connor smirked. Eyes darkening with lust.
He opened his mouth to speak, but the sound of a woman’s loud voice cut him off.
“Help him,” She pleaded. Desperation on her voice. As she did her best to support the man. But she was struggling to hold his weight.
Maggie, Connor and you, quickly rushed to her side.
Connor wrapped his arm around the guy. You quickly went to her side. Gently touching her shoulder. She looked at you through tear-filled eyes. Looking frazzled. Pulling her away from the guy.
Connor assisted the semi-unconscious guy to a gurney. Grabbing a pair of gloves as he walked into the room. Putting them on his hands. Connor examined the deep cut
“I’m fine,” He grumbled out, as Connor took the torch out of his pocket. Shining the torch in his eyes. Noticing his pupils were bigger.
“Do you remember what happened?” Connor asked him.
“He passed out,” She gasped out from outside the door.
“We were in a car accident,” He replied. Slightly dazed.
“Do you remember your name?” Connor asked as the guy’s head slumped down.
“Luke,” He replied.
“It’s okay, Hun, we are going to help him,” You reassured her, as sobs racked her body.
You let go of her shoulder. Giving her one last reassuring smile, before rushing over to Connor. Grabbing a pair of gloves as you entered the room. While Maggie patched up the wound on his head.
“Is there ringing in the ears that doesn't go away? Any weakness in your arms or legs?” You asked as Connor took his stethoscope out of his pocket. Putting the ear tips in his ear. Putting the diaphragm on his chest, where his heart was located. Listening intently. Furrowing his eyebrows slightly. Nothing sounded off.
The guy let out a groan, making Connor and you meet each other’s eyes.
“I have a headache, there is ringing in my ears,” He responded.
Connor’s eyes looked up to look at you. Your eyes meeting his.
“Let’s do an MRI scan and a CT and run a full body scan to rule anything else out,” You spoke, making Connor nod.
“Luke, we are going to take you upstairs, for an MRI scan, okay,” You informed him, as Connor put the railings up. Maggie unlocked the brakes with her foot. While you did the same on the end brakes.
The women quickly lurched forward. As Connor and you rolled the guy out of the room.
Maggie held the women back, as Connor and you wheeled the gurney into the elevator. Going to the floor where the MRI room was.
“Do you remember what today is?” You asked, trying to get more information out of him.
“Ah…” He answered.
“Wednesday,” He replied, making you give him a slight smile. As the elevator doors dinged, opening up. Connor and you looked at each other having a silent conversation with each other.
Connor and you quickly rolled the gurney out of the elevator and towards where the MRI machine was.
“Luke, do you have any metal in your body we should know about?” You asked him. Luke shook his head no.
Helping him off the gurney, and onto the table. Laying him down on the table. Making sure his head faces the bore.
“Luke, this is Doctor Evans, she is going to slowly pull the table towards the machine,” You spoke, pointed to Doctor Evans, who gave Luke a reassuring smile. Not that he turned his attention to her. He looked slightly panicked. His eyes looking at the ceiling.
“You are going to be okay, just breath in and out,” You reassured him. Turning around. Connor and you walked out of the door, and into the room Doctor Evans was in. She nodded her head at Connor and you, starting the process.
“You might feel a little weird, Luke, but just breath in and out, try not to think about it, find your happy place,” You instructed him, pressing the intercom. Connor looked at the monitor that showed Luke’s brain.
You looked at the screen, noticing that everything was fine. Connor turned his gaze to look at you.
“Everything looks fine, we should do a CT scan, see if there is a fracture,” You spoke.
“Yeah,” Connor agreed with you. Giving Doctor Evans a small smile. While you went to Luke, the table going out of the MRI machine. Luke honestly looked like he was going to be sick.
“Hey, Luke, everything looked fine, but we are going to take you to the CT scan room now, and do a CT scan,” You spoke. Grabbing the gurney and bringing it over to him.
Luke let out an annoyed grunt as a response. As you helped him off the table and onto the gurney.
Connor walked into the room
“Hey buddy, one more scan, and then you can go see your girlfriend,” Connor spoke, as he and you wheeled Luke out of the room and down the corridor going towards the room where the CT scan machine was.
“Oh, she’s not my girlfriend,” He responded. Making Connor’s eyes slightly widen at his mistake.
“Oh, sorry, your sister then,” He corrected himself. Smiling at Luke.
Luke shook his in disgust. Making Connor look at you. you looked just as confused.
“She isn’t my sister,” He grumbled, feeling slightly irritated. You weren’t sure if it was at Connor or the fact he had to have another scan.
“Well, your friend then,” Connor spoke. Making Luke let out an annoyed grunt.
You gave Connor a comforting smile. Both of you feeling slightly relieved when the two of you entered the room where the CT scan machine was in.
Connor and you helped Luke out of the gurney and onto the table.
Connor quickly pushed the gurney to the side, going out of the room and into another room where the monitors were. Probably to avoid more of Luke’s irritable mood.
Luke grabbed your wrist before you could turn around. Looking at you with pleading eyes. Face edged with worry.
“This won't take long will it, I… just,” He spoke, forehead creasing as he tried to think of the words to say, you gave him a slight smile.
“It shouldn’t take long, all we are just checking for is a fracture,” You spoke, giving him a warm smile. He let go of your wrist. You could see worry clouding in his eyes. Making you purse your lips.
“I’m sure she is alright, I’ll go get her after your CT scan is finished,” You spoke.
“Promise?” He asked, holding his pinkie finger up. Making you smile.
“Promise,” You responded, hooking your pinkie finger with his. You unhooked your finger from his turning
“I have to tell her I feel the same way,” Luke mumbled, thinking you didn’t hear him, as you turned around and opened the door to the room Connor was in.
Connor arched an eyebrow at you. Making you let out a small chuckle.
“What?” You asked him. Taking a seat next to him.
“What did you promise him?” Connor asked as he started the process for the CT machine.
“He wants to see the girl that bought him in here,” You responded. Looking at the monitor, while Connor’s eyes were locked on you.
Connor rolled his eyes slightly.
“Hopefully, he is nicer to her,” Connor grumbled. Making you let out a slight chuckle.
“I think he might have feelings for her,” You spoke.
“Poor girl,” Connor grumbled. Making you playfully roll your eyes.
You pressed the intercom to the mic.
“Hey Luke, you might feel a little bit strange, don’t panic, remember to breath in and out,” You spoke, your voice coming through the speaker.
You let go of the intercom. Looking at the monitor intently as the scans slowly showed up.
“Well, everything looks fine,” You spoke, tapping your index finger on your chin.
“Yeah,” Connor responding. Squinting his eyes. You slightly moved closer to the screen. Making Connor’s breath hitch at how close you were to him. Connor pushed his feelings aside. Focusing on the brain scans on the monitor.
“Wait,” You muttered seeing something questionable.
“Does that look like a linear fracture to you,” You spoke, pointing at where you saw it.  Connor looked closely at where you were pointing. You looked at him intently, waiting for his response.
“I can’t see anything,” Connor spoke. Not seeing what you were pointing out. Making you frown. You look again. You let out a sigh as you saw nothing. Maybe it was your eyes playing tricks on you.
“Okay, pull him out, and tell him the news, I’ll go get her,” You spoke, getting up from the chair and exiting the room, going to go find the girl that came with Luke.
When you exited the elevator the girl quickly rushed over to you.
“Is he going to die?” She gasped out. The rim of her eyes red. Tears filling her eyes.
“Have you got checked out?” You asked her. Ignoring her question by asking her a question.
“Yes, oh my god he is dying isn’t he?” She cried out.
“No, he isn’t dying,  he is in the clear, it’s just a concussion, I can take you to him,” You spoke.
She nodded her head, making you smile. You pressed the button for the elevator, making the elevator doors open. You walked into the elevator, while she followed you.
She let out a sigh.
“Make sure you look after him, and he doesn’t do any sports, try to temporarily reduce time spent on sports, video games, TV or too much socializing,” You told her.
“If his headache pain is too much….” You spoke again only for her to interrupt you.
“Are you in a relationship?” She bluntly blurted out. Making you look at her in shock.
“It’s complicated,” You nervously gasped out. Wishing the elevator would hurry up and reach the level it was meant to be on.
“You should tell them you love them, before it’s too,” She spoke through broken sobs. You gave her a sad smile. Resting your hand on her shoulder trying to comfort her.
“Oh, Hun, he is in the clear,” You reassured her. Giving her a reassuring smile. She looked at you with sad eyes filled with tears.
“I know, but I told him I loved him and he just stared at me, so I ran off and now he is in this mess,” She sobbed out.
“You know before he got his last scan, he said he felt the same way,” You spoke. Making her smile slightly.
“Really?” She beamed at you. Making you nod. She let out a squeal. The elevator dinged as it arrived on the floor. She rushed out. her eyes lighting up as she saw Luke in a wheelchair. She quickly wrapped her arms around him hugging him. Connor looked at them with a soft smile. Wishing that were him and you, but he was too scared to tell you in fear of getting rejected.
Connor looked up to see you walking out of the elevator. You beckoned him to follow you. Connor followed you into an unoccupied room.
Giving you a questionable look. You cupped the side of his face softly. bringing your lips up to his and kissing him passionately. Sparks flew between Connor and you. Connor felt his breath hitch. Heart rate speeding up. Eyes closed, as warmth filled his body and yours.
You pulled away from him, making Connor’s eyes flutter open. Connor and you stared intently into each other’s eyes. Breathing heavily.
“I love you, more than a friend,” You confessed breathlessly. Heart rate speeding up.  Nerves taking over your body. Connor felt his heart skip a beat. You finally spoke the words he was too afraid to tell you. most importantly you felt the same way.
“I just had to tell you before it was too late,” You gasped out. Still keeping eye contact with him. You were too nervous to see the joy in Connor’s eyes.
“I mean I can understand if you don’t feel the same way, I will respect that, though it might be hard and weird between us, we can get through….” You babbled out only for Connor to cut your rambling off by pressing his lips against yours. Kissing you with so much passion. His eyes as well as yours fluttering closed. His hands cupping the side of your face. His thumbs caressing your jawline.
Connor pulled away from you. Resting his forehead against yours. His eyes fluttering opened as well as yours.
Connors locked his eyes with yours.
“I love you too,” He confessed. Beaming at each other. Your eyes lit up with happiness. Heart skipping a beat. Smiling happily at him. Wrapping your arms around his neck.
Both of you beaming with happiness. Both feeling joyful over the fact the love the two of you shared for each other was mutual. Connor tilted his head on an angle, lowering his lips to yours. Eyes fluttering closed as he pressed his lips against yours softly. Your eyes fluttered shut, as you let out a content sigh. Connor's hands moved away from your face, trailing down to your waist, holding tightly onto your waist. Pulling you closer to his body, as he deepened the kiss.
The sound of his pager and your pager went off, wrecking the moment.
Connor and you pulled away from each other. Groaning. You pouted at Connor, making him smile down at you. His hand cupping the side of your face. Thumb caressing your jawline. Looking at you with soft eyes.
“Your adorable,” He cooed. Making you slightly flustered.
“We're going to finish this later,” You demanded, Making Connor smirk.
“Definitely,” He smirked. Making you take your lower lip in between your teeth…

♔ MY NAVIGATION ♔
Tumblr media
0.5 TYPES OF REQUESTS I WRITE:
One-shots (1k words or more)
Drabbles  (below 1k words)
Headcanons (bullet point fics)
Blurbs (below 500 words)
Imagines (gif + a little blurb, around 500 words)
1.0 RULES:
Request via ask.
Always include what type of request you want me to write.
Specify because specification is very important as it helps me make your request as pleasing as possible, but try not to be too specific as I like the element of surprise.
If you want me to write something from my prompt list (click here): include the name of said character, category of the prompt and the prompt’s respective number (e.g. Jay Halstead, fluff 7).
1.1 Note: If you don't include what type of request it is that you want me to cook up, I will choose the type myself so don't come at me if you wanted a 2K worded piece of work and instead got an imagine with 200 words!
1.2 Note: Mixing the prompt with a plot line of your own is allowed, just make sure to follow the rules (1-3).
1.5 THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
Unless asked for, I will be writing with the Female!reader in mind (I like to exclude any gender relation and make it so that both genders could read and enjoy).
I respond to asks when the request has been qued to post and released on Ao3.
The maximum number of request you can send is 2. I know there is an option to send them in anonymously, but I really hope you will stick to this rule. Give others a chance to submit their wishes, and don’t make the line too big with by mass requesting (I close requests after I get around 30 requests).
Requests sent during seasons I have not watched or for characters that have yet to make an appearance in the show will not be written (exceptions exist).
I write one-shots but not a whole series unless I can see/want a continuation.
Themed requests (Christmas, Valentine's Day, New Year etc.) can be only sent during that time. I don’t accept Christmas requests during the month of May. The same goes for the rest.
I have every right to delete every request that does not fit within the rules stated above, or I feel uncomfortable writing. Also, it’s important to note that I don’t have inspiration to write every request that’s sent. It’s normal to not have inspiration, and because I prefer quality to quantity, if I see that I don’t have inspiration for a request then I will not write it.
Requests will be deleted if sent while my request box is closed. I won’t answer them as I feel like there is no need. On almost every informative post (+my bio, and if you’re on PC my theme under ‘blog status’) it will say whether the request box is closed or not.
English is not my first language but without digging myself my own grave this early on I want to say that I'm proud of how much I know, given that I never speak English unless in school.
Be nice because only constructive criticism is allowed. If you spot a grammatical error or a paragraph/sentence/word etc. that doesn't make sense, let me know. But be nice!
2.0 THINGS I DON’T WRITE:
LGBTQ+  topics/relationships (because I feel like I wouldn’t do a good job)
Real people, send only requests for characters in my writing list
Ships or OC, send only reader inserts
NSFW (mature content stories)
Noncon
Dark!fics
Romanticized mental illnesses
S*icide scenes
R*pe scenes
Racism/slurs
2.1 Note: P*dophilia, r*pe, s*icide might be mentioned in my Chicago P.D, Fire, Med shots (or other), but I will never explicitly write about those subjects or write about anything that is about/centered around them.
2.2 Note: Explicitly written smut is a no, I will not write that. Try to refrain from requesting steamy scenes too, as I will only put them in myself were I to deem it necessary for the WIP.
2.5 THINGS I DO WRITE:
Angst
Fluff/ WAFF
Fusion/ Crossover
Daughter/Wife/Sister!Reader
Here is me trying to explain what kind of requests I also take [x]
2.6 Note: It’s hard to list but to make it easier for you guys, I will write about almost anything as long as it’s not on my 2.0 bullet.
3.0 POSTING SCHEDULE:
Posts are usually posted between 01:00 A.M. and 05:00 A.M. CET (Central European Time).
Check schedule to see what's been qued to post.
3.1 Note: This account is NOT my work place. Everything here is written when I have time and I feel like writing. Requests that I find more interesting will most likely be written and qued to post sooner. I advise you to follow my blog, check regularly and sit tight until you see that it's qued. You can always check my navigation page and click on 'schedule'. Or simply click here.
3.2 Note: I am not a doctor nor a firefighter nor a policeman. I research whatever I can before I start writing and sometimes that takes hours. Nothing is 100% accurate (especially for events set in Chicago Med) although I hope it is.
3.5 WRITING LIST:
3.6 Note: Requests are currently OPEN for all fandoms!!!
3.7 Note: Your requests do not have to be strictly romantic (Sibling!Reader or other are also (obviously) allowed).
---More shows and characters will be added through time

“I can’t believe you remembered my favorites.” Said Loralai while putting on her sweatpants. She had been very suprised that Will had remembered her favorite pair and happy about it too. She was even happier because her recovery was going great which could mean she would get out of here quicker the expected.
Will was with his back later against the door of the room. He had been awfully silent since he came back and there was a weird vibe around him which Loralai was quick to catch. After tying the knot on her sweat pants she tilted her head to look at him, narrowing her eyes. “Are you ok Doctor?” She questioned, noticing that he was looking at small Polaroid. “What’s that?”
Will cleared his throat, standing straight. He kept biting his lip and rubbing his hair, none of his movements were going unoticed to her. She knew the drill, he was worried and mad about something, it was clear. “I found this while I was looking for your clothes...” He paused, approaching her “I just can’t remember when it was taken so if you could help me out here..” he left the Polaroid in her lap and crushed his arms.
Loralai’s eyes opened widely at the sight, her heart started beating quicker out of the memories that came back. Her mind traveled in time to that party. The music, the lights, the unknown people around her, her sweat and fears. She didn’t remember much, must of the night had been washed away from the alcohol she had drank. She could recall only two things clearly without a doubt, her heartache and the moment on the photograph. It was almost a week after her break up with Will and she was trying to burn the pain with wine, to replace one drug with another. One moment she was alone and the next Jay was there, hand on her cheek and then— Flash. The sound of a picture being taken. So quick, so blurry and yet so real.
“It wasn’t in a very good hiding place Loralai.” Will’s voice brought her back to the cold and silent hospital room.
“I wasn’t trying to hide it.” She spat back, he laughed in return, making her look up at him. “There is nothing to hide Will!”
“You just forgot to mention it, ha?” He asked ironically. She sighed, knowing that this wasn’t a battle she was going to win easily.
“It happened after we broke up.”
“Is that supposed to make it better?”
“I didn’t mean anything Will.”
“Then why did you keep the picture?”
She held back. She thought about that night again, about what happened after the kiss. She could hear The voices in her head telling her to keep going but choose to leave instead and then next morning her friend came by the house, giving her this Polaroid. She could have rejected it, throw it away but she choose to keep it. Why? “I don’t know.” She admitted looking down. Will laughed, a laugh that scared her heart.
“And yet you still say it meant nothing..”
“I’m just telling you the truth!” She snapped, standing up “That’s why you’re here, right? You want an explication! So let me explain!” Will motioned for her to go on, despite the fires of anger that were burning in his eyes “we were in a party, we got drunk, we kissed, a friend of mine took a picture and then I left. That’s it, that’s the story. If you wanna hate me for it, go ahead! God knows you’ve been waiting to find a reason!”
“Don’t do that!” He raised his finger “don’t play the victim card Loralai. There is no version of this where you or him are the victims!" His voice started getting louder “How can I know you are telling me the truth?”
“Now you’re just being paranoid as always!”
“Or maybe you wanted me to find it. This your revenge for me breaking up with you? Hm?”
"revenge?” Loralai gasped in disbelief. She knew that most of what he was saying were only words of anger but she turned her back on him, unable to even look at him. He kept shouting and yelling, his voice was starting to turn into a void, a simple echo that made her dizzy. The accusations were too heavy for her heart to handle. He was angry, he has the right to be angry, she reminded herself but his words were still sharp like a knife and her skin as fragile as glass.
Suddenly she felt like something was piercing her freshly made wound. Dr. Rhodes had been very specific about stress and the damage it could do. She placed her hand gently on her wound while kept going on and on like a broken record. She felt the blood on her palm, the feeling of it made her entire body shiver. She held on the little table next to her bed, trying to keep her body still.
“stop" she whispered, trying to warn him. She couldn't take it any longer. But he didn't stop, he probably didn't even hear her. So she tried again, repeating the word, each time louder than before until it came out so loud even she was scared "STOP PLEASE! SHUT UP!" she shouted turning around to look at him. When doing that, she lost her balance and tripped on her own feet, falling backwards. Will was quick to move and grabbed her by her arms. He looked worryingly at her reopened wound. Loralai could even see a bit of regret in his eyes but as soon as he tried to take of her shirt and help her she snatched his hands, warning him to stop.
"I want Doctor Rhodes." she said. A request that Will tried to ignore but she insisted "don't touch me! Stay away from me!" she told him finally earning his attention. She slapped his hands away from her, like age was blaming him for her current state and screamed for him to get out of the room. Then the door opened, Maggie walked in looking like she had heard what happened. Dr. Rhodes followed behind her. Maggie approached Will, placing her hand on his shoulder in an attempt to pull him away "Will! Come on" she whispered while Dr. Rhodes, started patching up Loralai again. She was happy to see him leave, it somehow lessened the pain.
"I thought I said no stress" said Rhodes trying to lighten the mood but she didn't answer.
After he was done with her, he went to find Halstead on the doctor's lounge. He was sitting on the sofa, playing anxiously with his fingers. He didn't even realise Rhodes entered the room until he spoke "that was quite a show back there." Will immediately stood up when he saw his coworker, ignoring his witty comment.
"is she ok?" he asked.
"she'll be fine." Will nodded and headed to the door but Connor stood in front of it crossing his arms. "where do you think you are going?" he asked.
"I want to see her."
"that's too bad because you can't!"
"excuse me?!"
Connor sighed, knowing that there was probably going to be a fight. "you can't see her will-".
"she's my friend!"
"and She's my patient! I cant let you go in, when you are putting her well being in danger! It's my responsibility to take care of her!"
"you can't stop me-!"
"but the policemen in front of her door can! And they've been ordered to do so. I'm warning you Halstead! Don't make a scene out of this!" his tone was stern and he made it clear that Will would not be a able to see Loralai.
"it's not your choice to make." he insisted, raising his voice but connor's tone got louder to, speaking over him.
"I never said it was my choice will!" Will gulped. Connor could see the pain in his eyes, the betrayal he was feeling and he lowered his voice again, talking more calmly to him. "I made a suggestion for my patient. She agreed."
Will turned around, rubbing his face and pacing around the room nervously. Connor watched him, almost feeling bad for him, having know his coworker for as long as he did he knew he had trouble with controlling his emotions. "try and calm down! And we can talk about this again." he opened the door to leave "and don't do anything stupid."
When he left Will punched the cardboards with his hand, brusining it. A minute ago he was simply angry, now he was also sad and broken. He messed up for the 100th time, so much so that she didn't even wanna see him.
"will they need you outside!" said Maggie coming in and will nodded at least he had work to occupy himself with.

