If you browse through Mary's IG feed, you'll see gorgeous, decadent and sensual #erotichenna or #lingeriehenna, so you imagine when you meet her to be a burlesque, Dita-Von-Teese type artist with a suggestive nature lol. The truth is I found her to be super down to earth, incredibly artistic (she is highly educated in art) and very calming and grounding to be in the presence of. I longed to spend more time with her, to get to know her better. Her learning materials in the workshop textbook were AMAZING and her classes are eye opening and educational for the intermediate to advanced henna artist. This burgeoning bond that I am developing with #JaguaInk is a genuinely pleasant surprise. While I am tweaking and testing out recipes that suit my drawing style I'm trying to explore a variety of design ideas. This was a paste test that clearly grew beyond my expectations! I taped it up and kept the paste on overnight. And now, 2 days since application, the stain has bloomed incredibly! I hope everybody celebrating has had a wonderful #Ramadan period, and enjoyed #EidUlFitr with loved ones. For the first time ever, I decided to open up #EidJagua appointments at my studio, forgoing my usual consultation process. And I'm so. so glad I did. This work features my 10% xanthan gum recipe (so that's 1g of xanthan gum to 10g of raw jagua powder - I eyeballed the syrup and water ratio - sorry, I don't have a recipe for you yet), but it is a dream to work with. In my humble opinion I think the time has come for jagua artists to take control of their pastes and mix their own recipes - much like we already do with our henna paste, to REALLY be able to enjoy the different but equally magical qualities of #JaguaBodyArt - REMEMBER, @jaguaink is supplied and produced by The Darien Initiative who provide opportunities for the local Indian tribes in the Darien Gap through Community base efforts. By creating opportunities they help the community keep tribal traditions alive and be able to pass them down to generations to come. Hello strangers! Have you missed my posts?! LOL, I'm pretty sure the algorithms have kept everybody busy tbh. I'm popping to update you all finally on the raw #jagua powder experiments I've been mixing over the holidays. I have now tried the @jaguaink premixed jagua powder, 100% raw jagua powder and finally a 10% xanthan gum + raw jagua powder, and I feel I have achieved my magic formula for the perfect #jaguapaste! *the heavens part and angels sing - laaaahhhh*. My lil wist #totoro here was applied using pure, raw jagua powder, syrup and water. It was gritty and uneven - and I was so disappointed. My previous post features the 10% xanthan gum recipe (so that's 1g of xanthan gum to 10g of raw jagua powder - I eyeballed the syrup and water ratio - sorry, I don't have a recipe for you yet), but it was a dream to work with. Possibly a little lighter in colour, although honestly it was still a very rich blue colour. In my humble opinion I think the time has come for jagua artists to take control of their pastes and mix their own recipes - much like we already do with our henna paste, to REALLY be able to enjoy the different but equally magical qualities of #JaguaBodyArt - REMEMBER, @jaguaink is supplied and produced by The Darien Initiative who provide opportunities for the local Indian tribes in the Darien Gap through Community base efforts.
