TL;DR: kestrel is a borrowing from French, the word originally referring to a tool producing a loud noise similar to a bird's cry; it comes from the same root as English crack.

Since I made it so witches can be w/e gender I wanted to incorporate Wizards/Warlocks in another way to further make that clear!

Wizards/Warlocks are familiars that have betrayed their witches and are then cursed to never be able to fulfill their purpose ever again. They tend to hide and shame and often become very dangerous.

Mirker and Claro are Wizards that were taken in by the Priestess. She uses blood magic to give them some escape form their cursed true forms

Mirker has been in his cursed true form for a very long time before The priestess found him.Hes less trusting of The Priestess than he is Claro, seeing another familiar like him transform motivated him to join The Priestess. Hes now a loyal follower of The Priestess but hes still as short tempered.

Claro has been with The Priestess a long time. His kind hearted witch suddenly became quite vicious and dangerous and so Claro put her down knowing for the rest of his immortal like hed be cursed. Like all familiar he craved the company of a witch and was quick to follow The Priestess.

Gracie Lace is a name I had for another witch I didnt care about so Im just taking the name and giving it to this character instead. I wanted another coven so the Coven Matriarch will be Gracie. I think I want her to be a human before one of the longest lived human-witches in the realm originally from the first dynasty of Egypt. Shes built her coven similarly to the Pharaohs. She rejected several familiars wanting a cat but was enchanted by the King Cobra she named Neit, she uses Neits venom in potions and has become an adept healer... She is said to be a strict ruler but her coven is incredibly loyal and all trained to use their magic in combat... TBC

Archibald, Addilynn, and Charlie where young witches from a specific coven, theyve trained together for decades. Archibald began learning blood magic and was cast out of their coven and soon after, Addilynn and Charlie disappeared after going to search for him, It is rumored both Addi and Charlie died in the process of creating the stunted cyclops Poppet. Both Addi and Charlies familiars are now kept with Archibald.

Blood Magic is forbidden due to its cruel possibilities. It is most often used by male witches who have already moved on from or were banished by their Covens.

Conway in particular uses it frequently to enhance his strength and magic, he has scars all over his body where hes drained his blood for experiments, he is also willing to use blood from willing donators, though its not a very common thing. But who would trust a random guy who lives alone in the woods to drain some of their blood for magic experiments? 

Blood Magics most important use is in the creation of Cyclops.

Soul Stones are another ingredient in the creation of Cyclops. They are condensed souls- either from pixies or the sap from the tree of souls deep within the Dead Wood.

Cyclops can only be created by powerful magic users and most are owned by witches but occasionally a demon can be powerful enough to create one- Alastair being the most powerful of the demons, having created it to keep his lover safe after his fall.

Something something Gregs final moments at the hands of a ‘cyclops‘ (Crecelle isnt actually a Cyclops, he was a witch who was captured by a cowardly wolf who used him to sneak into a coven for protection after his pack was wiped out.)

so for october, i’ve decided i’m going to try to post one OC each day again, like i did last year. maybe it’ll be a slightly yearly thing only not bc i don’t have that many OCs i’m pretty sure. anyway, i’m also going to include a little* blurb about each of them bc i also miss talking about them rip :v * little not guaranteed

today’s OC is amparo, from the mirror story. she’s kiete’s adoptive mother and took him in when she found him as a child after his family seemingly abandoned him. there isn’t A Lot to say about her atm tbh-- she owns an inn in the little town called plainsong and has lived there for some time, but there’s lots of rumors that she’s a good deal more traveled and worldly than she seems

there’s also rumors that she knows some sort of magic, but she tends not to say one way or the other and is a master at changing the conversation. she has a slight rivalry or an unresolved tension with crecelle, but generally tolerates him well enough bc kiete finds him fascinating lmao

she spends most of the story in the background, since kiete runs away from home in an attempt to save it (and especially her). she definitely gives kiete a good earful when he makes it back in the middle of the story tho. she also takes a liking to another character who comes back with him named patia

Baal: His first, arguably you can say Sinbad’s bias when it comes to this djinn because this was the one that started everything. It was the djinn that helped him believe he was different helped him believe that he was special and as for me I’m digging the dragon aesthetic and just the overall raw power. So I give this a 8/10