Chicago Med x doctor!OC Morgan Fitzgerald is a doctor at Chicago Medical. On the day of Med’s reopening Morgan is in the middle of a tense situation as old friends from the past come back and form uneasy relationships with newer friends. Based off S1E1 of Chicago Med.
3.9k+ Words
Featuring: Morgan Fitzgerald, Will Halstead, Natalie Manning, April Sexton, Maggie Lockwood, Ethan Choi, Daniel Charles, Sarah Reese, Sharon Goodwin, Connor Rhodes Warning: This might be complete shit, I don’t know. I tried my hardest with the medical stuff, a lot might be inaccurate.  A/N: Let me know how you like it
The alarm clock that sat on the nightstand beside Morgan’s bed rang as it changed to 4:45 AM. At the sound, the weary woman’s eyes blink open with great difficulty. She does not move for a moment, letting the alarm to ring a bit more before slapping her hand against the off button. Pulling herself up, she peeks out the open window to her right, noticing that Chicago was slowly coming to life for the day. It was November now, she had to turn the heat in the apartment soon though her roommate has been telling her to do it since August, but it always got hot in Morgan’s room. She hears a train nearby rumbling along the tracks and she can see a light tinge of blue sitting on the horizon. She had been back in Chicago for three years, but the mornings still entranced her. When a bird flies past her window, Morgan takes it as a signal to start getting ready for work.
Turning on the lamp, her small room becomes illuminated and the picture of her sister that sat on the nightstand beside the alarm clock came into view. It was taken during Morgan’s graduation from medical school about a month before their lives changed. Tearing her eyes away from the frame, she slips the bonnet off her head and places it on the vacant pillow to her left. The bun her hair was in unwraps into a ponytail, the ends of her braids tickling her upper back. Throwing the blue covers off her bare legs, Morgan slips her feet into the slippers beside her bed and trudges towards the bathroom at the end of the hallway. However, before she could get there, she noticed a light peering out from under her roommate’s door. She stops and softly knocks, pushing the door a little without waiting for a knock.
“Did you get any sleep last night?” Morgan’s eyes sweep over Hayden’s body and she is immediately given her answer. The reporter was slumped over her desk, papers scattered over her bed and on the floor. Hayden looks up to Morgan, her glasses sitting on top of her head and bags stacking under her eyes.
“I’m about to get a huge lead about a sex trafficking group operating around Garfield Park and Humboldt. People are going missing and I know that I’m getting near, I just need –”
“What you need is rest” Morgan interrupts her leaning on the doorframe. “You cannot keep pushing this hard or your body is gonna crash”
“But–”
“No buts.” Morgan pulls the pen out of her roommate’s hand. “Get some rest please, doctor’s orders.”
“You know you cannot keep using your occupation over me, you don’t see me saying investigative reporter’s orders.” Hayden leans back in her chair, arms folding over her chest, a soft smile on her lips.
“Well, when I go chasing sex traffickers in Central Chicago than you can pull that shit.” She smiles back. “I’m gonna go get ready for work, I don’t need the car today so I’ll leave the car keys on the counter.”
“It's reopening today right? After ya know.” Hayden shrugs. That night was rough, Morgan was running on fumes before the explosion and after the lockdown she was trying her best not to tip over.
“Yeah, it’s being televised,” the doctor forces a breath out. “I hope today’s easy, cause these last few months have not. I’ll see you later.” With that Morgan closes Hayden’s bedroom door and heads to the bathroom. Soon the shower head is pushing out water and steam is beginning to fog up the mirrors. The clock in the bathroom reads 4:57 and Morgan knows that she has to hurry if she wants to make it to the hospital by 5:45. She was glad that they found this apartment not too far from the hospital that she’d been working at for the past three years.
When a shower cap is put over her braids, the dark skinned woman puts herself under the warm water, her shoulder muscles relaxing just a little. Almost instinctively, her hand grazes over the surgical scar that was just under her belly and it lingers. Pulling her hand away she focuses on the rest of her body until she is done. She dries herself and applies lotion quickly, wanting to bring the attention to her makeup. Morgan did not do much when it came to makeup, she’d put light foundation and do her eyebrows. She decided to leave her box braids in a high bun reinforced bu two scrunchies. With a towel wrapped around her body, Morgan heads to her room to get dressed.
Her maroon scrubs and white lab coat were folded on top of the ottoman at the end of her bed. Slipping on a pair of black boxer briefs and a black sports bra, she knew that she had no one to impress. It’s been a bit of a dry spell since she broke up with her detective ex-boyfriend last spring. It wasn’t like it bothered her much, she was busy with work and had been focusing on her family. There wasn’t time to date (and she couldn’t deny that it took a bit of time to get over him). Glancing at the clock again, she sees that it was 5:20. The train station was about five minutes away, so she had to hurry. She’ll eat when she gets to the hospital. Throwing on her sneakers, jacket, scarf, and hat, Morgan then grabs her phone and her well prepared backpack.
A chill danced down her spine the moment she stepped outside and made her way to the train station. She waves to the lady opening the flower store to her right as her steps reverberate off the concrete steps. Putting in the headphones connected to her phone, Morgan starts an audio book, her focus only on the words of the story and her destination.
It wasn’t long till she got there, recognizing familiar commuters and passing a few smiles to those who were willing to accept. The ride was uneventful, but Morgan was not focusing on everyone else. She was either listening to the book or her mind was wondering about the day that laid out in front of her. Working in an emergency department was unpredictable, it could be a day filled with easy answers and wins or it could be tragic, long, hard, stressful. Morgan’s been at Chicago Memorial for three years, finishing her residency for emergency medicine and then accepting an attending position. After graduating from University of Colorado’s M.D. program, she decided to come back home after 11 years and applied to a few hospitals in Chicago. Chicago Memorial was her first choice and when she got it, it was like she was starting over. That was until everything happened.
The train stops at her destination and the doctor shuffles off with a few others. Briskly, she makes her way to the hospital, arriving the same time as Dr. Will Halstead. Yanking the headphones from her ears, she walks up to him and nudges him slightly, bringing a small smile to his face.
“Ready for today?” She asks him and he looks down at her, nodding slightly.
“I was so excited I couldn’t sleep last night,” Morgan laughs at his tone and he laughs with her.
“Okay, let’s just get through the day.” Together they walk through the lobby where people are beginning to set up for a press conference. In the doctor’s lounge, Will diverts his attention to Natalie while Morgan heads to her locker. She hangs up her backpack on the hook, pulls out her white coat to put on, and pulls out her purple stethoscope, stuffing it into the left pocket of her white coat. She makes sure her pager is on before stuffing it into her right coat packet.
Soon doctors, nurses, reporters, administration and more are standing in the lobby listening to Mrs. Goodwin speak praising remarks for the mayor. There are cheers and claps resonating around the room and the air is light. It isn’t like that for too long. The second Goodwin cuts the ribbon for the new emergency department, various pagers and cell phones begin to ring. Morgan looks at Dr. Choi when he pulls out his pager and soon after hers begins to ring. She pulls it out and glances down to it, her eyebrows furrowing together. She sees the Mayor being ushered off before Maggie walks out through the automatic doors.
“CFD Plan 2, mass cas. Multiple trauma patients, minutes away.” She yells. “Let’s go!” She urges and medical personnel begin to push themselves through the doors.
         ❦
All of sudden the emergency department is busy and there are sirens nearing the hospital. Maggie immediately begins delegating as paramedics pour through from the bay. Morgan is pushed to Trauma 1.
A young teenage girl who’s clutching her arm to her chest sits on the gurney. Morgan peers down and sees her tibia poking out of her shin and knows that the girl is in pain.
“Let’s start a morphine drip!” Dr. Fitzgerald yells out, a nurse fulfilling her orders. “Transfer on my count, gently,” everyone surrounding the girl clutches at the sheet, preparing to move her onto the treatment table. “One, two, three,” with a soft thud the girl is finally on the table.
“Hi, I’m Dr. Fitzgerald, what’s your name sweetie?”
“Grace,” she breathes out, obviously having trouble breathing. “My name’s Grace.”
“Alright Grace, we’re doing everything we can to help you.” Morgan flashes a light in front of her eyes to see her pupil’s reaction. “Pupils are reactive to light, blood pressure and sats are normal, heart rate is increasing. She’s tachy, let’s push 3 of Ativan.” The room moves around Morgan as they tend to the patient who is crying in front of her. Morgan puts a nasal cannula on Grace’s face so that she could breathe easier.
Moving to her head, Morgan takes off the collar and looks down. “Grace, I need you to do something for me real quick, okay?” Morgan nods and places her hands to each side of Grace’s head. “Alright, can you touch your chin to the chest?” Grace does so and Morgan then has her move her head side to side. “C-Spine’s clear. Doris, get me Xray and Ortho down here.”
“On it!” Doris leaves the room momentarily, before returning back to help. Morgan walks down to Grace’s feet and checks it’s pulse.
“Need any help in here?” Dr. Halstead’s voice comes up from behind Morgan and she gives out a sigh of relief.
“Dr. Halstead, I need you to help me reset her tibia before it leads to any deficits.” She says to him, not taking her eyes off of Grace. “Where the hell is that xray?!”
“Should be here momentarily, they’re all used up,” Will heads to the side of Grace’s right leg and nods to Morgan.
“Hey Grace, this is going to hurt a lot, but we need to do this, okay?” Grace goes into panic mode and starts shaking her head, tears ferociously gliding down her face.
“No, please no!”
“Grace, I understand how you might feel right now, but Dr. Halstead and I need to do this. I promise, it’ll take just a few seconds and then we can fix you up.” Without waiting for confirmation from the teenage girl, Morgan nods towards her colleague and together they work. Morgan pulls down on Grace’s leg, maneuvering the tibia back into her leg. Grace lets out a scream, tears moving down her face at a faster rate. “Alright, Grace, we’re all good now.” Xray finally walks in and everyone who is void of a lead apron, moves out of the way.
In the background Maggie reports another incoming, and it pulls the attention of the two doctors. “You got this from here?” Will looks down, aiming the question at Morgan.
“Yeah, I’ll be okay. I’ll be there to help you when I get Grace up to the OR.” She nods and he places a gentle hand on her arm, her replying with a soft smile. Will walks away from her and she turns back to her patient. Morgan and Doris work on calming her down and prepping her for her trip upstairs.
“What do you got for me?” Someone from surgery walks up behind Morgan, slightly starting her.
“She has an open fracture to her tibia, we cleaned the wound and maneuvered the bone back into her leg. Her arm has a closed fracture, due to her Xray I’d say she just needs a cast. Her leg, she’s definitely going to need surgery for realignment.” The surgeon, Dr. Lasonde, nods and both she and Morgan work to get Grace upstairs.
Soon Grace is on her way upstairs, her leg and arm placed into splints, and Morgan is throwing her gloves to the ground as she watches Lassonde push the gurney, a frightened Grace on top of it. Running a hand through her hair and giving a sigh out, she thanks the team around her before being rerouted to another person coming through the doors.
          ❦
Later, as she works at the computer filling out paperwork for Grace, Morgan peers up and notices someone stepping out of Trauma 4 and talking to Mrs. Goodwin.
Connor?
Before Morgan can approach him another team of paramedics walk in with Jamie and Goodwin sends them into a treatment room. Morgan looks down and finishes typing up her charts. “Hey Sharon!” Morgan yells to grab the administrator’s attention and she stops, stepping  beside the curious doctor. “Was that Connor Rhodes?”
“Yeah, he’s the new trauma fellow. You know him?” She looks between the room he stepped in and Dr. Fitzgerald.
“Yeah, I do.” She says absentmindedly, “ Huh, I wonder why he didn’t tell me?” Morgan wonders for a moment before looking back down to the computer screen. “It’s fine, I don’t want to bother him while he’s with a patient.”
“I don’t have to worry about anything do I?” Sharon asks, hoping that drama wasn’t gonna arise between them.
“Oh, of course not! Connor and I have known each other since we were kids, he just didn’t tell me he was being transferred here. Don’t worry Sharon.” Goodwin nods and walks away from Morgan. Then Maggie walks up with a distraught, older white woman. “What can I do for you Mags?” MOrgan finally turns away from the computer and gives the duo her full attention.
“Dr. Fitzgerald, this is Grace’s mom, Candace.” Maggier introduces and Morgan smiles at the woman, holding out a hand for a handshake.
“Is my daughter okay?” Candace asks, fear in her eyes and Morgan does her best to calm her down.
“I can assure you that your daughter is okay. She had a closed fracture in her arm that just needed a cast and her leg had an open fracture. That’s a little more complicated, but she just needs her tibia realigned so she’s in surgery.”
“Surgery?”
“It shouldn’t be too long now, and I am willing to walk you up to wait for her.” Morgan places a gentle touch on Candace’s forearm and beckons her to follow. “Thank you, Maggie. I got her.” Maggie nods and continues her job as a charge nurse.
As the doctor and patient make their way, Candace begins to ramble. “Grace wasn’t supposed to be on the train today, I was supposed to take her. This is all my fault.”
“Candace. Candace.” Morgan pulls the woman to a stop and looks her in the eye. “It is not your fault, these things just happen. But that’s not what Grace is worried about right now, I’m pretty sure that she just wants to see her mother.” Candace sniffles and reluctantly nods, letting the doctor take her to the waiting room outside Grace’s OR.
          ❦
After doing a few more rounds in the emergency department, Morgan sat herself in the doctor’s lounge, still not able to find time to talk to Connor. Morgan isn’t paying attention to the conversation happening between Natalie and Will, instead focusing on the charts of another one of her patients on the tablet in her hands.
“You meet the new guy yet? Rhodes?” At her friend’s name leaving Natalie’s lips, Morgan’s head snaps up.
“You could say that.” Will answers back. “Likes to throw his weight around.” He leans back in his chair, his body still facing Natalie. “I don’t know, strikes me as a little arrogant.”
Natalie gives him a little look as she contemplates the words he just said to her.
“Hey, I am not arrogant.” He scoffs at her, a teasing smile on his face. Morgan rolls her eyes and feels herself getting a little defensive over her old friend.
“No, no. Not at all.” Natalie says, sarcastically, to his remarks. “You just happen to know more than anyone else.”
“Hey,” Morgan grasps the attention of her friends and colleagues. “I promise Connor isn’t always like that. It was just a stressful situation to be making introductions.” She  says, barely looking up to her colleagues.
“Woah, Connor?” Will questions at the familiarity that Morgan had with his name. He glances at her, waiting for an answer.
“Yeah, Dr. Rhodes. He’s an excellent doctor and he’s great to work with.”
“Have you ever worked with him?” Natalie asks, taking another sip from her water bottle.
“No, I haven’t. But I know him and I promise, he isn’t a dick.” With that Morgan makes her way out of the room, she smiles at Nat and doesn’t spare a look at Will.
          ❦
A few hours later,  Morgan makes her way up to see Grace. She’s up and talking to her mom, a smile on her face.  Morgan knocks at the entrance of the recovery room, peering her head in to take a view at her patient.
“Dr. Fitzgerald!” Candace exclaims, waving the young doctor in.
“How’s everything going Grace? You look a lot better than when I first saw you.” Morgan glances over her vitals and chart before walking to the unoccupied side of the bed.
“Yeah, I’m doing better. The pain meds are really helping out.” She grins.
“That’s good. It looks like you’re okay for being discharged tomorrow morning. And I will try my hardest to come by and see you off.”
“Thank you Dr. Fitzgerald.” Candace reaches over and clasps Morgan’s hand. “For helping my daughter and for helping me.”
“It’s no problem, really.” She squeezes back before pulling away. “You two have a good night, and just let any of the nurses know if you need anything.” With that Morgan delivers one more smile and heads out of the room.
Now that it was the end of her shift Morgan decided to make finding Connor her number one goal.. She was ready to give up but finally spotted him standing outside a recovery room. She sneaks up beside him and peers in, Jamie is off of the ventilator and Dr. Charles sits beside him watching something on a tablet. Morgan had heard about the operation Jamie had and she could tell that he looked so much better.
“So, when were you gonna tell me that you were coming back to Chicago?” Connor jumps, whipping around to look at the owner of the voice.
“Morgan!” He chuckles out, pulling the doctor into his embrace. She hugs him back before pulling herself out and raising an eyebrow at him.
“So, were you just going to end up on our front doorstep hoping we were gonna take you in?”
“No, I was going to surprise you. I just wanted to come back, ya know?”
“Yeah, I do. Welcome home Connor.” She gives him a small smile, looking at the one he was returning to her. “Hey, I heard about your comatose patient, sorry about that.”
“Yeah, it was tough, but he helped us save Jamie.”
“That’s good, Jamie’s a good kid. He deserves it.” They both look inside the room for a moment, before Morgan looks down at the watch sitting on her wrist. “Hey, there’s this diner that’s open 24 hours, wanna grab something to eat? Catch up and give you a bit of a rundown on how things are run here at Chicago Med.”
Connor looks down at Morgan, her head still facing Jamie and Dr. Charles. “Yeah, sure. You buying?” She finally looks up at him with a scoff.
“Yeah right.” The fellow laughs at her and she leads him back to the doctor’s lounge in the ED. Stripping herself of her stethoscope, she places it in the locker, taking a glance of the family picture she had pinned up alongside the picture she had with Connor from her undergrad graduation.
“You hang that up in here?” He gawks at the picture, noticing how much the two of you had grown in the last 7 years.
“Yeah, I did. You are my best friend, besides Hayden of course.” Morgan hangs up the white coat on a hook in the cubby under the locker before continuing her answer,“but even when we were miles apart, you were always there for me.” She softly closes the locker.
“Huh.” He looks at Morgan, coming to the same realization about her.
“Let’s go, I am dying for their mashed potatoes.” He smiles and grabs his belongings before heading out of the lounge with his friend. On the way out the door, they pass Will.
She urges Connor to continue walking as she looks up at her other friend. “Hey Will, I’m sorry for getting all snappy at you earlier. Just got a little overprotective.” Morgan shrugs, placing her hands in her jacket pocket.
“It’s alright, I understand. I’m sorry for putting you in that position.” He nods, looking over the soft smile on her face.
“You’re okay, Connor has his moments.”
Will and Morgan were an enigma. They worked well together, everyone could agree on that. And outside of work, they proved to have a level of care for each other as well as always having each other’s backs. With the amount of affection they always seemed to portray to each other, everyone also wondered why they weren’t together. They made a good pair and the blinded love they had for each other was glaringly apparent to outsiders. The two doctors however, never saw it. Will was too hung up on his crush on Natalie and Morgan wasn’t looking for a relationship (the fact that she also dated his brother didn’t help). For now, they would be friends and if the universe allowed for something to happen, the universe would prevail.
“Want to grab something to eat?” Will asks, stuffing his hands in the pockets of his scrubs.
“Actually, I’m the welcoming committee for Dr. Rhodes so I’m taking him to the diner up the street.” Will nods, but dashes his eyes to where Connor is standing. “But tomorrow morning, I’m bringing coffee.” Morgan says, bringing a bigger smile on her face and chuckle to Will.
“Alright then, have a good night Morgan,” he says.
“Night Will, see you tomorrow.” She gives him a quick, small pat on his arm before turning away and walking up to Connor. They two old friends resume their conversation and Will watches the smile on Morgan’s face as she continues walking with the new doctor.

Intervention (S1P4)
Series Masterlist | Master Masterlist
Chicago Med x doctor!OC Morgan Fitzgerald is a doctor at Chicago Medical and she returns back after a two week break. However, we learn that she didn’t spend her entire break off and instead focused on her sister’s murder.  Based off S1E11 of Chicago Med
2.3k+ Words (Short chapter)
Featuring: Morgan Fitzgerald, Hayden Everett (mentioned), Will Halstead, Maggie Lockwood, Connor Rhodes, Kevin Atwater, Adam Ruzek, Jay Halstead (mentioned), Sarah Reese Warning:  mentions of rape and murder, idk what else ??? A/N: Yikes, I started writing this chapter and ended up writing the next chapter so I had to write the end of this one and the beginning of part 5. This part was hard to write because the episode didn’t have much action to put Morgan in and so I made it a kind of Morgan-centric episode. It’s very shot, I had no idea what I was doing. Part 5 is better and I’ve already started part six. Sorry in advance. And we will never talk about this chapter again.
Part Three
“Hey Morgan, welcome back.”
“Hey Mags, how’re you?” Morgan tosses her stethoscope around her neck and picks up a few papers sitting on the desk.
“Nope, nada. I wanna hear how your vacation went. You’re gone for two weeks and not a single person hears from you. You do not deserve to hear about any work drama until you spill.”
“I think you are being overdramatic. And not that you need to know, but Connor heard from me,” Morgan shrugs, not daring to look at the nurse. Maggie had an eyebrow raised and was giving her a look; it was similar to the one she did during Jay and the doctor’s interaction.
“You two really have history don’t you?”
“Yeah, we’ve known each other for almost 15 years. He knew my sister first, but he and I were just closer.” At the mention of her sister, Maggie sends her friend a soft but the latter still isn’t looking. “And we made this ridiculous promise while we were drunk about how we were always gonna be there for each other, and yet, neither of us have broken that promise.” Morgan is quiet for a second as she thinks about the time she and Connor had as friends, but then she moves on. Like she always does when it comes to her personal life. She never lingers on it long enough for people to try and figure her out. “My vacation though was very quiet. Hayden and I drove up to a resort  up north and rented a cabin. We skied, went to spas, ate luxurious food. She had to leave for an assignment early so I just relaxed and did a little research too.”
“So you went all the way to a resort just to work, eventually.”
“The work’s never done Maggie,” with that Morgan leaves with a smile, heading to   the first patient of her day. Maggie just watches her receding back.
Before Morgan can make it into her assigned examination room, someone walks up to her, placing a gentle hand on her lower back.
“Hey Fitz,” Connor says, a small smile on his face.
“Fitz? No one’s called me that since med school,” she chuckles fully stopping to look at him. “What can I do for you?”
“I just wanted to welcome you back. You look good.”
“Yeah, I guess time off was vital. But I have to know,” she pauses, the anticipation building and Connor waiting. “Does everyone know about Olivia? I’d suspect everyone would come to you for some clarification.”
Connor pauses, contemplating whether or not to spew out a white lie. It was true a few people came and prodded for the truth. And he briefly heard whispered conversations among colleagues before they would stop when he got near, but he knew what the topic was. Connor also knew how private Morgan was. She always had been, and after Olivia’s death she just became more closed off. But she also didn’t like being lied to. “Yeah, people know. I’ve tried to handle it, but it has its own life.”
“I guess it’s okay. I just…. I don’t know.” She shrugs and Connor rests his hands on her upper arms.
“Will you be okay?” His voice is sincere and Morgan wants to hug him, but maybe not right now.
“I will be,” at that Connor is about to pull away but Morgan stops him. “Hey, I wanted to apologize for being a bitch before I left. You know how my family gets me.”
“I understand. I do. And I’ll always give you the space you need.”
“Yeah, I know. But I probably shouldn’t push away my best friend. I need you, especially now.”
Connor pulls Morgan into a quick hug and is going to say something but a commotion arises from the ambulance bay.
“Dr. Rhodes, can you get this, please?” The two doctors pull apart and turn to the pleading charge nurse. “We’re slammed.”
“I’m on it!” He answers back and throws a ‘talk later’ look to Morgan over his shoulder.
She nods back to him and finally turns her direction to her primary goal. With notes open about the patient on the tablet and a smile on her face, Dr. Fitzgerald returns to work.
          ❦
Three hours later, Morgan is on a roll. Treating patients as quickly and efficiently as she could. She had seen her usual coworkers, except Will. She may or may not have been avoiding him. And it was about to get easier, because after her lunch break she was heading up the OBGYN. She loved emergency medicine, but always felt that there weren’t enough available people in the emergency room that specialized in the field. Just like Connor was pursuing cardiothoracic surgery and Natalie was focused on emergency pediatrics, Morgan focused on obstetric and gynecology emergencies. It interested her just as much as emergency medicine did and after losing a pregnant patient when she first got her match, the choice came easy to her.
“Dr. Fitzgerald.” Maggie calls, pulling the doctor in her direction.
“Yes ma’am. What can I do for you?” Morgan leans her body on the desk as the ensuing chaos of the emergency room flutters around them.
“I just need a signature here for your last patient’s discharge papers.”
“No problem.” Morgan pulls out a pen from her pocket and signs the paperwork. During this, Will siddles up to her. Maggie notices first and wants to usher him away, since she (along with everyone) noticed that Morgan was ignoring him, but the redhead ignored the nurse’s glares and he turned to Morgan, who still hadn't noticed that he was there.
“Morgan.”
Morgan’s plump lips fold into a thin line as a breath catches in her throat, she was avoiding this. Slowly placing the pen back into her jacket, she finally lays her eyes on him. “Dr. Halstead.”
“It’s good to see you back.” He starts, trying to catch her eyes which were fluttering around the hospital floor, evading. “I was hoping we co–” a ringtone interrupts his words and Morgan notices it’s coming from her. She breathes out a sigh of relief when she pulls it out. It may have been petty, but she wanted to stay angry at him a little longer.
“Sorry, I have to take this.” Without a response, she answers the phone without looking at who it is, and walks away. “Hey, are you here?” She asked.
“Yeah, we’re in the parking garage, top floor.” His answer beckons her to start walking to the hospital employee parking lot.
“We?” Morgan questioned.
“Yeah, Adam’s here.”
“Kevin!” She screeches, annoyance bubbling inside her. There was a reason she didn’t ask for Adam’s help.
“He’s my partner Morg, I couldn’t blow him off.” Kevin answers back and she pushes out an agitated sigh.
“Ugh, whatever. I’ll be up there in a few.” Morgan hands up and stuffs her cellphone back into her lab coat pocket.
The weather isn’t bad when Morgan hikes herself up to the top of the parking garage.  She can see the two policemen leisurely enjoying a cup of coffee.  She’d met Kevin years ago through his younger brother Jordan. The younger kid ended up in the hospital and Morgan was the one to treat him. They got to talking, found out they had some things in common, and it was one of the closest connections she made when she first moved out here and after Olivia’s death. Dating wasn’t an option between them, the way the two cared for each other was something close to two siblings and again, the fact that she dated Jay wasn’t helping. She didn’t want to dip her toe into the police dating pool again.
Morgan knew Adam through Kevin and Jay. And she made the mistake of introducing Adam to her roommate. Those two were quite the pair. Hayden used him as an inside source when it came to her articles and he used her to do things that he as a police officer legally couldn’t do (Morgan wasn’t necessarily supposed to know that though). Together, they made an agreement to warm each other’s bed when it was needed. Morgan of course thought it was stupid as Adam was a mess when it came to his love life, Hayden reassured that it was no strings attached and they were practically best friends when they weren’t sleeping together.
Other than that, Morgan and Adam didn’t have a bad relationship, she didn’t want to ask him this favor because she knew he’d tell Hayden. And Morgan doesn’t want her roommate on her back.
“Hey boys,” Morgan called out to them, her body leaning through the open passenger window. She gives a strained smile to Adam and he gives her one back, knowing why she didn’t ask him to do the favor. Without saying anything, Kevin passes the folder she asked for.
It was surprisingly thinner than what she expected it to be. This killer has been on the loose for a while and she’d hoped that the police would listen to her anonymous tips that tried to tie together all his crimes. But the evidence showed that they didn’t.
“This is all they have Kev?” Morgan flips through the pages, disappointment written on her face.
“Yeah.  I tried digging up some more, but that’s all that was available.”
“God, cops are so fucking useless.” She huffs out, completely missing the offended faces on the two detectives. “I have more in my own files than this. I tried taking it in, but I keep getting shut down.”
“Morgan, you can’t do this by yourself.” Adam finally speaks up, placing a hand on her wrist. She pulls her eyes away from the paperwork to him.
“But it seems like no one else wants to do the work. Olivia’s case has gone cold and I feel like the longer that it goes unsolved, the harder it will be to get justice.” Olivia’s throat aches as a sob threatens to creep out. There are tears brimming in her eyes and she turns her body away from the two men.
“I understand that, doc. But, you already have to worry about your patients and yourself.” Adam starts, glancing at Kevin, trying to get his partner to say something. The black man is unsure what to say, he’d recently learned about Morgan’s sister when she first asked him to acquire the files.
“Why don’t we take a look into it?” Kevin says and Adam wants to hit him upside the head. Adam had promised Hayden that he would help Morgan move on, which meant getting Olivia’s investigation out of her mind. If he and Kevin pursued this case, Morgan would never let it rest.
“Would you really do that?” Morgan almost throws herself into the car, hope filling in her chest. “You’d do actual investigating?” Kevin hesitates when he meets eye contact with Adam,  but the look on Morgan’s face destroys him.
“Yeah, I’ll try to do some work in between my regular caseload.” There’s a soft smile on Kevin’s face while Adam sighs out then turns his head to look at the giddy doctor.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have no idea how much this means to me Kevin. You too, Adam.” Before the second man could say anything, Morgan’s phone goes off indicating the arrival for one of her pregnant patients. “Looks like I have to go. Why don’t you come over tonight and I’ll give you everything that I have.” She smiles at both of them. “And Adam, please don’t tell Hayden or Jay.”
“Jay?” Adam questions. He understood why she didn’t want him to tell Hayden, but Jay?
“Yeah, Jay. The two of us are in a really good spot right now and I don’t want to jeopardize that anymore that it already has been.” Adam nods, understanding. “I’ll see you guys later.” With that, Morgan makes her way back into the hospital.
          ❦
Between patients Morgan finds herself peeking into the folder that Kevin gave her. One name stands: Isaac Elway. Apparently, his sister was a victim to the same killer that ended Olivia’s life. Details of the horrific crime, along with her sisters, were displayed in the paperwork. Morgan’s read the information about Olivia’s case numerous times before, but it still breaks her heart and it constantly keeps her up at night.
When she has no more patients, she pulls out a card with number on it. It’s Elway’s. She dials the number, her fingernail being demolished by the teeth in her mouth. She didn’t know why she was so nervous, she’d been searching for answers for years. This was the first time she had heard of Elway and she had to know what he knew. Why was phone number in the file? Was he that important.
The phone rings and anxiety rises in Morgan’s throat. Eventually she had to get answers, that’s why she had Kevin looking into more details. No one answers the other line, just the automated voicemail message and a beep. Morgan quickly debates in her head whether or not to leave a message,  but ultimately she does.
“Hi, Mr. Elway this Dr. Morgan Fitzgerald at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.  I am calling in regards to Sabrina Elway’s case file and it’s relation to another case. This isn’t a topic would like to discuss over the phone so I’d appreciate it if you would give me a call back. Thank you.” She hangs up the call and shoves the phone back into the pocket of her scrubs.
“Dr. Fitzgerald, I need an OB consult on a patient?” Dr. Reese pokes her head through the door, oblivious to the emotions ripping the attending.
“Yeah, give me a moment.  I’ll be there.” The intern nods her head and retreats back towards the nurse’s central desk.
Morgan watches Sarah leave and then her eyes graze over the presence of her fellow doctors and the patients inhabiting the emergency room. She needed to accept that she will get her answers soon and that she could not speed the process of the world. She couldn’t afford getting distracted or she’d put herself and her patients in danger. She leaves the doctor’s lounge and heads back to her job, finally relinquishing control of her sister’s case.

