Working out your “perfect” curly hair routine can take a lot of trial & error. You see, it’s not only the product choice, but when and how you use that product, that can make a difference to your results. Also add into that the quality of the water you have and it means there are so many variables to test. @controlledchaoshair kindly sent me these samples while I was in the UK and I have been testing them for weeks. My first impressions of the cleanser and conditioner were fab but I couldn’t get a good result for my hair with the curl cream. It was too soft and my curls were nice but not that defined. Now I’m back in Sydney, I’ve been testing them some more and it turns out it was the water. Also my hair seems to love gel so I added in a fourth step. But you could skip this if your curl pattern is stronger than mine. I really recommend keeping a “curl diary” to check your results - there are so many variables. Hate styling with heat?? No problem!! Want heatless curls but you suck at doing Bantu knots? No problem!!! I'm sure we all have a million bobby pins laying around so grab them and use your fingers to create some heatless curls 💁🏾➰! I prefer to do these on stretched hair with no water, there's various methods you can do to stretch out your hair without heat i.e) twist-out, braid-out, buns, banding method, roller set, but I'm starting with combed out wand curls. You can also do this on clean wet hair if you prefer, just keep in mind if water is used, the drying time increases. 🔹Part a small/medium sections and apply your favorite styler. I find that cream based products work best for this style so I used the @controlledchaoshair Curl Crème. 🔹Brush and smooth out your hair then wrap it around your finger. I used the twist and wrap motion I do with my flexi rod sets. Tip: Wrap your hair around more fingers on the bottom layers of your hair to keep some length and use less fingers on the top for a tighter curl 😉 🔹Slide your finger and hold the curl in shape then use a couple bobby pins to hold it in place. 🔹Allow your hair to completely dry. Afterwards, take out the bobby pins and lightly oil your hands to separate the curls & VOILA, heatless, bouncy curls! Let’s talk hair care! There are a lot of common misconceptions. 1. You can achieve healthy hair. Wording: your hair is dead. It can never be “healthy”. However, your hair be soft, strong, and without frizz. Different products work for different people. But what I’ve found is @controlledchaoshair products work best for my curly top. 2. You have to shower every day to be clean. You don’t need to shower every day. In fact, water is drying for your skin, hair, and scalp so if it works for you, try showering every second or third day. 3. Only put conditioner on the ends of your hair. PUT THAT CONDITIONER ALL OVER YOUR HEAD. This is simple science. Shampoo dries out your hair and scalp. Why? Because the proteins that bind to dirt and oils cannot tell the difference between good and bad oils. Any soap that can actually clean and remove dirt and grime will naturally cause a bit of dryness. So don’t be afraid to reintroduce moisture to your scalp by applying conditioner all over your hair. This is especially true if you’re prone to dry skin. • Other things. I NEVER brush my hair when wet. Your hair is at its weakest when wet and brushing through knots during this time will cause more breakage. I brush my hair before each shower. Additionally, I gently pat my hair dry as scrubbing it with a towel also causes more breakage (see weakest when wet). • After a gentle dry I add more moisture with Controlled Chaos Curl Creme because, as most curly haired people know, our hair is naturally a tad bit dryer and can use some extra moisture to get those soft, strong curls. • I’d love to know your hair care routines!
