Good bye little birdies! Yesterday Sarah, one of the @letssticktogether2021 artists, came by. Her visit gave us the impetus to finish our triptych. We’ll be posting it later today. Nothing better than receiving a new tile to start the day! This time it came all the way from Germany where little Martha and mum Claire live. D’s reactions in videos 🎬😉👉🏾 Claire is a very special soul. I found her work in the area of feminist anthropology and sustainability online over 8 years ago I think. Around the time I was looking for other like-minded birds to roost around the ideas of enabling others to create sustainable communities by nurturing their *minds et motion* 🌱 Lots have happened since but our long distance friendship has sustained all the changes. It’s the kind of friendship built on a deep intuition the other gets you without needing many words. You just admire each other for who they are from a far and hope one day you’ll get to catch up in person around a cup of tea! We are almost 1/3 in what started on the 12th of February as an improbable post calling for spontaneous offers of help to transform the vestige of @davidjackwickert and I’s life pre lockdowns into something worth keeping on hoping for... Fast forward and almost 2 months on the murmuration of old and new friends, family members, as well as complete strangers from the UK, Belgium, France, Portugal, Australia, Germany, and the US is in full swing. We are so grateful to every single one of the 44 generous souls who have answered our call and brought so much joy into our little dark corner. We felt the ❤️ from Hannah & Ben @ben.a.mackenzie 🧗‍♀️ today! We absolutely love their tiles. David really came alive looking at them. You can hear his reviews in the short videos! Their creations reflect well who they are to us. A bright, warm, and generous couple. We first met them @yurtcafelondon , our favourite local community café. And soon after Hannah introduced us to the amazing Bromley by Bow community @bromley_by_bow_centre theatre group. That led us to many wonderful adventures with the National theatre etc... They’ve moved out of London to start a new life in Tunbridge Wells, where D and I started ours together. We have so many fond memories of the deer park where we lived. We wholeheartedly wish them the very best in this beautiful corner of the world! That will become the back of Nelly’s collage (see previous post) , but still need to find out how to print photographs onto fabric! Any tips, suggestions welcome! **Update** I received great tips from Sharon @stitchedinstone from whom the offcuts fabric come from. « Use Jacquard brand A4 paper backed cotton sheets. Rainbow Silks sells a pack of 10 for about £20. You just photocopy as you would onto paper but slide in the cotton sheet where you normally put the paper in your printer. The paper back peels off. You could just stitch on but I use double sided iron on vilene/bondaweb to completely fix flat to the base fabric of the project. Sorting and prepping bits and bobs to create with D a collage for my beloved mami Nelly to enjoy. 🫀 We’ll be using one of her favourite colour schemes and all kinds of lush textures to remind her of the endless times when she got immersed into her own world of sewing which provided her so much joy and solace whenever life got tough. And that happened quite a few times over her 101 years and counting. Unfortunately her beautiful blue eyes and frail body do not allow her to escape into that safe and wonderful world where the carefully choreographed dance of her agile hands did all the talking. But the bear and I hope this little creation in the making might bring her some joy nonetheless. Now off to find out how to best transfer photographs onto fabric!Any tips, suggestions welcome! *UPDATE* I got tips and shared them in my next post!