Valefor: Arguably Sinbad’s most prettiest form. Honestly at first like when I first saw it in the anime I had little care for Valefor until I literally understood its abilities. I mean my buds can attest to how many times I’ve had sin go Valefor in rp because strategically it’s his best in-slot. Not to mention the design grew on me. ALSO it looks like a middle-eastern version of Yu yu hakusho’s Yoko Kurama, so that’s a win. 7/10

Zepar: This was another djinn that grew on me, okay first of all in the world of roleplay this djinn is just god moding (I think that’s what they call it) and I never really use it unless I’ve got consent from my writing partner OR i’m having him do something to an NPC. Whilst I don’t often use the full Djinn equip in my discord drabbles I DO use its ability to have Sinbad use his falcon (which I call Senu in AU verse after my boy in AC Origins) to scope out an area, or act as a sort of midieval whatsapp DM, have them speak to him and Sinbad gets the message through its ears. Good stuff. 6/10

Vepar: The one for me that’s misunderstood. We haven’t really seen THIS djinn in action until like the final arc and how could we? There’s really no reason for Sin to really pull these bad boys out on these scrubs. From what I understand my homegirl gives Sin the abilities to conjure up bladed projectiles so I’m guessing It’s kinda like Fate’s Gilgamesh’s gates of babylon. (where he just tosses sharp things at you in high speed). The ‘younger’ look it gives him is a plus for me because I honestly missed Sin as a 14 year old and it would have been fun to see him full djinn equip at that age. Giving this a 6/10

Focalor: Who I swear is Sinbad’s past life. Like screw him being like David or Solomon for that fact. Sin is definitely Focalor’s reincarnation. Aesthetically this djinn is pleasing to look at and considering it uses wind magic I really think THIS is his strongest djinn. Cause think about it, if they can recharge their magoi by using the elements at its rawest form, all my boy has to do is breathe. There’s air EVERYWHERE. This djinn equip’s just loaded with drip so it gets a 8/10.

Crocell: Truthfully this was the one I disliked the most aesthetically. What can I say I never was one that dug Centaurs but seeing the boy in action in the final arc made me admit that it does look pretty awesome, so you know I had to put some respect on his name. I just wished he did something flashy..unless I missed it and he did. Feel free to link me to the panel where Crecell did something magic-esque. So i’m giving him 5/10

Furfur: Last but not least it’s THE BOY, Furfur. The name might sound ridiculous but this djinn to me is the best in aesthetics, and power. I mean it’s a Djinn of LIGHT that looks like the devil. You know what that means? Our homie Furfur LITERALLY took a look at Sinbad and said ‘you remind me of what christians call Lucifer’ and there we go. And honestly it quite fits him, Sinbad is a man that aims to bring light into the world and if it means he needs to be branded as a devil, well then he’ll do it. And have I mentioned that this djinn just looks badass?? Cause it does, this djinn is the GOAT of all Djinns and it gets the perfect score of 10/10

The first character I fleshed out was Greg because hes gonna die before anything big even happens 😂😂😂 I wanted to create a fake protagonist.... Fauxtagonist? Like build him up enough to get people to like his generic nice relatable personality and THEN KILL HIM. Thats all hes there for.

Gregory Fylnn Age: 18 BD:  Aug 20 (Leo) HT: 6'1" Style: Geek chic: comic/movie/TV shirts, simple jeans, thick glasses, fandom tattoos on his arms. Basic personality traits: Gentle, Messy, Earnest, Awkward, Talkative Hair-Eye-Skin color: Sandy blond-Green-Pale Greg is an ascended fanboy of the television paranormal investigation crew-- Soul Searchers. After the crew announced theyd be holding a contest to win a spot investigating along side them on their special Halloween episode, Greg sent in his video and won.

Brief Relationship ref: Mom: Gregs mom is very supportive of her sons weird interest but wishes hed get out more.

Fred: Gregs Persian cat is very grumpy but is sweet only to Greg... sometimes. Gregs got plenty of scratches on his hands and arms from his beloved kitty.

Jolie: Jolie is the first person on the crew to meet up with Greg. They get along well since theyre both very passionate about the supernatural. Its hard for Greg not to fanboy around her.

