Google Cloud C4D machine series Compute with AMD Turin

Google Titanium hardware gives the C4D machine series excellent, reliable, and consistent performance with 5th-generation AMD EPYC (Turin) CPUs.
Google Cloud offers Confidential Compute on AMD N2D, C2D, and C3D machines worldwide. The general-purpose C4D machine series' confidential virtual machines (VMs) with AMD Secure Encrypted Virtualisation (AMD SEV) technology are in preview today and will soon be released.
C4D virtual machines use Titanium and fifth-generation AMD EPYC Turin processors. C4D outperforms C3D by 30% on the anticipated SPECrate2017_int_base benchmark, growing performance with fewer resources and maximising expenditures.
C4D supports web, app, and game servers, AI inference, web serving, video streaming, analytics, and relational and in-memory databases.
C4D can execute 38% more Memorystore for Redis operations and 56% more Cloud SQL for MySQL queries than C3D due to its higher core frequency (up to 4.1 GHz) and improved IPC.
With C4D, AMD EPYC Turin may boost web-serving throughput per vCPU by 80% and enhance branch prediction and L3-cache efficiency.
Features of C4D machines
The C4D machine series has these traits:

Supports 384 virtual CPUs and 3,024 GB DDR5.
Local Titanium SSDs up to 12,000 GiB are supported.
Preconfigured machines with 2–384 virtual central chips are available.
Future bookings, Spot VMs, and on-demand consumption are supported.
Allows conventional network setup with 100 Gbps bandwidth.
Supports Tier 1 VM networking at 200 Gbps.
For HyperDisk volumes only.
Confidential Virtual Machine AMD SEV support Flexible, resource-based committed use discounts
Supports compact and distributed placement policies.
C4D machine series types
Regular, high-cpu, and high-mem C4D virtual machines have predefined configurations from 2 to 384 vCPUs and up to 3,024 GB of memory.
Build your instance with the C4D machine type -lssd option to use Titanium SSD. Selecting this machine type creates a Titanium SSD-partitioned instance of the required size. Different Titanium SSD volumes cannot be joined.
Custom machines are incompatible with C4D.
Supported C4D VM disc types
It supports only NVMe disc interface and Hyperdisk block storage:
Hyperdisk-steady
Hyperdisk Extreme
Certain system types automatically receive local titanium SSD with the -lssd option.
Persistent Disc is incompatible with C4D.
Disc and capacity limits
A virtual machine (VM) can use a variety of hyperdisks, but their total disc capacity (in TiB) cannot exceed:
For systems under 32 vCPUs, all hyperdisks have 257 TiB.
Different computers with 32 vCPUs or 512 TiB for the hyperdisk
Networking C4D machines
Network interfaces for C4D virtual machines must be gVNIC. C4D can handle 100 Gbps for regular networking and 200 Gbps for per-VM Tier_1 networking.
Make sure your operating system image supports the gVNIC driver before switching to C4D or starting instances. Choose an OS image with “Tier_1 Networking” and “200 Gbps network bandwidth” on the Networking features tab of the OS information table for optimum C4D performance. Although the guest OS lists gve driver version as 1.0.0, these images upgrade the gVNIC driver. If your C4D instance runs an operating system with an outdated gVNIC driver, it may have greater latency or less network bandwidth than it should.
Custom OS images for the C4D machine series allow manual installation of the newest gVNIC driver. C4D instances should use gVNIC driver v1.3.0 or later. Google recommends using the latest gVNIC driver for new features and bug fixes.

