This picture was taken in a children's play area would you believe. Perfect spot for an Instagram worthy snap. It was right in the centre of the busy old town of Paphos. The place to be with vibrant culture an live music. Typical of me to be forever looking for a good backdrop with my hobby photographer eye and then trying to direct someone to take a picture haha. My mum has a pretty good eye of her own though. There has been some funding in 2017 to renovate and restore the mostly neoclassical 1920s buildings back to their glory. It is both beautiful and interesting to walk around. There are many religious sites including an ottoman baths and a Mosque. There are also 4 museums. Lots of street art painting on the walls by @artbymilo and some beautiful bronze sculptures by #yiotaioannidouart There's a living wall, a market, boutiques, galleries and many shops to buy traditional handmade wares. We were actually looking for a certain restaurant that my mum had been to a few years back but couldn't find it so we stopped and asked the owner of the Carob produce shop if she knew somewhere. She walked us, for about a 5 minute walk, to @antigomezedopolio and we were so glad she did! Tiny little shop front with the chairs and tables out in the street and it was like tapas style of ordering but with Cyprus cuisine. I cannot recommend it enough! It was just beautiful. Everything about it and very good value too. They had an acoustic guitarist singing without amplification, which was perfect to add to the atmosphere without being overbearing. We ordered between the three of us and Raphael... stuffed peppers, stuffed courgette flowers, salad, aubergine dip, houmous, lamb chop, Cyprus sausage, lemon beef with onion, lemon pork and seafood risotto and chips. Everything was homemade, from scratch and the chips were something else!!! We got fruit and coffee at the end and I have huge compliments to the chef for the best meal I've had in a long time! Perfect for mum's last night and what a lucky find! #eatingoutincyprus #thingstodoincyprus #foodblog #foodie #restaurantsincyprus #eatingout #Cyprusblogger #cyprusblog #lovecyprus #lifeincyprus #familytime (at Pafos, the Old Town) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSu5SEks7fi/?utm_medium=tumblr