Dani: Greg has a bit of a crush on Dani and it gets even more intense when he realizes she plays up her too-good-for-this princess personality on the show. Dani sees him as fresh meat to tease since Danny has grown used to it. She can easily rope Jolie in for a double kill. Danny: Dannys happy to have another guy on the crew closer to his own age because dealing with Dani and Jolie is a hassle. Hes embarrassed by Gregs fanboyishness however. Vic: As he is on TV hes very tall and intimidating but his warm nature makes it easy for Greg to talk to even if his English isnt always the best. Steve: Greg has a hard time approaching Steve due to his aloofness and Gregs own intense fanboy love for the guy. He embarrasses himself a lot in Steve's presence, not that Steve minds. Story line: Greg starts the human side of the story off by watching Soul Searches, waiting for the announcement of the winner of the Halloween contest. Hes already packed on the off chance he wins and when he does win he almost faints. He meets up with and bonds with the Soul Searchers crew wearing a T-shirt he made himself and sells online of one of the best evidence shots from the show- a shadowy, horned figure Danny captured[1]. Dannys embarrassed but happy to have another guy on the crew, Jolie gets along well with him until Dani comes along and gets roped into teasing him about his fanboyishness. Vic enjoys the show and Steve scolds everyone for not getting ready to leave. Road trip to further establish relationships between crew members. Greg finds out and is disappointed to learn that the crew dont really believe in the ghosts and monsters theyre hunting, but Jolie hopes someday they can be proven wrong. The crew are headed to a haunted island thats normally restricted but people go there anyways to investigate paranormal shenanigans. Jolies the one who got them official access to the island. On there way there they get lost and end up on a completely separate island-- not knowing theyre not where theyre supposed to be and with some of their equipment starting to act funny they split up- Jolie and Steve stay behind to try and fix their boat and other malfunctioning equipment, Vic takes the Dannies and Greg to look around. They confirm the island is not the one theyre supposed to be on but the eerie feel of the island and the accidentally finding something new-- the Dannies, Jolie, and Greg convince Steve that itd make a really fun show for their special and he eventually agrees after being faced with his excited crew and a fan he doesnt want to disappoint. Greg is delighted. Steve insists they get their bearings first and have the crew walk around the island to get a good feel of the size before they start the investigation. Greg wonders off and finds an old temple, excited by his discovery, he steps into it and looks around. He knows Steve will like it for single crew EVP sessions and runs out to tell the rest of the crew... but stepping out of the building he realizes hes not where he was before. Confused, he wanders around calling out for the crew. He hears voices in the distance and runs toward them until he stumbles upon what looks like a lion. When the creature looks up it reveals a solid white mask-like face and realizes the muffled, distant voices he heard was coming from the creature. He only freezes for a moment until the creature starts walking toward him. He runs. The creature reveals its large golden wings and flies after him, catching him easy and knocking his glasses off him. It chatters absently at him while it scratches and toys with him like a cat. The creature suddenly flies away and Matt can see the blurry figure of another person[2]. He begs for help. Without his glasses, he cant quite make out the face of the man standing above him, but is disturbed to realize he doesnt seem to have a face at all-- before he can cry out the air is sucked out of his lungs, his head covers in icy cold water and he drowns.

--Much later we can see his ghost in Dead Wood.** [1] Later revealed to be a Demon named Alastor [2] Later to be revealed to be a killer water elemental Witch named Crecelle/Quill disguised as a Cyclops. **Unclear idea so far... but... it sounded neat.

continuing with the theme, today i bring you another OC from the ‘mirror’ story fjjifepa tho he’s much more of a side character. his name is crecelle which. i. honestly don’t remember where i got that name so uh. not sure about that one. he’s a common face about the inn kiete’s adoptive mother runs, and so kiete has grown up being very familiar with him

also his bird’s name is chance, and she Talks

crecelle has basically spent the last who knows how long presenting himself as sort of a. magic show host, and travels from place to place with chance and an assistant who i haven’t. actually. created yet lmao

he also has an interest in Treasure, which has definitely gotten him into hot water in the past. nowadays, he’s generally more savvy about that kinda thing and has managed to forge all kinds of amiable relationships with various gods and spirits this way, to the point that he’s very nearly an expert on summoning different creatures and making deals with them in exchange for favors, etc.

also also, the civilization he originally hailed from has long since dissolved into nothingness, leaving him as the only survivor. in the past, he was both a friend of the royal family and their young daughter’s caretaker (i mean. to a certain degree. mostly she tended to be more cooperative with him than with her other caretakers bc he knew a bunch of neat little magic tricks that entertained her)
