Cotton Influencer Kick-Off
Tumblr media
Just this past week I had the pleasure of accompanying social media influencer Notorious Kia to dinner. Where she awaited to speak to students at Central Michigan University on how to become a social media influencer for the Cotton Inc. Influencer Kick-Off Event. And during my time with her I learned a number of things related to social media. Things in which I found to be very crucial to the success of any individual and any career, especially when marketing yourself to employers. Out of everything I learned there were 4 take aways I got from my conversation with this real- live expert in the field currently.
Everyone Should Have a Social Media: Social media has become such a huge component within our live and the job industry that is it almost always necessary to have a social media to get ahead in this world. If you want to progress within your job or seek to gain a job, having knowledge and skills in social media puts you that much more ahead of the game. In fact, employers will be that much more likely to hire your with this knowledge.
Brand Presence is Everything: Having a brand presence and showing personality on your social media allows for people to relate to you as a human being and individual. If you are bale to do this, specifically as someone wanted to advance as a influencer or even a model, it is almost highly suggested that you have a brand presence. People want to know who you are and the everyday things that you partake in. So don’t be afraid to showcase that, instead of boring selfies.
Different Angles, More Views: As mentioned above, boring pictures are not something that engaging your audience, so it is important to be able to showcase the simplest scene or photo in a way that is creative and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. So don’t be afraid to experiment and take tons of photos from different angles and view points to bring variety to your organizations main page such as instagram. The visible photos that appear on the main page of a persons instagram are the most important one because it is what draws the customer or target audience to continuing scrolling. You have to be able to grab their attention within the first click of your page. People will just look at your page or follow it just because it is pretty, so make it aesthetically pleasing and cohesive as a brand.
Knowledge is Power: As learned over this course, knowing what works for each platform is important to the success of engagement and promotion of your organization or self. That means knowing what works on each social media network and what doesn’t. For instance,  sharing photos on instagram pages is best  rather than in the stories of instagram.
All in all, I have to say that the information and knowledge that I have gained during my time within this course has not been done in vain and I am appreciative to have had the opportunity to learn about the value of social media and how to utilize it within my own life. Social Media is continuously  advancing and will become more demanding as time persistence.

Tuesday July 2, 2019   - Cotton Incorporated
Today we headed to Cotton Inc New York City. Cotton Inc was created in 1970 as a commitment to sustainability. The goal of the company was also to make up for a loss in the market due to synthetic fibers. Cotton Inc has global offices in New York City, Turkey, Greater Europe, China, Latin America, and South and East Asia. The New York City offices main focus is the fashion forecasting side.
During our presentation we learned, Cotton Incorporated is completely non profit. Their aim as a company is to go around to different companies and designers and influence them to use cotton as a sustainable fabric. It is a common myth that cotton is the worst fabric for the industry due to the amount of water it is used. We learned that Cotton Inc actually uses recycled rain water in the production of all their cotton and everything is reused. Overall I think it is important for fashion lovers to look into the importance of using cotton in garments! Because cotton is truly the “Fabric of Our Lives.”

Cotton Inc. Study Tour
Hi Everyone,
Today I went to Cotton Incorporated company Study Tour. It is in 488 Madison Ave. Floor 20 New York, NY 10022. It was very interesting tour for me because I am very interested on fabric and pattern. We met trend forecaster of this company, Aubrey Howard. She explained that the company is working as cotton industry where developing new technologies and production of cotton and manufacturing for increase the profits and productivity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The most interest part for me and also it was Mrs. Howard’s favorite part about the company was that she get to travel around the world to do the research or presentation. I think it is very important part for trend forecaster is they need to go around the world and experience new cultures of each country. I think going to South Korea would be also good tour for the company because we have really big fabric market called, Dong-dae-mun.

Edible Cotton Holds Promise to Eradicate World Hunger
A crop that once divided America and contributed to the US Civil War holds promise to conquer world hunger.
Researchers at Texas A&M have genetically engineered a new cotton plant to make the seeds safe for human consumption.
Cottonseed with gossypol and edible ultra-low gossypol cottonseed (ULGCS), recently passed US Department of Agriculture deregulation criteria, and now awaits approval by the US Food & Drug Administration for animal and human consumption.
youtube
For every pound of cotton fiber, a cotton plant produces 1.6 pounds of seeds, equivalent to 50 million tons of cottonseed annually, according to the International Cotton Advisory Committee. But until the recent breakthrough, cottonseed has been poisonous to many animals and people due to a toxin called gossypol.
Keerti Rathore, a professor at Texas A&M, has been lead researcher on the project for 23 years. “You could meet the basic protein requirements of hundreds of millions of people,” with the seeds, he told the San Antonio Express News. “All the chicken eggs produced in the world right now (1.4 trillion) couldn’t meet the protein in what’s being produced in cottonseed.”
Cottonseed is high in protein and plentiful, grown by nearly 20 million farmers in 80 countries—many of them with high rates of malnutrition, adds the Express News.
Edible cottonseed developed at #TAMU could provide a new nutritious protein source to feed hundreds of millions of people around the globe! https://t.co/sld5sy5D1P #WorldFoodDay pic.twitter.com/Sabd4jnEWn
— Texas A&M University (@TAMU) October 17, 2018
“It was something a lot of people had been trying to do,” Rathore added. “We did have competition from Australia and China,” but his team engineered the first breakthrough by inserting a new piece of DNA into the cotton plant to prevent the seeds from producing gossypol.
Powerhouse partners in science, Chris Saski at Clemson and David Stelly at Texas A&M, are helping farmers around the world meet the growing demand for renewable fiber, oil, and fuel by better understanding the genetics of #cotton. Learn more: https://t.co/7ZfMAcwiDn

It will take several years before farmers can grow the crop commercially, as seed supplies ramp up starting next season. Kater Hake, VP Cotton Inc., said the discovery “opens up the opportunity that eventually every cotton plant will have this technology in it. There’s no reason to leave a toxin in a domesticated plant.”
Hake added that there’s enough protein in cottonseeds to meet the daily requirements of 600 million people if all cotton worldwide were replaced with edible varieties. The industry is also targeting aquaculture, said Hake, as cottonseeds can be fed to carnivorous fish like salmon and trout that eat ground-up fish. Cotton can also be a low-cost alternative replacing up to half of all fishmeal.
“The kernels from the safe seed could be ground into a flour-like powder after oil extraction and used as a protein additive in food preparations or perhaps roasted and seasoned as a nutritious snack,” said Rathore.
“It’ll taste like hummus,” he noted. “It’s not at all unpleasant.”
But as the Express News notes, before that product appears on grocery shelves, “an agreement will have to be reached with a seed company willing to market the trait for cotton farmers worldwide.” Texas A&M is in talks with potential distributors.

Cotton has been promoted for decades as part of ‘the fabric of our lives. That claim perhaps is just now being fully understood as biotech marks another milestone in bettering our lives.

Cotton, Inc.
Cotton, Inc. is a brand that focuses on sustainability. Cotton, Inc.  helps companies manufacture, market and sell cotton products more efficiently and more profitably.
When our class went to visit Cotton, Inc’s NY headquarters we got to listen to a presentation about the company.  I learned about how they have people who travel all over the world to get inspiration for trends and colors and to take pictures for mood boards.  It was interesting to me.  They also talked about how they will present to brands to persuade them to use their cotton and that they show brands how different trends and silhouettes can be achieved with cotton.
