- mindcrack season 3. And season 4 if you want rhat one was pretty good too. TW for mindcrack s3 tho the r slur gets used by other members sometimes, so i understand if you don't want to watch it. Other than that, many many great moments

With every new year it hurts more and more like real aching in my chest that I am one of so few Mindcrack fans left in a fandom that EXISTS because of Mindcrack.

That with joy I see people discovering moments from Mindcrack that I take for granted, but it's bittersweet because I know that's not really what they're here for. That they haven't watched the videos I have, and that's fine. In turn, I missed most seasons from this fandom.

But a big part of me longs for anyone to understand what Mindcrack really was, for anyone to care because it has inherent value in and of itself and not just in relation to another thing.

Sometimes I catch myself thinking "you would have LOVED the UHCs, or OOGE, or The Building Game, PlayMindcrack, Dwarves Vs Zombies, the Podcast, Race for the Wool, the E-Pranker, their Minecon panels, Team Nancy Drew, the Crackpack..." but there's just too many good moments that people are missing out on, and I don't even know where to begin.

I feel so old when people comment about how jarring it is seeing Bdubs' old skin.

How people don't know anything good about Genny.

There are people who don't know SethBling, or who've never heard of Super Hostile.

I understand, but I feel overwhelming sadness thinking about it all. Seeing people who have never watched a Mindcrack video in their life talking about it like it's part of the past when I'm not ready to let go yet.

And then Tango and Impulse will laugh together on stream about a reference I know so vividly because it's been part of my heart for more than half my life, and I remember that they were just like I was, that they still remember fondly, maybe even bittersweet too, everything I do. I can't help seeing myself. They didn't know they would eclipse Mindcrack ten times over. Do they worry about their future too?

Usernames etched into my school binders and sketches scribbled across homework a decade old, created with the fondness and admiration of someone excited for new videos. The same list over and over again.

I'm driving myself sick with nostalgia. Anyone who loved YHS, you know it too. I just never believed it would be so empty someday, and much like YHS it would not be the same for someone new to start watching now. In several ways, those chapters are over. Still there as an echo of that era, but on the thinnest of threads.

Mindcrack, you will always be loved.

I have this really specific fond memory I'd like to share.

First time i played minecraft with mods was with a modpack called the "CrackPack" and in it included a bunch of fantasy mods. In one mod was a huuuuge redwood tree, like the diameter of the trunk was around 10 blocks. I would spend time hollowing out this giant tall tree in creative and make it into a home. I'd have a room at the very top with big windows overlooking the land. Under a window i would make a desk and place a typewriter. In this mod you could use the typewriter to write books. I didn't play minecraft to fight bosses, or play survival, or even build much in creative. I would just play to write stories in that typewriter.

I now play more normally lol. I love actually playing the game now, but im playing with mods again, this time with a custom pack i made. I have had this world for over a year. It started when for the first time in literally 2 to 3 years, i felt well enough to play on my computer without voice commands. It was short lived, but i promised to get back on this world when i started getting better and recovering from my CRPS. About a year later i got back on. I have now been playing it for months, everyday, for hours each day. As long as i take a 20 minute break every 20 minutes, i can actually use a computer now. The most isolating part of my illness wasn't being bedridden. It was being bedridden AND unable to play games. No switch, 3DS, or computer for 3 YEARS. No video games, a huge hobby of mine, for three years.

And now i sit here, in game, sitting on a swing i built in a tree, overlooking a very cuttered picnic area i built for me and my friends. Book and quill in hand, doing some automatic writing like i did 10 years ago.

Some of us chronically ill people are never getting better. We're never going to be able bodied again. I not only feel greatful i have this, but i just want to say, even if you have a progressive disease like i do, you might not know what next year will bring. Maybe things will never be the same, but things CAN get better. No, i don't mean you are going to recover, no one can tell you that. I mean LIFE can get better. Right now im recovering, maybe in a few years I'll get worse again, but that doesn't mean LIFE will always be bad. Even when im 60, and this illness has done even more damage, there will be SOMETHING that gives me joy, somewhere, somehow.

CrackPack 2 Revived!

Hey there! Did you play the CrackPack modpack for Minecraft 1.7.10 back circa 2015? Got nostalgia for those days? Wanna go back? I have a modpack for you! With much pain and many hours of troubleshooting, I've put together an updated version of the CrackPack (as featured on MindCrack and season 2 of Mianite) that actually works in 2022, unlike the version hosted on ATLauncher.

Nearly all of the mods that were present in the original pack are there, and many have been updated to newer, more stable versions. I also took the time to find a version of OptiFine that doesn't crash (you're welcome). There are nearly 200 mods in this pack, so it's pretty heavy, but it's tons of fun! No third-party programs/launchers required. Just install Minecraft 1.7.10 from the official launcher, then follow the installation instructions for the pack.

I'll include the download link in a reblog as soon as I post it (in case Tumblr eats the link). It's a Google Drive folder containing everything you need to run the pack except for Minecraft itself, as well as a full list of what mods are included and what versions. There's also a list of what mods aren't included compared to the original, mostly because I couldn't find a version that works.