The tree branches scraped against your skin as you ran through the woods. All battered and bruised. Finding it difficult to see out of your left eye it was swollen. You found it hard to breathe as well. Your lungs felt like they were on fire, but you kept pushing yourself to run. You couldn’t stop now, you had to run.
Hope sparked inside of you as you saw a barn. Quickly running over to the barn as best as you could.
Slipping under the wooden fence. Sucking in a deep breath, pain rippled through your body. but you pushed through. Walking up to the door of the barn. Your hand resting on the door, sliding it open.
You quickly entered the barn. Closing the door behind you. The barn smelled like manure, animals, feed, silage, and wood all mixed together. You made your way over to a hay bale, sitting down on it. You carefully laid down. The barn wasn’t occupied by animals. Your eyes slowly closed, as you winced in pain. Your head was killing you. Every limp in your body felt like it was on fire. Your vision slowly fading into black…
“Dad, I’m sure the animals will be fine,” The daughter of the elderly man huffed out.
“Just want to check on them, they are a new herd of cattle I want to see how they are settling in,” He spoke. Getting up. Walking over to the front door. Taking his coat off the hook near the door. He slipped it on. Slipping into his gumboots. He grabbed the lantern. Grabbing his matches out of his pocket and lighting the lantern. He put the match out. Putting it down on the hallway table. Grabbing his rifle that was in the corner. Slinging the armband that was attached to the rifle over his shoulder.
“They were fine ten minutes ago when you checked on them again,” His daughter sighed. As her father opened the door. Exiting the farmhouse. Ignoring his daughter.
He held the lantern up in front of him. The fire lightening his path. Eyebrows furrowing as he heard his animals make sounds of distress.
“It’s okay,” He reassured them. Not that it worked. He then proceeds to locate what got them so spooked.
Eyes widening in slight fear, as he saw a coyote stalking outside of his barn. He put the lantern down, so he could fire his rifle.
He aimed at the coyote. Pulling the trigger. The sound of the gun breaking through the air. This seemed to cause his daughter to panic rushing out of the house. While her father picked up the lantern. Running over to the coyote to see if he got it. The coyote quickly ran away, fleeing the scene without a trace of a bullet wound.
The elderly man let out a sigh. Looking at the barn.
His eyes widen as he saw a bloody handprint smudged on the door. Taking slow steps he walked to the door. Hand pressing against the door, he slides it open. Heart pounding faster.
The moonlight lit up the barn. What he saw next made his heart speed up. He clutched his chest with his hand, dropping the lantern in the process. Causing it to fall on the floor. Breaking the glass. The fire spread across the hay scatted on the ground, as the elderly man fell to his knees, holding his chest tightly as he had a heart attack. The image of a bloody, beaten-up woman laying on his hay bale was too much for him.
“DAD,” His daughter screamed as she saw the barn light up with fire. She quickly sprinted back to the house. Tearing the front door open. Rushing over to the landline. She picked the cordless phone up. Quickly dialing 9-1-1. Holding the phone up to her ear, rushing back outside.
“9-1-1, what’s your emergency?” The emergency operator spoke.
“HELP ME! My father, he is in the barn and it’s on fire,” She gasped out. Her voice was full of panic.
“What’s your address?” the emergency operator asked. Typing away on a keyboard.
“I… Oh my god,” The women gasped out, as the fire grew larger. She was too shocked to speak. The emergency operator quickly tracked the women’s location. Informing the fire department and the ambulance department.
“Ma’am, help is on the way,” The emergency operator spoke. Only to hear the sound of the phone dropping and a loud cry…
The smell of smoke invaded your nostrils, waking you up. Your eyes widen in panic as you saw fire. You quickly got off the hay bale, rushing to find a way out of this barn, unfortunately, you inhaled too much smoke, making you collapse to the ground…
The sound of the fire siren, as well as an ambulance siren, got louder as they drove up the driveway. The fire rig stopping near the barn. While the ambulance stopped a bit behind the fire truck.
The daughter of the elderly man rushed over to them.
Kyle and Bobby rushed out of the rig. Putting their oxygen mask on and tanks on their backs, before rushing into the building. While the other firefighters rolled the hose out, turning the nozzle on. releasing water.
Bobby and Kyle saw an elderly man laying on the ground. Bobby checked his pulse. Kyle looked around the barn, seeing another figure.
“Bobby there’s another one in here,” Kyle spoke. Pointing at a figure.
“I’ll get him out, and you go get her,” Bobby ordered. Kyle nodded. Carefully walking over to the figure. While Bobby picked the guy up, pulling him out of the building.
Kyle gasped as he took in the figure. It was a woman. Her face was littered with scratches. Not only was her face littered with scratches but there was blood on her face. he put two and two together, they were keeping this woman hostage.
He quickly picked her up carefully, walking out of the building. Glaring at the woman and the guy in the stretcher. Bobby looked up.
“Oh my god,” Bobby gasped out.
The woman looked up from her father. The other paramedic saw Kyle take another victim out. Rushing over to the back of the ambulance van, taking out another stretcher.
“Where you holding her captive?” Kyle spat out. As the other paramedic bought the stretcher over to Kyle. Kyle placed the woman delicately down on the stretcher. While the other paramedic checked the women.
“What?” The daughter of the elderly guy gasped out.
“She’s going to have to go to the hospital, she has a collapsed lung, among other things,” The paramedic spoke. The other paramedic nodded.
Both of them taking you and the elderly man to the back of the ambulance van. Kyle following.
“I’ve never seen that woman in my life, let alone knew she was in the barn,” The women gasped out. Holding her father’s hand,
“Well, then your father knew, maybe tried to hide the evidence of his crime,” Kyle spat out. as they loaded you in then the elderly man. The women hopping in a well.
“I’m not leaving you alone with her,” Kyle growled out. hopping into the back of the ambulance van as well. One of the paramedics hopped in, while the other one shut the doors. Going over to the driver’s side. Opening the door and getting in. they closed the door. Starting the ambulance van, then switching the siren on as they speed off to the hospital. Pressing their foot hard on the pedal. All the while Kyle glared at the women. Praying the woman he thought that they abused was okay…
Kyle felt relief wash over him as the ambulance stopped in the emergency parking space.
The other paramedic rushing out of the driver’s side, opening the doors. Both of them taking out the stretchers.
“You are going to pay for this,” Kyle growled out before he exited the back of the ambulance van…
 • ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Kyle could hear his heart beating as every second went by. His chest felt heavy with anxiety, as he waited for a doctor or nurse to tell him the condition of the woman he saved. Or at least give him some sort of update. He had been waiting in the waiting room for hours.
Other people who were waiting as well, came and left.
He should have been at work, but he couldn't. He had to know the condition of the woman he saved, or at least her name.
Kyle heard footsteps approaching. Relief washed over him. thinking it was a doctor coming to inform him of the condition of the woman he saved, when he looked up it was his friend Adam, who happened to be a detective. Coming over to him.
“Hey,” Kyle spoke, sitting up straighter. As Adam stood in front of him.
“Heard you made quite a scene,” Adam spoke. Arching an eyebrow.
“Well, you would to if you found a battered and bruised woman in a barn, that was set ablaze, for all I know he was trying to cover his crime up,” Kyle grumbled out. Adam sat beside him.
“You don’t know that Mr. William isn’t that type of person,” Adam Sighed.
“People surprise you, Adam, you should know that,” Kyle grumbled. Adam just raised his eyebrow.
“Look Kyle I get you want to be a hero but you can't accuse someone especially a burn victim of abusing a woman, we haven’t heard the entire story yet,” Adam sighed.
“Like I said before people surprise you,” Kyle grumbled. Adam let out a long sigh. Resting his hand on Kyle's shoulder and squeezing it.
“Let the evidenced do the talking. Just stay out of it,” Adam warned. Letting go of Kyle’s shoulder and getting up. Leaving Kyle to glare at his back as he walked to the nurse's station. Asking the nurse where the room of the woman Kyle found was located in. The nurse quickly gave Adam the number for the room. Giving him a flirty smile. Adam smirked at her. Sending a wink her way as he walked off. walking to the room.
Adam pushed the door open. Smirking as he saw Doctor Rhodes.
“Connor,” Adam smirked. as he took a step forward. His eyes looking at the woman in the bed. She looked awful. There was a bandage wrapped around her head. A scatter of scratches on her face. her lip was busted, her left arm was in a sling, and her left eye was swollen.
“Cole,” Connor responded not looking up from the tablet. It was no secret Adam and Connor butted heads. Connor wasn’t Adam’s biggest fan, and Adam wasn’t Connor’s biggest fan either.
“So, how’s the patient? Is she going to wake up soon, hopefully sometime soon?” Adam asked. Making Connor’s jaw tighten. “She’s been through a lot, I put her induced coma, she’s lucky she’s even alive, she has a collapsed lung, broken arm, head trauma, not to mention…” Connor listed off only to get cut off by an impatient Adam.
“Yeah, yeah, just give her something to wake her up, so I can get answers out of her, then you can put her back in an induce comma,” Adam grumbled. Looking at Connor intensely. Connor’s jaw ticked.
Connor let out an annoyed huff. Putting the tablet down. giving Adam his full attention. His eyes were lit with fury. Blood boiling.
“Get out,” Connor shouted. Making Adam smirk.
“She’s a suspect,” Adam smirked. riling Connor up.
“She’s a victim, and she’s my patient, I’m not waking her up so you can grill her, come back when she actually wakes up,” Connor shouted. Nostrils flaring.
“Well, are you going to give me a set date on when you are going to take her out of the comma?” Adam asked.
“I’ll get one of the nurses to inform you when she wakes up on her own accord, till now leave,” Connor growled. Making  Adam smirk. He turned around walking out of the room.
Connor let out a sigh. Walking over to you. His face edged with worry. He took a hold of your hand. His thumb caressing the back of your hand. His other hand went to your wrist, tracing the tattoo on your wrist. he knew that tattoo, he was there when you got it. Connor sat down on your bed beside you. Eyes filling with worry.
“Oh, y/n, what happened to you?” He sighed.
“I should have never left Chicago,” He spoke again, with so much sadness in his voice….
 • ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Connor starred at you intently. He had a feeling your ex might have caused this. Connor quickly let go of your hand when he heard the door to your room open. He quickly stood up. Pretending to look t the tablet. As a male nurse named Rhys walked in. Rhys smiled at him.
“How’s the patient?” Rhys asked. Going over to you.
Connor let out a small sigh. Looking at Rhys.
“Pretty much the same,” Connor replied.
“If it’s any consolation, I think you made the right choice putting her in an induced coma,”  Rhys spoke. Checking the wires that were connected to you.
“Let me guess Adam was complaining about it when he walked out?” Connor questioned. Making Rhys chuckle.
“Yep,” Rhys chuckled.
“Oh, Kyle is still in the waiting room, did you want me to inform him?” Rhys asked. Looking at Connor.
“No, it’s okay I will do it,” Connor responded. Making Rhys smile. Connor smiled at Rhys. Giving you one last longing glance. Before walking out of your room, and over to the waiting room.
Connor spotted Kyle. Making him let out a small sigh.
Connor smiled at Kyle as he made his way over to him.
“Kyle,” Connor greeted. Standing in front of Kyle.
“Is she okay? Is she awake?” Kyle asked frantically.
“She suffered a lot of brain trauma and I had to put her in an induced coma,” Connor replied.
Kyle looked down in defeat. Feeling like the whole world was closing around him.
“She’s in good hands,” Connor spoke. Giving Kyle a reassuring smile.
“Did you at least find out her name?” Kyle asked. Making Connor suck in a deep breath.
He knew who you were, but he just didn’t know if he should tell Kyle your name. The problem was Kyle was friends with Adam, who he hated, and who was a cop. Connor had a gut feeling your ex-boyfriend, who happened to be a cop did this to you.
“We don’t know, whoever hurt her removed her fingertips, and tried to make her unrecognizable,” Connor spoke. Making Kyle frown.
“You can see her if you want,” Connor spoke again. Seeing Kyle look deflated.
Kyle lifted his head. Eyes brightening with happiness. He got up.
“Thank you,” Kyle beamed. Connor gave Kyle a small smile.
Connor guided Kyle to your room. Opening the door for Kyle.
Kyle rushed in. Connor followed behind Kyle. Closing the door. Watching Kyle closely.
Kyle looked at you with a pained expression. Walking over to you. Taking in your appearance. It was all too overwhelming. Tears collected in his eyes.
He took a huge gulp before speaking.
“Don’t worry, my friend is a cop, and he will find out who hurt you,” Kyle promised you.
“Or side with her ex,” Connor thought to himself.
Kyle was about to sit down when his phone let out a ping. He quickly fished it out of his pocket. Looking at the phone screen. He had to go back to work. He looked at you then at the screen. Letting out a defeated sigh.
“Can I visit her again after my shift ends?” Kyle asked as he got up.
“Sure,” Connor replied. Smiling at Kyle. Kyle gave you one last final glance before walking out of the room reluctantly….
Adam parked his car next to Roddy’s car. Turning the car off and putting it in park. He put the hand brake up. Taking the car keys out of the ignition. Adam opened the door, stepping out of his car.
Roddy quickly walked up to him. Handing him some disposable gloves.
“Any evidence bagged yet?” Adam asked. As the two of them walked over to the burnt-down barn.
“No, everything is burnt,” Roddy spoke. Adam let out a grunt of annoyance.
He was about to speak, but the sound of a car engine coming towards them. Made him turn his attention towards the noise.
Adam saw Kyle get out of a taxi. Giving the taxi driver a couple of notes through the window.
Bobby quickly walked up to Kyle. Greeting Kyle.
“Hey man, how is she?” Bobby asked. Giving Kyle a big hug.
“In a coma,” Kyle responded. As Bobby pulled away.
“I’m sure she will pull through,” Bobby spoke. Putting his hand on Kyle’s shoulder.
Whatever Kyle was about to say was interrupted by the sound of someone talking.
“I found something,” Another cop spoke. Near the wooden fence.
Roddy, Adam, Bobby, and Kyle quickly rushed over.
The cop pointed at the fence. Adam smirked as he saw blood on the wooden fence. He felt confident it was the mystery woman that was lying in the hospital and that Mr. William didn’t hold the woman captive as Kyle claimed.
Adam turned to Kyle with a smug look. Making Kyle narrow his eyes slightly. Bobby and Roddy looked back and forth between Adam and Kyle.
“There's your evidence that Mr. William didn’t hold the woman hostage,” Adam spoke smugly. Making Kyle’s jaw clench slightly.
Adam turned his attention back to the cop.
“Bag it,” He spoke before walking off. Kyle glared at the back of Adam’s head.
It could be the blood of the woman he rescued or an injured animal, he thought to himself…
Chapter Text
 • ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
It’s been two weeks since they found a bloody and bruised woman in Mr. William's barn.
Adam exhausted all leads. The blood they found wasn’t human, it was animal blood.
Adam tapped his fingers impatiently on his desk. Looking at the results from the blood they found two weeks ago. He put the piece of paper down. Letting out a frustrated groan.
“How about we get a warrant or something so we can get her blood?” Roddy suggested. Looking up from the PC screen.
“I have a better idea, we wake her up, grill her till she breaks,” Adam suggested. Making Roddy look at him with concern.
“Are you sure?” Roddy asked. Voice laced with concern.
“Unless you want an innocent man wrongly accused, we have no other choice, plus I think it’s time for her to wake up, I’m sure she would remember now, she’s been in a coma for two weeks,”
“How do you know she will remain; they say she has had brain trauma,” Roddy spoke.
“Because it is our only option,” Adam grumbled. Getting up and grabbing his coat. Roddy let out a sigh. Getting up and following Adam…

Kyle smiled at the barista as she handed him a water bottle and a sandwich he ordered. He turned around, only to bump into a woman.
“Sorry,” Kyle apologized. Giving her a small smile. His smile dropped as he realized who it was. It was Mr. Williams, daughter.
“You should be, because of you everyone in this town thinks my father hurt that woman, that he held her hostage, that he tortured her,” She growled out. Tears collecting in her eyes. She looked like she hadn’t slept in weeks. Or if she, did it must have been a few hours. She had dark circles underneath her eyes.
“Well, what else was I supposed to think, she was injured,”  Kyle snapped.
“Are you just being petty because I broke up with you?” She growled out. Through clenched teeth.
“That has nothing to do with it,” Kyle snapped. Glaring at her.
“Well, I hope you are proud of yourself, my father literally had a heart attack,” She snapped. Spinning on her heel and walking away…

