DEVELOPMENT OF THAILAND AS A HOME OF BLOCKCHAIN

Cryptocurrency, on the very first stake gives reference as, a digital currency based on Cryptographic system. Here again Cryptography stands for, the discipline concerned with communication security (eg, confidentiality of messages, integrity of messages, sender authentication, non-repudiation of messages, and many other related issues), regardless of the used medium such as pencil and paper or computers.

As in one place United States regulators are still trying to evaluate how to think about Cryptocurrencies, Thailand’s government is already scripting out its own central bank digital currency.

Taken as a one example, that how Thailand has emerged as one the most absorbing cryptocurrency and blockchain countries in Southeast Asia in 2018.

Since the early dates of the year, the Thai government has become increasingly told boldly and welcomed the Cryptocurrency projects and its exchanges. Thus, within few months, Thai regulators have made notable progress, from setting up cryptocurrency company licenses to permitting exchanges and ICOs. More importantly, the country has grabbed attention of many foreign companies by their provision of clear and explicit guidelines for foreign blockchain companies to operate. It’s a pattern that we are seeing among the whole Southeast Asia, and one that blockchain and cryptocurrency startup founders should take a note as they thinking about the global expansion.

Southeast Asia regulators are keen to understand cryptocurrency and blockchain

To get through how a small country like Thailand can make it’s pace in the blockchain space, it’s decisive to understand the strategy of regulators and the local companies nearby. Unlike their U.S. peers, most of the Asian blockchain companies and exchanges work with the local companies and regulators right from the very beginning, even  they are first developing their own products and expanding their communities. These teams basically use formal and informal relationships to get a buy-in from their respective local governments in order to bolster their credibility. This pattern is particularly true for Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand.

However, it isn’t just about these startups that they are trying to tie knots with the government officials – as relationships work in both directions. As an example, Pundi X, which is a technological company which builds out a blockchain-based point of sale solution in Southeast Asia and globally. Its CEO, Zac Cheah, is Malaysian and a local to the Southeast Asia region, and discussed with me how regulators are getting engaged with the startup community:

·        “I think government is morphing and changing and many governments that we know are not you know exactly the ones that we say that are lagging behind. They, in fact, have like people, young or not so young people, that are very knowledgeable about what is happening right now. So in fact sometimes when we go to core blockchain meetups, we actually see some very core people from the regulatory side […] they know that this will change the landscape a lot so I think they are trying to think through the, if I may, the ‘tokenomics’ of how they want to get involved.”

No longer Thaied up in regulation

Such kinds of regulatory engagements are highly encouraging signs for the region and particularly for Thailand, where regulators have been working quickly to provide a legal path for blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies. Ideologically, it will make other young and impulsive business Eagers superlative enough to learn, grab and work on their own such startups. Clearing a path, here that is, engaging up with the locals will be really profitable.

In June, Thailand’s government legalized seven cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin cash, Ethereum classic, Litecoin, Ripple, and Stellar). It also permitted a limited number of cryptocurrency exchanges and broker-dealers to apply for operating licenses. And again, in July, the Thailand SEC permitted additional digital token issuers to file for applications. Again, in the very same month, the securities regulator categorized ICOs into three types: investment tokens, utility tokens, and cryptocurrency. As should be clear from this timeline, the speed at which these regulators execute decisions has surpassed that of most countries in the West as well as the rest of Asia.

Once it starts it’s expand, the fire run and competition will make a good rat race hence proving many South Asian countries to hook up forward, to and forth the Westerns as well.

Most probably in Thailand the reason of such speedy growth is that, regulators have shown an openness to knowledge exchange. For example, recently the Thailand SEC held a dialogue with Vitalik Buterin and the OmiseGo team on the status of exchanges and Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs). For Thailand, having a local, knowledgeable, and well-established team such as Omise is very helpful to build a clear regulatory environment for companies. Communication skills are necessary in each and every stake and path of every developing idea.