🌍 Why to choose #Paphos for your next holiday 🌞? It’s no surprise that the coastal city of Paphos is one of the most popular places to visit on a holiday to Cyprus 🇨🇾. The birthplace of Aphrodite and a gentle hustle and bustle that can be sped up or slowed down, this thriving destination is a blissful mixture of Blue Flag beaches, delectable restaurants, exciting attractions and historical sites with the prestigious UNESCO stamp of approval, making it teasingly diverse and suitable for travelers of every kind. 🌍
🌟 Prices from £300pp* (All Inclusive options from £460pp). Prices will vary according to your details and preferences
Any destinations in #Europe and beyond are available. Please ask
👉 1. Blue Lagoon: Described as the most beautiful place on Cyprus 🇨🇾, the Blue Lagoon is arguably the best and most unforgettable attraction. The isolated lagoon is tucked into the rugged coastline of Akamas National Park, on a peninsula between Paphos and Latchi therefore easily accessible by boat from either destination. The boat drops the anchor in the lagoon so visitors can swim in the warmest, clearest, most azure waters they’ve ever seen.
👉 2. Tombs of the Kings: Is a remarkable world-famous attraction that simply can’t be missed on a holiday to Paphos. This UNESCO World Heritage Site overlooks the sea and dates back to the era of Alexander the Great and was used for burials of aristocrats and statesmen.
👉 3. Kato Paphos Archaeological Park: Another UNESCO World Heritage Site in Paphos that will stand strong in your holiday memories is the Kato Paphos Archaeological Park. Here is where you can admire sites and monuments from 4 BC through to the Middle Ages and the Roman period, evident from the intricate mosaic floors of the Roman villas which depict various scenes from Greek mythology. The seaside location is the icing on the cake, as well as the fields of wild flowers that are perfect for stopping for a picnic under the sunshine.
👉 4. Baths of Aphrodite: Although there are plenty of places to take a scenic stroll in Paphos, nothing quite compares to the Baths of Aphrodite. Engulfed by a majestic history and fascinating legend, this shady pool on the Akamas Peninsular just outside of Paphos is said to be the location where the Goddess of Love went to bathe and is rumoured to make a woman grow younger. The pool is covered from the sunshine by an ancient fig tree while the verdant foliage and twisted branches give the whole area a mythical feel that’s shrouded in magic and complemented perfectly by the gentle sounds of the surrounding wildlife.
👉 5. EDRO III shipwreck: Those with a passion for photography can’t miss out on the EDRO III Shipwreck. Located directly on the shore just a few miles from Peyia and the Sea Caves, this 83-metre-long cargo ship looks like an abandoned garden on first glance but once you get up close and personal, you’ll be face to face with a fascinating piece of recent history.
👉 6. Tsangarides Winery: The gorgeous Paphos countryside lends itself exceptionally well for verdant vineyards, not to mention that the Cypriot wine industry dates back nearly 5,000 years. The award-winning Tsangarides Winery is one of the biggest and most key wineries in Paphos, coupling Cypriot traditions with a youthful energy to produce red, white, rosé and organic wines that are truly distinctive and full of body and character.
👉 7. Paphos Aphrodite Water Park: For both the very young and the young at heart! Paphos Aphrodite Water Park is the perfect family day out and the biggest water park in the region, so boredom certainly isn’t on the agenda. Think high-speed water slides, a wave surge pool, a lazy river that stretches as far as the eye can see, a splash area for kids, plenty of swimming areas and so much more. Thrill seekers will adore the likes of Kamikaze, Gravity and Aqua Infinity which provide an adrenaline rush like no other.
👉 8. Troodos Mountains: Are a sight to behold. Set within the stunning 35-square-mile Troodos National Park and considered the beating green heart of Cyprus, these lush valleys, spectacular vineyards and verdant forests are worth every second of the 90-minute travel time from the centre of Paphos. The mountains themselves are the largest range on the island, dominated by the 6,400-foot-high Mount Olympus which is four times higher than Ben Nevis. Expect criss-crossing hiking and walking trails that vary in terrain but also plenty of cycling routes for mountain bikers, perfect for admiring the rivers and waterfalls that are scattered throughout the range on the way to the summit of Mount Olympus.
👉 9. Paphos Old Town: Everywhere you turn in the Paphos’ city centre you’ll find an abundance of historic charm that will send tingles down your spine. In 2017, the Old Town received funding to restore its public spaces and historic buildings but its authentic charisma still stands – expect to still find the maze of winding streets, quaint boutiques and family-run restaurants where dining al fresco for a spot of people watching is a must. Uniquely, the town has two separate geographical locations that were developed in different periods of time; Kato Paphos and Pano Paphos.
👉 10. Coral Bay: A beach day in Cyprus is a given but there’s nothing quite like whiling away the hours at Coral Bay on a holiday in Paphos. This Instagram-worthy Blue Flag Beach is famed for its soft white sands and crystal-clear waters, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike.

Europe’s Biggest Party
Yuuri Katsuki/Victor Nikiforov
2,351 words
AO3 link
Victor loves Eurovision and no one can convince me otherwise. Dedicated to @clairles who I’ve spent most of the past week screaming about Eurovision with.
(I rewatched practically all of the final for this, send help)
13 May, 21:45
Victor renamed the chat Europe’s Biggest Party
Victor added Yuuri Katsuki, Yuri Plisestsky, Emil Nekola, Christophe Giacometti, Michele Crispino and Sara Crispino
Victor: IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN
Yuuri: ...what is it?
Victor: IT’S EUROVISION
Yuuri: oh
Yuuri: that’s the singing competition right?
Victor: Yes! I know we’re not all partying together but we can still scream over messages
Christophe: Russia aren't even competing this year though?
Victor: Yes I am aware, we're still going to watch it though because it's Eurovision and we must
Victor: And stfu Chris, Switzerland didn’t get past the semis with your entrant who looked like she’d stolen the dress from Beauty and the Beast
Emil: Czech Republic didn’t get to the finals either *sobs*
Michele: Italy did!
Victor: Italy pays to be there.
Yuuri: I’m confused?
Victor: Italy is part of the “Big 5”, which is the five counties (Germany, Spain, France, Italy and the UK) that make the biggest financial contributions to the European Broadcasting Union. They, along with the host nation, automatically get into the final
Yuuri: Oh I see!
Yuri added Otabek Altin
Victor: what’s he doing here Kazakhstan wasn’t invited
Yuri: Japan wasn’t either yet Katsudon is here
Yuri: Anyway he’s here watching it with me so I thought I might as well add him

