I love your art for the Moth in Hisui au, I wanna see Volo be mean and suddenly get very scared because he just pissed of the local moth man who is ready to yeet him off the mountain. Or just Markoth being the badass dad who makes absolute certain the kids are OK by any means. I want the awesome fluff of this au frick-

Hi, another free ticket for you but this time about Markoth because I wanna know your takes and wanna see you release them to the world 💕
i’m going to say this every time i’m asked but dadkoth supremacy. i will not elaborate but i’m right.
i’ve also said this before, but a big point of exploration for him is complex grief. he’s endured a lot. kind of obvious, i think, considering who he is, but still.
in particular, the way he responds to this grief is becoming very prickly. the original choice to do this was partially based off of how. uh. canon and the fandom tend to characterize him? but it’s evolved into something beyond that. and, again, it’d be pretty hard not to be bitter in his situation yknow. when you’ve lost as much as he has, wouldn’t you go mad too?
i have a lot planned for him but it’s also very plot relevant, so it’s all spoiler territory. i don’t know how much of it will get showcased tbh. some of it might remain background, but we’ll see. i am excited to get into it now that i’m back to writing :’D just. like. i don’t know really. i just think it’s important to explore the specific crushing guilt and grief that someone like him must go through, having endured what he has. you can only lose so many people before you lose yourself, yknow.

@flecks-of-stardust lot of interesting tags! made me want to clean up some other doodles of markoth and the seer i had laying around
random hc talk no one asked for vvvvv
just realized i never put the actual dialogue on the post, but puts it here bc why not:
Protect yourself. You are our last...
BUT YEAH bc of that ^ it always surprised me to see markoth being seer's son was a lot more popular of a hc than the reverse! not that either is better or worse, just *draws the dadkoth i want to see*
i kinda felt like markoth grew up not really knowing much about the moths, and also in the midsts of hallownest's propaganda. and he spent his life seeking a truth that he ultimately died in pursuit of. the seer sought that same truth, but far more successfully...of course, she had a lot longer to do it. she learns things he never would have imagined
i didn't talk about thistlewind at all despite that other drawing featuring them just as much as it did markoth but i did like the idea of them being the seer's other parent, whose spirit lingered unable to move on because doing so would leave seer entirely alone...but, since personally i don't think the ghosts are really. the same as the person they once were - they're an impression of a feeling the person had around the time of their death. so they can't really keep her company at all and the seer can't really talk to thistlewind for advice or anything; in fact, i don't think they even realize she's gotten old now. she'll always be the child she once was to them
thinks about the seer spending a long time wandering herself, perhaps taking up a nail herself in that time, and when she returns, she feels something that thistlewind is just happy to see her but doesn't realize how long she's been gone, and doesn't even reproach her for not tending to their grave in that time. if they had been angry, it would have at least been an emotion she'd never seen from them, and maybe a sign they were still here...
but instead they're just a reminder of her loss
well this was more about thistlewind than markoth. but its ok <3

ooc: A moth in hisui is really funny, but what if dadkoth found an injured mon? Would he help it or would he just hand it to Professor Laventon to care for?
I’d say initially, he’d more likely simply give a simple brace to a pokemons injury and give it to Laventon to further inspect. Markoth is a cautionary, reclusive character, he’s just getting used to this new world and entirely new creatures.
Though I think further along he’ll more and more start treating the pokemon himself, since he has medical knowledge from being a warrior (obviously to treat his own wounds) - but if the injury is very bad or is a sickness he’d still give it to Laventon because he’s much more familiar with pokemon biology.