Adam walked into the hospital. Looking around the hospital in search of Connor. Adam walked over to the nurse's station. Smirking as he saw it was the nurse that always flirts with him. Roddy followed behind him.
“Where’s Doctor Rhodes?” Adam asked her.
“In surgery why?” She asked. Batting her eyelashes.
“No reason,” Adam smirked. Giving her a charming smile before turning around and walking to the unknown woman’s room.
Adam looked around before entering the room. Seeing if the coast was clear. Roddy followed behind him feeling slightly unsure if they should do this. He tried to talk Adam out of it on the way to the hospital, but Adam didn’t listen.
Adam took out a needle, with a liquid substance.
“Where did you get that from?” Roddy asked. Eyes widen in shock.
“A friend,” Adam responded. Walking over to you. He took the cap off the needle. Putting the needle into your cannula.
Adam smirked as he put the liquid substance into you. Roddy felt his heart rate quicken. Gulping as he felt like this was all a bad idea.
Your eyes opened wide. Looking around the room to see two male figures looking at you. You saw two figures standing there. Eyes widen in fear as you saw a police badge on their uniforms. Your mind quickly flashed to the nightmares you were having. The guy who beat you up had a badge. The sound of the machine monitor beeped loudly and rapidly. Roddy felt worried thinking it was the liquid substance that was affecting you. Maybe you were having an allergic reaction…
 • ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Adam got up in your face. Making you gulp hard.
“Do you remember what happened to you?” Adam demanded. Making you move your head to the side. Adam’s eyes sparkled dangerously. He grabbed your chin hard. Roughly pulling your head to face him. The sound of the machine beeped faster making Roddy panic.
“Dude, just leave her alone,” Roddy sighed. Grabbing Adam’s shoulder and trying to pull him away. But Adam fought against him. Shrugging him off.
You tried to reach out to the button. But Adam grabbed your hand tightly. Making you whimper. Tears gathered in your eyes. As your heart rate speed up the machine beeped frantically.
Was he going to hurt you like that other cop was doing in those dreams you had?
“Tell me,” Adam demanded.
“I don’t remember,” You weakly gasped out. voice trembling with fear.
“Adam,” Roddy warned. Feeling worried about your safety. Yes, they needed answers. But scaring you to answer wasn’t the right solution.
“What the hell do you think you are doing?” Connor shouted. Looking at Adam and Roddy with fury in his eyes, but mainly Adam.
“Just getting answers, I mean it’s been two weeks since she came here, I want to know who our mystery woman is, don’t you?” Adam smugly spoke. Making Connor’s blood boil. While Roddy just shook his head disapprovingly.
“Are you insane, she has had a traumatic brain injury, she needs rest,” Connor growled out. Taking a step closer to you. Adam let go of you. making your heart rate decrease. You cast your gaze down.
“She woke up on her own,” Adam spoke. Connor gave Adam a sarcastic smile. Not believing a word he just spoke. Roddy shook his head no.
“I’m sure she did. Get out,” Connor spat out. Making Adam smirk smugly.
“I’ll find answers, and if you get in the way again I won’t hesitate in charging you,” Adam threatened. Glaring at Connor. Connor glared back at him.
Adam broke eye contact smirking.
“Come on, Roddy, see you later sweetheart,” Adam spoke sweetly. Patting your hair. Making you flinch.
Adam smirked at Connor as Roddy and he walked out of the door.
A whimper caught Connor’s attention.
“Are you okay?” He asked. Eyes full of worry. He quickly checked on you.
You looked at him intensely. Studying his features. He was gorgeous. You felt your breath hitch as he leaned closer. Shining his torch in your eyes.
He was about to speak but you cut him. Something about him made you want to tell him the reoccurring dream you kept having while sleeping. Well, it was more like a nightmare. Like he would keep you safe. that you could trust him. Heck, you would tell him your darkest secrets if you could remember them.
“I think I know who hurt me… when I was asleep, I kept having these vivid images of this guy attacking me. He hurt me so cruelly. And I saw a police badge,” You confessed. Your voice was above a whisper.
Connor looked at you with a heartbroken expression. Making your forehead crease with confusion. Why was he looking at you like that?
He grabbed your hand. Sitting down on the bed. His eyes gathering with tears.
“I don’t want to freak you out too much, but…” Connor spoke. Taking a deep breath before he spoke again.
“I know you; I know who did this to you,” He confessed. Making your breath hitch. Your mouth opening in shock. Eyes locked onto his.
“What’s my name?” You barely gasped out but he heard you somehow.
“Y/n l/n,” He responded.
“I’ll tell you anything, whatever you want to know I will tell you,” Connor spoke, looking at you with concern in his eyes…
 • ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You looked at Connor in shock. Your brain processing the words Connor spoke. Connor looked at you with a worried expression. While you looked down at the sheets.
You looked up at him. Parting your lips.
“Tell me more,” You gasped out. Heart beating faster.
Connor let out a sigh. Inching closer to you.
“You are from Chicago,” Connor started to say. Smiling slightly.
“You have two brothers, Will and Jay. Jay is actually your twin,” Connor told you.
“Twin? I’m a twin,” You gasped out in disbelief. Making Connor smile.
“Not identical though,” Connor chuckled. As a small smile graced your lips.
“You did have a boyfriend, but you dumped him, then got together with another man, which no one knows what he looks like, other than his name, which is Roman,” Connor spoke again.
“Oh, do you think he did this to me?” You asked. Heart plummeting as you waited for his response.
Connor let out a sigh. Casting his eyes down. his thumb absently caressing his thumb across the tattoo on your wrist. your eyes traveled down to where his thumb was. Sparks igniting in your body at his touch.
“ I think he did, I wouldn’t put it past him,” Connor finally spoke. Looking up at you. making your breath hitch.
“But the guy I saw in my dreams had a badge,” You gasped out.
“Yeah, your ex was a cop, wait you had dreams about what happened to you?” Connor spoke.
“Yeah,” You spoke quietly. Connor looked at you with concerned eyes.
“Your brother is a detective, didn’t like your ex-boyfriend, thought he was a corrupt cop,” Connor told you.
“Will or Jay?” You asked.
“Jay, Will is a doctor, and well you are a nurse, Will also hated your ex as well,” Connor replied. As you looked at him. Hanging on his every word.
You didn’t want to hear more about your abusive ex, so you changed the subject.
“What about us? How do we know each other?” You asked. This question seemed to throw Connor off guard. He looked at you with wide eyes. A shocked expression on his face. You raised your eyebrow at him.  Wanting to know why he had that reaction.
It made you want to know the answer even more. Obliviously something went down between the two of you. Since he got nervous under your gaze. He looked away, delaying his response.
“I didn’t ask how you are feeling?” Connor asked. Avoiding your question by asking a question of his own.
This made you want to know even more.
“I’m fine, but you didn’t answer my question,” You spoke.
Connor ignored the last word you spoke. Taking his stethoscope from around his neck. He put the earplugs in his ear. Grabbing hold of the bell. Bringing it towards your chest. You grabbed his wrist, stopping him. Connor’s breath hitched at the contact of your skin on his.
He took a deep breath before speaking. Avoiding eye contact.
“We were friends… best friends,” Connor spoke. You gave him a confused look at how he was reacting. And how long it took him to reply.
You opened your mouth to speak, but Connor beat you to it.
“It’s complicated, we are best friends, but we had a friend with benefits kind of relationship as well, then it went downhill, then I left,” Connor spoke. Still avoiding your gaze. He looked sad.
“Because of me?” You asked. Voice-breaking. This made Connor finally look at you.
“No,” He responded.
“It wasn’t your fault, I didn’t leave because of you,” Connor spoke again. Grabbing a hold of your hand. Both of you gazing into each other’s eyes.
Just as you were about to speak the door opened. Making Connor get up. He stood up. Looking professional, as the nurse made her way into your room.
She arched her eyebrow at Connor.
“Just checking on our mystery patient,” Connor spoke.
“Your up,” She spoke. Directing her gaze at you, then back at Connor when he spoke.
“No thanks to Cole,” Connor grumbled. The nurse gave a forced smile. You could tell it didn’t reach her eyes.
“Doctor Cooper wants you for a consultant on one of his cases,” She spoke. Giving Connor a fake smile. Connor looked annoyed. He gave her a fake smile too. Before looking at you. Giving you a genuine smile.  You could sense the tension between them.
“I’ll see you later,” He spoke. Giving you a sincere smile, before walking out of the room.
“So… what were Doctor Rhodes and you talking about?” She asked.
‘Not much, just asked if I could remember what my name was as well as if I could remember what happened to me?” You spoke. Lying to her. As she checked in on you.
“He seemed pretty close,” She spoke.
“He was just checking in on me,” You spoke. Making her give you a fake smile.
“Okay, I’ll check in on you later,” She responded. Giving you another fake smile, as she exited the room.
She quickly walked over to the nurse's station. Taking out her phone. Unlocking her phone. She quickly went into the messaging app. Pressing the conversation she had with Adam.
No budge. Though Connor and she seem pretty close She sent to him…
Adam gripped his phone tighter as he reread the message over again. He let out a grunt of annoyance. He was about to reply when the door to his office opened. Mr. Williams Daughter storming in. Roddy trailing behind her. Adam gave her a forced smile. Adam placed his phone on his desk.
“How can I help you?” Adam asked.
“Of course you are just sitting there doing nothing, you should be grilling that woman,” She snapped. Fists clenched.
“The truth will come out, we are doing everything we can, ” Roddy reassured her. But she just turned around to face him. giving him a deadly glare.
“My dad isn’t a kidnapper or abuser,” She snapped. Storming out of the office.
Adam picked up his phone. Typing a message furiously.
Spy on them. Listen in on their conversations, report back to me.
Adam smirked as he sent the message. He would find out who that woman was…
 • ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Kyle felt anxious as he walked into the hospital. Fidgeting with his fingers. He heard through the grapevine, well Adam, the woman he saved was awake. Kyle wanted to visit her, to see how she was.
He walked over to the nurse’s station. He smiled nervously at the nurse. Who happened to be the nurse Adam flirted with.
She gave him a fake smile, which didn’t ease his nerves.
“Let me guess, you are here to see the woman you saved,” She spoke. Giving him a teasing smile.
“Yeah, I heard she was awake,” Kyle spoke.
“You can go see her,” The nurse spoke Kyle gave her a small smile, before turning around and walking to your room.
The sound of the door creaking made you snap your head away from the TV screen to look at the person who entered your room. You hoped it was Dr. Rhodes. But it turned out to be a stranger. You gave him an anxious look as you took in his features. He had brown eyes, a red beard, or maybe it was auburn and brown hair.
Kyle took notice of you looking at him cautiously.
“I’m Kyle, I saved you from the burning barn,” He spoke gently.
“Oh, well, I would tell you my name, if I could remember it,” You lied. You did know your name, you just didn’t know who you could trust other than Doctor Rhodes, which he is yet to tell you his first name.
Kyle let out a chuckle. Grabbing the chair and bringing it to the side of your bed. He sat down. Grimacing at the discomfort. Making you arch an eyebrow.
“You look better than when I first saw you,” Kyle spoke softly.
“Mmm, I don’t feel it, my head is pounding, I look like I’ve been through hell,” You whined. Pouting at him. Kyle smiled.
“But you are alive, that’s the most important thing,” Kyle spoke.
“I suppose, but my head is killing me,” You whined.
“Do you want me to go get a nurse? Maybe they can give you something?” Kyle spoke in a worried tone.
“Nah, pretty sure she hates me, I’ll be fine,” You gasped out. Bringing your uninjured hand up to your forehead.
Kyle felt his heart hurt as he watched you wince in pain.
“Do you remember anything?” He asked. His tone was sweet and caring.
“Just running through bushes and trees, then seeing the barn,” You reply. Eyes widening as you realized you might have revealed too much. Maybe it was how he asked you. Maybe it was those brown eyes staring intently into your soul.
Before Kyle or you could utter a single word the door to the room opened.
“Hey, y/n we’ve…” Connor started to say but stopped when he saw Kyle sitting next to your bed. Jealousy spiked inside of him. His jaw slightly clenching. The reaction didn’t go unnoticed by you. Maybe Kyle but not you.
“Oh, I didn’t know you had visitors,” Connor spoke.
“I just heard she was up, and I wanted to check in on her,” Kyle nervously replied. It was cute. Connor gave Kyle a forced smile.
Kyle seemed nervous.
“Um, I’ll see you soon,” Kyle spoke. Looking at you with a nervous smile, as he got up. You gave him a small smile in return. Watching him walk out of the room.
Your gaze returned to Connor. Giving him a pointed look.
“You seem jealous,” You pointed out.
“I’m not, I’m just worried,” Connor spoke defensively.
“Mmmhm…” You responded. Letting out a gasp of pain as your head throbbed.
Connor rushed over to you. Panic evident on his face.
“Are you okay?” Connor asked.
“Other than feeling pain in my head and body, yeah, I’m peachy,” You grunted.
“Carson is supposed to be giving you pain meds, damn it,” Connor grumbled at the nurse’s failure.
You gave him a quizzical look. Who was Carson?
‘Who’s Carson?” You asked. Voice sounding harsher than it was meant to be.
“The nurse that comes and checks in on you,” Connor responded.
“Oh,” You mumbled.
“I was going to clear you, but…” Connor started to say but you cut him off.
“I’m fine, it’s just pain,” You cut Connor off.
“You have had a traumatic experience,” Connor explained.
“I’m fine,” You huffed out. You would cross your arms if you could. So instead, you just pouted like a toddler who didn’t get their way.
Connor was about to speak but you cut him off.
“Please, clear me, I can’t take the taste of hospital food anymore, I mean the ice cream is great, don’t get me wrong, it’s the only highlight, but I’m bored sitting here,” You whined. Making your headache even worse.
“Ouch, and here I thought I was great company,” Connor fake sighed.
“You are…It’s just this hospital is driving me insane,” You huffed out.
“You’ve only had hospital four times,” Connor chuckled. While you just intensified your gaze. Pouting at him.
“Okay, fine, I’ll run a few tests before I give you the all-clear,” Connor spoke.
“Can’t we skip the tests?” You begged. Giving him a puppy dog look.
“Tests or hospital food for another week,” Connor spoke sternly. Making you let out a whine.
“Fine,” You sighed.
“And you are staying with me when I discharge you,” Connor spoke. Making your heart skip a beat.
Neither Connor nor you noticing Carson outside the door. She took her phone out of her pocket. Unlocking it. She quickly went into the messaging app. Clicking on the messages she had with Adam.
She’s being discharged. Staying with Connor. Kyle visited her btw, maybe you can use him as a pawn to find more about her.
 • ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
After hours of CAT scans, MRI scans, CT scans, an echo, blood testes among other tests, among other tests, you were grateful that you didn’t have to take anymore. All you had to do was wait for the results.
Connor walked into the room with a huge smile on his face. Holding a bunch of clothes in his hands. you quirked an eyebrow.
“I got the results back, and you are in the clear, there were a few things that were a bit concerning but as long as you get psychotherapy to gain some of your memory back,” Connor spoke. As you smiled brightly at him. You sat up.
“Finally,” You beamed.
“I got a nurse to get you some clothes to change into, I got Rhys to buy some for you,” Connor spoke.
“Oh,” You spoke. Having no idea who Rhys was.
“He is one of the nurses who work here, and my friend,” Connor spoke. Connor placed the clothes on the bed. As you pushed the blanket back.
Connor’s hand rested on your lower back as you tried to get up. Connor assisted you.
He felt panic rise inside of him as you wobbled a bit. Your hand grabbed his arm for balance.
“Are you going to help me change?” You joked. Making Connor’s face turn red. He awkwardly scratching the back of his neck.
“Do you need help? Because I can get a nurse to help you,” Connor spoke.
“I’ll be fine,” You responded. Giving him a small smile.
Connor arched his eyebrow at you. Looking at where your hand was holding his arm for support.
You quickly took your hand away from his arm. Feeling slightly embarrassed.
“Alright, I will go get my stuff, then come back,” Connor spoke. Giving you one last longing glance, before walking out of your room.
You slowly took small steps towards the clothes. Slowly undoing the hospital gown. You cautiously put the clothes on that Connor gave you.
Just as you put the sweater on there was a knock at the door. Making you turn around.
“Come in,” You called out. Connor walked into the room. An amused smile gracing his lips as he held onto the strap. Keeping it from slipping. He was dressed in dark jeans, a top, and a black leather jacket. You quickly adverted your eyes back to his.
“Don’t laugh, It’s not my fault I have a sling,” You spoke in a pouty tone. Pouting at him. Connor let out a laugh. Walking closer to you.
“I’m not, I just think you look adorable, I discharged you while I was waiting for you to get changed,” Connor spoke.
“What would I do without you,” You jokingly spoke.
Not get beaten up by your toxic abusive ex-boyfriend, Connor thought to himself. He wanted to say that, but instead, he said something else.
“You ready to go?” Connor asked. Making you nod enthusiastically.  He quickly walked to the door opening it for you.
You quickly walked towards him.
“Thank you,”  You spoke. As you walked past him and out the door. Connor followed behind you. Catching up with you. you followed him out of the hospital and towards a car park. Which you assumed it must have been staff parking.
Connor took out his car keys. Stopping at his car.  He quickly unlocked the car.
“Fancy car,” You commented on his car. Connor let out a chuckle.
“Well, it’s nowhere near as cool as what your car is,” Connor spoke.
“Shame I can’t remember it,” You sighed. Pouting at him.
“It was a Jeep Wrangler, the newer version,” He responded. Opening the car door for you.
“And he is a gentleman too,” You praised him. Making his cheeks blush. You may not remember the history he and you shared, but he did.
You quickly got in. Connor shut the door. Rushing over to the driver's side. Getting in and putting his bag in the back. Connor put the keys in the ignition. Turning the car on. Putting his seat belt on. Connor put the handbrake down, then put the car into reverse. Backing out of the car park. He put the car into gear then speed off.
Connor glanced at you now and then seeing you take in the surroundings. Connor smiled slightly. His heart hurting at what you have been through. He wishes he stayed in Chicago, he wished you at least called him and told him what your ex did to you.
Connor drove into a driveway of an apartment complex. Stopping in front of a garage.
“You live in here,” You gasped out. Mouth a gap.
“Yep,” Connor chuckled. Grabbing a remote from the center console. He pressed a button making the garage door roll up. Connor drove in. Pressing the closed button on the remote button. The roller door closed.
Connor chuckled at your reaction. Finding a parking spot. He quickly parked in the spot. Putting the car into park. He pulled the handbrake up. Turning the car off. Connor turned his body. Reaching in the back to grab his bag. While you exited the car. Connor took the keys out of the ignition. Getting out of the car. He quickly got out. locking the car.
“Come on, I will make you a nice dinner,” Connor spoke softly. You quickly followed Connor. Stopping behind him as he pressed the elevator button. The elevator chimed, as the doors opened.
Both of you walking in. Connor pressed the button to the top floor.
“So, is anyone living with you like a significant other?” You questioned.
Connor shook his head no.
“I haven’t been in the dating scene or been with anyone since Chicago,” Connor spoke awkwardly. The air in the elevator getting thicker.
“Really,  because your hot and a doctor, plus you seem nice, least with me,” You spoke. Connor gave you a small smile.
The elevator dinged as it reached the top floor. Connor quickly exited the elevator. You quickly followed him. walking down the hallway in silence.
You felt slightly worried you may have stepped over a line.
“I’m sorry about that, I just…” You apologized only for Connor to cut you off. As he stopped in front of a door at the end of the hallway. Taking out keys. He put them into the keyhole. Turning it.
“It’s okay,” Connor spoke. As he grabbed the doorknob, twisting the doorknob. Opening the door.
“I…Wow,” You gasped out as you saw the city lights out of the window.
“So pretty,” You gawked out. Rushing over to the window. Connor let out an amused chuckle. Shutting the door and locking it.
You looked around the apartment in amazement. Connor let out a laugh.
“I’ll show you the room you will be staying in, it has a bathroom,” Connor spoke, as he walked over to a room. Opening a door.
“A bathroom, wow,” You beamed. Rushing over to the room.
Connor smiled at your reaction. He quickly looked away.
“Why don’t you have a shower, I still have clothes of yours that you can change into,” Connor spoke.
“You kept my clothes?” You asked. Arching an eyebrow.
“Yeah, from when you left them at my old place,” Connor mumbled. Cheeks flushing a light shade of pink. Why was he embarrassed he knew you.
“Thank you,” You spoke softly. Smiling at him softly.
“I’m going to make us dinner, clean towels are in the cupboard, Oh, and your clothes are in the tallboy,” He spoke, quickly turning around and walking out the room. Your heart beating wildly.
You couldn’t remember what you had with him, or any previous relationship, but for some reason Connor made you feel something. You felt a spark there.
“He is a doctor and can cook, damn, I missed the mark on that one,” You spoke in a dreamy tone.
You let out a heavy sigh walking into the bathroom. Closing the door. Stripping your clothes off.
Your eyes widen as you realized you have a sling on you. A curse slipped from your lips
“Ah, Connor I have a sling, could you get me a plastic bag,” You yelled out. Waiting for him to respond. But he didn’t.
You looked around the bathroom. Noticing a bathtub.
“I suppose having a bath will do,” You huffed out. struggling to take the rest of your clothes up. But eventually, you got there.
You walked over to the bathtub. Turning both taps on. Checking the temperature. Letting out a satisfied hum when it was the right temperature You put the plugin. Grabbing the shower gel. You squirted a bit in the water. Putting the bottle of shower gel down. You waited for the water to get a certain height; you turned the taps off. Carefully getting into the bathtub…
Connor tried to distract himself with making Spaghetti Carbonara, chopping up mushrooms, and bacon into little bits but failed miserably. You were invading his thoughts. It was killing him how he couldn’t just kiss you, but you didn’t have your memories of what he and you shared, and he didn’t want to scare you, let alone start something knowing you still had a boyfriend.
The spaghetti was already strained. All he had to do was put the sauce in. He poured the sauce into the pot. Putting the mushrooms into the sauce as well as the bacon.
Connor stirred the carbonara sauce around in the pot. Warming the sauce up. His mind wandering back to a memory he had with you.
A giggle escaped your lips as Connor’s beard scratched your neck, as he trailed kisses down your neck.
“We should just call in sick and do this all day,” You suggested. Making Connor look up at you tilting his head. He raised one of his eyebrows. Smirking at you.
“That’s a good idea,” Connor smirked. Pressing his lips against yours. The kiss turning feverish…
“I’m finished,” You spoke, in a sing-song voice. Making Connor jump. He quickly composed himself.
“Oh, smells nice,” You commented.
“Um…” Connor stuttered. He quickly checked if the sauce was warm. Thankful that it was.
“You okay?” You asked. Curious and worried.
“Yeah, you surprised me,” He spoke. Pouring the sauce into the pot that was filled with spaghetti. Connor quickly stirred the sauce around in the pot. Mixing the Carbonaro sauce with the spaghetti.
“Dinners ready,” Connor announced. Walking over to a cupboard. He opened it up, grabbing out two bowls. Connor went over to a draw. Pulling it open. He grabbed two forks. Connor turned around. Walking back to you. he quickly picked the spoon he was using. Putting the food into the bowl, before handing it to you.
“Thank you,” You spoke softly. walking over to the table. Connor joined you a second later.
“So, you said I have brothers what do they look like?” You asked. Breaking the silence.
“Well,” Connor spoke. Kind of getting caught off guard. He put his fork down, grabbing his phone.
Connor unlocked his phone, going into the photo app. He quickly pressed the see all option, scrolling until he found the album titled y/n with a red heart emoji. He quickly pressed that album. Scrolling until he found the picture of Jay, Will and you. While you ate more food.
“You were closer with Jay,” Connor spoke. Showing you the picture. You leaned in closer taking in the features of your brothers. One had brown hair and blue eyes while the other one had red hair with brown eyes.
“Because we were twins?” You asked.
“Probably, he and you had a weird co-dependent type of relationship, which surprises me, that he didn’t know who your mystery boyfriend Roman was,” Connor spoke. Making your eyes squint slightly. Trying to remember what Roman looked like, as well as memories with your brothers but nothing came up. You just made yourself get a headache.
“That’s Jay…” Connor spoke, pointing to the guy with brown hair and blue eyes.
“My twin,” You mumbled. But Connor heard you.
“Yep… And that’s Will,” Connor spoke again. Pointing to the guy with the red hair and brown eyes.
Connor noticed you grimace a bit. Your hand coming up to your forehead. Rubbing it.
“You okay?” Connor asked.
“Yeah, just tried to remember who they were, plus Roman,” You spoke. Rubbing your forehead.
“Leave that to psychotherapy,” Connor spoke. Giving you a small smile. Which you returned it by also giving him a slight smile.
The both of you ate in silence again. After dinner, Connor grabbed the plates, cutlery and pots, putting them in the dishwasher. He went over to the cupboard again. Grabbing a glass. Walking over to the sink. He turned the tap on. Pouring some water into the glass. He walked over to you handing you the glass of water.
“Thanks,” You mumbled. As he walked back to the kitchen island, grabbing a pack of tablets. He opened the box up. Popping two tablets into the palm of his hand, then spinning around. He walked back to you. Handing you the tablets.
“Oh, I’m fine,” You spoke.
“It’s your pain meds,” He spoke.
“Oh,” You spoke. Taking them off of him. you put them in your mouth. Taking a huge gulp of water. As you swallowed them. Grimacing at the aftertaste.
Connor let out a small chuckle.
“You’ve never been good with taking medicine or tablets,” Connor chuckled. His blue eyes staring intensely into your eyes. The intensity causes your lower belly to stir. Breath hitching. You may not remember whatever happened between him and you, but your body sure does.
“So, are you going to tell me more about your scandalous friendship?” You asked. Taking Connor off guard. He turned pale. Beads of sweat forming on his hairline. He scratched the back of his nervously.
“Do you want to watch a movie?” He asked changing the subject.
“Let’s watch a movie,” He spoke. Rushing over to the joint living room. He turned the TV on. Going into Netflix. He quickly picked a movie.
“Okay…” You responded. Getting up and walking over to him cautiously. Sitting down on the same couch he was sitting in. wondering if you may have asked a touchy subject by he reacted. Maybe he just didn’t want to talk about it, maybe it hurt him to bring up the past. But the more you thought about the more you wanted to know more about what happened between him and you.
So you decided to try something. Connor didn’t notice you move closer to him. till he felt your body heat.
Connor turned to look at you. Your hands cupped his jawline. Eyes looking at his intensely. Closing the distance between him and you. Connor was hypnotized. Maybe it was because it has been too long since he felt his lips against yours. But he let you kiss him.
Lips moving together in perfect sync. Both of you feeling the spark. Warmth feeling the both of you. butterflies
Connor quickly realized what you were doing. What he was doing too. He pulled away. A look of pain came across his features. Your face dropped into a look of sadness.
“I can’t go down that road not when you are with another man, and not when you can’t remember the history between us,” Connor quaked out. tears pooling in his eyes.
“How am I supposed to remember someone I have no recognition of, let alone a relationship? I feel something with you it seems familiar,” You gasped out. Tears gathering in your eyes. It broke his heart to see you cry. But he needed you to remember him. it wasn’t fair on him nor you.
“I can’t,” He gasped out. turning around and feeling to a room. He shut the door. Sliding down it. While you sat on the couch. Falling back on the cushions. Bringing your knees up to your chest, and hugging them for reassurance….
  • ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
You let out a heavy sigh as you heard the front door of his apartment close softly.
Carefully pulling the blanket and sheet off your body. Getting up. You walked to the bathroom. Stripping your clothes off. Turning the bathroom taps on. Putting the plug in. filling the bathtub up with warm water, as well as putting shower gel in the water.
You grabbed a washcloth. Stepping inside the water. Cleaning yourself off. Once you finished cleaning yourself, you got out. Pulling the plug out. The water going down the drain. You wrapped the towel around you. Drying yourself off. Then wrapped the towel around you again. You quickly went over to the basin. Brushing your teeth, then cleaning your tongue.
Once you finished cleaning your teeth, you walked out of the bathroom and into the bedroom. Walking over to the tallboy. Opening the draw, that seemed to have your clothes. It hurt your heart that he kept your clothes, yet he doesn’t want to kiss you. You grabbed a pair of panties. Dropping the towel. You put them on with great difficulty. As well as the rest of the clothes. The jeans were the worst.
You let out a sigh of relief. Walking out of the guest bedroom. You saw a note on the kitchen island counter. Walking over to the counter. Reading the words on the note.  Your psychotherapy appointment is tomorrow at 11 am.
You let out a sigh, dropping the piece of paper. He could have just told you that in person and not left it on a note. You needed air. But you didn’t have the keys to the place. You thought about it for a second before deciding to leave. It was the last unit on the top floor, and you could just wait by the door anyways.
You left his apartment. Closing the door. Walking towards the elevator. You pressed a button. Making the elevator make a noise as it went up to the top floor. Doors opening. You quickly rushed into the elevator. You pressed the lobby button. The doors slide closed. The elevator descended, till it reached the lobby. Making a chiming sound. The doors sliding open. You quickly exited. Sidestepping a woman, as she got into the elevator. You felt a little self-conscious as some people in the lobby stared at you. You felt a little relieved as you exited the apartment complex. You looked back at the building to see a name, but it had no name.
“Great,” You muttered to yourself. You hoped you didn’t get lost.
A cool hitting your face. You slowly walked down the sidewalk. Taking in the buildings and stores.
You weren’t really watching where you were going. Running into a woman and a stand of flowers. The flowers cluttering to the floor. The woman cursed.
You got up. Helping her out. The best you could.
“I’m sorry,” You apologized profusely. The woman took a good look at you before letting out an annoyed huff. Making you grumble.
“Course it’s you. Haven’t you done enough?” She snapped. You looked at her confused. Feeling slightly hurt by her words.
You were about to speak when you heard a familiar voice.
“Seriously, Norah, you don’t have to be a bitch, it’s not like she purposely set out to wreck your flowers,” Kyle snapped. Making Norah look at him. Clenching her jaw. Eyes narrowing into slits. You could tell something happened between the two of them.
“Of course, you would defend her, my father isn’t an abuser, he didn’t do this to her,” She growled out. Storming into the flower shop.
“She hates me,” You sighed. Kyle moved to stand in front of you.
“Don’t worry about her, do you want to go get coffee?” Kyle asked. Rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
“On a date?” You asked. Arching an eyebrow. This simple gesture made Kyle’s heart race,
“Just as a get-to-know basis?” Kyle responded. Making you give him a small smile.
“Aren’t you working?” You asked.
“My shift isn’t until later on,” He spoke. Making you smile.
“Okay,” You agreed. Kyle flashed you a smile.
Both of you walked towards a small coffee shop. Taking a seat on one of the outdoor chairs.
“Say if it was a date would you say yes?” Kyle asked. Making you look at him in surprise.
“Well….I mean….I could be in a relationship or married,” You gasped out.
Kyle looked at your left hand. Seeing no ring occupied it.
“I don’t see a ring on your finger,” He replied cheekily. Making you let out a tiny chuckle.
“True… could have slipped off,” You spoke. Making Kyle frown. Before he smiled again. He was about to speak when a waitress came up to the table. Handing Kyle and you a menu each. Kyle and you smiled at her.
“Thank you,” Kyle and you both spoke at the same time.
Both of you looked at the menu, then ordered. The waitress wrote down Kyle’s order as well as yours. Taking the menus from Kyle and you. Telling the two of you that the coffees should be out soon. Then left to go inside the coffee shop
“So… what’s up WITH Norah and you? I mean I get she hates me because of that whole thing with her father, but I feel like there was something more, I felt tension?” You asked. Kyle let out a heavy sigh.
‘She is my ex, long story short, it was a horrible relationship,” Kyle explained. You gave him a sympathetic smile.
“I’m sorry,” You spoke.
“It’s not your fault, we were young and stupid,” Kyle sighed.
The waitress came back with two cups of coffee. Placing them down on the table in front of Kyle and you.
Kyle and you thanked her. Taking a sip of coffee.
“Y/n,” Connor gasped out frantically. Making you turn around. You gave him a slight smile. He looked frantic. Eyes full of worry. Hair was disheveled.
“I’ve been looking for you,” Connor gasped out. While Kyle raised his eyebrow. What has Connor your keeper?
Connor felt intense amounts of jealousy when he saw Kyle and you sipping coffee.
He knew he had no right to get jealous since he rejected your advances last night. But it was only because he wanted you to remember him. Remember what the two of you shared before he goes down that road again or tries something.
You quickly finished your coffee. Giving Kyle an apologetic smile. You got up.
“I’ll see you around,” You spoke. Giving him a soft smile. You turned around. Walking over to Connor.
Connor and you walked away. Leaving jealousy to boil in Kyle’s veins. He felt so crushed as he watched you walk off with Connor….