Victor: a good choice
Otabek: I like the stage with how they’re making it look like a galaxy
Christophe: drinking game for tonight: take a shot every time you see a piece of white clothing on stage
Emil: don’t
Emil: if you saw the semis you’ll know that it looks like a bridal boutique at Eurovision this year and that will end with alcohol poisoning lmao
Christophe: YUURI YOU’RE IN RIGHT?
Yuuri: …no? I want to enjoy my first experience of Eurovision sober
Christophe: spoil sport
Christophe: being drunk just makes it more fun, just saying
Otabek: this song is very repetitive
Yuri: yeah well, welcome to Eurovision
//for Poland, add 02//
Emil: A wild violin appears
Victor: Did someone leave the door open? It looks there’s a draft on stage with her hair blowing like that
Christophe: *pours a shot*
Yuri: what’s going on with her dress I’m so confused
Victor: me too
//for Belarus, add 03//
Christophe: oh wow I’m don’t even know how many shots I’ve got to do for this one

Victor: I think I like it though
Yuri: I don’t
Yuri: MAKE IT STOP

Victor: I mean you’re not wrong haha
//for Belgium, add 23//
Christophe: I think it reminds me of something but I don’t know what
Otabek: the beginning sounds a bit bastille-like? Maybe? Idk
Sara: I love the flowers on her dress

Victor: that’s not a bad thing! They’ve never won it
Otabek: Bulgaria is doing well too
Yuri: they’re still miles behind Portugal though
Victor: OMG A DOGGO
Yuuri: it’s not as cute as makkachin though
Victor: ♥‿♥ ♥‿♥
Victor: well of course Cyprus were going to give their 12 points to Greece that wasn’t a surprise
Yuri: oh my god this is so tense
Yuri: even though unless something shocking happens in the popular vote it looks like Portugal is going to win
Victor: the popular vote will be even tenser
Emil: well here we go
Christophe: Portugal has won the jury vote but idk Bulgaria might just pull it out the bag in the popular vote
Yuuri: this is worse than waiting for your score after skating
Christophe: lmao true
Victor: okay down to final four
Otabek: COME ON BULGARIA
Otabek: …no
Otabek: apparently not
Victor: YESSSS!!! SALVADOR!!!!
Christophe: I demand a recount
Emil: I mean, I’m not that salty about him winning? 53 years in the contest and this is the first time they’ve won it, there’s hope for us all
Victor: true
Victor: I like that he won HOWEVER what’s this speech did he just drag the rest of the competition I think he’s in the wrong place for a speech like that
Victor: this is Eurovision not the last night of the proms
Sara: he’s brought his sister onto the stage, I cry
Christophe: okay this is sweet
Victor: well, there we go, over for another year
Victor: did everyone enjoy it? Especially those of you who were watching it for the first time?
Otabek: I loved it
Yuuri: me too! We should throw a Eurovision party next year and invite everyone! Is that a thing?
Victor: YES
Victor: YES THAT’S A THING
Victor: I’M GOING TO START PLANNING NOW
Christophe: It’s going in my diary now I do hope you realise this
Victor: of course I do! SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR! #LISBON2018

New Post has been published on https://vacationsoup.com/is-this-wine-as-unusual-as-its-name/
Is This Wine As Unusual As Its Name
Is This Wine As Unusual As Its Name?
Be honest, did you ever hear of Maratheftiko before? I'm guessing that if you have heard the name, you have either visited Cyprus or you are a Greek or Greek Cypriot. For the rest of us the first time we will encounter the name is when picking up a bottle of wine with this grape variety mentioned on the label.
Maratheftiko is an ancient grape variety indigenous to the sunshine island of Cyprus.
This grape is grown in limited quantities around the island but mostly in the Pitsilia region. This is a mountainous area of rocky land on very steep slopes, used mainly for grazing goats and sheep and for producing small amounts of cereals, wine and our grapes.
At our local supermarket, Alpha Mega in Skarinou, they were offering bottles of Ayios Elias, a Shiraz - Maratheftiko blend. I had been on the look out for a new wine to taste test and the packaging suggested an interesting product not unlike one of our favourites, Ayios Andronicos from the Vasillikon winery.
Bottled in a tall, dark green bottle, this red wine has a modern, serrated edge designed label and is sealed with a traditional cork beneath a plastic and metal neck seal.  These points suggest an interesting product.
There is a very small indication on the rear label stating that the wine contains sulphites.
Close inspection of the label reveals that Ayios Elias comes from Chrysorroyiatissa Monastery located in the Paphos District of Cyprus.
If, like me, you are keen to know more about where this wine is made, read on.
Chrysoroyiatissa (Greek: Χρυσορρογιάτισσα) is a monastery dedicated to Our Lady of the Golden Pomegranate located about 40 kilometres north-east of Paphos, Cyprus at an altitude of around 2,700 feet. It was reportedly founded by a monk called Ignatius (Greek: Ιγνάτιος) in the 12th century. It lies 1.5 kilometres from the today village of Panayia, birthplace of the hero of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios. The present building dates to 1770.
In the 1980s, with the revival of small boutique wineries such as this one this variety was rediscovered and its cultivation is slowly on the increase again, as it offers a distinctive character to local wines.
Keo, the largest brewing business and winery on the island is part owned by the Church. Keo has been one of the companies to encourage growth of this challenging variety. Maratheftiko does not have hermaphrodite flowers like many cultivated grape varieties and requires co-planting with other varieties in order to achieve fertilisation and fruit development.
To answer the question initially posed, join me later when we uncork a bottle and give it a taste test. Will Maratheftiko make it onto our list of recommended local wines?
Footnote: We offer our guests a selection of wines to test on arrival at the villa. It seems an ideal way for those who enjoy wine to get to know varieties that they might otherwise never taste.