Can we get some "Markoth and Xero as dads to Marmu" headcanons in those tiring times, please?
Yes, yes you can.
Little long because god do I love "Xero and Markoth adopt Marmu" so I ramble a bit again-
Markoth and Xero never met Marmu when all three were alive. Actually Xero was executed before Marmu was taken in by the White Lady.
Markoth during that time period was just... straight up not having a good time lmao-
"My husband is dead. My entire tribe is falling apart. Fuck the King, fuck the Queen, fuck all gods fuck this-"
He was aware of the moth child that was taken in by WL. Notamused.png
SO Marmu first meeting them is when they're all in the dream nail realm.
Markoth arrived as one of the first and let me tell you he was just spending the entire time grieving until Xero joined.
Marmu: Hey Mister can I sit with you?
Markoth: No
Narrator: Marmu did it anyway-
Now that little bit is out of the way, actual dads and one(1) baby headcanons~
Marmu is their little angel. Like seriously. She brings so much joy to them you can't even imagine.
Markoth will murder you if you even think about making her upset. Nevermind hurt her. Don't even test this.
Markoth usually takes a more calm approach, he usually displays affection alone. And he spoils her. That's his baby girl.
Xero is much louder about it. Whilst Markoth doesn't hesitate to gush about how much he loves his daughter Xero will just go off. He does this with every family member.
Each time Marmu goes to sleep Xero and Markoth give her a little forehead kiss. Unless the two are tired and happen to fall asleep first. Then she just snuggles in between them for maximum comfy stonks.
Whenever Marmu is near her dads she is either 1) Held 2) Pet pet or 3) holding onto one of their legs. She must be given the affection she deserves.
Xero: Is she? She's going to ram into it-
Markoth, already running: MARMU NO-
Xero is usually better with comforting children, this includes Marmu. It's not that Markoth doesn't want to - it's just he's been through a lot and he's fallen back into where his socialisation needs a lot of work again.
Marmu loves peppers. Like she'll take them over sweets any day. Xero and Markoth are a little concerned because she eats peppers with things she probably shouldn't-
So like, Marmu is a big caterpillar. That means if she was given the chance to grow she'd be a big moth. Conclusion: Modern grown Marmu is tol fluffy moths and her dads love her so much-
At some point bugs just started to believe Marmu was related to Markoth. Much to his embarrassment and Xero's amusement.
Xero doesn’t hesitate with affection, neither does Marmu. Even in public. It results in a very fluffed up Markoth - he loves them dearly but public affection will always make him flustered.
They're not strict parents. They have their concerns within reason and focus a lot on Marmu's happiness and safety. Markoth and Xero can be overprotective at times, but to cut them some slack, they've been through a lot. They're good parents.
If she's happy, they're joyous. Her smile means everything to them. Luckily she smiles a lot!
POV: You're Xero/Markoth

Can't wait for Markoth to get a weapon and annihilate some poor (alpha), defenceless (high level), pokemon.
Rei and Akari would probably have to puppy dog eyes the weapon from him.
Extremely funny image.
Though, listen, hear me out. I don’t even know where the Jubilife Security Corps even have weapons, or the Diamond and Pearl Clans - so what if the pure raw energy of just using his bare hands instead.
Mild blood ahead!

Ok djskdjskds last thing for this divergent au for tonight (maybe)
I love how unintentionally the missing trio had perfect starters for them: I chose Rowlet for Pokedessa during my first playthrough of PLA (I thought it was gonna be normal Decidueye, and honestly the fighting type fits more with Odessa) , Markoth got Cyndaquil as a deliberate choice (ghost flames like his necklace, ghost like him being ghost, hisuian typhlosions lore) and Dawn (thanks to the anime) I can only see having Piplup and water starters so naturally she got Oshawatt.
It’s perfect, good for them! Good for them!

normal tiso and barry: chaos duo
but what if, and this is a very stupid thought: vigilante tiso and barry: chaos duo, but dad mode
You say Vigilante Tiso - but how I simply write Tiso normally is also dad mode anyway, a new to the role kinda figuring out his place dad mode sure - but still. He’s trying his best with the vessels-
It is a dad mode thing but chaotic dad mode chaos duo. Yknow the dad that, when a kid asks him to throw them in the air to see how high they can go, doesn’t hesitate to say yes despite everyone else screaming-