I think my favourite difference between Dream SMP and Hermitcraft (and friends like Mindcrack and X Life etc) is that dsmp is so new. Like most of these streamers are recent arrivals on the mcyt scene! If you want character lore for the dream team you have the dsmp, manhunt, the Minecraft but challenges, and possibly munchymc. If you want Techno lore you have dsmp, smpearth, a very brief smplive appearance iirc, and Hypixel to pull from. Phil has Hardcore instead of Hypixel. Tommy has smpearth, dsmp, and the mod videos. Like that's really not a Lot ya know?

Now compare to Hermitcraft, which has 7 seasons spanning nearly a decade. Individual members have been around for a while, too. Grian's the famous example so if you want Grian lore you can turn to YHS, Kingdom of Valor, Arkus, Evo, Wynncraft, the building tutorials and build challenges. Vintagebeef has seven seasons of Mindcrack on top of three seasons of Hermitcraft, as well as Sourceblock and Skyblock and Building a Zoo and Pixelmon and every ctm map ever made. He's got UHC and RAD and FTB and Foolcraft and Crackpack. Beef alone has a decade of lore to pick from. Etho's got his single player series and Iskall has Kingdomcraft and Vault Hunters and Funcraft. Zisteau has ZPM and Kurt is walking to the Farlands. Scott has X Life and One Life and Harmony Hollow and Kingdomcraft and of course there's MCC.

Like this is not to be negative or anything- Tubbo has less videos to watch because he's made less videos, it's not an Issue- but it means for writing and aus there is a lot more to look at and play with. Like should hermit!Grian lore take KoV lore into account? Terrible implications if you do but you can, but bringing in NPC Grian is probably a "yeah, that's a cool idea, let's look at that" and is something fun to figure out and include.

theres a couple time in the past you've said you dont do sonas or oc's that are yourself. do you have any characters that are a lot like you anyway? which is the most like you appearance or personality wise/

The trick is I can create characters that I mean as stand-ins of myself, but the closest I ever get is characters that “embody the relationship I have with a particular game”, and it has a tendency to not... keep.

Spark is a good case of that- a character I invented as my minecraft-verse "self” back when I was playing FTB Crackpack. He’s an arcane tinkerer who started out as a dabbler, got his entire body ripped apart by a magical portal in a relatively sanity-twisting exercise, spent a while feral as some kind of betentacled eldritch monster, and then gradually recovered and put his brain- and body- back together.

The problem is basically whenever I start getting into the juicy backstory details that make a character fun and interesting I end up making someone who is different from myself. While Spark has qualities that are in some way a fantasy for me (no boobs, shapeshifting) or things I find exciting as ideas (does weird science in a tower) ultimately that ends up being “A person who is not me”. So Spark might just start out as a sock puppet for me, but, like. inevitably I think way too hard about this person’s world and history and they end up Not Being Me. Though that’s not just on Spark- while Spark’s grown into his own dude, I’ve also changed myself (and the way I play minecraft) such that I no longer have all of the same things in common with Spark. So this is why I don’t tend to keep a lot of ‘sonas or “me but in [x] universe” because I am a little too good at accidentally mitosizing into characters that are Not Me.

The only time I have ever been safe from this is this funky little dude who I don’t use for things but is how I would choose to appear if I ever, like. had a burning reason to depict myself:

in which there is no attached worldbuilding or anchoring to a particular canon- just me thinking my favorite fluffy pjs sorta made me look like a fuzzy little creature and then I wanted to draw said fuzzy little creature.

Off the bat, every single Team Canada Prank. I’ve practically memorized the Sky Shrooms and King of the Ladder episodes. That moment when Guude realized Etho was part of the prank and said “We? Who’s we?” and Etho stuttered and fell backwards off the mushrooms to his death was the first moment in my life that I truly felt alive. #TheOfficeIsAGoodShow #RealMenUseTheirRingFinger

Von Swaying Guude’s house changed my whole outlook on Minecraft. How could someone make something so darn ugly and yet so beautiful? It’s the epitome of doing something for the sole purpose of shit starting creating and having fun rather than aiming for perfect and never finishing. Zisteau is a great addition to any video 10/10 educational content

Just about every moment in Guude/Nebris/Pakratt/Arkas’ TerraFirmaCraft Reloaded series. Had to pause videos multiple times to write down quotes and even then I passed up some good ones! I fully intend on rewatching the series from each perspective. Arkas getting slain by bear, Guude and Arkas secretly growing mushrooms and getting high, Pakratt confusing dolomite and diorite, literally everything Arkas does, THE COWS, that last episode of absolute chaos wtf Pakratt

UHC #ForTheKidsSeven with Single Malt scotch’s skyblock base and rampant cheating from every team except Nebris’. I fucking LOVED that near-kill with the anvil, and all the chaos as the border shrank. Four players stuck in a 1x1 column! The arrow volley between SMS and SkyblockJr. Can this happen every UHC?

