Crossed Chapter 3
“He wants to stop his next canon event, by trying to save you.”
You whip your head towards Miguel, ears ringing as you barely processed what he had all but snarled at you. His claws had come out and he was gunning for you. Before you could speak before you could think, before you could breathe, Hobie had a firm grip around your waist as he shot his web fluid up towards the ceiling, hoisting you up with him.
“Hang on,” Hobie grunts.
“Stop them!” Miguel shouts.
All variations of Spider-Men look torn, some slowly starting to move toward you an Hobie, and the rest looking around with their feet planted.
Chasing Miles to stop him from getting back to his world to save his father is one thing, helping Miguel stop Hobie so he can make sure you die (even if Miguel has to murder you himself) is a new low.
Once Hobie gets you both up into one of the rafters, he lets go of you to fiddle with his watch, stopping every few seconds to shoot his webs at the few advancing spiders, and especially Miguel, who is clawing his way up to you in a rage.
“Um, Hobie…”
More of the Spiders decided to join Miguel in his efforts.
“C’mere quick,” he pulls you in front of him to slide his watch onto your wrist. Your eyes widen, and as soon as it latches on to you, he presses something on it and a portal opens.
He continues to shoot his webs at Miguel who is nearly on the same rafter as you. Hobie shoves you behind him and toward the portal.
“Go! ‘m right behind ya!”
You had a horrible, horrible feeling about this.
“I’m not leaving without you!”
Hobie doesn’t look at you, preoccupied with slowing Miguel down.
“Yes you are. I’ll be right behind you.”
“You promise?”
He glances back at you and gives a cocky half grin.
“O’course I promise love.”
You hesitate for a second, but are spurred to action when red webbing nearly catches you.
Hobie turns back around, deadly serious as he does his best to stall and protect you.
You’re mostly in the portal and you turn to Hobie.
“Come on Hobie, let’s go!” Desperation bleeds through your voice.
He shoots another volley of webs, and has successfully pinned most of the other Spiders that were after them down.
He turns and runs, and you breathe a sigh of relief. Part of you thought he was going to be a hero and stay behind. You should have known better.
Hobie is an arms length away from the portal when he glitches.
You gasp, fear stabbing at your heart as he drops to his knees, panting. He gets up on one knee and any hope you had turns into dread. A lasso of red webbing cinches itself around Hobie and tugs him backwards.
Hobie is on the floor and glitches again. The last thing you see of him is his face screwed up in pain. You flick your eyes up toward Miguel O’Hara, who now towers over Hobie. There’s a fire in his eyes as a violent “NO!” rips from his throat.
The portal closes with you in it.
You’re in your apartment, not registering the tears steadily rolling down your cheeks.
“You promised…”