*kickflips into the sun* YOU KNOW WHO THIS IS. "“Dance with me.”“ Marmu and Dadkoth. Best quality: her wiggles.
46. “Dance with me.”
"Dance with me!"
Markoth glanced around at Marmu with a raised brow, smiling to himself as she bounced on the spot. She seemed to be dancing on the spot, with nothing but the music in her mind guiding her steps.
"Pardon?" He chuckled a reply back, leaning his chin on his hands as his daughter spun on the spot, wiggled, and waddled forward to place all her front legs on Markoth's lap - brightly staring into his eyes.
"Dance with me!" She repeated, excitement riddled in her voice.
"Oh darling, I can't dance."
Marmu gasped in faux surprise, tugging on Markoth's cape and bouncing on the spot again, "Oh please! Pretty please with a leafy on top!" She giggled as Markoth reached a hand out to pet her head, sighing in defeat as he made to stand. Sometimes he forgot how large Marmu was.
"Fine, fine. But I won't be as good as you." He chuckled, as he watched his daughter bounce around on the spot, wiggling in utter delight.
"Of course you will papa! I've seen you dance with pap!" Whilst Markoth did fluff up a little bit in embarrassment, knowing full well his skills weren't even that good, he still smiled at Marmu's enthusiasm.
Her little legs reached up for Markoth, the moth taking the first two in his own hands - being led by Marmu as he was spun around and swaying from side to side. It was no proper dance, but it was perfect - especially when Marmu was humming her own tune and smiling widely. It took a while before Markoth took charge of the dance, pulling Marmu into a hug as he lifted her and spun her around - his daughter laughing brightly in his arms.
He placed a small kiss on her forehead, kneeling down and placing Marmu on the ground just before him, as she continued to giggle to herself.
"See? Can't dance." Markoth chuckled when Marmu softly bapped his hand, the baby shaking her head.
"Nooo! You good!"
"Oh not as good as you are."
"I can teach you!" Markoth raised a brow at that, again patting his daughters head.
"Teach me? Hmm, I suppose we could arrange that." He could only smile when Marmu snuggled against him, small bounces conveying her excitement. "You should get Xero to join us. He could definetly use a refresher." Marmu gasped softly, eyes shining.
"Teach both of you!!"