Adam bought the tip of the beer bottle up to his lips. Wrapping his lips around the tip. Tipping of the bottle up. He chugged on the beer. Giving Roddy a nod, as he sat down on the couch next to him
“Well, today was exhausting,” Roddy sighed. Taking a sip of the beer.
“Yeah, still haven’t made progress with that case,” Adam grumbled.
Roddy grabbed Adam’s knee in a comforting gesture.
“We will find out who she is,” Roddy reassured Adam.
“Hopefully soon,” Adam grumbled. Taking another sip.
Roddy and Adam’s attention turned to the door, as Bobby and Kyle came through the door.
“How was work?” Roddy asked as they dumped the duffle bags they took to work near the hallway
“Eventful,” Kyle sighed.
“You’d think people would learn to turn the heater off by now,” Bobby sighed. As he sat down on one of the chairs. While Kyle walked towards the kitchen to grab beers for him and Bobby.
Kyle came back into the living room. Handing Bobby a beer. Sitting down on the couch. He looking dejected. Kyle twisted the cap off the beer bottle. Adam took notice of his friend's mood.
“Why do you look so down?” Adam asked.
“That woman we found in that barn fire on Mr. Williams farm, I had a coffee date with her, but then Connor came, and swooped her away. She must be staying with him, it’s not like I stand a chance against him,” Kyle huffed out. Feeling slightly better he got that off his chest,
Adam had to stop himself from smiling as he thought of an idea. He could finally find out the identity of that woman.
“You should ask her out again, woo her until she falls for you,” Adam encouraged. Kyle furrowed his eyebrows.
“I suppose,” Kyle sighed. Still not convinced. For one he didn’t have your number. He knew where Connor lived. But he didn’t want to seem desperate.
“Come on man, you’re a catch, don’t put yourself down,” Bobby reassured Kyle.
“I’m sure she sees nothing in Connor, isn’t he, her doctor? Bit unprofessional if he is still her doctor,” Roddy spoke.
“I don’t know they seemed pretty close,” Kyle sighed. Taking a sip.
“Firefighters are way better than doctors,” Adam stated. Arching an eyebrow. Kyle rolled his eyes.
“Look dude, if you like her go for it, you haven’t dated anyone since Norah, I want you to be happy, you deserve to be happy,” Adam sighed.
Kyle let out a sigh. Maybe he should ask you out again, try to get out of the friendzone.
“I’ll see if she is free on the weekend. I’m sure she has some sort of therapy, considering what she’s been through,” Kyle spoke.
“That’s my boy,” Adam boasted. As all four of them took sips of their beers.
Adam couldn’t wait to find out the information Kyle would feed him about this unidentified woman….

Jay glared at Austin as Austin took the stand. He had a suspicious feeling Austin knew more than he was letting on. He had a feeling that Austin had something to do with his sister's disappearance, possibly murder. He hoped this inquest unravelled Austin’s lies.
Jay clenched his jaw as Austin started to answer the question. Will spared a glance at his brother seeing Jay fuming.
“I love her, I just wish Roman would tell us where he put her body,” Austin responded to a question Jay wasn’t listening to. Jay had enough. He stood up in a fit of rage.
“We all that’s a lie, I wouldn’t be surprised if you were the one that killed her, you have abused her before. Which is why I think you kidnapped her and murdered her, then pinned it on some mafia boss she was dating,” Jay snapped. Making everyone in the courtroom turned to look at Jay.
“Mr. Halstead, sit down,” The judge spoke. Making Jay let out a grumble.
“No, he is the reason why my sister is missing. Possibly dead, if he claims he loved her so much, then why did he put bruises on her body. Laid his grimy hands on her. He abused her,” Jay snapped.
“Mr. Halstead,” The judge warned him.
“I did hurt her but that was my PTSD, I felt so bad after I hurt her. You should know that since you were in the military,” Austin spoke. Looking sad. Jay knew it was fake.
“Don’t use that as an excuse,” Jay shouted. Fury in his eyes.
The judge ordered the security guards to escort Jay out.
“I’m going to prove it was you, your lies will unravel, and the truth will come out,” Jay shouted as the guards escorted him out of the room.
Jay walked back to his truck. Fishing the keys out of his pockets. Jay unlocked the truck. Opening the door, and getting in. Putting the key in the ignition.
He wished he could have done more. His mind flashed back to when he last had an encounter with you before you disappeared.
“Y/n, open up,” Jay demanded. Banging on the door. You squeezed your eyes shut. Praying he would go away. You didn’t want him to see you with a black eye and busted lip.
Unfortunately for you, Jay didn’t go away. He pulled out the spare key you gave him. Putting it into the lock and unlocking the door. You cursed under your breath. Taking a step back from the door, as he opened it.
Jay’s eyes landed on you. He looked at you with a worried expression
“What happened? Who did this to you?” Jay asked. Looking at you with concerned eyes.
“Was it that new boyfriend of yours, because I swear if he turns out to be another Austin,” Jay grumbled. Concern turning into fury.
“No, it wasn’t Roman,” You sighed. Looking away from Jay. Glancing at the floor instead of Jay.
“It was Austin wasn’t,” Jay assumed.
“Course it was,” Jay grumbled.
“Jay, please, I’m handling it, he must have heard I was dating and he got jealous,” You sighed out. Giving him a pleading look.
“You are not safe from him y/n, let me handle this,” Jay spoke.
“I’m dealing with it,” You sighed.
“How are you dealing with it?” Jay snapped. Making you flinch. His eyes softened. His hands gently resting on your shoulder. Eyes looking into yours.
“I’m just worried one day you are going to end up in a body bag,” Jay sighed. You gave him a small smile.
“I’m going to get through this Jay,” You spoke softly voice cracking.
Jay went back to reality. He wished he did something that day. But he didn’t. But he was going to do something now. He was going to prove Austin killed you.
Jay turned the key in the ignition. Starting the truck. He quickly put his seatbelt on. Putting the handbrake down. then putting the transmission into gear. Jay pressed his foot on the accelerator leaving the courthouse to go to the 21st district.
Once he got there. He parked his truck. Storming into the 21st district. Not saying hello to Trudy as he walked past the front desk. He ran up the stairs. Punching the code word in. jay rushed up the stairs. Going into the bullpen. Hailey, Kevin, Adam, and Kim looked at Jay as he rushed into Hank's office. They all shared glances at each other. Feeling worried for their colleague and friend. Jay’s been on edge ever since your disappearance.
“I need your help, I’m hundred percent certain, that Austin Smith, murdered my twin sister, I saw her the night she disappeared he hurt her, she had a black eye and a busted lip,” Jay spoke.
Hank let out a grunt. Looking at Jay. He could tell this was wearing Jay down. he also had a feeling Austin wasn’t being truthful.
“I believe you, but if we are going to do this, we have to make sure we get hard evidence, bug his phones, keep this operation hush-hush, he is also a cop,” Hank spoke. Making Jay feel slightly better.
“We’re going to get this bastard, he is going to pay for what he did to my sister,” Jay spoke. Hank got up. Gesturing for Jay to follow him. Jay followed him.
“Alright, for now on we have one case and one case only, do not tell anyone else about the details of this case, you will not utter a single word about this case other than to the people in this team,” Hank spoke.
Hank looked at Jay. Jay nodded. Going to the whiteboard and writing y/n Halstead.
“Y/n Halstead, has been missing for a month, presumed dead, Austin blames Roman Reigns a mob boss in Chicago, for the disappearance of Y/n Halstead, Jay last saw her on the night she disappeared, a black eye and a busted lip, now we can assume Roman did it, but Austin has a history of hurting y/n, maybe he took it to far,” Hank spoke.
“We are going to bug his place, all his devices, till he confesses, gear up,” Hank spoke again. Walking out of the bullpen.
The rest of the team followed Hank. Getting ready to plant a bug in Austin Smith's house. The air was tense…
Hailey and Kim rode with Jay, while Adam and Kevin rode together and Hank drove alone.
“We will find her, Jay,” Hailey reassured Jay. Giving him a reassuring look. Jay tightened his grip on the steering wheel. Pressing his foot on the gas more.
“I just want her back,” Jay mumbled.
Kim and Hailey shared a look.
“How did the inquest go?” Kim asked.
“Horrible, he’s trying to play the victim,” Jay grumbled. Feeling slightly better as they all reached Austin’s house. He parked the truck.
Hailey was about to open her mouth when Jay got out of the car.
“He just wants to find her,” Kim sighed. As they both got out.
All of them slowly and tacitly walked to Austin’s house. Hailey, Adam, and Jay going behind the house, while Kim, Kevin, and Hank were out the front. Checking to see if Austin was home. When they found out he wasn’t. Adam picked the lock. Letting out a laugh of victory. Hailey, Jay, and Adam walked into the house, checking the area. Adam quickly went to the front. Opening the front door. Letting Kevin, Hank, and Kim in.
“Let's get in and get out,” Hank commanded. All of them nodded. Going off and placing bugs discreetly.
Once they finished placing the bug they all exited the house, Jay, Hailey, and Kevin going into the surveillance van while Kim, Adam, and Hank got into the vehicles. All they had to do was wait till Austin exposed himself…

You stared at the painting that was hanging in the psychotherapy waiting room. Waiting for your appointment. Technically it was CBT- Cognitive behavioral therapy, at least that’s what Connor told you last night. You were surprised he told you that. He has been acting weird and distant ever since you kissed him.
A woman who looked like she was in her late forties came out of the room. Then another middle-aged woman came out of the room as well. She gave you a warm welcoming smile.
“Come in, my name is Aurella,” She spoke.
You quickly got up. Walking into the room and sitting on the chair. Aurella shut the door. Walking over to the chair in front of you. She sat down.
“So, you’ve been through a lot, and since you suffered a brain injury and a head trauma. Your brain had repressed your memory. I’m here to help you regain some of those memories, like your name, life before coming here, and only if you want to what happened to you that lead you to have such this massive trauma,”  She spoke in a comforting voice. You nodded your head. Giving her a small smile.
“First we are going to start small, we are going to start with your name,” She spoke.
“Lay down, and close your eyes,” She told you. You did as she told you to do.
“Now relax,” She spoke again. You heard paper moving.
“I want you to picture something that makes you feel calm,” She spoke. Looking at your body language.
You tried to relax, but your vision just showed black.
“Some people picture the beach or lying in a field of flowers looking up at the sky,” Aurella spoke.
Your vision slowly picturing the field of flowers. Strolling through the field of flowers, you hear someone call out your name.
“What name do you hear?” She asked.
Your mind pictured you wandering in a field of flowers. A voice saying y/n. you turned around to see a guy with an evil smirk. Your heart racing. You looked down to see blood. You could smell the metallic smell of blood.
Your eyes shot open. Breathing heavily.
“Are you okay?” Aurella asked you. Looking at you with a concerned look.
“Y/n, that’s what I heard,” You told her. Leaving out the part of the guy you saw and the blood.
“Okay,” She spoke. Writing notes down in the book she was holding. She looked back up at you. Giving you a warm smile. As she noticed you looked uncomfortable.
“I’ll see you next week,” She spoke. Standing up.
“It was lovely meeting you,” Aurella spoke. As you got up. She assisted you to the door. Opening the door for you.
“You two,” You responded.
“Take care,” She spoke. As you walked out the door. Giving her a small smile. You walked over to the receptionist. She looked up.
“I have you booked for the same time and day next week. No need to pay Connor, I mean Dr. Rhodes paid for it,” She spoke.
“Thanks,” You spoke. You turned around to walk out of the room, as well as the hospital. Walking through the town.
You saw the flower shop. Your eyes darted around, as you thought whether to talk to Norah. You decided to talk. After that image, you saw you had to tell her. Maybe she would hate you less.
You took a deep breath. Walking over to the flower shop. As you entered the flower shop. The door chimed. Anxiety bubbled up inside of you.
Norah looked up. Her warm welcoming smile disappeared as she realized it was you. She looked angry.
“Norah…” You started to say. But she cut you off.
“How do you know my name?” She snapped out. Your heart quickened.
‘From yesterday,” You gulped out.
“Oh, right, why are you here? What do you want?” She snapped out. Fury in her eyes.
“I’m sorry, for what you are going through, people accusing your father of hurting me, I know he didn’t do it,” You spoke in a soft voice.
“Then tell the cops,” She growled out.
“It’s complicated,” You sighed. She let out an annoyed huff.
Neither Norah nor you noticing someone was listening. Hiding behind the back room. That person happened to be Jey Uso.
Jey’s eyes widened in shock. Mouth a gap. You were alive. He felt a small bit of relief. He had to tell Roman.
‘You know what you can do, go away, everything was fine till you showed up,” Norah snapped.
“I’m sorry,” You gasped out. Feeling tears prick your eyes.
“Why don’t you do everyone in this town a favor and disappear again, this time show up in a town not covered in blood,” She snapped. Storming off.
You let out a heavy sigh. Turning around and walking out the door.
Feeling deflated. You walked down the streets. looking down at your feet.
“Hey,” You heard a familiar voice call out to you. You looked up to see Kyle coming towards you.
“Hey Kyle,” You greeted him.
“How are you doing?” Kyle asked.
“Alright, how about you?” You replied.
“Same, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out again, on Saturday, have some coffee and lunch, at the same coffee shop, only if you want to,” Kyle suggested in a nervous tone.
“Sure,” You replied. Making Kyle smile brightly. You smiled at him.
He took out a piece of paper. Handing it to you. You arched an eyebrow. Seeing numbers on it.
“It’s my phone number,” He spoke.
“Oh, thank you, I don’t have a phone, but I will definitely see you on Saturday, what time?” You asked.
“A bit after eleven,” Kyle responded.
Another voice called out Kyle’s name. Making Kyle turn his attention towards the person who called his name.
Kyle looked back at you. Giving you a warm smile.
“I have to go, I’ll see you on Saturday, take care,” Kyle spoke. Giving you a warm smile.
He took off running towards his friend and co-worker Bobby. Leaving you to stare at the piece of paper that had his phone number on it…

Jey was beyond thrilled his shift at the flower shop was over. He was staying in a cabin with Roman at Norah Williams farm. She told him she needed help at the flower shop. So, he helped her, mainly to get on her good books.
He listened for hours on days while she ranted about this unidentified woman who ended up in her barn that burnt down. Jey thought it was interesting that there was an unidentified woman in the town. Maybe it was y/n since they didn’t find her body. Roman thought Austin killed her given he was the one that saved her from Austin. But Jey believed you were still alive, and he was right.
Jey stopped the car at the cabin Roman and he was staying in. putting the handbrake up. Putting the car in park, he turned the car off. Pulling out the keys. He quickly got out. Rushing out of the car. Slamming the door. He quickly ran to the cabin. Opening the door and slamming it.
Roman looked up from the TV giving Jey an annoyed look.
“How was the flower shop?” Roman asked.
“Interesting,” Jey responded. Walking towards Roman. Till he was standing in front of him.
‘I don’t think anything about a flower shop would be interesting unless you met a woman, who is she? You know we can’t stay long here,” Roman spoke.
“I found her,” Jey spoke. Eyes gleaming. Finally feeling happy he got that off his chest. Unfortunately, Roman thought he meant something different.
Roman rolled his eyes. Letting out a drawn-out sigh.
“Jey, this was a temporary thing, we can’t stay here, break up with her,” Roman demanded.
“I don’t think you understand, I found her,” Jey spoke again. Looking desperately at Roman.
“Well, I’m sure you will find another woman at the next town,” Roman grumbled.
“I found y/n,” Jey slightly shouted. Making Roman’s eyes widened. Mouth a gap.
He stood up.
“But he…” Roman gasped out in shock.
“She’s alive, though I think she was amnesia,” Jey spoke.
“Do you know what this means,” Roman spoke.
“Your innocent,” Jay responded. Roman grabbed Jey’s shoulders. Looking into his eyes.
“We can kidnap her and get out of this town,” Roman spoke. Making Jey look at Roman with confusion.
“But she doesn’t remember anything let alone her name,” Jey spoke.
“Doesn’t matter, I can’t lose her again,” Roman gasped out. Jey gulped before speaking.
“Then when do we do it?” Jey asked.
“We keep tabs on her, and when she is alone, we take her,” Roman spoke. Smiling at Jey. Bringing his hand up to Jey’s face and patting it out…

Carson trailed behind Connor at a safe distance. Making sure she didn't get caught. She saw him go into a room.
She quickly pressed her ear to the door. Listening in on the quiet talking.
"Connor, I can't tell you how she went?' Aurella sighed.
"Please," Connor begged. Aurella let out a sigh.
"Her name is y/n, but I have a feeling she saw something else, just by how she woke up in a fright, I didn't persist because that wouldn't help her, given her current situation," Aurella spoke. Connor felt defeated you didn't remember him yet.
Carson smiled to herself as she found out this unidentified woman's name. She sneaked away, going into a supply closet. Taking out her phone. Unlocking the phone. She went into the messaging app. Going into the convo she had with Adam.
Her name is Y/n, didn't get the last name, but I hope that helps. She typed, then pressed sent.
A few minutes later her phone vibrated. She smiled as she saw his reply.
Thank you, it helps a lot. Adam responded.
She quickly replied with a kiss emoji before locking her phone. Putting it back in her pocket. She composed herself before walking out of the supply closet, getting back to work...