Is this controller compatible with microsoft P.C. games and with its bluetooth? Has anyone tried it?         
Answer:                                                                                                         
 I have had one for about 3 weeks now and when visiting my parents for a few days I tried it out on my Windows 10 gaming PC and was surprised to discover that it paired right up and connected with the built in Intel AC WiFi/Bluetooth 4.1 card that came with my MSI mini ITX mother board.  The controller can be set up and calibrated by using the built in Windows game controller tool.  Most PC games that are set up for using a game controller allow you to customize the mapping of your controller in the game settings.
Since first posting this answer back in January I have permanently abandoned using Windows 10 Pro as my OS because of Microsuck's policy of incessantly data mining you.  I have a fast Internet connection, some have faster downloads but most do not have my upload speed.  My plan is 75mbits down and 75mbits uip and in spite of having the settings turned off in Windows 10 to allow their per to per updating of Windows they were doing it any way.  I began noticing that my HD activity light was constantly on, when doing a Internet speed check MS had capped my 75mbits up speed to only 20mbits/sec up with the MS CROOKS stealing the balance of what I was paying for and in doing so also dramatically lowing the life expectancy of my expensive SSD!  After looking for malware and finding nothing in desperation I did a complete restore of Windows 10 Pro.  This process reformatted my HD and installed the latest version of Windows 10, after this the only software I installed was the Firefox web browser and conducted a speed check.  I noticed a slight change, my HD light was on even more and my up speed was now capped at 19mbits/sec so I came to the realization that the only malware on my PC was my OS choice, Windows 10, I now am using Linux Mint 18 and have done so since April, 2017 and my PS 4 controller works as good on Linux as it does with Windows.  I am an avid gamer and currently 1/3rd of my Steam library of games now runs natively on Linux for the rest this is what I now do.  I sort of lied about not using Windows 10, I do not use it for anything other than playing my large collection of Windows only games, however I do not run Window 10 natively.  I now run Windows 10 Pro in a KVM virtual machine with hardware pass through that runs on top of Linux.  Due to my PC hardware I am able to pass my PCIe ports as well as USB 3 ports directly to the VM and the now guest OS Windows 10.  What this means is that when running the VM Windows 10 has direct access to my expensive GPU and is running the Windows Nvidia driver for it.  Doing this I am only experiencing a very slight drop in performance but running Windows in a sand boxed VM is more preferable as I can control who it is talking with on the Internet while still being able to play multi-player games..

All that’s left is to boot it up and log in! How to Install Linux (Ubuntu Server 18.04) on a Mac with VMware Fusion Introduction. VMware Fusion. is a desktop virtualization program that lets you run multiple different operating systems. Before we begin, you should have VMware Fusion. installed on your Mac and have downloaded.
When you create a Linux virtual machine, you can use the Fusion Linux Easy Install feature to install the Linux operating system you provide and to install VMware Tools in your virtual machine.
Unless you specify a file location for a virtual machine when you create it, Fusion saves the virtual machine package to a default location, which can vary. See Default File Location of a Virtual Machine.
You must obtain the operating system installation image. Fusion does not include any operating systems to install in virtual machines that you create.

Procedure
Select File > New.
A dialog box appears with the Select the Installation Method panel showing.
Insert the operating system installation CD into your Mac.
Fusion detects it and asks for confirmation that it is the operating system to install.
If it is the correct operating system, ensure that Install this operating system is selected and click Continue to go to the Linux Easy Install panel.
In the Linux Easy Install dialog box, select the Use Easy Install option, provide the appropriate information, and click Continue.
Enter your Display Name, Account Name, and Password.
Select Make your home folder accessible to the virtual machine to have Linux Easy Install configure your home folder as a shared folder, so you can share files between the virtual machine and your Mac.
(Optional) If you selected to make your home folder accessible, select either Read only or Read & Write for your virtual machine.
In the Finish panel, you can use default settings or customize the settings before powering on the virtual machine to start the operating system installation.
OptionActionTo create the virtual machine according to the specifications listed in the Finish panel
Click Finish.
Indicate the location to save the virtual machine to or accept the default, such as the your home directory/Virtual Machines folder.
(Optional) To share the virtual machine with other users on the Mac host, save the virtual machine to the Shared folder and select the Share this virtual machine with other users on this Mac check box. Deselect the check box to save to the Shared folder but not share the virtual machine with other users on the Mac host. See Creating a Shared Virtual Machine in Fusion.
To change disk size or other standard settings of the virtual machine
Click Customize Settings.
Save the new virtual machine.
Make changes to the virtual machine’s disk size, processor usage, removable devices, and other configurations on the Settings window.
Fusion starts the new virtual machine, installs the operating system, and installs VMware Tools.