Tiso has one point on Markoth, when it comes to fighting Alphas: he has a weapon. A weapon built for blocking. It is not a very big point, but it is a point.
(And people very capable of backing him up with Pokemon.)
Also, for your interests, a possibility: Markoth does not throw hands with Kamado for exiling a child, because he is with said child. Tiso throws hands for the child he has never met. Because he seems like the kind of guy who would hear about a kid in danger and immediately throw hands. The rest of team fight god is systematically dismantling his reputation (because Emmet refuses to let kids witness murder).
Yes indulge me in the brainrot mooore
Just ugh yes such a good point - because Markoth’s weapons are entirely magic based and that was deliberately sealed off by Arceus (Kamado is quick to suspect kids nevermind a guy with weapons, so it was a safety reason) but Tiso has a physical shield which is so useful for team fight god (love that nickname for them btw lmao). Since team fight god are considerably in the wild spying on the clans and team but always missing the trio (and ingo) - they need all the little help surviving attack which shields are great for. Plus, all three are extremely good pokemon trainers (I won’t even tolerate Hop slander - he got to the semifinals and lost to the protag - he is skilled)
Also for the exile point just - imma ramble I gotta.
So I’ve been brainrotting the banishment arc, and in A Moth In Hisui Markoth gets normally exiled - but here it’s just Dawn and Odessa that were originally going to be exiled. Imma draw it but - basically Markoth earned respect rather than fear compared to these strangely extremely skilled teenagers (Dawn is the Sinnoh Champion, Odessa is the Galarian Champion) and so Kamado is highly sus of them. How can two teenagers be so skilled with this and unafraid of pokemon?
BUT
Markoth ain’t gonna fucking take that and willingly banishes himself with the two kids because ‘no fuck you, you can’t banish kids into a place you deem dangerous, even if they’re skilled, you’re willingly pushing them into a place you think will hurt them’. Whilst the Kamado boss fight is dealt with either Odessa or Dawn - Markoth gets that Dadkoth moment. I have to draw it god-
To swing it back around to Tiso, just, yes. Just yes: multiple times has Tiso been thiiis close to yeeting someone off a cliff especially with Hop and Barry being the kids closest to him to protect™️ He’s the guy who pretends he doesn’t care that much but you know he’s glaring down whatever just threatened the kids he happens to be looking after at any point. And I just like the image of him just hearing from the trio when they find each other eventually, that oh yeah Kamado banished the girls and he’s just Ò_Ó at him, whilst Emmet is internally going oh no not again- I just think Tiso should have that throw hand instinct with whoever messes with kids (i’m predictable I know)
Hell, maybe they finally find the trio after they confront Kamado, team fight god upset and mad that he just exiled Dawn and Odessa. Maybe they catch Tiso about to throw hands with Kamado and getting to be relieved that oh hey, Markoth! But also that Markoth was with these teens that got yeeted out. Idk, figuring it all out. Basically Tiso doesn’t like Kamado for a good long while dkdkdkejdkd
Team fight god employing their nicer world views to stop Tiso from throwing hands with everything (to be fair on Tiso, Hollow Knight is not a kind world, so the defense mechanism makes sense). The boys all gotta bond with each other and I just think Tiso showing that protective side is cute and endearing and fun to write. Even towards Emmet too. Tiso’s just really bad at admitting he cares.

au for the moth in hisui au: the kids get to go home with or visit dadkoth when he gets to go home
Love this djskdjskdjskds. Giratina brings local kids to visit Dadkoth. It’s trying to be good and thinks the Dadkoth will like getting a visit. Forgets to let the kids inform the adults back on Hisui about this. RIP the Hisui adults for a bit-
Learns his world is staggeringly more dangerous. Oh dear god you all have weapons. Wym you all know how to fight each other. Wym some of you have??? Wait where is Dadkoth? Wym you gotta materiali- WAIT WERE YOU NEVER ALIVE SIR?? A ghost? Actually that’s on par with all the other weird things they’ve seen at least he still gets to hug them so that’s the main thing.
But on the flip side. Fun interactions. Local Research Poké Children meet the Murder Children! I think the void kids should get more friends to play with that are unapologetically themselves because they didn’t get a childhood.
Also bonus if Markoth’s pokemon have a visit too - Batiso should meet Tiso and attach to his head to be the most annoying Gliscor as his given right to be-

oh my god. somewhat cursed spoilers under the cut
i havent exactly been subtle about how much shit im dumping on markoth, but what i havent said until now is that i Love the idea of markoth being very loving and gentle once the Big Situation is dealt with, especially after new mothlings are born. like. dadkoth is a top tier concept, fight me
im also big on dad-quirrel (dadrel?) content and
my brain mashed the two together
and given the time scale of dreamless this honestly would work out MUCH better than tisoquirrel or quirrelemm; quirrel is at the very minimum a century old, markoth is easily on the same magnitude of age. tiso is 28, yall. hes a god damn Child in quirrel’s eyes. lemm’s in his 60s but even still
like i have absolutely no plans with this and im not interested in canonizing any romance beyond the already established relationships (wyrmroot and ogrisma, though idk if theres any interest in qpr ogrisma... nyehehe), so if this Does wind up being a thing its just
fuck man idk. i dont deal with shipping, im just mildly horrified at the Possibilities of this
edit from future stardust: HAHA NO THIS IS NOT HAPPENING they’re 60 years apart and markoth is way too tired to date. so is quirrel honestly. they both still have dad energy though
