had a long discussion about the difficulties of testing credit card errors in production, namely that doing so would require me to have a credit card that is a valid number, absolutely won't get somebody $600 in actual charges if we use it to test, and will get errors from the payment processor if we try charging it, and my boss just... pulls out a comically large stack of credit cards from under his desk like 'oh you could've just asked if all you needed was a bad credit card. the only thing is that most of these have been reported stolen, is that an issue?'
this makes my life a lot easier, so I'm just gonna not ask questions.

#i just saw this video about amazon having this pay with your palm technology#guys why would you give away your biometric data for convenience?!?!#we're really at this point where we will sell our privacy to save 30 seconds#and i know people have been saying this for forever#but what happens when that becomes the only way to pay?#like we are getting so close to what they describe in revelations it's scary#and yeah i get that people said that about barcodes and credit cards#but having your payment method be your literal hand?#that's too close for comfort#and it's literally not smart to give these companies that info#if they have a data breach who knows what a hacker can do with that?#i know this is a crazy scenario but what if a hacker gets ahold of your fingerprints and currupts the digital record for a crime?#on top of that you only need your fingerprints registered with the police for a few reasons like if you are a criminal or work with kids#you have the right to not have the government have your info without reason#but what happens when the government demands that Amazon (or Apple or any other company pulling this crap) give over their records?#now they have that whether you are a criminal or gave your permission or not#that would be a violation of your 4th amendment rights: to be secure in your person houses papers and effects against unreasonable seizures#don't think the government would do that? police in my area will absolutely violate that right by running plates#to see if you have an expired registration even if you weren't doing anything that required they run your plates#so yeah i fully believe the government would violate the 4th amendment#and what's more... i don't even think that they would have to demand the info i think amazon or apple would offer to sell that info to them#ok sorry for the rant#this world is just getting scary y'all

you know, as someone who follows p good security practices and my partner loves security so much he doing a masters kinda for funsies/pure interest, I wish I did get involved in data breaches so much and be stuck with identity monitoring for forever, bc of things out of my hands like a major company phone provider or my employer (a major international company and with a 3rd party service they had some files on that **I** didn't use)
#merples#my ssn was already leaked bc t-mobile and that's bc I was head of the account bc mom had bad credit#also my license but it's old and expired in 2021 so#for fucks sake I have 2 id monitoring stuff one via credit card and other bc tmobile and I got locked out of my 3rd via employer benefits#so gotta fix that but like. it's so frustrating when I'm not the weakest link with my data at all#I've gone through exercising CCPA on so many old accounts via emails and deleting them and just v good about limiting stuff#emails!!!! I sent so many!!!#that reminds me to email whitepages + other sites bc address change made me show up again

i just Love to come back to my apartment to find that my electricity is out specifically and likely has been for some time, that's just so great

Committed a social faux pas today and I hate it

trying to apply for a credit card with guaranteed approval and finding out only after your application was approved that it's a secured card is Not Great
I purposefully did not select the cards labelled as secured cards because I don't have the money for a secured deposit. I picked- based on all information provided and how it was presented- what I thought was just a regular low-balance credit card designed for low-income or high-risk customers to be an alternative to secured cards for helping to rebuild credit
#i had the annual fee saved up and thought 'hey here's a different card that ISN'T secured and the annual fee is the same- I can do that!'#and then#NOPE it's a secured card#so why is it labelled differently? why does the info summary not indicate that it's a secured card when the other secured cards do?#well the upshot is that I have 120 days to come up with $300 or else it expires there's no other way to cancel the application#no idea what it's going to do to my credit score but there's no much i can do about that now#i figured since signing up for a credit builder product my avg account age halved & dropped my score#i may as well add another account now while it won't have as drastic an effect on my avg age but i guess i've done more damage#and i'm just gonna have to wait for it to sort itself out#anything i try to do now will almost definitely make it even worse

My credit card, whom I've taken so good care of and kept her safe and always gave her enrichment like Amazon Order and Takeout, is expiring in March. Upsetting. Terrible. She's remembered by so many sites. She's not even a tap card (ancient 2019 relic). Girl her last 4 numbers... Girl am I gonna lose her last 4 numbers.
What if they issue me a new card before I'm ready to move on? What if they don't even ask me "how are you doing?" :(. It's like I already lost her. Her favorite activity was "autopayment"...