You can install Mac OS X, OS X, or macOS in a virtual machine. Fusion creates the virtual machine, opens the operating system installation assistant, and installs VMware Tools. VMware Tools loads the drivers required to optimize a virtual machine's performance.
Mac OS X, OS X, or macOS virtual machines that you create in Fusion can run on any Apple-branded hardware that uses Intel processors. The Apple licensing agreement defines the situations when it is permissible to virtualize Mac OS X, OS X, or macOS. Fusion does not change these terms or enable macOS on non-Apple hardware. You cannot use a Mac OS X, OS X, or macOS virtual machine in another VMware product, such as Workstation Pro.
Fusion supports the following Mac server and client versions for the guest operating system:

Managing VMware vSphere Virtual Machines with Ansible
I was tasked with extraordinary daunting task of provisioning a test environment on vSphere. I knew that the install was going to fail on me multiple times and I was in dire need of a few things:
Start over from inception - basically a blank sheet of paper
Create checkpoints and be able to revert to those checkpoints fairly easily
Do a ton of customization in the guest OS
The Anti-Pattern
I’ve been enslaved with vSphere in previous jobs. It’s a handy platform for various things. I was probably the first customer to run ESX on NetApp NFS fifteen years ago. I can vividly remember that already back then I was incredibly tired of “right clicking” in vCenter and I wrote extensive automation with the Perl bindings and SDKs that were available at the time. I get a rash if I have to do something manually in vCenter and I see it as nothing but an API endpoint. Manual work in vCenter is the worst TOIL and the anti-pattern of modern infrastructure management.

Hello Ansible
I manage my own environment, which is KVM based, entirely with Ansible. Sure, it’s statically assigned virtual machines but surprisingly, it works just great as I’m just deploying clusters where HA is dealt with elsewhere. When this project that I’m working on came up, I frantically started to map out everything I needed to do in the Ansible docs. Not too surprisingly, Ansible makes everything a breeze. You’ll find the VMware vSphere integration in the “Cloud Modules” section.
Inception
I needed to start with something. That includes some right-clicking in vCenter. I uploaded this vmdk file into one the datastores and manually configured a Virtual Machine template with the uploaded vmdk file. This is I could bear with as I only had to do it once. Surprisingly, I could not find a CentOS 7 OVA/OVF file that could deploy from (CentOS was requirement for the project, I’m an Ubuntu-first type of guy and they have plenty of images readily available).
Once you have that Virtual Machine template baked. Step away from vCenter, logout, close tab. Don’t look back (remember the name of the template!)
I’ve stashed the directory tree on GitHub. The Ansible pattern I prefer is that you use a ansible.cfg local to what you’re doing, playbooks to carry out your tasks and apply roles as necessary. I’m not going through the minutia of getting Ansible installed and all that jazz. The VMware modules have numerous Python dependences and they will tell you what is missing, simply pip install <whatever is complaining> to get rolling.
Going forward, let's assume:

There are some variables that needs to be customized and tailored to any specific environment. The file that needs editing is host_vars/localhost that needs to be copied from host_vars/localhost-dist. Mine looks similar to this:

Tailor your config and let’s move on.
Note: The network I’m sitting on is providing DHCP services with permanent leases and automatic DNS registration, I don’t have to deal with IP addressing. If static IP addressing is required, feel free to modify to your liking but I wouldn’t even know where to begin as the vmdk image I’m using as a starter is non-customizable.
Deploy Virtual Machines
First things first, provision the virtual machines. I intentionally didn’t want to screw around with VM snapshots to clone from. Full copies of each VM is being performed. I’m running this on the most efficient VMware storage array in the biz so I don’t really have to care that much about space.
Let’s deploy!

In this phase we have machines deployed. They’re not very useful yet as I want to add my current SSH key from the machine I’m managing the environment from. Copy roles/prepare/files/authorized_keys-dist to roles/prepare/files/authorized_keys:

Managing Virtual Machines
The bleak inventory file what we have created should now be usable. Let’s ping our machine farm:

As a good Linux citizen you always want to update to all the latest packages. I provided a crude package_update.yaml file for your convenience. It will also reboot the VMs once completed.
Important: The default password for the root user is still what that template shipped with. If you intend to use this for anything but a sandbox exercise, consider changing that root password.
Snapshot and Restore Virtual Machines
Now to the fun part. I’ve redacted a lot of the content I created for this project for many reasons, but it involved making customizations and installing proprietary software. In the various stages I wanted to create snapshots as some of these steps were not only lengthy, they were one-way streets. Creating a snapshot of the environment was indeed very handy.
To create a VM snapshot for the machines group:

The upgraded gVNIC driver is included in fully supported images, even if the guest OS displays the gve driver version as 1.0.0. Your C4A virtual machine may not be able to reach the maximum network bandwidth for C4A VMs if it is running an operating system with limited support, which includes an outdated version of the gVNIC driver.
The latest gVNIC driver can be manually installed if you use a custom OS image with the C4A machine series. It is advised to use the gVNIC driver version v1.3.0 or later while working with C4A virtual machines.