There is nowhere in the world more peaceful, tranquil and panoramic than the Northern Cyprus area of Dipkarpaz and the many surrounding villages graced by a constant overlord of mountains on the one side and the beautiful blue Mediterranean sea on the other.
This area is untouched by the ides of time and the village life of a vast farming and grazing community meanders by, untouched by progress. Most Islanders live off the land and its produce and are hard working and proud of their community where Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots have worked and lived together in harmony and friendship.
#gallery-0-9 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-9 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-9 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-9 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Tourism is a very important business in the area as people from all over the world travel here to explore the many historical sites and walk the hills and dales spotting a great variety of bird life, whilst others enjoy an amazing collection of wild flowers. The Karpaz is famous for its miles of golden beaches and its very friendly donkeys which are extremely popular with the tourists and provide a great centrepiece for their holiday photos.

The village people are very friendly and the small boutique hotels are a pleasure to stay in and our story now begins to unfold with the Oasis Hotel at Ayfilon watched over by a twelfth century Venetian Church and the remains of a Roman Harbour which grace The Oasis Hotel and produce an amazing sight from the restaurant when the golden setting sun slips from view behind the Roman legacy.

For the most stunning bespoke Christmas wreaths, Phillo Flowers are the perfect choice. If you’re in London, head to their Notting Hill boutique to marvel at their designs. There’s a great selection in their online store too.
Travel Tales
Now’s the time to start planning your seasonal getaways and what could be better than some Winter sunshine? You’ll find it in abundance in Tenerife, with the added bonus of beautiful flowers and delicious food. Hotel Botanico is one of our favourite hotels on the island, thanks to its Asian inspired spa and stunning gardens.
Cyprus is another great choice for Winter sun, whether for a cultural and foodie trip to Nicosia, or an agro-tourism mountain break. The people are so friendly and there’s so much to do for travellers of all ages.
We’re always seeking out hidden gems on our travels, and Museum Van Loon in Amsterdam certainly fits that description! Many of the locals haven’t heard of it, yet it’s a beautiful mansion filled with antique furniture and with an elegant garden. There’s an exhibition about the Dutch painter Ferdinand Bol, who used to live there. Stay in style at The Pulitzer, a charming collection of historic canalside townhouses.
Skiing is the perfect Winter activity and staying in a luxury chalet is the ideal way to enjoy it. Consensio Chalets are known for their exclusive properties in the French and Swiss Alps, with features such as hot tubs and swimming pools. They have teamed up with SUSHISAMBA London to offer guests a unique après-ski experience – a selection of 3 signature SUSHISAMBA cocktails with accompanying canapés. Take your pick from a powerful Kaffirinha, a citrusy Samba Sour or a fruity Seasonal Sake Spritz.
Wining and Dining
Red King Crab is a rare delicacy for its subtle taste and versatility. It’s hard to get it in London but now you can with the opening of Fancy Crab. Located in a lovely building on Wigmore Street in Marylebone, King Crab offers a range of delicious seafood and steak dishes. Their wild Red King crab is caught in the Atlantic Ocean just once a year in order to preserve stocks, then expertly prepared in the restaurant. Our friendly waiter brought a whole crab to the table and expertly talked us through all the options. Our starters of crab cakes and crab bites were bursting with flavour. For our mains, we savoured a signature Singapore Chilli Crab and Fancy King Crab Burger with potato fries and coleslaw, which were both excellent. I’d highly recommend the chocolate fondant for dessert, which comes with home made salted caramel ice cream.
