Ask GN 108: Is "AMD Optimized" RAM BS? Show All 200 Case Tests?
Published on Sep 30, 2019
Ask GN returns! In episode 108, we're answering questions about "AMD Optimized" RAM, we show a compressed list of 200 case tests, and more. Sponsor: Buy Gigabyte's X570 Master (Amazon - https://geni.us/WJgNK) NOTE: We hadn't yet reviewed (or finished testing) the XFX 5700 XT yet when filming this, so that changes the first answer a little bit (namely, don't buy that part). Get the special Patreon episode here: https://www.patreon.com/gamersnexus 01:57 – What is the Best RX 5700 XT? 07:24 - Does “AMD Optimized” Memory Mean Anything? [Discord] Ianochez: “#askgn-questions Does memory tagued "AMD optimized" or "Intel something" really mean something, I know that memory controller are different in both team, while complying standard, does the optimized memory kit have XMP tuning parameters optimized? I don't really think that they redo all the PCB design on thoses kits. QVL are listing any brand and many of them aren't optimized as marketed on others. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE PART TWO OF MEMORY TIMING! I love you commitment, keep going producing good content. Ianochez. P.S: I did check this text for typos with your voice in my head, pretty creepy ahah yo!” 13:30 - Can You Show Us All 200 Rows of Case Thermals? [Discord] Banana Milk: “#askgn-questions In your P400A review you mentioned you had over 200 rows of test data from different cases. Can we see a graph asking the number of cases as each temperature increment? :GN:” 16:44 - Does Hyperthreading / SMT Have Cost? [Discord] Sonicjms: “#askgn-questions Does Hyperthreading / Simultaneous Multithreading have an implementation cost? Does it require more power or better binned silicon or something like that?” 21:42 - Silence vs. Airflow Case Trade-Offs? [Discord] ekt: “Hi, newbie here. Not new on building my own pc, but out of the market for a while. I was brought here by the long hair heavy metal guy's honesty and lack of non-sense. I have a question about a build, and I hope some expert here can help meI want to build a machine that stays dead silent when doing light stuff like browsing, writing code or editing documents but it should be able to run recent games. in this case it should be 'as quiet as possible' but a little noise would be tolerableI'm skeptical of a totally fanless system. Sure, is possible, but it's kind of an extreme solution where one needs to shell a lot of money and accepts compromises. How would you approach it? I can see two options- Using a very 'noise-insulated' case with a few fans and standard components- Using a 'more ventilated case' (like a fractal meshify-c) and trying to have all components fanless except the gfx card” 27:00 - 3600 & Aftermarket Cooler vs. 3700X? Discord: wdvefbrgn: “#askgn-questions Would you rather have a 3600 with an aftermarket cooler or a 3700x for mostly gaming and light work” 28:56 - Multi-Tasking Benchmarks & Clean Test Operating Systems [Discord] Kobberholm08/10/2019#askgn-questions The UserBenchmark debacle raised an interesting point that I think was never adressed.Higher core count should provide more stable performance on unoptimized systems with more background processes running, but all professional benchmarks are done with slimmed down systems with relatively clean installs, skewing results in favor of just IPC/clocks or at least not taking full advantage of the many cores.Could you do a couple of performance comparisons of low corecount vs high corecount processors with realistic (medium - heavy) background processes running (Antivirus, Discord, Telegram, Chrome with a few "heavy" pages open etc). 36:22 - Which Direction Do Fans Spin in Australia? [Discord] Nory: “#askgn-questions @GN Staff Why do all PC case fans rotate counterclockwise?” We have a new GN store: https://store.gamersnexus.net/ ** Please like, comment, and subscribe for more! ** Follow us in these locations for more gaming and hardware updates: t: http://www.twitter.com/gamersnexus f: http://www.facebook.com/gamersnexus w: http://www.gamersnexus.net/ Host: Steve Burke Video: Josh Svoboda, Andrew Coleman
