I think my secret new method for finishing wips is to choose a few wips you really like to make playlists about. When you want to write, choose one of your wip playlists (which ever one you're vibing with that day) and tell yourself you have to work on that wip while listening to its playlist. That way you've made a decision about what to do and don't have all that jumping back and forth that happens sometimes when writing.

You got it! Here's a snippet of what I got written in the Captain Swan Romeo & Juliet & Boybands AU

 Three hours passed in a manner of seconds. Instead of following through on their plans to watch a movie, they'd spent the whole time just talking and smiling and enjoying each other's presence. Killian wasn't sure which he enjoyed more: hearing Emma tell stories about her life, or the look on her face as she listened to him tell stories of his own. Either way, the time passed all too quickly.

and then here's a snippet out of the August and Belle wip, which is set in the same AU, but tells Belle's side of the story.

 Most of the Buggies' music left much to be desired, in terms of composition. She didn't mind; she was mostly just listening for the lyrics, and those lyrics were a thing of beauty. For everything they lacked in ability and charm, they more than made up for in their keyboard-playing lyricist, August Booth. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't listening for the piano track in most of their songs, that she wasn't whittling down the list of his lyrics that she'd want a tattoo of, or that she didn't consider him attractive, or, at least, closer to her type than most musicians were.

5. What fic surprised you with how much interaction it got this past year?

I know I mentioned Wishing it Wasn't when Hazel asked, but I also want to give honorable mention to This is (Kinda) The Way. I'd hoped it would do well, but was blown away by not only the lovely comments and kudos on ao3, but also all the interaction it got on tumblr. It was at the top of the sabezra and ezrabine tags for a couple days (and if you've blocked as many tags as I have you'd've seen it at the top of the sabine wren tag too,) which was such a huge encouragement to me as I recovered from my unfortunate accident 😅

7. Share a line/paragraph/snippet that you were especially proud of from a work this year!

I'm gonna go with this section from As The Sun Rose and Seasons Changed, because I waited almost a decade to see these two idiots from The Shuttle get engaged and am very glad to have been the one to do it:

 "There's a reason I brought you out here today, Betty," he smiled, "you've always been clever, so I know you know what I'm going to ask you, but I'm going to ask it anyways, and it's going to be the most terrifying moment of my life."  "You've no reason to be afraid, James." She rarely called him by his first name rather than his title, but now it felt proper to do so.  "You've no idea what I fear to lose, Miss Vanderpoel," he said, "I know of your love for Dunstanwolde, and your disdain for its condition– and of my love for it as well. If all I were offering was my land and my title, to watch from the sides as you touch all around me with your life, I'd give even that. But what I ask is something deeper. I do not ask you to love a sullied name or a crumbled ruin. I ask you to love the man who holds nothing besides them," and here he took her hand and said, "I'm asking you to love me."  Still holding her hand, he knelt before her, one knee supporting him on the damp earth his ancestors had killed for and died on. Out of his pocket he pulled a ring, and held it before her.  "Bettina Vanderpoel," he asked, "will you marry me?"  He wasn't the first man who'd proposed to her– but somehow she'd hoped all along that he would be the last.

8. What's your favorite work you posted this past year?

if you think I'm gonna say the same thing I told Hazel and Iris, you are dead wrong.

Even though it's not perfect by any stretch of the word, I'm gonna say How We Rewrote the Stars. I intended it to just be a oneshot and posted it as such for sabezra week, but added more chapters after the fact. It was my first time posting an uncompleted work, which has always worried me because what if I wanted to change something? What if I messed something up in the first chapter? However, I took a leap of faith {which, fun fact, is the name I would've posted it under had I left it as a oneshot} and tried it out like that, and I'm proud of that!

13. What fic are you most excited to post in the upcoming year?

I'm very much hoping to finish the Gamergirl Sabezra AU by the end of the year, and can't wait to share it with you guys. I'm also working on a Captain Swan fic I've lovingly nicknamed the "romeo & juliet & boybands au." I haven't posted anything for Captain Swan since June, and that's the CS fic I have the most motivation to write, so it'll be lovely to post for such a lovely fandom again!

2. How many fics did you post this past year?

27! I have a total of 42 posted works, so that's over half of them from 2023 alone!

5. What fic surprised you with how much interaction it got this past year?

Wishing It Wasn't. I said "oh, wouldn't it be silly if Killian and Emma had to fake date in season 2?" and would've let the idea rot in my wip folder, but when I suggested it to the rest of the fandom, they encouraged me to finish it! it currently has roughly twice as many hits/kudos/bookmarks/subscriptions as the runner-ups in those categories, which for the most part have twice as many as my average works, so......

8. What's your favorite work you posted this past year?

I'm kicking myself in the foot for writing this question, because choosing a favorite work is like choosing a favorite child. I think I'll have to say one of my favorites is As the Sun Rose and Seasons Changed. I've spent almost a decade wondering if anyone had written that much needed missing moment from The Shuttle, and took it as a great honor to take up that mantle. I had a lot of fun capturing Burnett's writing style, as well as bringing her characters to life again.

11. Do you have playlists for any of your fics/wips?

Indeed I do! I have some general playlists for Captain Swan, Cygnet Scholar, and Sabezra that I'll listen to while I'm writing, and I have some playlists for three of my wips as well:

I'm gonna give a different answer than I gave last time but the sentiment still remains that it is by the grace of God that I do what I do. One thing I do love about the writing gifts he's given me is that he's also given me an amazing readerbase that constantly encourages me! That doesn't sound like a compliment to myself, but I know they wouldn't all be sticking around if I wasn't doing something right, right?

😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?

There was a point while writing Wishing it Wasn't where I got a little passive aggressive and decided to be mean to my readers, I'll admit. The tags and trigger warnings mentioned gun violence, and I was hoping to make it look like a relatively unliked character might get shot, only to shoot my main character instead and then leave it at a cliffhanger until the next week. (don't worry, he lived!) Idk if any of my readers were caught unawares, but I certainly had fun with it!

you got it, dude! here's a section from one currently titled "Captain Swan Romeo and Juliet and Boybands AU," which is pretty much exactly what it says on the label.

 "You do realize you have my phone number, right?" Emma asked, "You could've just texted me."  "Now, now," Killian shook his head, "whatever happened to romance?"  "Forbidden romance," Emma shook her head, "if anyone catches me with you…."  "I know," Killian said, and though she saw in his face the same worry, she also saw a refuge, and a sanctuary, "But I haven't been able to stop thinking about you since last night," he took her hands in both of his and pulled them close to his chest, pulling her closer as well, "and even a single moment with you is worth the risk."