Coq d’Argent has been a stalwart of the London dining scene for many years. Popular for its rooftop bar and accomplished French cuisine, it’s now launched regular weekend jazz brunches. If the launch event of Le Brunch is anything to go by, they’ll be a resounding success. We tried a variety of excellent brunch dishes whilst enjoying free-flowing Moët & Chandon champagne. A talented saxophonist played songs with a DJ backing for added ambiance. Guests can choose from delicious dishes such as poached eggs with smashed avocado and crushed hazelnuts on toast, Poitou goat’s cheese parcel with honey, moules frites and more. A fun option is to build your own benedict, from a selection of toppings including smoked salmon, mushrooms or Bayonne ham with either classic, Nori or truffle Hollandaise sauce. Desserts are equally impressive, particularly the Granny Smith apple parfait and the Tarte Tatin. Le Brunch is  £26.50 for two courses, £29.50 for three courses and you can add bottomless champagne for £38 per person. Each Winter, the rooftop terrace transforms into Lodge d’Argent, a stylish mountain themed bar in the City, and we can’t wait to revisit this year.
Caviar House & Prunier is a place that we’ve often admired whilst strolling along Piccadilly yet hadn’t visited until recently. Step away from the hustle and bustle of Mayfair into an oasis of tranquility. They also have seafood and caviar bars in Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Qatar, Spain, Turkey, the UAE and USA as well as London outlets in Harrods, Selfridges and Gatwick and Heathrow airports. As you’d imagine, the caviar here is exceptional, but they also have some outstanding seafood and champagne. We tasted a Tsarine Cuvée Premium Brut NV champagne with our Prunier caviar. Tsarine is part of the Champagne Lanson group who recently won the prestigious Sommelier Wine Award 2017 for Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year. Created as a tribute to the Czars of Russia and their interest in French culture, Tsarine has a distinctive bottle reminiscent of St Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow. This successful blend of three grape varieties, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay combines white peach, grape and citrus notes to great effect. We moved on to the Tsarine Rosé Brut NV Champagne to go our smoked salmon and oysters. It has accents of wild blackcurrant and strawberries and is perfect for parties and fine dining. The salmon itself is superb, having been smoked and prepared in Caviar Prunier’s own original Balik oven. I particularly liked the fillet Tsar Nikolaj, which is carved from the rear fillet and the most tender part of the salmon. Tsarine is available at Caviar House & Prunier as well as Ocado and other leading outlets.
Well established on the London dining scene, Cantina Laredo is a family run restaurant which specializes in traditional Mexican cooking with a contemporary twist. This light and airy restaurant in Covent Garden is popular with locals and visitors alike. Try their signature cocktails such as the Have a Little [Paloma] Faith with AquaRiva Reposado, agave nectar, grapefruit and passion fruit. The Ice Ice Baby is a tasty blend of  Casa Ambar Blanco, Cointreau, lime and mango served frozen in a cool box. We really liked the guacamole de queso azul, with avocado, creamy blue cheese, sour cream, roasted jalapeno and warm corn tortilla chips. Purists can opt for the classic version which has the advantage of being prepared at your table. I’d also recommend the entradas, which are small dishes that are ideal for sharing. Sashimi yellowtail with a jicama, cucumber and radish salad was really fresh while our main course of jumbo prawn with guajillo achiote butter was melt in your mouth delicious. I finished with a decadent chocolate brownie that a foodie friend had recommended to me. I can see why as it oozed sweet indulgence. My friend’s churros looked pretty tempting too! Cantina Laredo is definitely somewhere that I’d return too as a great dining option in Covent Garden.
Connoisseurs of fine wine, champagne and spirits have been hard pressed to find their favourites online until now. However the recent launch of Clos19 has changed all that. This luxury online lifestyle retail brand offers some truly exclusive experiences such as a visit to the Dom Pérignon atelier in Champagne, France. Founder Stephanie Watine-Arnault and her team work closely with LVMH to make the very best wine and spirits available to discerning customers worldwide. We were fortunate to attend a dinner on the art of hosting at new members club Mortimer House where they skilfully matched wines and spirits to each delicious course. The beautiful paper table decorations are by Marianne Guély paper-art table decorations and part of the bespoke festive dinner package. With Clos19’s Become The Host experience you can host a tailor-made festive dinner with private chef and sommelier in your own home.