Adam smirked as he reread the text Carson sent him. He finally had her name.
He looked at the screen of the PC.
"I got a lead, found out her name," Adam spoke, as he noticed Roddy walking into his office, holding a paper bag and a box with two coffees in it.
"Really, did she tell you?" Roddy asked. Eyes sparkling with delight. He placed the box that held the coffees on the desk. Putting the paper bag on the desk as well.
"Nah, a CI told me," Adam spoke, as he took one of the coffees, Roddy stopped opening the paper bag. Looking at Adam curiously.
"Right, is this CI Carson?" He asked as he grabbed his food.
Adam shrugged his shoulders.
"Be careful, I know you want to solve this case..." Roddy started to say only for Adam to cut him off.
"And I have, all I have to do is run her first name through the database, filter it to missing cases, and I have her identity," Adam spoke.
"Right, well I'll leave you to it, I'm on my lunch break," Roddy spoke. Picking up the box that only held one coffee cup now, as well as picking up the brown paper bag.
"Call me if you need me," Roddy spoke, as he walked away. Adam moved his hand in a dismissive gesture.
Adam typed y/n in the database, filtering it to missing, a few names popped up. He looked at every single one of them, feeling deflated. Adam pressed on another one. A smile gracing his lips as he saw the woman had the same similar facial features as you.
"Bingo, Y/n Halstead," Adam cheered.
Adam opened another tab, going into google. He typed in Y/n Halstead. Smiling proudly as he saw results. He went into an article. Reading the words that were written, he scrolled down, till he reached a video. Adam pressed play on the video.
A police officer looked up at the camera with sad eyes. Letting out a sigh before speaking.
"My name is officer Smith," Austin spoke voice full of pain. He looked down at the ground, letting out a sigh. He looked back up with glassy eyes.
"Y/n Halstead has been missing for months, her brother Jay was the last one to see her, y/n might be my ex, but I still care deeply for her. Y/n has been involved with Roman Reigns a notorious mob boss, I believe he may have caused her harm or killed her. Unfortunately, we haven't found y/n yet, but we are hoping if we find Roman and his accomplish Jey, we will hopefully get information on where he is holding her or buried her. If you have any information or potential leads please don't hesitate to call this number on the screen, as well as my number which is flashing across the screen. We just want y/n back Roman; we won't charge you if you cooperate," Officer Smith spoke.
Adam quickly paused the video. Grabbing a sticky note and a pen. He saw a picture of a woman showing on the screen as well as the numbers, it looked a lot like the unidentified woman.
He wrote both numbers down on the sticky note. Adam picked up the phone in his office. Calling Officer Smith's phone number.
Adam heard the phone ringing. Officer Smith picked up on the third ring.
"Hello, officer Smith speaking," Austin spoke.
Adam smirked leaning back on his chair, as he looked out the window. He noticed it was night time.
"Hello, officer Smith, this is officer Cole, I think I have some information on your ex-girlfriend, Y/n Halstead, an unidentified woman who came into our town, and after doing a little digging I believe she is Y/n Halstead," Adam spoke.
"Send me the details of your county and I will come," Austin spoke. As Adam smirked not knowing the danger that was laying ahead....

Connor heard muffled crying coming from the guest room as he locked his front door. He quickly rushed into the guest room. Pulse racing.
Connor opened the door rushing inside the bedroom to see you hugging your legs with your uninjured arm. Rocking back and forth. Tears falling from your eyes. Your body was shaking.
"Y/n," Connor called out softly. His voice full of worry, as he cautiously came over to you.
You flinched as he neared you. Letting out a soft whimper. It broke his heart.
"It's just me, Connor," He spoke with a soft reassuring voice. You looked up at him with teary eyes. Lips trembling. It broke his heart even more.
"I remember what he did, what he did to me, how he abused me, how he hit me till I passed out, or maybe he believed I was dead," You sobbed out. Connor looked so heartbroken.
He quickly sat beside you. Wrapping his arms around you. You immediately fall into him. Holding onto him for dear life, as your body trembled.
"I'm here," He reassured you. His hand rubbing up and down your back. Rubbing soothing circles.
Whispering comforting and reassuring words to you. Eventually, your sobs subsided, your eyes growing heavily, slowly drifting back to sleep in Connor's arms.
Connor looked down at you with a sad expression. He was worried about you. Having you in his arms was too painful, especially when you didn't remember him or the history he and you shared. Connor delicately placed you down on the bed. Pulling the sheet over your body. Gazing at you for a second, before he turned around. Quietly walking out the door. He closed the door ever so softly.
Letting out a small sigh, he took out his phone. Unlocking it and going into the contacts. Scrolling down his contacts till he found Jay's contact. Connor pressed on it. Pressing the call icon. Bringing the phone up to his ear.
Connor waited till Jay picked up. When he did, he didn't wait till Jay said anything.
"Hey jay, it's your sister, she came to Florida, all banged up with no memory loss, and I'm worried about her," Connor spoke softly.
Connor heard heavy breathing.
"She's alive..." Jay gasped out.
"Yeah," Connor responded.
"Don't go anywhere I'm coming to get her," Jay spoke. Connor heard rustling on the other end, then a vehicle starting before he heard the phone cut off...

Hailey exited the coffee shop. Holding the cardboard cup holder and a takeout bag. She had to beg Jay to take a break with her. Though he told the rest of the team to keep him informed. Hailey smiled politely at a woman as the woman passed her. Hailey heard a vehicle starting up, as well as tires screeching on the road. Hailey saw Jay drive off in a hurry without her. She quickly went over to a table. Putting the cardboard cup holder and bag on the table. She grabbed her walkie-talkie.
"Jay, what the hell?" She spoke into the walkie-talkie.
"I'm sorry, but I found news about y/n," Jay spoke. Cutting the walkie-talkie off.
Hailey was about to talk again when Kim's voice came through the walkie talkie
"Jay, Hailey, Austin got a call from a Florida police officer that y/n is in Florida,"
Hailey let out a relieved sigh, then felt a wave of anxiety wash over her at the thought of your ex finding you first. Possibly killing you.
"Can you pick me up, Jay must have found out first and left me here at a small coffee shop," Hailey spoke.
"Yeah, sure," Kim spoke, through the walkie-talkie...

You woke up with a gasp. Drenched in sweat. You looked around to realize you were alone. The house was quiet. He either left or was avoiding you or he was working. A frown formed on your lips. You slowly got up. Your temple throbbing as you did so.
You glanced at the alarm clock on the bed. Eyes widening as you realized it was 11:59 am. You quickly got up. Rushing to the bathroom stripping off your clothes. Turning the taps on to the bathtub.
You quickly did your morning routine, then got dressed. Rushing out of the door. You rushed to the café shop. Seeing Kyle sitting at a table. Looking slightly sad. He heard footsteps approaching him. He looked up to see you approaching him. His face lighting up with happiness.
"I am so sorry, I had a rough night, and I overslept," You spoke. Smiling at him.
"It's okay, are you okay?" Kyle asked as he got up. He was going to pull your chair out for you, but you already sat down. Kyle sat back down awkwardly. Ear burning red with embarrassment.
"Yeah," You responded.
"I have some news, Adam found out your name, it is Y/n Halstead, also, your ex-Austin Smith is coming," Kyle spoke. Kyle noticed your whole demeanor changed to a look of pure fear.
Your heart was beating faster. As flashbacks flashed of Austin hurting you. As well as beating you until you passed out. He probably thought you were dead, and now he found you, he was going to kill you.
"I have to go," You gasped out. Standing up abruptly. The chair clattered to the ground. Not that you cared. You rushed off leaving Kyle to look at you with a worried expression. You were not okay...
You ran as fast as your legs could take you. Passing people. Some of them looked at you like you were on drugs.
You felt a hand clamp around your mouth, then an arm wrap around your body. Pulling you closer to their body. You kicked wildly. Trying to free yourself. But they were stronger. They dragged you down the alleyway. You screamed for help. But their hand clamped down hard on your mouth. Muffling your cries for help. You saw Kyle in the distance, but he couldn't see you. Tears fell from your eyes, as they dragged you to the car. What if this person was Austin or someone he paid. Austin lived in Chicago. Surely, he wouldn't have come to Florida that quick.
They opened the back door. Pushing you into the car. They slammed the door shut. Walking to the front driver's side getting in.
You saw two guys turn to look at you. You shivered in fear.
"You're really alive," Roman gasped out. While you just whimpered, tears falling from your eyes rapidly. He reached out to wipe your tears away, but you flinched, moving back. Roman's facial expression turned into a look of sadness.
"Who are you? Are you going to kill me?" You gasped out. Roman looked at Jey. Before looking back at you. Making you even more anxious.
"I'm Roman, we were dating till your ex kidnapped you and tortured you, but your alive now and that's all that matters, this is Jey, my cousin" Roman spoke. Pointing at Jey who was in the driver's side. Roman glanced at Jey. Jey started the car up, the doors locked making you panic. Driving away. You passed Kyle, along the way. Your pulse racing. You didn't have many options, the doors were locked, the windows were tinted dark. Even if you did pound on the window, it's not like Kyle could see you. Your only option was to wait till they stopped at a petrol station and flee...

Austin stepped off the helicopter that landed on a field. He smiled as he saw Officer Cole leaning against a car. He walked over to him with confidence.
Once he reached officer Cole. He stuck out his hand. Shaking hands with him.
"She's living with Connor Rhodes," Adam spoke. Making Austin's jaw clenched tight. Austin smiled at Adam.
"Then we should check there first," Austin spoke. Making Adam smile.
Adam walked towards the driver's side, while Austin walked towards the passenger side. Adam and Austin got into the car. Adam started the car, driving off. Adam sped towards Connor's apartment. Silence settling in.
Adam parked the car in front of the apartment complex. Austin got out before Adam could even utter a word. Adam got out as well. Catching up to Austin. Both took the elevator.
Adam pressed the top floor. Austin and him waiting for the elevator to reach the top floor. Adam could sense Austin was in no mood to chat.
The elevator reached the top floor. The doors slide open. Austin and Adam walked out of the elevator.
"His room is the one at the end," Adam spoke. As they both walked to the last room.
Austin roughly smashed his shoulder into the door. Breaking it. Adam looked surprised at the action.
Austin quickly walked into the apartment. Looking for you. Calling out your name but no answer.
He let out a frustrated grunt. Looking out the window. Clenching his fists. He Saw a few cameras scattered around.
He turned wildly around to face Adam.
"Do those security cameras work?" Austin asked.
"Yeah, I can get the tech to send me the feed if you want," Adam replied.
"That would be great," Austin grumbled.
Adam quickly did what Austin requested. Coming over to Austin once he got the feed.
"The tech guy sent me this," Adam spoke. Showing him the video. It was you running, then a hand grabbed your mouth. Pulling you into the alleyway. A few minutes later a car went out of the alleyway.
"Track the car's plates, put a bolo on that car, it's Roman, we have to save her," Austin ordered. As he exited the apartment. Adam hot on his trail. Doing what Austin asked...
• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Nerves ran through your body, as you made yourself look small.
Roman and Jey were talking amongst themselves. Roman turned around to look at you. He was about to speak when a car crashed into the driver's side, causing such force the car flipped over.
Glass shattered everywhere; the car rolled a couple of times till it stopped on the roof. Roman, Jey, and you all knocked unconscious.
Memories came flooding back to you. Your relationship with Austin, Roman, and you, when he first saved you from Austin, Connor and you having a friend with benefits relationship. Letting him leave Chicago without telling him about your feelings for him, Austin hurting you, walking to this town, your two brothers Jay and Will, everything came back to you in a rush.
Your eyes fluttered open, as you let out a gasp of pain. Everything hurt. Blood crusted on the top of your head. Nose bleeding. You were sure you dislocated your shoulder. Lucky it was the one with the sling.
You looked around your surroundings to realize you were upside down. Your hand reached down to your seatbelt. Undoing it. Suppressing a yelp of pain. If your shoulder wasn't dislocated before it definitely was now that you fell shoulder first onto the roof.
You crawled out of the car. Glass scraping your skin. You staggered to Roman's side. Pressing your index and middle finger against his windpipe. It was faint. Blood was running down his forehead. You looked past him to see how Jey was. Only to see the steering wheel embedded into his stomach. You reached over to check his pulse. But felt nothing. Your stomach turned. You quickly unbuckled Roman. Pulling him out of the car with great difficulty.
Roman's eyes fluttered open. He looked up at you with glazed eyes.
"Roman," You gasped out. Your hand stroking his cheek. Looking down at him with worried eyes.
"Y/n..." Roman grumbled out.
"I remember you," You gasped out. Tears pricking your eyes.
Roman smiled. Before coughing. You quickly accessed his body for wounds. Finding a large piece of glass sticking out of his leg. Before you could treat it, Roman grabbed your hand. Looking at you.
"Is Jey okay?" Roman asked. Making your pulse quicken. You shook your head no.
Roman's eyes watered. He opened his mouth to say something, but a sound of a gunshot rang out. Your eyes widen as you saw a bullet wound in the side of Roman's temple. You let out a scream. Shuffling away from Roman. Breathing getting heavier. You looked up to see your ex- Austin stalking towards you. You quickly got up. Running into the woods. Austin following you.
"You can run but you can't hide," He shouted. As you ran faster. Tree branches scratching your skin, you looked back now and then.
"Come on. y/n, let's finish what we started," Austin shouted. He sounded close. You quickly looked behind you, not noticing a root of a tree sticking out, your foot got caught and you tripped over.
You heard footsteps coming towards you. Looking around. Seeing a thick brunch on the ground. Wrapping your fingers around the brunch. You turned around to see Austin looming above you. You quickly got up. Swinging the brunch hard against his temple. It stunned him. You tried to run away but Austin wrapped his arms around you. Tackling you to the ground with such force it knocked the wind out of you. He turned you around to face him. Sitting on you, so you didn't escape. You tried to escape but you couldn't escape.
Austin looked at you with wild eyes.
"Do it," You growled. Glaring at him.
"I don't want to, but I have to, I love you so much, y/n know that but sometimes you make me angry," Austin spoke. Pressing the muzzle of the gun to your forehead.
Before he could pull the trigger another sound of a gun firing cut through the air. Austin's eyes glazed over as he slumped down on top of you. You quickly pushing him off you.
"Y/n," Jay gasped out. Rushing over to you.
Jay helped you up.
"Jay," You gasped out. As you wrapped your arms around him. Hugging each other.
"I remember..." You sobbed out. As Jay hugged you tighter.
"It's okay, I've got you, he can't hurt you anymore," Jay spoke. Pulling away from you. You nodded. Feeling slightly dizzy.
Jay looked at you with concern. Your eyes rolled to the back of your head as you fainted. Jay quickly caught you picking you up and rushing out of the woods. He didn't stop running till he reached his truck. Opening the back door, place you gently down on the back seat. He closed the door. Quickly going to the driver's side. Opening the door and getting in. shutting the door. Jay turned the keys, putting the handbrake down, he started the truck, pressing his foot down hard on the accelerator. Speeding off towards the nearest hospital. Speeding through every red light.
Jay stopped at the emergency entrance, hopping out and opening the back door. Grabbing hold of you. He rushed into the hospital.
"Help my sister, she fainted," Jay shouted. Nurses rushed over to Jay, taking you out of his arms and onto a gurney. Wheeling you off, leaving Jay to look at the doors they took you through...
Jay sat on the uncomfortable chair, in the waiting room. Waiting for news on how you were. He looked up as he heard footsteps making their way over to him. Jay glared at Connor.
"Jay..." Connor started to say but Jay cut him off.
"You could have called me early when she came into this town," Jay grunted. Standing up.
"Jay..." Connor tried to speak again but Jay cut him off.
"Is she okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, just a concussion, and a dislocated shoulder," Connor spoke. Making Jay sigh.
"You can see her if you want," Connor spoke. Jay nodded his head. As he silently followed Connor to your room. Biting his tongue.
Jay quickly walked into your room. Feeling slightly relieved.
"Hey Jay," You spoke softly. Noticing Connor at the door. Your gaze turned back to your twin brother.
Jay quickly wrapped his arms around you. Making you let out a tiny groan as he bumped your shoulder. Jay loosened his grip. Pulling away and sitting on the side of the bed. Looking at you through tear-filled eyes.
"Come back to Chicago with me," Jay spoke. Your eyes glanced to the door to see Connor wasn't there. Your heart plummeting to the pit of your stomach. You nodded your head. Jay smiled brightly. Glad you were coming home with him.
"I'm going to go get something to eat, do you want something?" Jay asked. You nodded your head no, Jay hugged you again, before leaving to the vending machine.
Jay took out some spare change, putting it into the slot. Pressing the number on the vending machine. Jay's eyes wandered off. Seeing an officer get treated. He quickly grabbed his food, walking slowly. He listened to the conversation. Hearing your ex's name being bought up.
"He crashed into that car," Adam spoke. Jay put two and two together. Anger rising within him.
"I'm so glad you are okay," A nurse spoke.
"You teamed up with my sister's ex, what is wrong with you," Jay snapped. Glaring at Adam, as he stood in the door frame.
"I didn't know," Adam gasped out looking at Jay with a guilty expression.
"I hope you have a bad time sleeping at night," Jay bitterly spoke. Turning around and walking back to your room. Seeing a guy with brown hair holding flowers stand in the middle of the hallway looking into your room, a deflated look on his face. Jay arched an eyebrow. Walking up to him. He looked at what he was looking at, seeing Connor and you talking. Connor was holding your hand.
"Who are you?" Jay asked. Making Kyle jump in fright. Kyle turned to look at the person who spoke to him.
'Kyle, I saved, y/n when she first came here," Kyle responded. Making Jay nod thoughtfully.
"Thanks, but y/n is fine now, she's going back to Chicago," Jay spoke. Making Kyle's heart sink.
"Um, can you give these to her," Kyle spoke, handing Jay a boutique of flowers. Kyle turned around and left, looking dejected.
Jay listened in on what Connor and you were talking about.
"Jay wants me to go back to Chicago though, but to want to give us another try," You spoke. Making Connor smile.
"Me too, I will come back to Chicago with you," Connor spoke. Making you smile.
Jay quickly walked into the room just as Connor and you were about to kiss. Connor and you glanced at him. You arched your eyebrows at him. He shrugged putting the flowers on the side table. He wasn't sure where Kyle and you stood, and he didn't want to jeopardize the relationship that Connor and you had.
"I got you flowers, and also none of that PDA stuff, I just got you back I don't need Connor to hog you," Jay joked. Making Connor and you smile. Letting out a small laugh...

One Chicago X OC, Connor Rhodes x OC, Jay Halstead x OC
Dr. Morgan Fitzgerald is just another doctor at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center and just like the rest of her colleagues, she tries to juggle work, relationships, and secrets from her past, everyday. Arriving in 2012, Morgan has become an important cog in the One Chicago machine and we watch her adventure unfold starting at Season 1, Episode 1 of Chicago Med.
A/N: This is an original character insert into the One Chicago series, primarily Chicago Med. It’s as if Morgan is just another doctor working amongst the main characters in the show. She has her own history and whatnot. I will try my hardest to stay true to the episodes which I picked. That’s right! I choose about 7-10 episodes from all three shows, again primarily CM, and insert Morgan into the works, there is no way in hell I am writing 18+ episodes for each season, there’s six seasons, I mean I could, but I’m not going to. There are also in between parts that take place in between episodes or seasons throughout the entirety (or even before the show), these parts will be in Season Zero and I will inform you of when it takes place in the One Chicago timeline. Specials are imagines, drabbles, oneshots featuring various characters from the One Chicago franchise (and others), but Morgan’s series is my main work for One Chicago. I hope you enjoy Morgan’s story, I’ve been working my ass off for her. Shoot me any questions if you have them.