Speaking of UHC, Etho and BdoubleO’s epic fight in season 11! He was absolutely on the ball with those potions, I was sure he’d die before he could use them all. And Etho’s fight with Guude right before that was hilarious! Guude high as fuck on percocets and Etho like completely confused at what Guude was doing. The original UHC skybase by Zisteau #I’mALavaExpert and Anderz reaction to the skybase, and then to Guude’s dogs

The whole portal thing in season 3 with Pause, Kurt, and Beef too! That has remained one of my favourite UHC moments since I saw it, there is nothing more classic. Every single season I hope someone will make a portal for no reason and end up in someone else’s base with them. #TheWolfTheWolfAmazing!

Zisteau’s E-Pranker Montage. I legitimately cry every time I watch it, particularly during 0.5 (the fourth prank) when he rebuilds Bdubs’ first house from his Building With BdoubleO series. Bdubs’ moment of realization hits me like a train even though I know it’s coming. Like, if someone built my first Minecraft base to prank me I think I would die on impact, but like in a good way.

And back to UHC! Season 14 episode 5. HOOOOOOLY FUCK! 2spooky4me should have totally been a UHC team! Remember when Zisteau played UHC? It just isn’t UHC without him to be honest. And besides the #BadYouTubers and #ImALavaExpert moments from Super Hostile and Ninja Turtles, Parkas had a great season as well! Shit, everyone was awesome! Parkas listening in on BTC finding a silverfish, Doc listening in on Ole Yeller right before Zisteau-ing himself and swearing, Baj hiding nether wart, every single drunken drink Genny did, Parkas towers “we should smelt some stone to make bricks”, snnnnowballs! :D, HEY JSANO! WHY YOU RUNNING JSANO?, “ooooh, we’re right behind you haha” “BTC, they’re actually here.” Pakratt was slain by generikb, Avidya’s spooky voice echoing around Seth and Anderz “You wouldn’t hurt an old teammate, would you?” “I dunno. It’s been awhile.” Just. God this was a good season.

Season 19 with Vechs and BTC! You’ve heard all the famous quotes, “how did I get stuck with you of all people” “Vechs, Vechs. I don’t hate you anymore” “He’s not dying. He’s just mad right now.” “Did it come from your hand, knocking a teammate off the ledge?” “THAT WAS A MOD!” etc etc. I also like MC’s half heart midnight desert dash, although it took a good 10 years of my life from the stress. Oblivious Pakratt running away from his teammates as they yell after him and then wondering why he hasn’t found anyone yet. Seth’s reaction to MC’s diamonds. Coe’s post commentary, again, you know the quotes: “Left. Chicken. Right. Chicken.” “This bucket has wheels!” “Are you gonna put that dirt in a chest?!” etc. Kurt finding Beef “Sharpness Five diamond sword!” and PiMP turning around. F1 and PiMP in general. SwedishZen and Millbee with the melons.

Obligatory mentions: “NOOO YOUR DOGS KILLING ME!!!!”, 2Germans1Hole, Zisteau crafting a clock and finding every excuse to use it during the game so that those 4 gold didn’t go to waste, Rob’s jukebox battles, Anderz fighting spiders when a creeper wanders into his hole, Bdubs’ “real” season 9 ending, Nebris going God-mode “HIT ME ALL YOU LIKE”, Nebris and Pause double kill, Nebris and Pyro double kill with Bdubs watching and cleaning up at half a heart and then Etho cleaning up again and finding the potions B left and Bdubs interrupting his video to do facecam to explain that he’s a nice guy who shares and leaves gifts for others (basically whenever Bdubs does facecam in UHC. Let’s face it, when Bdubs whips out the cam you know you’re in for a good show), Team Uppercats season 10. All of it.

Trouble in Terrorist Town when Pyro and Coe pull a long con on Pause and Guude in like episode 9 during the last round. I had to pause the video to take it all in, I was just in awe. That series is one of my favourites! I always watch from Pause.

In original DvZ when BTC got warned for breaking a cake. Also Pause’s helmet!

Team Canada CTM uhhh forgot which series, but Pause and Beef getting stuck in a hole, Etho dying, placing TNT over their heads, and singing “Pause and Beef, best of friends” while Beef panics.

Etho calling Pause fat as a joke and Pause taking it serious and then Etho going “wait, are you actually fat?’ lmao.

Pause yelling about vacations on episode 37 of the podcast with BdoubleO “STOP TELLING PEOPLE I’M GOING ON VACATION IT’S NOT A VACATION!!!!!!!” and every time he’s yelled about vacations or muted his mic.

Baj reading a question and mid sentence switching to talking about the curry he had last night, and then there’s a pause and the rest of Nancy Drew fucking loses it.

On the podcast, Kurt’s “Wake me up, boys!” That whole episode was a blast!

The whole “sitting or standing?” debate and the guests’ reactions to it.

Doc accidentally killing Notch on the Mindcrack server, and Dinnerbone confused about him not dropping an apple.

Doc’s zombie death loop from season 4 with Anderz saving the day and then promptly dying.

B-Team mafia in survival of the fittest, Etho killing Genny, and B and Etho teaming up afterwards. Also B and Pungence talking excitedly at the end was adorable, you can really tell they’re brothers lol. And Etho drinking out of the outhouse! Bdubs’ comment on that video killed me lol. And Etho forgetting his push-to-talk and failing to team up with Doc.
