The Pitchfork industrial complex doesn't always accept some completely at first as those cases I discussed. For instance, Flying Lotus needed some time to become approved by the media similar to Pitchfork, I think. I mean, his early works weren't as glowingly accepted as his later ones, but then again he also did hit his stride later on. What that one is should be debated – I cannot really be sure how to define him, though I do listen to him a bit sparingly thanks to me being unsure where to start with him and what I observe from him, fascinates me –, since he does have a certain Sakamoto-like propensity to be focused on being all over the place, if that makes sense. He's not chaotic, because he makes this chaos work for him.

Here's a 12x12 of some of my favorite albums that aren't rap albums. I did one of those recently as well, which you can find here. I think some years back I also made a similar list of the albums that were most influential for me, but this is more of an inclusive list of the stuff I generally just enjoy listening to the most these days. One album per artist, and only the first two rows are in order. Notes:

Maybe a little on the nose with a few tracks, but fuck it, we ball. I went for a lot of ethereal instrumentals for a feeling of secrecy, of being initiated into mysteries or stepping into the unfamiliar, considering Yrliet's personal quests and the actions required of the player to get her to open up. The biggest departure from the rest of the tracks is probably Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, which I included to bring in a sense of externality and a lack of belonging; I think a dimension of Yrliet's character that some players turn into a joke or flanderise her with is her longing for Crudarach, which is a crying shame, because I think it creates a lot of interesting tension--hell, it drives the inciting incident for the central conflict of Act 3. Road to Hell (Reprise) is here for similar reasons. Last Plane Out goes on everyone's playlist because I said so.

The first real touch with death.

Well I guess one never really understands that experience fully.

Death will always remain a mystery. 

Although, at this point in life I have become quite familiar with this mystery. 

I assume we only grow closer with death as we age, 

in a sense of proximity that is both physical and mental. 

In a way that is both 

‘Death is my closest friend and also the light at the end of the tunnel’ 

The direction I am moving towards. The direction we are all moving towards.

I would not dare insult death by lacking to acknowledge her mystery. 

I would not insult death by claiming to know her, for she has only been a friend.