Chicago Med x doctor!OC Morgan Fitzgerald is a doctor at Chicago Medical, on her sister’s birthday she tries to stay focused on her patients without her emotions getting in the way, but it gets more difficult when a friend is in the hospital and her ex is lurking around. Based off S1E5 of Chicago Med.
5.3k+ Words
Featuring: Morgan Fitzgerald, Will Halstead, Natalie Manning, April Sexton, Maggie Lockwood, Ethan Choi, Daniel Charles, Sharon Goodwin, Connor Rhodes, Jay Halstead, Sam Zanetti, Kelly Severide, Christopher Herrmann Warning: Patient death, some cursing, angst, medical details that may or may not be wrong.  A/N: Sorry I posted later than usual, yesterday was quite the day. Enjoy!
Part One
The morning was running a bit slow, not that Morgan didn’t appreciate it. She didn’t get any sleep last night and the coffee she was sipping was not helping at all. She could barely focus on the notes in front of her as memories of her older sister kept flashing in front of her eyes. Eventually she gives up and tears her eyes away from the glaring screen. Leaning back in the chair, she notices Mrs. Goodwin talking to Detective Halstead and Lt. Severide. She keeps looking for a moment, wondering what they were talking about. Momentarily, the detective’s eyes sweep over the ED’s space and they land on her. She quickly looks back down to the computer and tries to peek from her peripheral to see if he’s stopped looking. He has, but Morgan doesn’t want to be caught looking again so she forces herself to continue looking at the computer screen.
Her attention is brought back up again when she notices the detective walk toward where she was sitting. Her heart rate picks up a little as he nears her, but then she realizes that Will is standing right next to her. The detective doesn’t even take notice of Morgan's presence, and honestly that stung her a little bit. She clenches her jaw and continues forcing herself to look at the screen, when she fails again, she decides to eavesdrop on the detective and Will’s conversation.
“Can I ask you a doctor question?” Jay asks and Morgan notices the familiarity, she knew they were brothers of course, but she only witnessed their relationship a few times before.
“Sure, come on.” The brothers walk away a little to gain some privacy, but Morgan is still able to hear them. As she did move her chair a bit more to the right and turned so that her ear was exposed to them.
“Um, Herrmann?” His voice kind of hesitant
“Yeah,” Will asks, not fully paying attention.
“If he’d come in on your watch, would you have waited so long before doing anything?” It takes so much of the eavesdropping doctor’s will to not turn around and butt in, but she couldn’t. Jay and her weren’t close and eavesdropping on a colleague’s private conversation was not the best course of action.
“That’s a tough call.” Will sighs out. “It’s been a while since my surgical residency. And, you know, I wasn’t there for the exam so it’s hard to say.” Morgan could tell that Will was trying not to insinuate anything negative on Connor’s behalf and she hoped that Jay would take it, but he continues to egg on.
“Yeah, just in general.” He asks and Will basically gives in.
“In general?” He pauses for just a second, “ yeah, I probably would have gone in.” Natalie gives Morgan a smile as she walks by and Morgan almost misses it, but manages to throw one right back at her. “But, uh, again, I wasn’t there.”
At that Morgan scoffs and abruptly stands up, grabbing her tablet. She turns towards the brothers and tries to make a clean getaway, but Will stops her.
“Hey, Morgan.”
Morgan halts and closes her eyes, as if to calm herself, and hopes that something will fall out of the sky and allow her to be taken into a trauma room for treatment, but no such luck. She breathes out and slowly turns towards the Halstead brothers. “Yes, Dr. Halstead?” She questions, trying to keep her eyes off of Jay.
“I’d like you to meet my brother,” he points to the detective who Morgan can tell has gotten a little uncomfortable, but he sports a little grin on his face. “This is Jay. Jay, this is Dr. Morgan Fitzgerald.” He introduces the two, not knowing that they already know each other.
“Hi, Detective Halstead,” Morgan says, the tight smile on her face slightly distorting her words. Jay gives her a look, his eyes quickly darting to his brother, who is oblivious to what is going on. Morgan holds out a hand to him and he takes it, shaking gently.
“Hi, doctor. It’s nice to meet you.” His calloused hand was in hers for a little too long and she could remember the first time they were in hers. The actual first time they met.
December 2013
Morgan’s eyes were cast down to the tablet in front of her, but she was zoning out. One hand was stuffed in the pocket of her white coat, clutching the bracelet that she received for her birthday last year. A gift from her sister Olivia. Hayden had insisted that she stay home instead of forcing herself into work, but she needed a distraction. But now it seemed that it wasn’t working, especially after that last patient. She looked too much like Olivia.
Morgan’s focus continues to deplete as she stared like a statue, a few onlookers getting concerned. Especially Maggie.“Dr. Fitzgerald?” Her name falls on deaf ears as Morgan continues to stare at the screen. “Dr. Fitzgerald!” Maggie’s voice raises and Morgan finally snaps out of her trance.
“Sorry Maggie.” The doctor whips her head up and looks to the nurse. “What do you need?” She places the tablet on the desk and stuffs her hand back into the pockets of her scrubs. Maggie pauses for a few seconds, looking at the doctor with concern before finally turning to face the body behind her.
“This is Detective Halstead, he is on your Jane Doe’s case.” Morgan’s eyes finally land on the freckled man standing behind the charge nurse. Morgan could tell that he was handsome and it stuns her for a minute. He had freckles sprinkled all over his face and soft colored eyes.
It’s his voice that makes her pay attention.“Detective Halstead,” he repeats, holding his hand out for her. She takes it and his hand basically envelops hers. They were warm and calloused and hers were cold and smooth. A slight grin is on his face and Morgan thinks it compliments his face so much more.
“Dr. Fitzgerald.  Morgan.” Their hands finally pull apart and Morgan doesn’t really like the emptiness the action left behind. “Jane Doe is up in ICU, I can take you.” She puts an arm out pointing in the direction towards the elevator and the detective begins walking. Maggie gives Morgan a look, her eyes flashing between the doctor’s tired face and the detective’s receding back. “Thanks for your help Maggie,” her eyes widened, as if she was telling the nurse to stop it.
Maggie just laughs and continues doing her job.Morgan finally walks up to Detective Halstead and presses the up button for the elevator. “So, I’ve never seen you around here before.” Morgan says, her eyes not on Halstead but the descending number as the elevator headed for their floor.
“Yeah, I just started with the Intelligence Unit.” He sheepishly says.
“Well congratulations.” She nods, not sure what else to say. She didn’t understand why it was taking the elevator so damn long to get there. “I’ve been here a little over a year myself. If you ever want a tour of the best places in Chicago, I am your girl.” She says, not knowing that he was also a Chicago native.
“Are you asking me out?” He says, a teasing tone obviously present and an amusing look on his face. Morgan chokes a laugh out, a little surprised and a little flabbergasted. She had no idea what to say cause that wasn’t her intention, but it wouldn’t be a bad thing if they did end up going out. Before she could open her mouth to say anything the bell dings, signifying that the elevator had arrived.
The brunette steps in first as Morgan is still trying to comprehend their conversation. She slowly steps in beside him and presses the button for the ICU’s floor. After a long day of sulking and mourning, a small smile finally shows up on her face as she takes in the presence that Detective Jay Halstead emitted.
Jay squeezes her hand slightly, and it pulls Morgan out of the memory. She rips her hand out of his too quickly after noticing how long she must’ve been holding it. Will actually notices this time and opens his mouth to say something to her, but she beats him to it.
“I’m sorry Jay, but I have a patient to take care of. It was nice meeting you.” before either brother could say anything to her, she turns around and bolts out of the ED.
         ❦
Later on, Morgan is making her way up to Lt. Herrmann’s room to check on him and Connor. She had heard that he was beating himself up about his decision about his patient and it didn’t help that there were others questioning his decision as well. When she arrived at the room, Kelly was also peering in. The lieutenant doesn’t notice her as he’s too busy glaring at Connor.
“You think it might’ve helped if you hadn’t waited so long?” Kelly asks and Morgan’s breath sits in her chest as she throws an accusing look at her acquaintance. He still doesn’t notice her standing next to him.
“Excuse me?” Connor turns, his eyes dashing to you quickly before landing on the firefighter.
“If you’d operated on him when we brought him in. Not waited.”
“Are you talking to me about medicine right now?”
“I’m talking to you about my friend,” Kelly points towards the unconscious Chris.
“Look, I’m gonna say this once, because he is my friend too.” He breathes out “I did what was right.”
“Well, some of your fellow docs don’t agree.”
“Really?” Connor steps closer, and Morgan steps forward as well, ready to throw herself between them if she had to. “Odd that they would share that with you and not me.” The men begin to glare each other down and Morgan forces herself from beside them. She puts herself between them, her back towards Connor and she looks up at the lieutenant.
“Lieutenant Severide, can I have a word with you?” He doesn’t stop glaring at Connor and Morgan can feel the tension continue to rise. “Kelly,” Morgan says sternly and he finally looks at her. She places a hand on his arm, tugs him away from the situation, and to a secluded corner. Connor turns away and walks down the hall, Morgan watches him before he disappears and she turns back to Kelly.
“What the hell was that Kelly?” Her arms are crossed across her chest and she huffs out, an angered look on her face. Kelly looks at her for a second before taking a few steps away. “Kelly!”
“His decision could’ve cost Chris his life! If he had operated sooner, we wouldn’t be in this position!” He practically yells, but Morgan doesn’t jump, instead she keeps her eyes on him.
“And you’re so sure about that?” He gives her a look of disbelief, a scoff escaping his lips.
“Of course you side with him.”
“Really Kelly,” this time she scoffs, “that’s how you want to do this?”
“Yeah, that’s how we’re doing this doctor.”
“Well Lieutenant, last time I checked you were a firefighter, not a doctor. Given the information that Dr. Rhodes had, he made the appropriate decision. A decision I would have made as well.” The agitated firefighter doesn’t look the doctor in the eye, instead glancing to his colleague’s recovery room. “Now questioning a decision that has been said and done will do nothing to help Herrmann, we are doing our absolute best to make sure that he will be okay. Pitting the doctors that are supposed to be taking care of him against each other will not help.” He finally looks down at her, trying to glare her down but she doesn’t back away. “Go walk it off Kelly.” Morgan says with a softer tone, her eyes pleading. And without waiting for a reply from him, she walks away, hoping that her words would persuade him to calm down.
         ❦
Morgan’s staring off into the distance, obviously upset. The day just seemed to dredge on and she constantly found herself thinking about her sister, which work was supposed to distract her from. For some reason, today was different. Her right hand was fiddling with the bracelet, as it always did on an anniversary related to Olivia.
“Morgan, you okay?” Will pulls up next to the distracted doctor, looking down at a patient’s charts.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just lost a patient.” She wasn’t necessarily lying. She did lose a longtime patient to cancer, but she didn’t delve deeper into how the day just seemed to be tainted in death for her. But after all these years Will knew when she was lying, she happened to bite her lip whenever she was.
“Are you sure Morgan, you’ve been a little off today.” He sits in the seat next to her, turning it to have his whole body face her.
“I’m okay Will,” she snaps before taking a deep breath. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” She slips the bracelet into her pocket and Will notices but decides not to push since she seemed to be stressed already. “It just sucks that we can’t save everyone, you know. People keep dying and sometimes all we can do is watch.” She shrugs at the end of her sentence and turns her chair away so that she isn’t facing him anymore. He didn’t know why she didn’t just let him in, they’ve been friends ever since he came back to Chicago and started at Med.
“Morgan–” He isn’t allowed to continue as Maggie’s voice arises from somewhere in the ED.
“Rhodes and Halstead, we’ve got an incoming!” The charge nurse’s eyes on the cube in her hands as she begins directing the doctors.
“Got it!” Rhodes says grabbing some gloves from a box.
“Wanna help us out?” Will asks Morgan, nodding his head towards the doors.
“Sure,” Morgan shrugs nonchalantly. Will nods, still a little concerned for her, but he allows for the two of them to get to work..
“What do we got?” Connor asks as he, Morgan, and Will make their way up to the bay doors. Morgan pulls the gloves on her hands as the paramedic reports.
“25-year-old witnessed seizure in the street. She was clipped by a swerving car. GCS 3, intubated in the field.” They continue moving her deeper into the ED, turning to wheel her into the trauma room. “102 over 60, tachy at 110.”
“Alright, on my count.” Dr. Rhodes starts, “One, two, three.” Together, the team moves her onto the treatment table. “Give me a laryngoscope to confirm the tube. X-rays of the chest and pelvis, then to CT for a pan-scan.”
“Yes, doctor.” A nurse answers.
Morgan has her stethoscope on her chest, listening. “This isn’t a trauma. She went down before she was hit.” Dr. Halstead says to his colleagues hoping that it would change the route of treatment.
“But we don’t know the damage, she was hit by a car.” Connor rebutes quickly.
“Because she had a seizure,” Halstead says back.
Morgan huffs out a breath and focuses on the patient. “She’s tachy. Sats are down.” A nurse says and Morgan nods.
“Alright, let’s give her 500 milligrams of keppra.” Morgan says after viewing her pupil reaction with a light.
“Yes, doctor.” A nurse answers and proceeds.
“She’s got a chemo port.” April points out after cutting the patient’s shirt off.
“I’m telling you, the money’s in the seizure. We gotta figure that out,” Will reassures trying to get Morgan to agree. “Get a CBC, CMP, HCG, and a tox screen. Tell CT we’re going for the head only, not the whole body.” Before April could step away to put in the orders, Connor interrupts.
“No, tell CT that we’re going for the whole body. Now.” The tension in that small treatment room was suffocating for Morgan, if she wasn’t so focused on the patient, she might’ve gone off on her coworkers. “Must be nice, having so many opinions.” Connor bites.
“I have opinions about how I handle incoming patients. I don’t like that QT on the monitor.”
“On it!”
“You by any chance share those opinions with your brother?”
“What, Herrmann?” Will asks, but he knows the answer. “Look, Jay asked, so I told him.”
Before Connor could say something again, Morgan interrupts with a growl, “Boys, not now!” They give Morgan a look, but drop the issue returning their undivided attention back to the unconscious patient.
“What’s happening?” A new voice enters the room and Doris interjects, trying to pull her out of the room. A chime on the monitor goes off and pulls everyone’s attention to it.
“She’s in V-tach!” Morgan states and a nurse gives off her blood pressure. “I can’t get a pulse.
“We need a crash cart, start compressions, now!” Connor orders and Will begins.
“We’re losing her.” The flatline corroborates that statement, but Will continues compressions.
“Charge to 200. Clear!”
Dr. Halsted pulls his hands off of Dani’s chest,“clear!” And Dr. Rhodes shocks her. When nothing happens, Will continues compressions, waiting for the next shock.
“Come on, come Dani.” Morgan watches Will performing CPR. For some reason the doctor’s heart was beating out of her chest, a pit was forming at the bottom of her stomach, she couldn’t lose her.
“Milligram of epi.”
“One of epi.” April repeats.
“Clear!”
Will again pulls his hands off her chest again, “clear!” And they do it again, shocking Dani while her partner pleads from the door of the room. When nothing happens again, this time it’s Dr. Fitzgerald that orders another round of epi, but everyone hesitates.
“Dr. Fitzgerald.” April starts, but Morgan isn’t having it.
“Now.” Morgan steps in the way of Will and continues compressions on the patient’s chest.
“One of epi,” April says, knowing it’s a lost cause.
“Stop compressions,” Connor says after a moment, but Morgan doesn’t stop.
“Dr. Fitzgerald,” Will starts, putting a hand on Morgan’s back, but she continues. “Morgan,” he says softly this time and she finally pulls herself away, staring at the dead patient in front of her. Will gives her a concerned look, as he notices the crumpling look on her face.
“Time of death: 16:21.” At that Morgan lets a breath out and the woman at the door begins to cry. Morgan rips off her gloves and steps out of the room, not willing to see the heartbreaking scene in front of her.
Why did today have to be so suffocating for her? Her eyes begin to tear up and without stopping she lightly jogs out through the lobby to the front of the building. The tears finally escaped down her face. With her hands on her hips, she looks up to the night sky trying her hardest to stop crying and to control her breathing.
“Morgan?” She recognizes the voice and at that moment she wants the world to swallow her whole, she didn’t want him to see her like this. Looking down, she sees Jay Halstead approaching her body and unknowingly she steps back, but he doesn’t seem to notice. “Are you okay?” There is genuine concern in his eyes, they’re gentle and she remembered how much she missed looking into his eyes.
Morgan roughly wipes away her tears and sniffles, not yet looking at him. “I’m fine, Jay.” She pauses, not sure on how much to tell him. “Just lost a patient, that’s all.”
“Are you sure?” He pushes, knowing she’s hiding something.
“Why wouldn’t I be?” She gives him a smile that doesn’t reach her eyes, hell, it barely makes it past her lips.
“You’ve been a doctor for over three years now Morgan, I’ve never seen you react–.”
“Well Jay, we only dated for seven months and you’ve barely spoken to me in the last two years. I’ve changed.” She snaps, interrupting him, trying her hardest to mask any other reason for her to break down this easy.
“You don’t have to talk to me, I get it.” He puts himself in her point of view, forcing her to finally look at him. “But talk to someone, please.” He looks at her waiting for some type of response. Unwittingly, a tear escapes Morgan’s eyes and she hesitantly nods. Jay gives her a soft smile.
“So,” he starts trying to lighten the mood, “you didn’t tell my brother about us.” At that Morgan gives out a short chuckle, wiping the tears away and fully turning towards the detective.
“No, I didn’t. There was no point in doing so,” Morgan shrugs, seeing a hint of amusement in his eyes. “We were broken up and I wasn’t here for even a year yet, didn’t want to ruin the dynamic that Will and I were building.” She glances away, before a realization arises in her mind. “Why didn’t you tell him?”
“I guess for the same reason,” he shrugs now, but his voice is soft.
“How’re things with Erin?” Jay grimaces, but Morgan laughed. His partner was the reason she broke up with him, she didn’t feel like becoming a second choice. She didn’t feel like competing against a woman that he spent so much time with where she barely saw due to their hours. If you love them, gotta let them go, right?
“Things are good, we’re good.”
“That’s good. I’m happy for you. Really.” He looks at her, a solemn look on his face, words ready to pour out about their past relationship. Morgan, however, doesn’t want to hear it, she spent months trying to get over the handsome detective, she didn’t need him to dredge up old feelings. Gladly, her pager goes off and she sees that she’s being called to check up on another one of her patients. “Are you here to see Will or something?”
Jay is confused at her question at first before realizing that the opportunity to talk had passed. “Yeah, yeah I am”
“I’ll walk you in.” Together the two walk into the hospital, muttering a quick goodbye. Will exits the ED and sees the interaction between his brother and Morgan, he glimpses at the comfortable  aura between them and makes a note to address it later, after he confronted his brother about their conversation earlier.

After discharging a patient that was wheeled in earlier, Morgan’s phone beeps and she fishes it out from the pocket of her scrubs. It was from Dr. Charles. The doctor was anxious, hoping that this wasn’t a talk about her overreacting behavior with Dani. Taking a deep breath to call her nerves, she makes her way down to the morgue. When she gets to the hallway that leads to her destination, she is caught up with Will and Connor. They greet each other, but Morgan ignores them, and she especially ignores the concerning looks that they were both giving her. The boys stop in front of the morgue’s door, but Morgan does not feel like sticking around for their conversation, so she walks in between them and enters.
Dr. Charles is standing in the room alongside the medical examiner and he greets her. “Dr. Fitzgerald, here.” He hands her a sheet and she looks down to it. It’s the results for her patient, Dani who was lying dead in front of her. Morgan takes the paper and takes a step away from the body, Dr. Charles notices. Soon, Halstead and Rhodes step into the room. “Gentlemen,” Dr. Charles says, also handing them a sheet.
Rhodes looks down and reads the results, coming to the same conclusion Morgan did when she read it. “Dani OD’ed on chemo. That explains why she seized in the street.”
Dr. Charles nods and gives a sigh out, “that’s not the troubling part. Yeah, she was loaded up on chemo. But this woman,” he says to Dr. Fitzgerald, “never had cancer.” It was like he was trying to tell her that she could not have saved her, that it wasn’t her fault that she was gone.
All Morgan knew was that it didn’t help.
         ❦
Now, Dr. Choi, Dr. Halstead, Dr. Rhodes, and Dr. Fitzgerald stood in Mrs. Goodwin’s office listening to Dr. Charles’s hypothesis about the two women who OD'd on chemo.
“Two patients in one day overdose on chemo and neither had cancer.” He hands something to Mrs. Goodwin while Morgan goes through the patients’ charts.
“Which, I must admit, does seem suspicious.” Goodwin replies, setting her glasses on her nose.
“Well, it could be a new oncologist in town making incorrect diagnoses.” Connor remarks, but doesn’t sound like he has convinced himself.
“Or even just mixing up a few charts,” Dr. Choi adds.
“Yeah, but even then, why the overdoses?” Morgan asks, finally looking up to the people in the room. “And on the same day? It doesn’t add up.”
“What do we know about these women?” Sharon asks, taking off the glasses and pointing her attention to Dr. Charles.
“Jessica’s note said she felt betrayed.” He answers her.
“And Dani’s girlfriend said Dani was upset about something, but wouldn’t talk about it,” Will speaks up.
“Something was going on with both of these women,” the psychiatrist continues.
“Yeah, but we don’t have any medical records, and no information that might link them.” Morgan points out looking back to the charts, trying to find some reason as to why they overdosed on chemo.
Goodwin brainstorms out loud, “I’m going to get in touch with some local oncologists, see if there have been any problems with their chemo or if they’ve had other patients in the same condition. Thank you,” she nods to the doctors and they begin to head out. Connor places his hand on Morgan’s lower back and leads the two of them away from Choi and Halstead.
“Hey, are you okay?” The look on his face shows that he knows what she’s going through.
“Um,” Morgan hesitates and breathes out, looking down the hall where Will seems to be waiting for her. “Yeah, it’s just that–” Morgan trails off, looking everywhere but Connor’s eyes.
“It’s Olivia’s birthday,” he finishes for her and almost immediately, tears begin to cloud Morgan’s eyes. She collapses against her friend, his arms immediately wrapping around her.
Will watched them, he watched how open and vulnerable Morgan was with Rhodes. He understood that they knew each other since their childhood, but Rhodes has been gone for the past few years, and Will had been there instead. Or maybe he hadn’t been, as he looked at Morgan sobbing in Rhodes’s arms, he wondered if he ever really knew her, if she could ever allow him in her life like she allows Connor. He walks away from them, giving them space and himself time to think.
Connor reluctantly pulls away from Morgan, wiping away the tears from her face. “She would’ve been 32 years old, possibly married, maybe a few kids. I don’t know, I’ll never know,” Morgan whispers the last part, looking down at her feet. “I don’t know why I’m letting this affect me so much.” She angrily sighs out, turning away from Connor.
He lays a hand on her shoulder, “It was barely four years ago and Olivia was brutally murdered, it’s gonna take time. Maybe you should talk to Dr. Charles.”
“Well how much time until I am so distracted that I end up affecting a patient?” She yells, receiving a few annoyed and confused looks from some bystanders. At this time Dr. Charles is stepping out of Goodwin’s office and his attention is brought to the two arguing doctors. Morgan doesn’t want to be analyzed by the psychiatrist and she’s tired of the look of pity on Connor’s face, so she decides to remove herself from the situation.
“Morgan–”Connor begins, but she has already begun to walk away.
         ❦
The end of her shift was two hours ago, but she was still at the hospital, on the roof staring at the Chicago skyline. She couldn’t go home, she knew she wasn’t gonna be able to get any sleep tonight. A breeze danced around the doctor’s body and she tried her hardest to retreat deeper into her jacket, but it wasn’t helping much. The wind pushed the curls of her hair to brush against her face and despite this very reason, Morgan liked having her natural hair out. She felt a little bit more in control, a bit more free, a bit more beautiful. The braids she had in her hair last month were getting harder to handle, so she was okay with letting her hair and scalp breathe for a bit. Over the years her hair grew remarkably well and she was starting to feel a lot more confident in herself. Maybe she’d let it out longer than a few weeks.
“Hey, I didn’t know you were still here.” Morgan turns to Connor’s voice, he’s walking towards her.
“Yeah, I have a patient downstairs that I don’t want to leave.” He looks at her, knowing that she’s not telling the whole truth. But he doesn’t push her, at least not for now.
“I heard what you did for me today.” He leans next to her on the railing, his eyes peering out as well.
“What? With Kelly?” She asks and Connor nods. “It’s no big deal. They’re all one big family and can get a little hostile without noticing. I just had a little talk with him.”
“How long had you known him?”
“I met him shortly after I started my residency here, through an ex.”
“An ex?” He chuckles, “who?”
“Someone not important. He’s not really in my life anymore. But after deciding to maintain my paramedic license, I rode along a few times with their station and got close to them. I had hoped I could use my relationship with them as an advantage to talk Kelly down.”
“Well thanks.” He nudges her and she smiles, “however, you don’t always have to come to my rescue. Especially when you won’t let me come to yours.”
“It’s not that Connor, it’s just that sometimes there’s this look you give me. Like I’m broken and you want to fix me. I already get it from the rest of my family, and from Hayden. I don’t want that from you.”
“I understand, but it’s because I care about you Morgan.” He slings an arm around her shoulder and she leans against him.
“I appreciate it, and I promise that I’ll let you know if I need rescuing. But for now, let me just have my best friend, okay?”
“Alright, I’ll hold you to that promise.” He chuckles. For a moment, they’re quiet, leaning against each other, letting their troubles past them even for just a moment.
“So, you and Dr. Zanetti? I did not see that coming.” She looks at Connor skeptically and he scoffs at her.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He looks down at Morgan, genuinely curious.
“I don’t know, it’s just that she’s her and you’re you. She’s the definition of an egotistical surgeon and you’re not.” Connor looks at her, urging her to continue, but Morgan knows it’s not her place. “But that’s just my opinion, I’m sure she’s nice and you wouldn’t be dating her if there wasn’t something there.”
“Is there some history between the two of you.” He asks, removing his arm from around the ED doctor.
“Just some disagreements on invasive versus less invasive procedures, it’s not a big deal. Don’t let my professional troubles ruin your personal life.” Connor nods his head, still a little wary of Morgan’s attitude towards his girlfriend. As he should be, Morgan felt a little jealousy clawing away at her insides, she didn’t understand why. It wasn’t like Connor was going to disappear out of her life now that he was dating Sam. Or maybe it was the fact that Morgan wasn’t his girlfriend, but that thought never crossed her mind.
“Are you dating anyone?”
“God, no. I don’t have the time for dates or caring about another person’s schedule. I did it a while in 2013, we dated, but we had opposite schedules and so I ended it.”
“When did you first get here? Morgan, that was almost three years ago!”
“No it was, two years ago. We broke up in 2014 and I just haven’t made time to go out.”
“God, you’re ridiculous.”
“Thank you, but I’m fine with it.” She shrugs and Connor just shakes his head, not really understanding her decision. If only he understood that the universe was working against the two, it was never the right time for the both of them.
“Come on Morgan, let me drive you home.” Morgan nods and the two of them make their way down to the first floor. She could feel a little bit of the weight rising off of her shoulders as the two of them finally left the hospital.

Part Two
Hayden passes a cup of tea to Morgan, before joining her friend on the couch to watch TV. “I feel as if I have only been working,” Morgan sighs, taking a sip of the mint tea.  She had taken the week off, or she was forced by Goodwin to take the week off, to make up for the fact that she’s been working nonstop for the past three weeks.
“It’s because you’ve been taking on extra shifts and haven’t been getting any sleep.” Morgan tries to deny her accusations, but Hayden gives an all-knowing look. “I know when you’re up Morgan, I can hear the papers shuffling.” Morgan drops her eyes to the pool of tea, slightly shaking from her movements.
“There hasn’t been any leads on Olivia’s case or on the case that came into the hospital in 2014. She’s still a Jane Doe, no matter what I try or where I look.”
“Why don’t you ask for some help from your detective ex?” At that Morgan almost chokes on her tea and Hayden lets out a boisterous laugh at her reaction.
“Yeah, right,” Morgan’s still clearing her throat, placing the cup on the coffee table. “Running into Jay a few weeks ago is not an invitation for us to have any type of relationship. And I do not want to complicate his life while he’s dating Erin.”
“Yeah, sure. Not like he didn’t complicate your life when y’all broke up.” She scoffs, taking a large drink from her tea, a shake of her head.
“For one: I broke up with him, and two: he doesn’t know about Olivia.”
“But he knows about the Jane Doe, it was his case too wasn’t it?”
“Yeah, and if I ask him about it, he’s gonna wonder why I’m still interested in it. It’s been two years with no new victims or lead. I told him I moved on, back when we were dating, I don’t need anymore animosity between us if he found out I lied.” Morgan picks up the drink again and takes a sip, letting the warmth of the tea soothe her throat and relax her body.
“Well, I’ll try to reach some of my contacts in the department and see what I can find.” She reaches over and places a hand on Morgan’s knee. “We are gonna catch this guy, we’ll get Olivia, and all his other victims, their justice.” Morgan looks at her friend for a moment, glad that she finally wasn’t carrying this burden by herself, and nods. “Do you have any other information about the case?”
Morgan breathes out and nods, “yeah, I started a folder after the victim came through the hospital in 2014. I tried looking for other victims at other hospitals, but haven’t found anything.” She gets up and walks down the hallway to her room. In a locked box hiding under her bed was a thick folder field with a copy of police reports, medical examiner reports of Olivia’s and the jane doe’s autopsy, and Morgan’s  medical reports from when the jane doe was under her care. She grabs the folder and heads back out to where her best friend was sitting, handing it to her waiting hands. “The brutality of his crimes indicate that he has done this more than twice, but I can’t find any evidence.” Morgan throws herself back on the couch, folding herself up and facing Hayden.
“Maybe you need a fresh pair of eyes, and it also helps that my eyes are trained to find leads. And that I have plenty of cop friends.” She flips through the various pages, taking more time to read on some of the pages.
“Thanks for looking into this for me.”
“It’s no problem, I’ve always wanted to help you, but I also wanted you to let me in when you were ready.”
“Thanks babe.” Morgan smiles.
“Now about Jay,” Hayden inquires and her friend groans, eliciting a laugh. “What?! You liked him and I recognized the moping that occurred right after you broke up with him.” Her tone turns softer as she looks at the doctor. “Why’d you break up with him? When you were with him, it was the first time I’d seen you smile since Olivia died. I just never understood what went wrong.” She shrugs, wishing her friend would open up to her.
They’d been friends since they attended undergrad together, but Morgan always had trouble opening up even when Olivia died. Hayden understood, but she always made herself available to her best friend and it was reciprocated. Morgan was a good friend, sometimes too good of a friend, putting their needs above hers.
“Ultimately in the end it wasn’t working and I wasn’t blind. I could see that he did not want to make a choice between…” Morgan pauses taking a deep breath.
“Between you and Erin?” Hayden asks and Morgan nods, choking out a slight sob.
“God, it’s been two years, why can’t i get over it? He didn’t love me the way he loved her and that was okay, I was okay. I’m okay.”
“Well if you’re okay, why not go on a date with that one guy I told you about?” Morgan shrugs at the question, but also knows that answer. The scar that sat at the base of her belly made her insecure, she hadn’t been intimate with anyone since Jay and she yearned to be touched intimately by someone, she wasn’t ready to have her whole body exposed to new eyes.
“I’ll think about it,” Morgan lies, turning her body to the TV that they really just used for background. Hayden doesn’t push any further, she closes the file that she has in her hand and places it on the coffee table, swapping it out for a takeout menu
“Alright Chinese or Ethiopian?”
“Ethiopian, I have a coupon somewhere in my room.” Morgan gets up to look for the coupon while Hayden dials the restaurant’s number. Morgan returns to the living room with a coupon in hand, reading to see if it had expired. It hadn’t. But when she looks up, Hayden is holding her phone towards her. “Tell me you’re joking, please.” Morgan begs but Hayden sighs out, shaking her head. Morgan takes her phone, pushing a sigh out. “Hello?”
“Hey Morgan, I’m sorry to do this to you today but we’re getting slammed and two of my nurses and a doc called off,” Goodwin says through the phone and Morgan wants to say no but she doesn’t.
“Yeah, I’ll be there. Give me 30 minutes.” At Morgan’s answer, Hayden throws a pillow at her, a little upset that their girl’s day is ruined.
“Thank you.”
“No problem,” Morgan hangs up and flings herself over the back of the catch, her face stuffed into one of the cushions.
“Hey, you only have thirty minutes, get your ass to work,” Hayden throws another pillow, pulling a muffled groan from the doctor.
“Okay, it’s just for today. Just one day taken off from my week. When I get home girl’s day will resume and will stay resumed, no interruptions.”
“You say that and then we get doomed. You get called in and I get a new assignment.”
Whipping her head up to look at her best friend, she puts on a face of determination.“That won’t happen, not after tonight.” She gets up and starts walking down the hallway. “I promise!” She yells back.
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep!” Morgan hears her friend’s teasing answer, scared that she really wasn’t going to be able to keep it.
         ❦
Morgan pulls up to the hospital 25 minutes later in the Nissan Rogue she shared with Hayden. Hayden decided to pursue girl’s day on her own, so she was staying home. Morgan stares at the entrance from the warmth of her car and takes a deep breath. For the past three weeks, she has been at Med every single day. After the day of Olivia’s birthday, she pushed herself into finding out what happened to her sister and to not let her investigation distract or destroy her, Morgan threw herself into work. She didn’t think it was much of a problem until she found herself unable to keep her eyes open while driving back home last week, she had called Connor to drive her home and he pointed out the issue.  So, Morgan decided to take a week off and try to relax. So much for that.
Grabbing her hospital badge that sat in the center console and her backpack from the passenger seat, Morgan steps out of her car and begins making her way into the hospital. When she gets to the ED, she sees that it’s a little busy so she understood why her presence was necessary.
“I thought you were off this week?” Connor asks when he sees Morgan. He walks up to her as she leans against the door of the doctor’s lounge.
“I do, but got called in for today,” Morgan shrugs, a yawn escaping from her between her lips.
“Are you sure you’re okay to work today?” He leans closer, whispering to her. Connor wouldn’t tell it to her face, but he was getting worried for her, he had also noticed that a few weeks ago her behavior began to change.
“Yeah I’m sure. It’s just one shift.”
The sound of sirens pulling close to the emergency department doors pulls their focus from each other. Maggie asks for a report from the paramedics and Morgan turns her face back to Connor.“I think that’s your cue,” her head tilts towards the incoming patient and he nods.
“I’ll see you later, okay?” He doesn’t move on until she nods at him. She watches him join the patient and start working before pushing her body into the doctor’s lounge. The noise of the emergency department gets muffled the second the door closes behind her and she groans out. She didn’t have a problem coming in and the closer she got to the hospital the more okay she was with taking this shift, but now that she was in the building, she felt so overwhelmed and for a second, she almost wanted to cry. Closing her eyes and letting out another sigh, Morgan leans her head against her locker and forgets the world for just a moment. She knew today was going to be a day.
Finally getting it together, she throws her stethoscope over her shoulders and slips her pager in the front pocket of her scrubs. She makes it out of the lounge as Maggie is calling a gathering of some of the staff. Morgan speeds up to the group, putting herself beside Sarah.
“Gather around, gather around,” the circle closes around the charge nurse. “New patient satisfaction forms. You need to get every patient who’s been treated to fill this out,” she starts handing them out, placing a few into Morgan’s outstretched hand as well. “Wait for it. It gets better.” She pauses building a bit of anticipation from the staff. “We have a P&P in isolation.” A few nurses groan out and Morgan just scoffs out a laugh. “Oh yeah.”
“What’s a P&P?” Sarah asks and Morgan gives a comforting pat, remembering the first time she treated one. It almost made her not want to choose emergency medicine for her residency.
“Reese should do it.” Doris says, a few of the nurses agreeing with “Yeah!” and assurance to Maggie.
“How about we show you, Dr. Reese?” Morgan teases, nudging the young student doctor on the side.
“Let’s go,” April says, tugging Sarah by the arm and Morgan follows behind them.
The three women make it to the room with April in front. “P&P; pediculosis and phthiriasis.” The nurse announces to Sarah, who seems hesitant.
“Lice infestation.” Sarah says matter of factly, nodding her head.
“Among other things,” Morgan answers, pushing herself from her leaning position and standing next to the tent.
“Uh, what exactly do I do?”
Morgan hands a protective covering to Sarah, “first, gown up.”
“You strip him, scrub him three times.” April continues, turning her body to grab a tube from the tray behind her and Morgan. “Then put permethrin over every millimeter of his body.” She puts the tube in Sarah’s hand with a smile. “Welcome to my world.”
“Okay,” Sarah says, a strained smile on her own face. Morgan starts to back away towards the exit. “Wait! You’re not gonna help?” Sarah says and April chuckles, already knowing the doctor’s answer.
“Sorry, Sarah.” Morgan shrugs, her hand ready to pull open the room’s door. “Needed on the floor. I just wanted to see the look on your face.” The doctor motions around her face, a teasing laugh on her face at the look Sarah had.
“Don’t worry, I’ll help.” April says and Morgan quickly excuses herself from the room. She leaves with a softer smile on her face, but still a feeling of dread hangs over her.
         ❦
It’s been three hours since Morgan first stepped onto the floor and although she helped on a few emergencies and set a few casts, the day was fairly slow. Being an attending meant overlooking a few of the student doctors and interns on their own patients, but their cases were usually easy and the patient was treated fairly quickly. So all Morgan had to do was scroll through various patient charts making sure that everything was in order. She was so close to just asking Maggie if she could leave early when Ethan walked up beside her.
“Hey, Ethan. How’s your day going?” The man looked a little tense to Morgan and she almost regrets asking the question. Ethan and Morgan were not as close as Will and Morgan were, but they respected each other and he did hold one of her biggest secrets.
“It’s complicated.” Morgan nods, completely agreeing with him. “I thought you were taking time off?”
“I’m filling in for someone,” she absentmindedly says while continuing to scroll through reports. “Eventually, I’ll go on sabbatical.” He chuckles at her answer and she turns to grin at him.
“Dr. Fitzgerald, Dr. Choi, we’ve got an incoming,” Maggie walks by them and towards the ambulance bay doors. Dr. Choi grabs a pair of gloves and follows the nurse, while Morgan works to log her credentials off the tablet. When she makes it to the treatment room they’re in, the patient has a high blood pressure and heart rate. Their body convulsing as a seizure pulses through them.
“On my count, let’s move her.” Dr. Choi says, everyone involved moving the patient at the end of count three.
“Push 4 of Ativan please.” Morgan asks and Nurse Doris complies. Dr. Choi reflects light into the woman’s eyes while Morgan checks her heart rate with her stethoscope. “Let’s get Neuro down here,” someone walks out of the room to do as she asked. The convulsing of the woman on the treatment table slowly stops and her eyes begin to open. She looks disoriented.
“Ma’am, do you know where you are?” Ethan asks while Morgan speaks to the paramedics to understand the situation they were dealing with. When Morgan turns back towards her colleague and patient, she freezes, the answer for her earlier feeling of dread finally presented itself.
It was her mother. A woman she hadn’t seen since was 22, was lying disoriented on the gurney looking up to Dr. Choi and trying to answer his questions. Sure, Morgan hadn’t laid eyes on her mother for 3 years but she knew it was her even with all the damage done to it. She couldn’t forget her face even if she tried – and she tried. Morgan wants to turn away but she can’t move her body, and her mother finally turns to her daughter.
“Morgie,” she rasps and Morgan can’t breathe. Her breaths come out shallow and her eyes begin to sting. If Dr. Choi held a stethoscope to her chest, he would’ve heard how fast it was beating. Ethan is looking between the stunned doctor and his patient, he opens his mouth to say something but Morgan beats him to it.
“Dr. Choi, you got this right?” Her words are strained and she forces herself to look at him, it’s obvious she doesn’t want to move her eyes a few degrees to the right.
“Yeah, Dr. Fitzgerald, I got this,” at the end of his words, Morgan moves without missing a beat and she’s barreling down the hallway towards the elevator, not caring who’s in her way. Dr. Choi just stares at the recently vacant spot while the woman chokes out.
         ❦
Morgan’s been up on the roof for the past thirty minutes when someone joins her. She doesn’t bother looking over as she’s still going over the situation she just found herself in. Her mother was in her emergency department. “So what’s up with her?”
“Cassidy is suffering from withdrawal symptoms.” Ethan’s answer emits a scoff from Morgan. The female doctor is picking at her fingernails, something she did since she was a child to calm her nerves. This time it wasn’t helping and a few of her fingers were bleeding at the cuticles.
“Of course she is. She probably hasn’t been able to get her next fix,” she moves her arms from her body’s way and leans against the edge.
“Who is she Morgan?” Ethan’s body is turned towards her. He notices the conflict flitting across her face, a hint of a sadness is present also.
“She’s...she’s my mom,” her head is looking towards the sky as she blinks the tears away and tries to compose herself.
“I thought your mother was a lawyer.” He asks, leaning his body on the edge now too. He had met her last year when her parents stopped by for an errand.
“Yes… and no. Stephanie is my stepmom. Cassidy Kane-Fitzgerald is my mother, she left when I was 5. My dad never told us why she left, but seven years ago she came looking for us, she was lucky; we didn’t even live in Chicago by then, but my sister and I were here visiting and that’s when we found out her problems with drugs.” Morgan saddens even more at the mention of her sister. “ You could just tell that she was dependent on them. I persuaded my sister into helping her, so we gathered a lot of the savings we could and put her into rehab.”
“What happened after that?” Ethan asks, taking advantage of the situation to not only know his patient’s history but to know his friend better.
“Two months later Olivia got a call that our mother left and I didn’t see her until shortly after I graduated med school. And again I used up most of my savings to put her through rehab, I don’t even know if she went through the whole program that time, I got caught up with something that summer. I guess I forgot about her.” Morgan shrugs as she remembers that three weeks after putting her mom in rehab, Olivia’s body was found.
“Well she’s asking for you, if you want to see her.” He lays a hand on her shoulder and she finally turns to look at him.
“I’m sorry Ethan, but I can’t do this with her again. You take primary on the case, I don’t think it would be a good idea to have someone so emotionally attached assigned to her, might cloud my judgement .” Ethan looks at her for a silent second before nodding, Morgan smiles softly before pulling away and walking back into the hospital. She just had to get through the rest of this day.
         ❦
Despite denying it, Morgan has been distracted. She tried her hardest to avoid the side of the emergency department that her mother’s room was, but occasionally she’d find herself walking past it.
“Hey, I heard your mom was admitted,” Connor says, walking up to the doctor who was trying to distract herself with paperwork.
“God, nobody knows how to keep their mouth shut,” Morgan slams what’s in her hand down on the desk, causing a few people passing by to glance at her. “It’s not a big deal, Ethan’s going to be handling her.” She tries brushing it off like it all wasn't bothering her to the smallest fragment of her being. In reality, she was angry. Angry that Cassidy was there and angry that the truth about her mother was traveling around the hospital like some type of seasonal flu.
“I don’t know why you didn’t come and get me.” His arms are across his chest, his voice hushed, his eyes glaring her down even though she won’t look up at him. “Morgan.”
With her jaw clenched, Morgan finally looks up at Connor then quickly looks away because of his stare. “Sometimes Connor,” she pauses contemplating if she really wanted to tell him this, she continues. “You get a little overprotective, and I am grateful that you are watching out for me, but you treat me like I can’t take care of myself or decide how I want to feel. You may be a little older than me, but I’m not a child anymore. We’re not in high school, you’re not Olivia’s best friend and I’m not her kid sister anymore. We’re colleagues now, Connor. You need to see that.” She finally looks up at him. And he opens his mouth to say something in response, but Morgan isn’t having it, not today. “Just give me a little space.” She turns away from him and heads out of the ICU towards the elevator.
She knew that maybe she was a little rude to Connor, but she also knew where he was coming from. However, Morgan hated when everyone looked at her like she was fragile, waiting to break and she especially hated receiving it from Connor. He knew not to treat her like that, they’ve known each other for years, but sometimes he defaults to it since he cares about her a lot.
Connor and Morgan met through her sister Olivia. Morgan was four years younger than the both of them, but he ended up hanging around their house a lot (to avoid his father) and in the process, Morgan and Connor also got closer, even closer than him and Olivia. He had attended all of Morgan’s graduations and she attended his, when he left the states they had stayed in touch. And after Olivia’s death, despite the physical distance that recurred after the funeral, they two were closer than ever; constantly calling each other and making trips to see one another if they could. But after being able to constantly see each other due to being coworkers, Connor could see how damaged Morgan really was; Morgan could see how much Connor was willing to do to protect her and she didn’t necessarily like that.
The elevator opens up to the emergency room and Morgan hesitates, not wanting to approach her mother. A few people get on the elevator, some giving her some looks including Will. He stands beside her quietly, and she slows her breathing. There was a guarantee that the gossip finally reached him and since she first met him, she tried to keep him out of her personal life. That’s how she was able to hide her relationship with Jay, the existence of her mother, and the fact that her older sister was raped and murdered shortly before she started at Med.
She sees him turn towards her in her periphery and she knows he wants to say something, but she beats him to it. “So, what’s going on with your cancer patient, heard she signed a DNR.”
Will sighs out, missing the opportunity to confront her. “Yeah, I’m hoping to get her into a trial. Change her mind and give her a fighting chance.” His hands are in his pockets as he shrugs. The elevator stops and a few patrons step off before it continues moving up.
“Why don’t you just respect her wishes?” Morgan looks up at him, her hand running over her curls as best as she can. “She above anyone else knows the struggle she’s going through, so she shouldn’t she have the choice to keep fighting or not, to make her own decisions?”
“But it’s selfish,” Will leans closer to her, to keep the conversation between them. “She has a daughter, a husband. She shouldn’t be so hellbent on abandoning them.”
“You don’t get to make that decision for her Will. Sometimes you need to let people make their own decisions and accept it without your judgement weighing in,” Morgan is not only addressing his patient, but their own relationship. She loved Will, she did, but after a lot of Morgan’s past began having a light shed on it, Will always had a few comments; with news of her mother and her condition, she knew it was a short time before she heard something from him. Might as well put him in his spot now.
She doesn’t give him a chance to answer as she takes a quick step out of the elevator as soon as it opens; this isn’t even the floor of her destination. She doesn’t look back, but Will watches her leaving.

“Can you stop sending nurses to get me for you?! Can’t you take the hint that I don’t want to see you.” Morgan steps into the room, fuming. Her mother sits on the bed, an IV in her arm as Doris  is adjusting the drip. Doris pauses at Morgan’s outburst and looks like she wants to bolt. Cassidy has sent various people to plead for Morgan to come and see her, or she would keep refusing treatment. Ethan was the first, Doris had even come asking, and it was Maggie who was finally successful in dragging Morgan from her lunch and into the treatment room.
“I just wanted to see you, it’s been years since I’ve had a good look at you,” the frail woman grasps at her daughter but Morgan steps out of her mother’s hold.
“I am busy.” Morgan enunciates every syllable, glaring at her mother.
“Fine then!” Cassidy yells and knocks over a metal tray down onto the ground, making Morgan jump slightly. “Get me Omar, I haven’t seen him since he was a baby.”
Morgan rolls her eyes, forcing a sigh out. April, Connor, and Will all step in, the noise drawing them as they think that Morgan is possibly in danger. They didn’t understand the type of dynamic that exists between the mother and daughter.
“You okay, Morgan?” Connor asks, coming up behind her. He starts placing a gentle hand on her lower back but hesitates, testing the waters since their conversation earlier was so tense. Morgan glances at him, but doesn’t step away which encourages him to actually touch her. Maybe she shouldn’t deny that Connor was a comforting figure in her life. Not as his touch sent a little shiver up her spine and made her heart jump in speed. Not when she enjoyed being that close to him.
“Yeah, the patient is just being a little uncooperative.” She says, not even bothering to hide her words from her mother.
“Stop talking about me like I’m not here.” She speaks loudly, pushing herself off the gurney. She looked ready to pounce on her daughter. Agitation was a symptom of withdrawal. April moves to the side of Cassidy, possibly to help calm her down. Will just watches the relationship of Connor and Morgan unfold in front of him. There was nothing that he could say to Morgan now, she was still upset with him and he knew she’d probably get madder if he heard what he’d done to Jennifer Baker.
Cassidy still hasn’t abandoned her request for her children. “If you won’t get me Omar –”
“Omar’s in Colorado,” Morgan injects, tired of conversing with her mother.
“Get me Olivia.”
At her sister’s name, Morgan tenses and surprisingly, so does Connor. Will and April noticed how the room suddenly got colder and they could see Morgan’s face start to harden. “What do you mean get Olivia?” Morgan says through clenched teeth.
“Get me your sister, she was always kind to me.” Morgan isn’t sure what to say, she just stares at her mother. “Well are you going to stare at me all day or let me see my kids.”
“Olivia’s dead,” Morgan whispers, but Connor is the only one that can hear her. Will and April stare at their coworker, wondering why the tension in the room all of sudden had to be cut with a saw.
“I don’t understand why you can’t get over the past Morgan, why can’t you let me make amends? ”
“Make amends?” Morgan’s voice is the one that raises in volume now. Connor’s grip tightens slightly as to calm her down but his friend steps away from him and towards her mother. “I put you through rehab two times, using Olivia and I’s savings. And look at you, two days off drugs and you think it’s time to make amends. You are unbelievable,” she’s looking down at her mother now; her voice coated with hate and low now, but she’s still audible to her coworkers in the room. “You are too damn late. Omar doesn’t remember you, I hate you, and Olivia’s dead. She was killed three years ago while you were off getting high in some dump!”
With that Morgan abruptly turns and pushes herself past Connor. He tries to grab her but she narrowly escapes him, tumbling towards the doctor’s lounge. She left behind a shocked room. Will and April looked at each other and then to Connor, realizing that he knew that news bomb. Cassidy sits on the bed, wails beginning to leave her throat as what Morgan said finally settles in her mind.

Morgan’s out of her uniform and everything is packed, she was getting out of the hospital even though she still had two hours left.
“Maggie, I’m not feeling so well and I just need to rest.” Maggie looks at Morgan, not buying the lie but is willing to let it pass.
“Yeah, of course. Everything’s died down here so we shouldn’t need you anymore.” She nods and Morgan gives her a weak smile and then turns around towards the elevator. The charge nurse watches the distressed woman make her way to the elevator. Connor walks up beside Maggie, his eyes also going to his friend’s back. Morgan looked broken. Her bag loosely slung over her shoulder, her eyes a little red accompanied by bags under them. Her hair was in a messy bun, a little frizzy; it’s flat ironed looked totally a memory from this morning. She had it a little rough today.
“Is she going to be okay Connor?” Maggie asks, concern written all over her face. Connor isn’t sure how to answer because he hasn’t seen her this way since her sister died in 2012.
The woman’s trip up to Mrs. Goodwin’s was uninterrupted. She knocks on the administrator’s door and enters when she gets the go ahead.
“How may I help Dr. Fitzgerald?” Goodwin says, folding her hands under chin. “I was hoping to extend my time off for another week. Some things have come to my attention and I’d like to take care of them.”
“Well you have accumulated a lot of leave these past few weeks and I heard today wasn’t your day.” Morgan sits in the chair that is across from the older black woman.
“I think some time away will let me clear my head and get back on track.” Goodwin gives a small grin, before placing a warm hand on Morgan’s clenched fists. The gesture causes for tears to slide down Morgan’s face, the light reflecting off the tears against the black landscape of her cheekbones.
“You should talk to someone Morgan, take care of yourself.” Morgan doesn’t give a definitive answer, but grins back as a reply. “Get out of here, I’ll see you in two weeks.” With that Morgan gets up and exits the office, finally making her way out of the building.
This time her trip is interrupted by Ethan, he slowly approaches her outside the elevator doors. “Heading out?” He asks.
“Yeah, it’s been a long day.” She clutches her bag closer to her body and looks up at him.
“I just wanted to inform you that your mother left.” This causes Morgan to take a deep breath in. “Considering her condition and how adamant she was on not joining one of our programs, it’s not looking good for her.”
Morgan looks down at her feet, quiet for a minute. “Well Ethan, she’s not my problem. There’s nothing I can do about it.” She shrugs, her lips pursed.
“Are you sure Morgan?”
“I’m sure,” she pats his shoulder and leaves. When she gets outside, she pulls out her cell phone and dials Hayden. She throws her bag and herself into the car and slams the door, the biggest sigh of relief escapes her body as her roommate finally answers.
“Hey, don’t you have a few hours left on your shift??”
“No, I left early. Lot of shit happened today, I’ll tell you later.”
“Alright,” she lengthens the syllables with curiosity. “Do you need something?”
“Um, yeah. Can we get out of Chicago? Go up to that cabin you were talking about earlier?”
“Oh fuck yeah, I’ve been dying to drag you up there since this summer.”
“I know, I know,” a small chuckle leaves Morgan’s lips. “I’ll see you in thirty.”
“Okay, I’m gonna pack. Bye!” The two women hang up the phone simultaneously, but one is more excited than the other. Morgan glances one more time at her place of occupation and watches as various people walk in and out, she catches the figures of a few of her coworkers as well.  She needed these two weeks, she couldn’t save others if she was denying rescue for herself.
